Guest Reviews
- karen (8/5): - Lovely place to stay Nothing all was good
- Irene (1/5): Did not stay, no food available, they were only interested in preparing for the wedding the next day - We did not like the fact that we were not notified that NO food would be available to us for our stay, we were unable to stay here, so had to leave the accommodation. The staff were in contact with the manager and we were told to apply for a refund, we phoned the number given to us and also sent an email, and to date have not heard from or received a reply to our email.
- Tania (1/5): Aweful - I would like to complain about this hotel as didn’t communicate with me that the restaurant & bar were not open at all
Breakfast was sloppy & running in water
The manager couldn’t give a dam Don’t stay here rude disrespectful & no food
- Sarah-Louise (10/5): -
- Justin (8/5): - The temperature controls in the room were poor on a very hot evening
- Steve (5/5): -
- olivier (1/5): - Hotel abandoned .
Dirty room .nobody on site , key just left on door.
Spider Web in all corner
No reception .restaurant and bar closed.
I've been awake in the morning with someone entering the room.
- Rene (1/5): Didn’t stay in the end due to to many negatives. Moved to another hotel. - Not a lot actually….very messy, unkept and uninviting Dirty. Bar closed.no food. To be fair after seeing dirt and dust everywhere I’m not sure if I would of had food or drink even if it was available as per their posting
- philip (8/5): Great location comfy room convenient parking - Breakfast served too late
Said 8am on the info sheet
Wasn’t till 8.30 normally expect it from 7am
Also very limited choice basically vegetarian or fry up
- robert (5/5): -
- lucy (3/5): I stayed here one night for work. Never saw a member of staff, no food and a very old mattress! - The room and bathroom were nice and clean, and spacious No staff appeared to be on site / available at any stage during my stay. No food available at dinner or breakfast
- Trevor (9/5): Lovely staff at a lovely place. - Really pretty room with everything I needed and a freshly cooked breakfast too. If I were to be super picky I would suggest a mirror above the bathroom sink and some kind of 99p suction tray in the shower but these really are just constructive suggestions.

- Alexandra (9/5): Great hotel, wonderful vibe. - I love this hotel. It’s got a great vibe. The staff are wonderful. They’re there when you need them, but not intrusive. Beautifully designed rooms. Breakfast is flexible and delicious.
Thoroughly recommended. Nothing
- catherine (7/5): -
- Jenni (7/5): Quirky little place with beautiful fire in the bar. - The hotel was beautiful. There was an open fire where we sat and had some drinks. The decor is beautiful everywhere and the layout of the rooms is quirky. The bed was really uncomfortable. We put a spare quilt on the mattress to try and help but it didn’t.
- Paul (9/5): Lovely and very welcoming staff - Lovely comfortable bar and reception but walls to bedrooms paper thin and I could hear conversations in room next door . Only isssue in lovely stay
- tricia (5/5): -
- Andrei (10/5): -
- Egle (8/5): -
- Bruce (10/5): Excellent welcoming place to stay. - Great location, parking and facilities. Made us very welcome and were very dog friendly supplying dog beds, bowls etc. Food was excellent too! Nothing! It was all very good.
- Darren (7/5): Very comfortable - A lovely room A few issues in the bathroom
- Pawel (9/5): -
- Pawel (8/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): We arrived to a very friendly host and all looked ok, room looked good until we used the bathroom. - We didnt eat as we spent time with relatives. The bathroom wasnt very clean especially the shower tray. Didnt look like it had been cleaned as was hairs lying over the shower tray and just generally not great. We didnt use the shower during our stay. The room next door to us was quite noisy aswell. Shame really as looks really good on first impressions. Not saying we wouldnt use again.
- Trevor (8/5): Excellent staff. Friendly welcome. - Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at dinner was excellent, but the restaurant is not open Sunday - Tuesday.
Cooked breakfast was good, but no pastries or fruit provided. No fruit or pastries with breakfast.
Restaurant closed for dinner Sunday - Tuesday.
