Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent budget hostel - I stayed in Anchorage as my launch point to Denali and Seward/Kenai Fjords. It was good to be able to extend my stay and book the female dorm last minute in the days in between my trips. The manager, John, splits his time between the midtown location and downtown, and I found he was the most helpful in booking my transportation and the Kenai Fjords cruise. Overall staff were friendly and keep the place tidy despite how many ppl were staying there. It is a budget hostel and nothing fancy here. They provide breakfast which is a plus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - down town and inexpensive .. there is a $2 dollar bus to the AIRPORT right outside the property - easy to find.
- K (8/5): - Very friendly staff. Good place to meet and chat with other travellers. Very conveniently located, about 1 block from the downtown bus transit center. Next door to the Marriott, which is an easily seen landmark. Breakfast items provided, and the kitchen has an area where you can leave excess food you may have purchased or take what others have left behind.
Wifi signal wasn't strong in my room (just off the kitchen/dining area) but worked fine in the common areas.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average - Average - clean enough but in need of general facility maintenance & updating. Ok for what it is.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Did not like having to share bathroom with so many others.
- William (10/5): - Friendly, attentive, and helpful staff. Clean and well maintained rooms, and facilities. Definitely worth staying here.
- JoAnne (10/5): - Relaxed atmosphere. Central location. Freshly painted room. Friendly helpful staff. Would recommend highly.
- Akwasi (8/5): Good location. - Nice hostel in good location in downtown anchorage.
- Stephanie (2/5): Dump - Prison cell in a great location
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good position but badly maintained. The bed was like sleeping on a bed of nails.
- Sau Yi (10/5): Great location, good value. - The 8 bed dorm we stayed in was spacious, clean, very close to the bathroom. Good security with swipe card for dorm level entry, kitchen level entry and to room. Kitchen is spacious, and clean. Complimentary coffee was nice. Convenient downtown location just 10 min walk to alaska railroad depot. Very good value.
- Elin (10/5): - Really friendly and helpful staff!
Got a kitchen with all the essentials, very clean and close to downtown and just around the corner from the bus station. Definitely recommend this place!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Best bang for your buck in Anchorage - This was a surprisingly decent budget hotel that was clean, quiet, and friendly. Shared bathrooms were in great conditions, laundry facilities were fantastic to have in the frequently rainy weather, and the rooms were quiet. We had a private room right next to the men's bathroom and it was never too noisy. Easy central location was nice and walkable.
- James (8/5): Fit our needs - This is a hostel more than a hotel. Convenient and inexpensive by Alaska standard. Shared bathroom and a room just for sleeping. Fit our needs and that's what counts.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Decent lodging for a hostel ( my first time). Rooms were small but clean. Quiet building. Didn't care for the shared bathroom but I'm not a hostel type of traveler as I've learned lol. There are no blackout curtains which is also a problem.
- William (4/5): One night stay - Very Helpful and loved their restaurant recommendations. Great beds.
- BRUCE (4/5): Highly questionable accomdation - The place is relatively clean but the rooms are a real joke; the bed was on rollers, no trash can, tv, clock or mirror. Would NEVER stay there even if it was free. No insulation in the walls so not quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good nights sleep - Place is very clean, bed was comfy, a little squeaky. The Walls are a bit thin but slept well. Front staff very helpful. Worth the money if you have more then 2 staying. Would stay a again for a quick stop overnight.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was half- underground with size of barely fit into a full size bed, and the wall too thin to block any sound from rooms next/near you.
- ssharm (6/5): Cheapest place to stay - It's been years since I used a dormitory style accommodation and I remember why I hate it. Uncomfortable beds, 1 thin pillow, inconsiderate room mates and snorers. But that's what dorm style hostel is all about and you get what you pay for. The money I saved by staying here afforded me a train ticket to Denali so it was worth it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Over priced. Sorry no more comments. If you make me add a bit more I won't submit anything.
- Eric (8/5): First time in a hostel - The staff were friendly and very helpful. the facilities were clean. It looks used and a bit worn down, but it wasn't bad. I liked it so much, I extended my stay by 2 nights. I really enjoyed meeting people from many different countries just in my short stay.
- Marc (8/5): Always a friendly face - The staff were great. Went out of their way to answer my questions. Good to see. Luke put up with a lot of my question. Thanks Mate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Number 1Anchorage Hostel ! - Great town centre location , great friendly hostel for town stay or wilderness launch pad.
- Tyler (4/5): Bad check-in, OK stay - The person assisting us with check-in was extremely rude and did not make us feel welcome at all. After check-in, our experience improved greatly. The hotel and hostel areas were clean for the most part, and our room was also fairly clean. The twin beds we slept in were made very nicely but were rather uncomfortable. The shared bathrooms were also kept very clean. (I can't speak to the womens, but the mens were very nice) Overall, I would probably not choose to stay here again, but if it was the only option, it would certainly be better than nothing.
- Scott (10/5): Red sky ocean - Perfectly located hostel, near city & airport bus depot (only $2.00, one way, airport to downtown transit center). Arrived late night, reserved room immediately available with tour of property. Well maintained, clean sheets and fresh smelling rooms-spotless bathrooms with hot water. Public space has computers, TV & relaxing couches/tables. Absolutely best price and value for a shared accommodation in Anchorage. Shuttle service best to plan & request in advance-service provided by other long term guests free lancing (not available after 10PM). Taxi from airport is very quick, moderate cost $17+, less than guide books. Absolutely great breakfast in ground level of Captain Cook hotel, salmon omelet with all the fixings, plus fresh real coffee, great service by wait staff. Easy walk to Captain Cook locale from hostel. Downtown Anchorage is painfully quiet on weekends-plan accordingly. Plenty of homeless folks wandering around but not aggressive, keep to themselves. Tons of bike rentals available for good weather day rides, Saturday market was setting up but late & mostly new stuff. Car rentals are at a premium in summer but worth a short reservation for exploring the country side & majestic mountains/scenery.
