Guest Reviews
- shinsuke (6/5): -
- Narantuya (7/5): Old hotel with a great onsen, near the port - Onsen was great. Good location, a few minutes' walk from the ferry port. The staff was very courteous. The place is quite old.
- MEGUMI (8/5): -
- shinji (9/5): -

- Setsuko (8/5): -
- Shelleycatherine (8/5): Super friendly staff and convenient location near restaurants compensate for a rather outdated look - The staff was wonderfully accommodating and friendly, helping out in many unexpected ways. The room decor and furnishings were bland and faded, though perfectly fine in terms of functionality and comfort. In general, the hotel really needs an interior design upgrade.
- Alwyn (9/5): -
- ishigaki (4/5): -
- David (8/5): traditional inn beside lake in downtown Ryotsu. - traditional style japanese rooms, quite spacious with separate lounge room and bedroom. Included their own onsen. Staff were very friendly and helpful and met us outside the front door. Our room overlooked the lake. Close to restaurants including a very good sushi place.
- Fusako.
- June (10/5): - Beautiful view of a lake and mountains from our hotel room made our stay very peaceful and relaxing. Hotel staff were very courteous, accommodating, helpful, and friendly. They made our stay very enjoyable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good home base for your visit to sado! - Very convienient location near port. They offer free pick up and drop off from ferry. Breakfast was good (Japanese style). They cater to big tour groups. We unfortunately got a room close to their banquet halls so our front door and entry smelled like grilled fish. The hotel like all hotels in small towns are a bit dated. Their onsen water was hot and the very soft. The rooftop onsen has a great view of the bay but no facilities. The rooms were sizable and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The view from the room is beautiful with a view of the bay. It’s also in an area with many eatery’s and very convienient to port. Great place for jump off or home base for the island. If you want to save some money do the north one day and south the next. I’ll stay here again. They do desperately need a coffee stand!!!!!!!!!! Or at least coffee in the room.
- Taeko (8/5): -
- James (7/5): Was probably excellent 50 years ago. - It looks like in its heyday, which was perhaps in the 60s, it was a very nice hotel. But it’s just a little bit tired now. Nonetheless, it had plenty of facilities. Pillows are a bit rubbish. Room had a nice view.
- Chan (9/5): Pleasant and comfortable. - Spacious and clean rooms Was difficult to communicate cause the staff knows very little English . However the staff tried their very best to help. There was also shuttle services to the ferry port
- Magdalene (8/5): - Property is old but clean. Faces the lake/sea, which is beautiful. During winter it is very quiet so makes the property which is also old, a little scary. Am sure it is different in spring and summer. There is a good little family run sushi and sashimi restaurant within 2 mins walk.
- Fatima (4/5): Very nice staff and the shuttle service is very accommodating . - Very clean and very nice view from our balcony. Classy Japanese place and the staff very helpful. That we can’t have a meal in the property cause we did not reserve during reservations.
- Christine (10/5): - The Staff at this hotel/ryokan were so exceptionally friendly and hospitable. Greeted me by name every time I entered the hotel. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. I would stay there again! Also breakfast was delicious!
- DEBORAH (10/5): - It was a ryokan and on the lake border
Beautiful , peaceful and quiet
Loved the area and cleanliness
Breakfast delicious too
Room very spacious and clean
The front desk staff was excellent and the manager helped us book our taxi tours and sights
They also recommended a taxi driver who spoke no English but luckily we spoke some Japanese
The driver was very accommodating and took us to places we asked for
Plus the manager help find the town of “Nagaishi and shrine “ which he mentioned to my son and driver
All in all will stay at yoshidaya again when we visit our granddaughter again.
I highly recommend this ryokan
- Tadeáš (7/5): Good - good location, onsen, japanese style room I could smell some smells from kitchen/restaurant in my room.
- Ryoko (9/5): I liked this hotel, good for the people want to spend a quiet time, it’s on the lake, and I loved Onsen in this facility - Staffs were all very nice, clean facility, our room had enough space and comfortable, on the water, Onsen was really nice, etc Night life around this area.. was kinda depressing area, not many restaurants/Izakaya were opened, although food store we found was around the corner. Took quite a time to go visit the Sado gold mine.
