• Trail30573267230 (10/5): Best Hotel Stay in Kolkata - I am writing my review, not because any of them asked, but i genuinely want to share my experience with them. Sales Team - I was already in Kolkata and had to look for hotel for a long stay, as i had to check out from previous hotel. I google searched hotels and Came across The Astor, which is in my preferred location.. I checked their website and few reviews already. After dialling the contact number provided on the website. I came across Tanveer, he is very efficient, just one call and he made sure my booking was confirmed in less than an hour, he provided a very good rate and discounts, which i really appreciate, as my stay here was for long, Checked in on 11th March and checking out on 30th March. He is very humble and always answered my call and just saying, yes to all my requirements. Appreciate the same. we made sure to catch up also in between for few minutes. Would suggest anyone and everyone to just reach out to him for any of your bookings needs across India chains. Atmosphere - I think the entire hotels make you feel like you are staying in a place build from the British period, not sure how true it is. But I felt like, it can be counted as an heritage hotel, showcasing the history of Kolkata, their walls stay the stories. All corners in his hotel are photogenic/Instagram worthy. Rooms - Very very clean and very upto the mark, extremely clean, feel the freshness of the room, once you come back from a long and busy day of work. Party Scenes - Phoenix - This hotel is equipped with a very nice and happening club, which comes to life from 11 pm and it goes on. There are few waiters, who are very jolly and they do dance themselves as well, full vibing. The Bartenders - they can make customized drink for you as per you need. they have got you covered. Deck88 - if you want to go on a date or work peacefully under the sky, sitting between the varieties of plants collections they have, its just so pleasing to their eyes. you just be there, they will take care of you, anything you need, food drink, anything. In the evening, its very LIT. You will find Subhankar there to cater to any of your preference. Nice chap. Restaurant - The breakfast menu is nice, the food quality is good, the staff working there, always smile and watch out for you. they have good spread, however, just an advice to have a few more quite bites breakfast options, its no complain but a suggestion. Now i would like to mention a few staff members, who made me feel home, away from home. Front Desk - Shiv, Soumya, Tina, Payal, they are professional as well as humble, you can just ask them and they will make sure it is done. Soumya, is the one who will exchange his positive energy with a smile. Security Team - There is Balvinder Paji - he is a gem of a person, since I am travelling alone, he is like your brother is here, for anything you need. He is a sardar ji and he make sure to pass on, he given and caring nature, down to earth. He always has a listen you, anything you have to say. Thank you Pa ji. Lovely meeting you. In Room Dining - Khurshid Bhai & Nandlal, very very humble person, made sure i ate well, they served well, they are good at their job and always smiling. Saptam - He explained me about all the traditional Bengali dishes, the cultural foods, it was nice to learn about the tradition and cultural food. Kapil - Taking care for my very late night in-room food orders. and requests. House keeping - Many of us underestimate them, but it is because of them you mood is light and relaxed, when you enter your room. They make sure that feel home away from home and make sure to have a clean and fresh room. The house keeping team that were taking care of my room, they made sure to leave sweet message on a post it, some motivating, some uplifting, and that to hand written. It is a very small thing, but it definitely, makes you smile and its very thoughtful of them. I really really appreciate all their efforts, they are best at what they are doing. I use to have a good night sleep, on the clean sheets and extra pillows. If i needed anything extra, they made sure i have it. once they know what you need and how much, they make sure from the next day you wont have to call and ask them for it, they keep it ready when you return to your room. Soumitra, Gopal ji, Sheikh Lalbabu - Heartfelt thank you to all of you. There are a few more, but i never caught their name. I am sorry if i missed out any one, but i mean all of this for all of you. Location - I would highly suggest people to book you stay her, I am not very aware of the Kolkata streets, but for sure this is located in the centre and well connected to all places. They also, gave be a box of sweets as a thank you gesture, it was a very nice gesture. :) I will make sure, if i Visit Goa, i will stay at their property in Goa as well. Centrally located and within walking distance to lots of food, shopping, and tourist sites. Not as noisy as some of the previous reviews would suggest, though we were not there on a weekend. Literally could not ask for anything more and will ABSOLUTELY be staying here in the future.