Have a great time-fellow travelers.
- Kathy (6/5): Hostel stay - Downtown and close to everything!
- Robert (8/5): Good - Brief but relaxing
- L. R. (8/5): - It is great for overnight or more. The manager has been very helpful.
Computer is available for guests, table and chair for eating, refrigerator that you can put in your bag of food/drink,
is not far from stores, and is in good location. It is a simple place so this is why the cost is low.
- John (8/5): My place in Anchorage. - I am an older guy (56) traveling with my wife and not typical hostel people. We tried it because we were on a backpack vacation, and the Bent Prop was a nice experience. Staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Luke at the front desk. Good value right downtown, very satisfied.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great place for the value. Clean amenities were sufficient
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - This was a great location within easy walking distance to downtown anchorage shops and restaurants, the convention center, and the coastal trails.
The property was akin to most hostels. The staff was friendly and responsive. The wi-fi was inconsistent but so much to do outside in the summer you barely notice. Quiet hours were not really observed but with light all night it is hard to remember it is the middle of the night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Exactly as advertised - A but of a funky smell in the room, but clean place overall, comfortable bed, clean bathroom & shower, nice linens on the bed. Felt very safe w/ door lock system. Great place for the price, to get a few Z's
- Retired (8/5): This is a convenient downtown hostel - This is a convenient downtown hostel experience with some upgraded rooms. I used it as a base for a 2 week trip to the Anchorage area. Most rooms are college dorm bunk beds with restrooms down the hall. Plenty of common room space, kitchen facilities and cold food storage. Lockers were present in the dorm rooms so bring your own lock and earplugs. Rooms are cool at night and comfortable with windows ajar. No fans in rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A hotel with good location and nice staff - I booked a private room. The room is clean, and the staff is nice. But the only thing is the room do not have a chair. And the table is too small. The location is great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay for a shorter stay - Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice, clean room - had an odd chemical smell though. Wifi in common area was good, not quite as good in my room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel was pleasant and convenient to downtown - I wanted to upgrade. Hotel staff were very accommodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and friendly - Easy to get to, Too short of a stay to say much more
- Steven (8/5): Nice place - Very convenient; bus (ACT) dropped us off right in front. Easy walking around the down town area. Train station close by.
- Peter (8/5): Off the boat in Anchorage - Great alternative to the local hotels which are EXPENSIVE. Great staff, really helpful, and full of local knowledge. Would do it all again with these guys.
- jake (8/5): Cozy hostel in DT anchorage. - Have heard bad things about hostels, especially this one, but risked it anyways. Was a great experience, bunked with seven Serbian guys (I'm American). Owner and staff were very friendly, the owner actually picked me up from the airport. Hung out in the living room/tv room and got to know some of the staff, then slept in a very comfortable bottom bunk, and left anchorage on the train in the morning.
- john (8/5): Nice folks - Did not land with my luggage as the air line did not put it on my cnx flight. That being said was leaving the next day to get on a cruise ship with out it. The folks helped me out be loaning me a coat and shirt as i left with only the close on my back. Good people. I passed the items on to the lost and found at the train station.
- Paul (10/5): enjoyed my stay - Enjoyed staying in a dormitory-style room and meeting people from all over the world. Downtown, so easy to get places. Friendly and efficient staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice visit - Hostel was clean and close to everything, l would stay there again,
- Verified traveler (4/5): Pay more money to get something better - This hostel is very cheap but we don't familiar with a share bathroom. The room is musty and its keycard sometimes cannot activate the door. It does not have an elevator so it's not comfortable if you have lots of stuff. You can drop your car on the road near the hostel during late evening until early morning for free.
- maureen (10/5): This is the best deal in Anchorage. - I had a great stay at this Hostel. The staff is what makes it great! John, Dave and Riley made my stay as easy and welcoming as they could. I felt like I was part of a great big family there. Clean, safe and very reasonable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bent Prop Inn & Hostel Downtown has really center location. You do not need any kind of transportation – everything is in the walking distance in downtown.
Hostel has nice and good equipped kitchen, and entertainment/living area where you can chat with others travelers or watch TV.
I had private room with shared bathroom. Room is not big but has everything you need and was very clean. Bathroom was very clean as well.
For the money, cleanness and central location - I would definitely recommend staying in this hostel. Especially if you are a budget traveler.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and clean hostel - My nephew and I stayed here one night after a late arrival at the airport. The staff was super friendly and even offered to help me carry my luggage up 3 flights of stairs to the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Okay for a short stay
- The room we had was a bit basic but it was clean and in pretty good condition.
The staff were very polite and helpful and the shared area is very welcoming; big, well equipped kitchen, a couple of decent computers and a piano!
Quite pricey for a hostel but this is normal for Alaska in my experience.
- Verified traveler (4/5): only if necessary - They say they have a shuttle but then I was told it was unavailable. Desk clerk was not too helpful, did not do what he said and there was a question of change for deposit which I think he did not give me and it was not resolved nicely.
