We particularly loved the lounge area with self serve bar - it created a great atmosphere and felt like we were entertaining in our own home. There are a lot of stairs - so check suitability for anyone less able to manage these.

- Paul (3/5): Very disappointed plus cost - It was cold in room hot water after running water for 45 mins r Then run shower for hot water because of no heat the towels did not dry were not replaced till we ask the last night we had heat we would like say my partner being disabled had a problem with the stairs as at the top of the stairs was a fire exit door which opened with difficulty and for someone standing on the stairs it was difficult to get through without falling so had to have someone holding the door open. When booking did not notice no lifts. Also no restaurant.

- geraldine (8/5): Relaxing and enjoyable. Liked the bar. - Enjoyed the old style of the building and its location slightly away from the centre of Cowes. Comfortable room with amazing views. We were walking around the IOW so it was good to find out in advance that they didn’t do evening meals. We ate in Cowes before walking on to the hotel.

- jobetim (6/5): A Marmite Hotel - you'll probably love it! - This is a bit of a 'Marmite' place - many on here have liked it for its 'quirkiness',decor, and all-together 'un-hotel' like vibe, and the personal attention of Margaret, the impressive manager. Others would point out that the bedrooms are small and dated, that there is little or no hanging space for clothes, that the bathrooms are small and that the TVs are on the old side. Breakfast was pretty good, but the eggs tended to be overcooked. Take your pick really. We felt that that our overall experience was rather average, and that the room costs do not really justify the experience, but in general we'd recommend this place, so long as you realise what you're going to get. What isn't in doubt though, is that it's a fairly long walk up a hill from west Cowes, and that, after an evening out, you might wish to arrange a taxi home.

If you are looking for a standard chain hotel with insipid decor and character- this hotel is NOT for you. It is full of interesting things including an impressive sailing gallery with lots of personal messages for the owner. Everything was very clean. Lots of quirky character Nothing at all. Andy was competing in the Admiral's Cup and Fasnet races. It was the perfect, just out of town, place to rest, regroup, relax and fully experience the history of Cowes. Hope to visit again. If you want to feel at home, this is your place.

Location is excellent. Breakfast was exceptional with such a great choice. While you have breakfast you get to look out watching the sailing boats go by. Just perfect. Margaret and Zac were so friendly and very helpful. There is also a bar with an honesty box if you fancy a drink later on. We would definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. - Jeremy (9/5): Superb - We had our large dog (labradoodle) with us so we sat outside for our breakfast which was no problem….took a few trips to find all things we needed for our table…After that we really enjoyed the fantastic selection of fresh fruit and yogurt…followed by an amazing tasty full cooked breakfast Served by very friendly Young man that was always chatty and genuine. The room was fantastic and we enjoyed the views of the ships and ferries leaving Southampton. Great coffee maker plenty of tea bags and fresh milk available. This is a beautiful family home with an amazing history…it’s a step back in time amazing. Also a dog walking wood descending to the beach was right beside the property. Brilliant Nothing much..Only thing I would have liked a small fridge at this price

Fabulous harbour views . Comfortable clean room and excellent breakfast Lost hot water on last morning but owner apologised with bottle of wine and corrected problem immediately

Top notch, friendly, welcoming staff who go out of their way to make guests feel at home. An oasis of calm with sea views. Breakfast is superb and there is a relaxing drawing room in which to enjoy a drink. Our room was attractive and comfortable with a sea view.

A warm welcome from Margaret and other staff (Zak who served breakfast was very affable) Wonderful view of the Solent from our room on the top floor with its balcony. Certainly worth the effort (about 110 steps up the road from the beach, up the garden path, into the dining room and up to the garret .....Morning Cloud) A help yourself honesty bar is unusual and very welcome. Breakfast time offered excellent choices and the croissants offered very stiff competition to any French bakery. Yachting photos, paintings and ephemera covers the walls. Would much rather come and stay here than any "corporate styled" beige anonymous hotel. Would we come back....resoundingly YES!