Located centrally near Park Street with an old world charm that is hard to come by in other parts of India. I was worried about noise from the nightclub on the ground floor, but it seems they have nothing going on most days of the week - perhaps weekends are noisier. • 542niveditam (2/5): Terrible experience. Do not recommend at all. - Extremely noisy rooms with no night's rest at all. We went with our family from Canada and UK and booked the best rooms and suites for several nights to visit Kolkata city. The noise comes from the night club in the ground floor, the noise comes from the bar deck, the nose even comes through the walls behind which are the pantry and washing areas in the rooms. We booked the hotel as it is a heritage property and located on Park Street from where most of the city attractions are close by but it was an absolute disaster. To top it all, the service was slow and completely inefficient with even getting a black tea was a saga every morning at breakfast.

• Roushni (10/5): Beautiful heritage property - Lovely hotel. Nice spacious rooms. Great location. Room service was a little slow at times (had to call 2-3 times just to get new water bottles in the room). Breakfast was delicious with a huge spread. The pub on the property gets pretty happening at night (free entry for hotel guests) and we could feel the vibrations from the loud music in our room. We didn’t mind it but it might get annoying for someone wanting a restful night.

It felt like I was being hosted by a family at their home, the handwritten note in my room from the GM along with cookies and fruit, and the other little thoughtful touches really added to my experience here. The room came fully stocked with toiletries, was clean and spacious . The fact that I was staying in a beautifully restored Grade I Heritage building was one of the highlights for me.

Before booking my stay—an extended visit of nearly three weeks—I had a very clear discussion with Sreetama Ray, a member of the hotel’s sales team. She personally assured me that I would receive a discounted rate for committing to such a long stay. That promise was the primary reason I chose The Astor over several other options. Throughout my stay, I trusted that the agreed-upon discount would be honored. I even felt grateful at first, thinking the staff was trying to accommodate me. But when it came time for checkout, I was shocked to discover that I had been billed the full standard rate, with no discount applied at all. What hurt the most wasn’t just the higher bill—it was the feeling of being misled. When I raised the issue, I expected at least an honest explanation, an attempt to help, or some acknowledgment of the commitment made to me. Instead, I felt dismissed. The situation was handled in a way that made me feel like my concerns didn’t matter, and the original promise simply vanished without accountability. For a stay of this length—and for a hotel that positions itself as reputable and guest-focused—I expected transparency, integrity, and consistency. Instead, I walked away with a sense of frustration and disappointment that overshadowed everything else about my visit. I truly hope the management takes this seriously and reflects on how verbal commitments are communicated and honored. Guests deserve clarity and honesty, especially when financial promises influence major decisions. Based on this experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend The Astor Hotel for long stays, and would advise future guests to get every detail in writing to avoid feeling the way I do now. BEAWARE OF FRAUDSTERS!!!

Have been here 3 nights and not slept a single night due to horrendous noise from adjoining night club. This goes on EVERY NIGHT until 4am. Disgusting! Asked to be moved to another room further away but we just got moved up a floor still above the club so made no difference. This has ruined my holiday. I do not recommend you stay here if you want to sleep. This is NOT a one off. This is EVERY NIGHT UNTIL 4am. Terrible hotel.

I would like to especially mention Tina Payel who was at the reception desk who went beyond her duty to help me to have a pleasant stay. What really appealed is was quietness - it is like an oasis in the middle of this bustling city. My room was beautifully furnished with spacious bathrooms and included all the amenities. My stay was over Diwali and the hotel manager wrote a personal note to all the guests to invite us to the Diwali celebrations. Was a fun time with the staff. I really liked the fact that it is small cosy boutique hotel with a great restaurant attached which serves a nice breakfast. Bravo to all the staff for making this place so special!

Hotel is Located in well developed area. Which near to tourist place. Heritage look of hotel is well maintained. Victoria, brila planetarium, famous chruch, kalighat and many temple it is nearby. In walking distance you find metro station which will best option for travel to save time. Hotel is good and heritage atmosphere. I feel like iam staying in old maharaja palace. Rooms are well maintained and very comfortable to stay. Housekeeping staffs are super friendly. Cleanliness is top level. Different states mixed indian Morning complimentary breakfast. Hotel provides complimentary lounge and bar access. Hotel is value for money. Noise level is also less.

