• Lizcano (1/5): Dismal and dreary - There really was nothing that I like about this hotel other than it is relative inexpensive by San Francisco's prices for lodging. They had a vending machine in the lobby where a can of soda was only a $1.25. First I did not like the fact that they did not have a record of my reservation. I had made the reservation an about two weeks before my stay. I even emailed the property and they replied back concerning my reservation. They had no room available for me according to the clerk. After the clerk made a few phone calls they put me in a room for the night but I had to move the next day. Unfortunately I had to leave for work around 5:30 am so I was unable to unpack my clothing or toiletries. The next evening when I got off work I went back to the hotel and was given a key for another room. there were many things about the room that were substandard. TV that kept going going to preview screen when I was watching something., a picture that was place above the bed that had a broken frame that looked like it might fall apart and fall on my head while I slept. One of the shower areas has exposed wiring and open lighting casing that is not meant to be in a room with moisture. And I am done using Booking.com. This is the second place that I used Booking.com and I have learned my lesson. Trying to get a customer service rep when something goes wrong is impossible. the worst customer service ever.

• Raisa (7/5): Great location and value if you realistic in what to expect - Location was very convenient for Union Square. Easy walking distance. Of course, you have to remember it’s the Tenderloin district with all that it comes with. The hotel was clean and staff were amazing. I had a room towards the back and it was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable. It met my expectations.

• Jeffrey (6/5): - I've stayed here twice and would stay again. An older hotel that needs upgrading, but very clean with a friendly staff. Although in the heart of the Tenderloin, this particular location (Geary and Leavenworth) is very safe and free from many of the problems normally associated with this area. There are numerous dining options nearby. The location is quite far from the BART station at either Powell of Civic center. Difficult walk with baggage.
• Antti (5/5): - Its okey place only for sleeping. At first it was cold in room, but later come warmer. Place was very old.

• Thorsten (7/5): - Grundsätzlich ist die Lage gut da man alles gut erreichen kann und vor der Tür direkt Busse fahren. Leider ist das Viertel eher von Obdachlosen und drogensüchtigen geprägt. Man fühlt sich hier leider nicht so sicher wie man es gerne hätte. Wir wurden nicht belästigt aber es war ein mulmiges Gefühl. Wir wollten einchecken und es war niemand vor Ort. Trotz mehrmaligen klingeln kam niemand. Wir haben mehrfach jemanden gehört der dann später auch per Zufall auf den Flur kam und uns eingecheckt hat.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - A little old-fashioned, but the bed and shower are really good. Sadly, located in a area with lots of homeless/drug addicts. There is a gate though. For the price it was very good.

The location has a lot of homeless people around, and we experienced a lot of noise from neighbouring buildings/rooms. One night the neighbour was playing music from 3am.

• Elizabeth (6/5): Affordable, basic place to stay - The staff is wonderful, greeted me by name, very accommodating. The bed was comfortable and my window overlooked a garden and the room was very quiet. Fishmando Sushi a block away is amazing. (Get the dragon roll) Have you heard the saying that your blessing is also your curse? The property does a good job keeping everything clean but I found the aroma of the cleaning supplies a little overwhelming. I opened the window in my room and that helped a lot.

Public transportation was available every day Room had very little attention. Towels were never changed every day. Trash containers remain the same way. No attention was given to keep the room clean.

• Timothy (6/5): - The staff was very nice and helpful. I did not care for the shared bathroom or showers. I wish the bedroom had its own bathroom and shower. The room was small but clean. The bed was very small and not comfortable unless you are teen or young child. The room was cold at night but too hot under all the covers. There is portable fan heater but I was unable able to turn it on or use it. The area around the hotel was not ideal it was a rough area. I asked one of the staff what is the least expensive way to get the airport and he recommended a cab which was around $80 the last time I traveled from the airport to a hotel in the same area. Thank god for google it recommended the bart train which was under $12 it saved me a bundle.

• Sevim (3/5): Was a mistake - Onla good thing was location The building, room and amenities were old. The room was not clean. There was a mice in the room, and I told this to hostel staff and worried. the respond was “ please let us know if you see it again, they shouldn’t harm you”. The reason that I stay here was location and single room opportunity but I don’t recommend it for this price. If you have this price range stay in a shared and better place!

