My only complaint is it’s very noisy; other patrons are treating the common area as if it’s an Air Bnb; yelling up the stairs to one another, & just loud. It’s not the restful night I thought I’d have. I really love the room and area but maybe a stay during the week would be better.

Kim (6/5): So much potential but poorly run - The property is managed by a property manager rather than an innkeeper. There were many problems. Our kitchen wasn’t clean, the promised breakfast was late and not good. The website says housekeeping is included but the housekeeper didn’t show. When I asked her about it she said I had to request service and pay for it. The coffee machine wasn’t working, the creamer was not fresh. The attention to detail is sorely lacking. The Carriage house is cute, but the service was absolutely terrible for $500+ per night. There was no space in the bathrooms for toiletries. Towel hooks were positioned next to the toilet. Absolutely no amenities. Waters were promised in the rooms and never provided. This property has potential but the execution needs work.

Kristie (8/5): Lovely getaways from work hustle - A selection of cute rooms and a gorgeous parlor room with plenty of seating, work space, amenities from the coffee, drinks, and snack bars. Wrap around porch for cool evening seating, bicycles, and fire pit for coziness. Rooms include fridge, coffee machines, and smart TVs. Great AC and bath options. Some street noise/traffic and roadwork at some times.

Margret (8/5): - The Ashley is very charming. We had a clean, lovely room with access to the porch, where we would drink our morning coffee. The breakfast sandwiches and coffee were great too. When checking in, there was a bit of a snafu with our reservation but the woman on the phone who helped me was very kind and accommodating. She immediately took care of the problem. I would definitely stay there again.
Nancy (6/5): - The room itself was fairly comfortable and quite clean. The deck would have been a lovely place to enjoy but it was dirty and unkept. Furniture was dusty and not appealing. Major disappointment Other guests were polite and quiet, but the location is extremely loud. It’s difficult to get a good sleep with sirens and broken exhaust systems roaring up and down Ashley street. I would suggest providing your guests a simple map of the “ old town and French Quarter. A hard copy simple map is very helpful particularly if you use the bikes. As this property is A long walk from the French Quarter, a list of good eating establishments nearby would also be helpful to guests. We finally found some good restaurants nearby. We loved the bikes and felt comfortable locking them up in French Quarter. My lock was broken so you might want to review the equipment. Breakfast was ok, after two mornings the yogurt appeared :) I am not sure I would recommend this property to fellow travelers

Information for WiFi didn’t tell you the name of the network so when you try to connect to TheAshley it fails. That’s not the network for you. 😳 They should tell you on each room listing how many stairs you have to climb to get to your room and when they say take the back stairs from the parking area, they don’t mean the skinny spiral staircase. Finally, the parking area is NOT behind the building. The Ashley is at the corner of Ashley and Bee and the parking area is at the Bee St entrance.

There is no front desk and the only person available to talk to were the people who clean the rooms. When asked about the food that was advertised her answer was “we ran out”. It’s also not in the French Quarter and we had to drive to get there and pay a lot to park. I would recommend staying directly in the French Quarter.

It’s very well kept very clean and we loved the location and boutique feel! We will be coming back next time we are in Charleston! Would not recommend for elderly people as they do have stairs that are steep so plan according! But my almost 2 year old had no issue so I would say kid friendly!

Could hear all movement on the stairs- probably to be expected in historic property, but there was also loud construction or some kind of engine nearby starting at 6 am every day including the weekend. Couldnt figure out the thermostat so it was cold at night. Also they wouldnt give us a late checkout, which I understand but was still a bit frustrating. A warning about the early morning noise would be nice.

Miki (6/5): Feedback from room 5&6 - I booked two rooms for trip with friends. There are a couple things I want to share for better service in the future. 1. Breakfast was served at 1st FL and coffee maker was broken. Many of customers were not happy. 2. Coffee maker at room 5 was broken too. 3. Air filter was super noisy at room 5&6. 4. Toilet in room 6 was kept flashing. 5. Bath soap bottle in shower room at room 6 was broken.