• Journey19815527056 (2/5): Thoroughly avoidable-below bare minimum standards! - I booked this hotel direct for staying between Sep 29-Oct 1. Firstly, the website is excellent - if only, the hotel experience was as modern and customer friendly. But that’s the idea I guess, lock in the customer and any real service/facilities is illusory. The fact that it’s a heritage hotel is evident from its slightly dilapidated entrance. However, this quaint appearance is an excuse for not getting the basic amenities of a hotel right. The lobby is dark and dingy with seating for 5-6 people at most. No complaints on walking up two floors for me but had I now known and travelled with senior citizens, my stay would have been a disaster. The stairwell and passage is stacked with vintage pics and baroque style carpets that beguile you into believing the rooms will be of some standard. The rooms are poorly lit, musty, strictly average and not meant for the discerning traveler. There’s barely any amenities in the bathrooms, towels and bathing amenities are scarce - not present unless you pick one from the housekeeping trolley carelessly stowed in the passage. The mattress, towels and linen quality is suspect, old and evidently worn-out. Please do not expect reasonable housekeeping service- requests for water bottles will be attended, at leisure. The lunch tray is served with terribly average food - and no one bothers to clear the tray - even AFTER entering the room. The breakfast spread is absolutely awful. It is extraordinary basic and pedestrian with remnants of food strewn and left in the dishes for those who arrive for breakfast at 10AM, like I did - even though breakfast was supposed to be on until 10:30. Basically, the staff is absolutely untrained and indifferent to any real standards of hospitality and may well be serving customers based on the standards of pre-independence India. One final note, the hotel does not have the good sense to put proper signage for its entrance to the lobby - which is one out of two small inconspicuous doors - at the end of a tiny driveway. The other door was, I am told the entrance to a club, with the unpleasant sight of many bouncers standing outside. All-in-all, I checked out a day earlier and lost one night’s charges - but atleast avoided continuing the awful experience of having stayed at this hotel. This was a nightmare experience for me and travelers should thoroughly research this hotel, its amenities and facilities before deciding to stay here. Atleast you will know what you’re paying for. While it is futile to praise the location as it is located at the heart of Kolkata in Shakespeare Sarani, I would like to point out a few things. So before booking our stay, I read some surprisingly bad reviews about the hotel and also the staff at Kebab-e-Queue restaurant. However, here's how it's going for me right now. Mr. Anup Jalan helped me book their Durga Puja special buffet in the 'Abar Elo Maa' segment. Now, after I already gave an advance, I noticed some discounted price of the buffet at an online reservation platform. It is a pretty common thing that online prices offer more discounts due to special tie-ups with the hotels. But the moment I inquired about the same to Mr. Jalan, he immediately told me that he is willing to match the online price that I had came across. This was such a sweet and humble gesture because he could have easily denied the same while staying well within the rules. Coming to the check-in, The Astor has probably one of the smoothest check-in experiences. All the staff,housekeeping and others are extremely humble and attentive. About the experience at Kebab-e-Queue, we had the dinner buffet on Saptami 2025, and it was fabulous. While the food quality was pretty decent, Saptam, who was attending us at the table, was extremely skilled and humble. I was shocked to hear that he apologized to me just because he was late by a minute or two to serve me a particular dish I had ordered!! While I do not understand why a service staff needs to be so bowed down towards the guests as everyone must be treated as an equal and have a professional attitude, the reason for me pointing this particular incident out was because I had read that staff at Kebab-e-Queue was 'rude!' Well, to conclude, my current experience at The Astor is top notch and I would request people to come and enjoy their amazing hospitality.

We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay than the Astor. The location is terrific. The food is super. And, above all, the staff - starting from the reception to the housekeeping, room service, breakfast staff and those in the kitchens - everyone is FABULOUS. They are kind, gentle, cheerful, helpful and observant. They made our visit to Calcutta a very memorable one .. from the wee notes on the bed, the welcome notes from the Manager, the Pujo sweets from the Housekeeping team ... and the birthday celebration they created for me in the room ... with balloons and decorations and a superb cake :) We stayed in the Heritage Suite on the first floor. Spacious and comfortable, we slept very well for all the nights we stayed. The hotel itself is a 10 minute walk to the St. Paul's Cathedral and a bit further up, to the Victoria Memorial's East Gate. I wish I could remember the names of all the lovely staff at the Astor, although here are some I do: Rahamat, Samrat, Amit, Gopal, Anirban ... Thank you all for your kindness and hospitality.