- Keith (8/5): - Good food and friendly staff Poor heating in room
- Nicola (10/5): Very comfortable, cosy, warm, friendly. - So cosy and warm. Grant the bar staff was so friendly and helpful.

- Stephen (7/5): - The open fires where beautiful Just some little touches could of been better in the rooms
- Sal Rogers (9/5): -
- Anna (8/5): Prima - Locatie
- Ellise (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Gorgeous place, lovely staff and beautiful food - The property was lovely and clean, bed was very comfortable if quite squeaky. Bathroom was lovely. Food was gorgeous, best veggie breakfast I’ve ever had and my husband said it’s the best steak he’s had. It was a little cold but once we closed the curtains the room warmed up and the bed was quite squeaky. Other than that everything was great and would definitely stay again.
- ROSEMARY (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyable. - Breakfast was very good. They had a known problem with the boiler so no hot water for a shower.
- Wilma (9/5): Geweldige locatie! - Geweldige ligging, mooie kamer, gezellige eetkamer en heerlijk rustig.
- Vivian (6/5): Won’t go there again! - Clean. Expensive, No atmosphere! Especially for new year.
- jamie (10/5): -
- Alfie (8/5): Perfect for a quick overnight stay, very modern with a countryside feel. - Very accommodating, close to home and modern. Staff were very helpful, it was fairly priced and I loved the countywide feel to the place. The mattress was 2 singles together so I get falling in between and was not the comfiest. Our room was REALLY hot in the night.
Minimal breakfast options and small portions but it was free with the room so I can’t complain too much.
- Geoff (8/5): Lovely place, enjoyed my visit despite 1 or 2 'slight problems - Friendly greeting on arrival and throughout visit. Loved the sausage in the traditional breakfast! Room (and consequently the bed) was very cold on arrival as heating hadn't been put on. Also, it took a very long time to get any hot water…
- Helen (10/5): - The staff are exceptionally approachable and helpful. They provided an evening meal to meet our needs. The main meals were very good. Very welcoming atmosphere with log fires burning. Very welcoming for dogs with ample garden to meet essential needs! The continental breakfast was very basic.
- Jamie (4/5): No communication with nobody - Clean and tidy Nobody there before deadline checkin time, no room number allocated had to find my room with key in the door, nobody answering phone. No courtesy call to tell me my room number
- Giles (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): A brief overnight stay prior to a channel crossing… lovely care and consideration for special dietary requirements and t - A lovely property… all ground floor… great access for both humans and dogs A bit cold on arrival… but soon heated up on request
- Jordan (10/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Gerald (8/5): -
- Keith (8/5): -
- Ivan (10/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Fab stay - Everything it was comfortable and clean in a stunning location The only thing to complain about was my mum toasted some bread and one slice was mouldy
- Graham (3/5): Use as a wedding venue means not recommended as a holiday hotel or pub. - The staff we met and dealt with were very good, in particular the bar manager John and the lady who arranged breakfast (sorry didn't catch your name). This is difficult to write, because the individual staff members were very helpful and tried to help us.
Unfortunately the current arrangement as a wedding venue badly compromises the quality of the property as a holiday hotel and the facilities of the pub. Being specific:
- the rooms are clearly oriented around transient custom (people staying for one night at a wedding). As such the decor was tired and a bit dirty (a dirty cleaning cloth was left in one room, and the other had holes and damage to the wall beside the beds). The beds themselves had large stains on them and the mattress was lumpy and old. There was little storage space for clothes. The TVs are fed by Wifi, but in one room it kept breaking up due to a lack of signal.
- The noise and disruption because of the weddings ruined our sleep. After the disco finished, arguments continued into the night, despite being set in the middle of the countryside.
- The pub, whilst being well stocked with a selection of local beers, had no bar snacks (well some nuts and olives, but nothing else), and no bar food menu as the chef is too busy catering for large weddings. As the restaurant was pre-book only and "full service" we ended up getting takeaway or eating elsewhere. The pub garden was unavailable during weddings (which is understandable but disappointing).