• Alice (1/5): Avoid this hotel and this area altogether! I traveled around the world, nothing is THIS bad! - Shockingly bad, dirty and smelly. Such an awful experience. The previous reviews and pictures are deceptive. This situation of this hotel is so bad that it should not be allowed to host anyone. It has an iron entry wrought directly connect to the street, with groups of homeless people hanging right outside, unsafe and very dirty. The strong urine smell from the street comes directly into the hallway, unbearable. The carpet leading to the rooms (again very connected to the street) are so dirty and filthy, almost became black. The rooms are smelly too, but covered up by a cheap scent, made it unbearable to breathe. The duvet is very very dirty, the pillows are so smelly. Some review says this hotel probably hosted homeless people during Covid. And I believe so, that's why. Location and dirtiness. I paid in advance but escaped, booked another hotel in another area. Avoid this area at all cost.

The area around the hotel can turn from tolerable to hella sketchy. Great for solo travelers that don’t mind sharing a bathroom or a shower, bring your own toiletries.

• Mark (10/5): Awesome SF experience - I had a great time staying at the hotel. It is in a perfect location—central and close to everywhere. The bus stop is just in front of the hotel. Ver is a great man. He is hospitable and friendly. He ensured that I would have a fabulous SF experience during my stay and even drove me around some tourist places. It is value for money, and I totally recommend it!
• STEVEN (6/5): The real lowdown on this place - Your enjoyment and satisfaction at this place really depends on your familiarity with and tolerance of modern US urban environments. The hotel is a quirky old property that feels pretty safe once you're inside. The immediate area does have a large unhoused population but you are also in easily walkable distance to Union Square and the touristy bits. I'm a street savvy older male so I felt fine but you have to gauge your own comfort level. It is a great bargain to be in the middle of SF.

• Norah (5/5): Friendly staff - Helpful and friendly staff There is high steps at entrance, no ramp or lift. The room is not so clean and smiles not good. So small room, broken curtain. The charred path room has no sinks so you need to go to your room to wash your hand .

The Tenderloin area is the worst area of the city, but we still felt safe going back home late at night, especially with the separate gate in front and the manned front desk.

My luggage was delayed, and they asked back to me various times about help and the status. Can fully recommend a stay. The property itself is not necessarily "high standard," but it comes with a fair price. This is not a critique per se, just information that if you are looking for a modern and highly clean place, this might not be the best option.

The room was very clean and quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower rooms were clean and the water hot. As a single female Traveller I never felt at risk. Although I knew the property had shared bathrooms I found the restroom situation a bit strange during the night. It would have been nice to have had warm drink availability.

• Yangming (10/5): If I go to SF again, I’ll book in this place - The owner has been very friendly since the beginning. We had problem with the flights that’s affected our stay in SF and they always have been very willing to help. Me and my friend, we both felt very satisfied with the place. We’re heard about the location and stuff but honestly, it’s not bad at all. Just keep on the same street and nothing would happen. The hotel was very quiet and nice. Personally everything was very good. I have no bad words for the place or the people working.
• Petr (8/5): Great for a sleepover, but try to get back before dusk, side-streets are not as kind to tourists... - Hotel is lead by and excellent manager, communication was swift and always to the point, all special requirements (late check-in, bag keeping for extended time) were answered promptly and to my highest satisfaction. Overall it was a great value for the price for a short one-person sleepover where you actually do not need a private bathroom at all (and it was never an issue to find an empty restroom or shower in the hotel at pretty much any given time). And you get a bathrobe, so you really can walk to the shared shower in full comfort! The hotel equipment has seen better days. Walls seem to be wavy from decades worth of plaster from previous renovations, but nothing is falling off or crumbling, you just get some 20th century vibe, while looking at that. Tenderloin is a bit of a sketchy place, especially late in the evening, but you can see a lot of crazy things and people in plain daylight as well... However, I have definitely been to significantly worse places where I was more afraid for my valuables and maybe life, so I do not want to paint is so dark as some of the others do. The only possible downside for some may be that the hotel is located in one of the side-streets, good 13 min. walk from Market St. I mean you can still go around safely, as the people of late-night Tenderloin do not actually approach you. Yes, you can still get the "Hey brother, how you doing?" questions from them, and it may be a good idea to answer them politely, but not interact much more. – But one thing you can be sure, do not walk around in your Prada, D&G, LV, Rolexes, ... around, this is not a great place to show off, keep that to Embarcadero, and maybe not even to there...

The interior is dated but the room was quite pleasant. The room was very dark because the window faces another wall.
