Guest Reviews
- ADRIAN (6/5): - The parking is not lit and i didnt sleep well since i was afraid someone would break into my car. There were no cameras in the parking lot either.
- Roberto XR (8/5): - Excellent service
- Jonathan (8/5): - The property is at the end of the Malicon, so a little more quiet. Our room faced the beach, and although the Caribbean was beautiful, the beach at this section is less groomed. The room was nice, had a small kitchenette, and was good size. However, small maintenance issues were noticeable. This was not a big deal to me, but some might be bothered. The hotel is right at the start of the shops and restaurants. The staff does not speak much English, but we had no problem using an app translator. They were all very friendly and helpful. I have stayed here before, and I would stay again. For the price, its a very nice option.
- Alicia (10/5): - Es un lugar tranquilo, muy cómodo.
- Dwayne (6/5): - Beach was unusable due to Sargasso weed. check in time was later than listed. Came back to the room to find someone in my bed who was drunk and came into the wrong room. also the sliding glass doors didn't close properly and had large gaps. no access to trash or water from the room. Staff was nice.
- spartn001 (10/5): 4 days of pure relaxation - Awesome 4 days spent here in the most quietest area of the beach. Honestly the best hotel for the price. Amazing staff and yes the building has new owners which are still putting in effort to repairing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice Hotel at the south end of the malacon. Room was large and comfortable right on the beach of Mahahual. Nice balcony for sitting. The beach view is off the pier and not the best of Mahahual, but certainly a nice Caribbean view. Plenty of restaurants and retail just out the door. We had some internet and TV problems, but they quickly offered a new room. No coffee in room or at hotel.. Had to head out to get morning coffee. They are building more rooms on the other side of the malacon. They will NOT be on the beach. Probably check which room before booking. We will stay again.
- katieshoe2018 (8/5): Could use some TLC... - I’ve been traveling to Mahahual for many years and have had the opportunity to stay in many places. This hotel, which I was shocked to see listing Junior suites with kitchenettes, was by far the BEST deal. Or so I thought. I booked several months in advance. Upon arrival, there was not gas for the stove top nor any cookware what so ever. The first night was sleepless because the air conditions made so much noise that, unless you had ear plugs, good luck. My husband insisted on a different room so the staff did accommodate however, in the second room, the toilet, shower and sink would spontaneously stop working at any time during the day. Additionally, the beach was not cleaned...
I have to say, the staff were very nice though. They cleaned the room each day, brought us fresh water and towels and found us cookware and spare utensils. It looked like they were in transition as by the time we left they were working on cleaning up the outside. I may give this place a second chance...
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotal was closed, due to some electric problem. There was another hotel, same company, the staff explained us the situation, we had to accept because we were already there, that hotel was ok, but it is not even next to the beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Not easy to control the water temperatures in the shower.
Great location and nice views.
- 02aggies (2/5): Horrible - We have been to Mahahual several times.. an awesome vacation place....this hotel was very poor....sewer smell outside and inside....rooms were ok...bathrooms were toliet/ sink/shower that flooded entire bathroom then smelled more... people that worked there were fair but could have cared less about anything.. not very friendly....DO NOT STAY THERE....too many nicer hotels for your $
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worn out! - Not user friendly. Lacking basics like wash cloths. Owner/staff communication issues. Restaurant full of flys and very hot. Questioned an error in the reservation and was verbally chastised by the owners. Constant sewer odor the entire stay in our room and all around the hotel. Would never recommend or stay there again!
- tamaraf829 (6/5): Not as expected - Mahahual is a nice and quite place..
Unfortunately they need to take care more of the hotel ,it isn't at all in good conditions. Staff don't really care about the facility ,it has a great location but you can't really enjoy
Check out ni tan si quiera había nadie
- AngeldeMexico2022 (2/5): Termites, stained bed sheets and incompetent owner/staff - worst hotel ever! - I booked a junior suit at this hotel as I read some good reviews. However, my room was full of hair (bed and sofa-bed), toilet was full of urine, closets had termites, beach was full of trash (plastic bottles and plastic bags) and the incompetent owner/staff were rude and incompetent.
The first day I arrived, I asked the hotel's staff to clean the room properly. One of the staff members said that he needed to leave and that he would do the cleaning quickly. I mentioned that it was not my problem and I wanted to have the room properly done. In the end, hair was swept away instead of vacuumed, termites only wiped away with water, and stained bed sheets replaced.
The room had holes in the ceiling and the smell from the algae that had been accumulated at the shore was unbearable.
Mahahual has been suffering from an abnormal accumulation of algae (i.e. Sargasso). However, all other hotels in Mahahual clean their shores so that clients have a good time, in addition to the minimum cleanness a hotel should have. Porto Coral had sadly not done anything. Smell and trash had accumulated in excess turning its shore into a dump site.