- The web site states breakfast was from 7.30, but a printed sheet inside the hotel stated 8.00. As we had early starts, this was an issue, fortunately resolved by the member of staff above, who opened at 7.30 for us. Unfortunately the breakfast was up to scratch - the scrambled egg had pan scrapings in it, the bacon was cooked at too low a heat so the fat wasn't rendered and the tomatoes weren't cooked.
There were other issues but overall as a paying guest (rather than attending a wedding) I can't recommend this hotel.
- Oan (8/5): Was brilliant and Sandra was amazing really genuine and helpful - Breakfast was lovely 10/10 just in my opinion could do with a hash brown (I am a fat boy😂)
- Rosemary (10/5): Fantastic food, and great service - Very welcoming hotel, with a wonderful selection of beers and amazing chef.
I arrived without making a dinner reservation, but they managed to fit me in. Nothing to fault, just be aware that the paths connecting the rooms and leading to the main hotel are gravel, and may be difficult to navigate if using a wheelchair.
- Laura (10/5): Little gem!
Lovely hotel - A little gem, lovely accommodation, room in the courtyard. Spacious, clean & pretty decor. Really comfortable bed. Freshly cooked breakfast, quality excellent.
- Carolyn (8/5): -
- Sharron (10/5): - So friendly and helpful, we arrived late but chef prepared us a gorgeous meal. Amazing food, lovely setting and really great welcome Nothing
- Colin (10/5): - All the staff were polite, courteous, helpful and very accomodating. The even had our rooms prepared in ahead of schedule and allowed us to check in earlier given our special circumstances . This was extremely helpful. I would definitely stay there again N/A. Great staff great venue perhaps an earlier check in time so that I get to make my stay even longer 😊
- Gerard (9/5): - Very comfortable. Fantastic welcome and attention throughout even though the staff were busy with a wedding function No issues
- Alina (8/5): Nice relaxing night away - Lovely and clean and beautiful venue Far too understaffed.only 1 person doing everything in the evening and the same again in the morning with a lot of guests there.not fair on the staff who were lovely.
- Toby (9/5): Nice place and a beautiful location, good value stay. - The welcome and the food was excellent. Really nice and caring people. Room was very comfortable. Wish we had stayed for dinner rather than go out. I think having people park outside their rooms might disturb other guests. Clearly the last minute bookings caught them off guard as so few staff sat breakfast. However it was dealt with, with kindness and a smile which meant it did not affect our stay.
- Theresa (9/5): Absolutely worth a visit. A real treat. - Stunning location. Staff were outstanding. The chef and his delicious food were awesome. We had the chef’s special.. and it was special. Nothing was too much trouble. The bathroom in the room we stayed in needs a re think. The shower base doesn’t hold the water . The shower head overflows, the tap in the sink is wobbly and the toilet is facing the wrong way, so that my tall husband couldn’t fit his knees in to sit down .
- Tim (8/5): On the whole a good experience - The breakfast was very good.the room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was spraying water (this was reported to reception and they passed this onto the maintenance staff).
- Elaine (10/5): Excellent would definitely come back! - Location, cleanliness, staff, breakfast, room
- Annette (9/5): Relaxing - Quite and comfortable
- margaret (8/5): Good location for touring kent - Very nice meal
Bar staff need a bit more training
Dining room was very cold until I asked for heating to go on.
Very quiet location
Lovely friendly staff
- Ben (10/5): Beautiful place to stay, great staff, great food and well worth the money. - We had a night away from the kids and The Blazing Donkey was perfect for it, accomodation was perfect, Breakfast was delicious and the staff were polite, funny and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend it to anyone for a cheeky night off from the kids or for a venue for family gatherings etc really, I can't speak highly enough of this place,
Sandra is a wonderful hostess she's on the ball and very welcoming and really takes the time to give you alot of attention without being over the top. Thank you guys for a great stay we will definitely be back! There was nothing we didn't like at all
- Margaret (8/5): Country retreat - Very good breakfast. Nothing
- Tim (8/5): -
- Molly-May (4/5): -
- wendy (7/5): -
- Chris (6/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): - Location Staff not very efficient
Final bill was overcharged atwice
- Tomo (8/5): Very good hotel - Very caring and helpful staff, they were all ears all time I have spend there, thank you.