- Virginia (7/5): A traditional Japanese experience that you should read up on before you go. - This was an authentic Japanese cultural learning experience! The staff was courteous. This felt like it was seeped in mid-20th century history, but even older cultural patterns. The breakfast was an amazing presentation. Don’t miss Taiko Drumming with Kado and the Sado City museum. The old carpet and damaged wall paper made it feel sad, as if it had once been great but now was just old. The view from the rooftop spa was blocked with an ugly plastic fence, and the lighting prevented us from seeing stars. The unkempt garden in back and the rusted fire stairs contributed to the old, sad feeling. It had the potential to be a grand place, but instead it felt neglected. Someone on staff should speak fluent English or at least there should be some written materials in English to provide cultural context.
- Dowd (10/5): Exceptional - staff was excellent and the baths were really good. The location was also great, if you had a car.
- Brian (7/5): Traditional with a beautiful view. - A traditional Japanese hotel with an amazing view of the lake. Note for Americans (and maybe Europeans) the family sized Japanese-style rooms have an entry way (that contains the sink and doors to toilet room and shower/bath), a room with tatami mats, and a narrow sitting room with 2 chairs to enjoy the view. The room with tatami mats has a low table and floor seating AND is the “bed” room with futon cushions that go on the floor to create the beds. (It was comfortable but just an FYI as the pictures on here are confusing). The Japanese breakfast was very good. We really liked the location overall. Our whole floor smelled strangely and strongly of cooked cabbage (or something similar).
- Romain (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): - Walking distance to Ryotsu Port
- Dayna (9/5): Great room for a great price! - Room size was incredible! We had a view of the water. It was a bit worn in the public areas.
- Glenn (7/5): Good -
- Rachel (9/5): Good value for money - Although a bit dated interior and facilities, it is a great value for money stay. With onsen and rotenburo on the roof. Also, nearby enough places to eat at night😊
- Wai (8/5): The staffs are very nice and helpful -
- Kawada (8/5): Highlight was the beautiful lake view right in from room and rooftop bath. Highly recommend. -
- Andreas (9/5): A good relaxing area. Good food and kind people - The view from the room was absolutely beautiful especially during sunset. It’s not a far walk from a few really good restaurants and the beach. Also the onsen was clean and relaxing The one thing that bothered me was that the air conditioning was weak but that’s minor especially during night
- Man (9/5): Superb - Staffs are nice and very helpful.
Food is great👍
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynette (9/5): Great stay on Sado in a once grand hotel overlooking the lake. - This once grand hotel is now a little tired but still a great place to stay. We had a family room Japanese style overlooking the lake. The bath house inside was well equipped and large, but looked very pink like a 1970's hairdressers. The outside bath on the roof, only open during the hours when the inside bath was closed, was more basic but fun to be outdoors watching the birds on the thermals above us.
They still have local dancers to entertain guests each evening. It was an opportunity to see some cultural activities that were specific to Sado Island.
The breakfast was in a small dining room overlooking the lake. I think the bus tour guests ate in a larger dining room as there were only a few people in ours. The food was local and excellent, and each dish was explained to us by staff. It varied each day. The hotel simply needed a refresh. The outside showed just how the climate affects buildings here. Otherwise we knew what we were getting, so shabby chic was fine.
- Tan (7/5): Good - Nice cost vieiby the lake Room n hotel abit old
- Kok (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rébecca (8/5): Very good - Big and confortable room with all amenities and nice view on the lake
Nice onsen + rotemburo on the rooftop A bit expensive
- Mylène (8/5): Old hotel but great staff, convenient location, good facilities - Great staff, loved the dance show. The outdoor onsen on the roof is cool and the view on the lake from the rooms is very calming. Facilites are a bit dated, it’s obviously an old hotel which need a bit of repairs
- Mark (10/5): Great stop on Sado Island - Great one night trip to Sado Island. Hotel location was easy walk and quiet as it was off the main street. Service was wonderful and the staff helped with site visit recommendations, transportation and meal recommendations. we had the breakfast at the hotel that was wonderful. So many dishes, all delicious. Great stop and we will be back in the summer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): First time at Ryokan - Very interesting experience. They come in set up your breakfast and futons. Everyone should try it once.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