The bathroom was gorgeous - the only thing I would change is to add a second mirror as the one above the sink was small and not very clear. A full length in the room would be amazing! We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was lack listed. Some real milk for coffee would have been nice. But there are cafes within walking distance and an amazing French patisserie in town. We would stay here again if we came back to Charleston.

Julianne (10/5): LOVED THE ASHLEY! - The Ashley is the most beautiful, quaint hotel in the area. We had Room 3 which was perfect for two friends. The main room had a king bed plus desk and coffee area, and a separate room with a fold out sofa! Gave us both the privacy and space we needed. PLUS had the most gorgeous veranda! It was warm enough to sit outside for a bit. The shower had so much water pressure - a treat for California girls. They offered a delicious breakfast bagel and coffee bar with sodas and waters. Great value! The manager Price was so kind as he had to come back to help us with the lock. He was personable and offered suggestions of where to go and what to do. We would go back to Charleston just to stay at The Ashley!

joseph (8/5): - Be aware if it matters; it is not a full service bed and breakfast. There is no staff on site usually. The room and accommodations were fine but its more a self service model. Also it is about a mile or so to most of the main 'attractions' if walking is an issue.

Greg (4/5): - We were without power in the bathroom due to a breaker issue in another room. Then, the fire alarm went off about 1:30 in the morning in another room. There was a downstairs to our room that was below ground, it had no windows and was damp- not worth paying for. To top it off, I became ill overnight and we had to leave a day early, not heard if I will be charged for the day we had to leave. I’ll go back to Charleston, but will not stay here.

They were so helpful and responded so quickly! It’s a lovely and charming little place to stay and you really feel like you’re in the center of all the charm Charleston had to offer!

Rachel (8/5): - My husband and I are Charleston natives, and we decided to do a stay-cation here for my birthday. This place is beautiful! We loved our room, we loved the common spaces, and there were some great amenities. A few things seemed overlooked. We booked the speakeasy room and looked forward to hanging out in the speakeasy. The stairs down to the speakeasy room seemed to be lubed or greased, we kept finding black grease stains on our hands and clothes after going up and down the stairs. The tv downstairs didn't work, we thought it was due to dead batteries. After we switched batteries (with batteries we had) and turned it on, the TV still did not work. It kinda ruined the vibe but not the whole stay. The breakfast was great, they provided homemade bacon, egg & cheese bagel sandwiches. Quaker Oatmeal and some granola bars were also available as well as lots of drink options. The nespresso machines in the common area as well as in our room were really great. Fresh fruit was advertised, but the only fruit available were two old tangerines. As someone who can't eat dairy, I checked ahead of time that food options for me would be available and was disappointed when they weren't. Overall, we loved this place. It was clean, had great amenities, we met some cool people, and it was a beautiful property. Some little things just seemed overlooked. We would definitely recommend it and stay here again!!

daniel (8/5): - This location is absolutely amazing! Everything is designed to make our stay enjoyable. I gave 4 stars only because of the bedding—we had an uncomfortable night as the mattress seemed used and developed a noticeable dip, which made sleeping difficult. The pillows also weren’t to our liking.
Robert brandon (10/5): - My room was clean as a whistle, I felt like I was almost back in the 1800s LOL... Brand new bath, lots of towels, comfy bed, antique wooden floors..14ft ceilings.... Room number 2 was small but cozy very enjoyable. Nice little sitting area beautiful veranda.... The breakfast sandwich was excellent....
Joanna (10/5): - This is a beautiful bed and breakfast. The house is so nice! Great feel of historical time period 1800s. There is everything you need. It is self serve more like an Air bnb. No staff or check in. Communication however was great and all very easy. Free parking nice and breakfast was good. Also loved Nespresso in the room! Easy walk to King St. Highly recommend this beautiful place!