My experience with the hotel was so that I went back to Playa del Carmen one day earlier as planned. I canceled one night and asked for a reimbursement. However, after arguing with the staff and the owner for one hour, I was told that because of their policy that was not possible. The owner instead of trying to understand the situation, he claimed that I was threatening him mentioning that in Mahahual it is normal that hotels have cockroaches.
I was offered to go to a different room but after seeing the conditions of the "junior suit" and the conditions of the facilities and unbearable smell, I declined. It was a nightmare.
Last, I asked for an invoice as in Mexico (as in any other place in the world) clients have the right to receive an invoice with the breakdown of the costs and taxes that were paid. The owner asked what was that. In the end a woman who never identified herself but assumed she was related to the owner - also Italian) appeared and gave a "note" which was a simple paper stating "Mr. X paid the amount of X".
- johnsZ8488OA (4/5): bad situations - really watch your items at all times not all the people there are honest . also make sure you know if there are pets in the rooms (especially dogs ) kept me awake till i had to go down to desk at 1 in the morning . also watch your exchange rate on peso when paying in us funds or credit card. beware
- maria (6/5): Beautiful place - The hotel look a lot older than the pic in your page. No place to sit and relax on the outside of the hotel. The bathroom smell like sewer.
Down town area was beautiful with nice place to enjoy the beach and great food.
I will come back to visit but not stay in this hotel.
- ScottH985 (6/5): A Decent Hotel in Mahahual if You Have Somewhere Else to Be - This property has definitely seen better days and needs a lot of work (the hotel's photos are definitely from more than few years ago) but if you are just looking for somewhere clean and air conditioned to sleep at night in between daily off-site activities, then Porto Coral is a decent place to stay for your money. Located at the end of the malecon, there isn't much foot traffic and the bars are far enough away so it is pretty quiet.
During check-in, we were greeted by Fabio. He was efficient and friendly. During the limited hours that the front desk was manned, he was by far the most helpful and friendly. The older lady behind the desk in the evening wasn't really all that helpful at all - one of my daughters slipped on the wet tile floor in our room and really needed some ice for her knee - the desk lady's reply was that we would need to walk down about two blocks and buy a bag; there apparently wasn't any behind the bar or they didn't want to part with any.
We booked a suite and were let into room #6. Other than it being a bit larger than another room I saw there during my stay, I'm not sure why it would have been classified a sweet or required an upgrade in price. Overall, the room was OK. The air conditioner worked well, the room was cleaned each day - the beds were made, floors were cleaned, new toiletries, soap and shampoo were replaced, etc and the two twin beds were reasonably comfortable. I will say that the shower was excellent. Lots of hot water and the pressure was magnificent! The Internet was fast and we could access it from lobby or the breezeway on the second floor but the inadequate furniture, mosquitos and horseflies made access from outside pretty miserable.
I got the impression that the room wasn't finished however; the headboards weren't attached to anything so every time my wife or I moved around in bed the headboard would bang on the wall - we both agreed that we woke each other up on occasion each night during our stay. There were bare electrical wires hanging from the ceiling, no shower curtain, towel racks or a place to hang wet clothes. Everything in the entire bathroom was soaked after each shower (did I mention the magnificent water pressure in the shower?). Interior paint looked like someone unexpectedly walked off of the job. There was one barstool and something that sort of passed for a low table with one small bench seat. There was a super small TV (slightly larger than my iPad) that we could see from one bed though there was an empty TV mount on remaining on the wall, which served as one place we could comfortably hang wet towels or clothing. There was a small fridge that would cool down drinks overnight.
They had coffee, but it wasn't usually ready until well after 9am - too late for me to be interested. The bar was pretty poorly stocked but did have a few cold beers available at a good price.
They advertise that they are the only hotel on the beach but I wouldn't really call it a beach at all; no one is going to hangout in back of the hotel or get in the water there. Thier property definitely touches the water but it is dirt and there are boats stored back there in various states of repair.
- WWUVIK (10/5): So nice! So comfortable! We hope to come back very soon - From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the Italian family that runs this hotel. The room we had was beautiful, right in the beach! The coffee is delicious! I would recommend this hotel to anyone around the world. I want to go back very soon! Mahahual is a gem!
- 222Sabine (10/5): Charming hotel with most charming hosts - We loved our stay at Porto coral, , actually extended it, it was so lovely...
It was priceless experience with Fabio and Enzo and of course Goku, their beautiful boxer. The beach is pretty much private, which is amazing, the rooms cozy and comfy
I can only highly recommend!!!!!!!
- C604UIlauraj (6/5): Mixed point of vue - We were welcomed by a lovely women who explained us about the life in mahahual and directed us to good restaurants and dive centers.
However, when we got our marks in the room, we noticed that it had a wet atmosphere, as it's nearby the sea, so the AC was needed to dry the air.