Beautiful and comfortable restaurant with different sitting places.
Breakfast was great and it was very peaceful to be surrounded by farms. If I want to be fussy, the room I had was a bit small and could do with a little refresher but it was very clean and well maintained.
- Gavin (9/5): We had a lovely stay. The food was excellent and so was the service. - The main bar is lovely, with a warm fire and lovely ambience Shower in room was difficult to use
- mark (8/5): -
- Porritt (10/5): - Everything was lovely..the room was comfortable...we dined in the restaurant for dinner and the food was lovely.
- Janet (8/5): -
- Guest (1/5): -
- Nuala (10/5): - I stayed in a Garden view room, in an outside lodge block with own door access and outside seating, safe and secure parking, huge comfortable bed and roomy modern shower. Helpful and friendly staff who engaged in conversation and gave me some great local tips and handy advice for accessing nearby Canterbury. A fabulous country hotel.
- Alistair (6/5): Great site let down in the detail - The setting is beautiful and the evening staff were very helpful and friendly. Ample parking very quiet. Morning service was not good. Untrained junior staff appeared to be left to it by whomever was meant to be in charge. Simple small things like no spoons for the cereals,no decent coffee, not knowing how to raise an invoice, they appeared totally at sea. Such a shame given how nice the venue is.
- Hugo (8/5): -
- Lance (8/5): - Breakfast was excellent
- Jason (7/5): - Nice modern room Bacon from breakfast looked like been cooking for 4 days, short staffed ,but they did there best, was there for a wedding which went well
- Stephen (6/5): - Unremarkable place so not much to say really Expensive for what it was, wanted to charge £30 for checking in a hour early. Made a mistake booking and then charged an extra £80 for the 2nd guest. Seems to be run by an absentee owner leaving the young team to it ( who were great but had no
Authority ) - No menu at breakfast just offered a full English or veg option , then told we don’t serve baked beans. Stay was £249 for 16 hours in an unremarkable room over priced
- Durham (8/5): Nice and comfortable place tucked away in deep Kent countryside. - Nice little place, really tucked away just in from the coast. Very quiet and pretty location. Comfortable room in courtyard. Nice breakfast.
- Corina (9/5): - Mogelijkheid tot laat inchecken .
- David (6/5): -
- Nicola (7/5): -
- COLIN (8/5): -
- Layla (9/5): Amazing. - Staff were SO friendly and very patient, professional and gentle as it turned out to be a difficult time for us.
I must commend Clint very highly indeed. It's people like him and his authentic and innate understanding of what 'hospitality' means who make good hotels excellent hotels. Thank you very much. I will most definitely recommend your hotel and the gorgeoussssss donkeys across the road. Red carpet in room 22 could do with replacing or professionally cleaned. Room 7's carpet was spotless.
- Andrew (8/5): Nice location, great staff - staff set price of food.
- Nicola (9/5): - warm and cosy car park was dark on arrival
- Georgia (4/5): wouldn’t stay again - remote TV didn’t work in room, no controller given even if it did work.
we paid for a double room but had to 2 single beds that were pushed together and they kept on moving
- Rahul (5/5): Seemingly nice but not worth the price. - Nice location and approach. Rooms are dated, dusty and uncomfortable. Staff came across super flustered at the littlest things and ranging from passive aggressive to rude. None of them should be in hospitality.
- Stavroulla (10/5): I would highly recommend a stay with The Blazing Donkey! We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and the accommodation was - We loved everything about this accommodation. the staff were friendly, the room was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. n/a
- HERBERT (2/5): Not at all happy but you were kind enough to offer compensation by way of a free stay voucher - double bed. Empty atmosphere.
- Fleur (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- donna (9/5): lovely stay lovely dinner nice and quiet shame breakfast wasn’t quite up to it but wasn’t awful - expresso martinis room was lovely although shower soaks the floor bit dangerous I think dinner was lovely property was fine but breakfast let it down but being short staffed in the kitchen I guess that’s why