The bathroom was very smelly but some hotels are the same, I think they can't do anything about it, we filled up a plastic bag with water to obstruct the hole of the shower.
The room was cleaned up every day with new towels and sheets.
The view from the room was directly going onto the sea, 10 meters, it was nice.
The matress was made with old springs, so every mouvement you make, wakes up the other one.
Last thing, we asked to the two receptionists to lower down the level of their gaming network, because they play in the hall, and as our room was the first, we heared everything...(I didn't ask to change when we arrived as it seemed to have nobody) but, this didn't stop the VERY loud noise they made talking to eachother...most of the time it was like they were with us...
- 324keniaa (8/5): Nice hotel - We stayed in Porto Coral for 2 nights. The hosts were very nice and welcoming.
The room we were located in was great , but we found little ants on the bed. The location is just perfect since it's in a part of the street that's calmer and more serene.
The hosts are very nice and they were very present for our needs and questions!
The dog is so friendly too :)
- Robertini2016 (10/5): Most amazing place in Mexico!!! - Enjoy a fantastic time in this cosy very nice hotel on the beach 20 meters from the ocean! Sleeping with the window open listening to the ocean, amazing. Very nice host offering excellent service: simply the best place to be!
- Akhila607 (10/5): Una bellissima Ultima notte a Mahahual - We spent our last night in Mahahual in this beautiful Hotel.
The room was just perfect; big clean and with an incredible view on the ocean.
The Staff was super kind and allowed us a later check in with no charge.
I would defintely rec this Hotel and I can't wait to be back!
- sandralG8288EU (10/5): Hidden gem - We came across that hotel randomly and we're so glad we did! We intended to stay only a night or two and ended up staying 5. We had a lovely room with view of the mangroves and the ocean and the price was very reasonable. We woke every morning to the beautiful sound of the waves and birds chirping. We could sometimes see some fishermen at work! The staff was friendly and laidback just like the rest of Mahahual. The manager was extremely helpful; she went above and beyond to make us enjoy our stay. We felt like we stayed in their welcoming house but still had privacy. The owner made us the best cappucinos we've ever had. There was construction in progress during our stay but it didn't lessen our experience and I'm sure it will look fantastic. Location was great; nearby the main strip, yet very quiet and right on the water. We absolutely loved our stay and definitely will recommend to friends & family (already have been recommending!)
Thank you again for a wonderful stay!
Sandra & David
- scarab242 (10/5): Nice hotel with a view to the beautiful beach - When I was staying there the hotel was not ready completely, but it didn't lower the value of it at all! I really loved the morning view of the sea, the calmness, the ZEN of the place, and actually the whole town was like this. The personal was also really great, not only the manager and the receptionists, but even the security guy. I really love that place, and I didn't regret my choice. I definitely would return!
- 805paolod (10/5): Wunderbar! Fantastico! Amazing! - Wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff, clean and pet friendly!
Puerto coral has everything you need for your holiday in Mahaual!
From Italy and Germany five stars! We stayed there four nights and we loved it!
Thanks guys!!! :)
- R2160QQdonnad (10/5): Delightful stay - Excellent stay!
Fantastic care to detail and very friendly
Clara makes the best coffee in town.
Clean, quiet, and fantastic views.
Linens good quality, bed very comfy.
Enzo, owner on site.
Bike rentals available on site.
They offer kitchenettes.
Rooms are of great size.
- lesfilolies (10/5): The Best Location in Town - Located up the quiet end of malecon ,this is the only hotel right on the beach in Mahuhual, the views from the rooms are stupendous. Great value for money big rooms spotlessly clean with kitchen areas. There are a few maintenance issues but this in no way upset our stay, in fact we extended it . The hotel is under new management , the Italian managers are extremely helpful , kind , gave us loads of tips on local restaurants the best beach areas etc. They are working hard renovating the hotel and I wish them all the best with this little piece of paradise
- 749anniec (10/5): Just what you need for a relaxing stay at Mahahual - We were going to stay for 2 nights and ended up at Porto Coral for a week. The hotel staff were helpful, friendly, easy going, knowledgeable and spoke fluent Spanish, Italian and English. There is free wifi, free water, excellent coffee, a room safe, small fridge, skyTV, super comfy beds and great aircon. Each room has a balcony and there is also an outside area to watch the abundant wildlife on the cleared beach area directly outside. There is an arrangement with beach clubs 100m away if you want to soak up the sun and the hotel provides beach towels too. We rented hotel bikes at very reasonable rates. The hotel is at the south end of the Malecon and away from the cruise ship crowds but with easy access to everything in the town. We had such a good time staying here and want to return next year (first time I've said that in 15 years of travelling!).
- Kenny (4/5): Rude staff. - The staff was rude.
