David (6/5): - I have stayed at this property before and never been disappointed but sadly this time standards had dropped. Hotel needs a deep clean , carpets on my floor (4) were stained. Bedroom needed a revamp , towels and bedding although clean are way past their best. Reception friendliness varied as to who was on the desk. Young gentleman was always helpful. On a positive note this is a cheap hotel and I guess you get what you pay for . A clean bed , a shower and a room.

robert (8/5): Central. Not French at all. Awful WiFi. - Nice modern property in the centre. Housekeeping is great . However the AC is super cold and can’t be turned down. Wifi is very bad; won’t connect. Hotel is aware but have an antiquated system which wot be updated?

Verified traveler (10/5): - This was probably the best hotel in Ipoh! They even provide free parking! The aircond is super cold and the best part of all- THE HOTEL IS NEAR TO ALL THE TOP TOURIST ATTRACTIONS! This is going to be the only hotel I come back to if I ever visit Ipoh! ❤️

Room is a bit date and basic. King bed is really two twins pushed together. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Helped arrange transportation as needed.

Boon Hup (8/5): Some room for improvement. - Overnight stay. Pleasant. Very helpful staff. Only two shortcomings. The water was a trickle when I bathed at night. Took Long time to wash off shampoo and soap. Then as was with my previous trip the wifi had no connection to the internet.

Yan Hoe (10/5): - Our stay at hotel was great. Staff were friendly and capable. Hotel is well located and within walking distant to places of interest and restaurants. There is a sunday market just next to the hotel and is definitely worth exploring.
Raymond Ho (8/5): A Pleasant Stay at French Hotel, Ipoh - The lighting in the room is somewhat like stage lighting and a bit dim. The toilet and bathing facilities are good. Strangely the bathroom mirror is rather low and will suit those who are 1.5m or less. Also, the wardrobe is only half height without any door. The hotel does not provide you with basic items like toothbrushes, earbuds or shavers or combs. You have to bring them along or go to the nearby shops to buy them. The sound proofing is not so good as you can hear guests talking and stomping around at 2 to 3 am. There is a day market on Saturday at a lane next to the hotel and the hawkers blare their music early in the morning around 6.30 am and the sound permeates into the room. I am amused by the hotel staff charging clients M$0.50cents for a color road map of Ipoh which I think they got free from the MTPB. However, a photocopy of the same map is free. On checking in, the staff requested M$200 deposit for NO SMOKING security in your room. They prefer hard cash as they claimed the credit card given to them could not be 'activated'. There are some eating places as well as confectionery shops within walking distance(1-2km). For eating places further away, it is easy to get Grab taxi which costs around M$5-9. Going to the airport is only M$9/-. However, going further like Kellie's castle or visiting the tin dredge may set you back around M$25-35/- per trip, but its worth it.

Verified traveler (10/5): Unhappy with the customer service - My stay was ok however I was unhappy as I need to pay an extra amount of rm40 since the extra large king room wasn’t available. Since I have already booked and paid for the extra large king room and if it wasn’t available they should just upgrade me to the room they have given (king+single bed). Instead I have to pay more, so I wasn’t that happy.
Verified traveler (4/5): - Whole hotel was dimly lighted. Cannot see clearly. The advertisement put room for 3 and we can request for additional bed. When we check in they say the hotel is only for 2 pax. So we need to pay additional Rm40 for another pax, which they gave us a mattress on the floor with some bedsheet and one pillow. The bed was close together and the phone had to be put on the bed, near the pillow. Also,we need to buy one own toothbrush and toothpaste.And the parking is located and share with other public cars.

TJ (8/5): Hotel near shopping malls, in city center - Hotel has free parking but it's one building away at an open air carpark. Below has 7-11 and Watson's just opposite, so no worries if you forgot to pack anything. Price is reasonable and everything is well kept not run down at all.

Hot water, shower WC all in good order. Parking is located at about 50 meters away, open air but reasonably safe as it is also popularly used by the paying-public.

Lilian (8/5): Good 2-night stay - Hotel appears to be situated at a quiet part of the city, with most attractions (famous food stalls, Concubine Lane) being about 15 to 30 minutes away. Walking to various attractions is definitely possible but Grab and Uber is very convenient. Most rides were less then rm 5, with only our rides to and from Kek Lok Tong costing more than rm10 (iirc, Rm11 and Rm15). Room was clean, not a lot of channels on tv but we were out most of the time anyway, water pressure can be stronger.

dc77au (8/5): Great value in excellent location - We stayed 2 Nights at this hotel. We had a nice view down the main street. The room was clean and comfortable. Has a nice shower, beds are a little firm for us. The breakfast is a fixed menu (limited) with Western style available in a nice rustic style cafe. The location is central, with good eating places close by and in walking distance to the old town. There is a convenient money changer across the street and 7-11 store nearby. This place is good value for money and the staff at reception are very friendly and helpful with our requests. If I was going to be a little critical, even on the higher floors there can be street noise and we could clearly hear a band playing live music across the road late into the night. Overall, would stay at this hotel again.

Location walking distance to many eateries, local wet market, The Store, KFC, First Coffee House, Trash n Treasure mkt on Sunday morning at door step of hotel. Special mention: Wenesa at front desk was Super. Her suggestion as to where to go, how to get there n even helping us Bk the tour at Han Chin Pet Soo was greatly appreciated.

Convenience is good as it is walking distance to many food fare. Except for the following: Wifi was a real disappointment, there were other guests complaining of the poor reception and stability of the wifi service Parents of two young girls given a room on lvl 2 while girls on lvl 5 We hope to be back for more food trail.
Lee (8/5): Great Location for local food near Hotel. - The location is great with great food all around the hotel area, all within walking distance! The only thing i hated most is the free WIFI that requires you to re-login in everytime i came back to the room. A free parking is located just a stone thrown away for all their hotel guests.
ElainePL (6/5): Essentials in the bathroom - Hotel staff are approachable and helpful... checking-in was a breeze. The room is reasonable clean and tidy. The location of the hotel is within many eateries and Watsons is just within a stone throw away. However, many of the so-called restaurants only operate during office hours. One has to hunt for dinner and night snacks. French hotel does provide a map for eateries during the evening but only some are operational.
Alfred Lee (8/5): Nice Hotel in Ipoh - The location of hotel is good and convenient, close to the old town and some attractive places even famous restaurants. For those drive the car, actually hotel got provided free parking, just sometimes you will feel unsafe due to the public parking but better than find parking. The room is clean and comfy, especially bathroom is very nice and clean also. The receptionist very friendly and helpful. Overall, I love this hotel for my first time came to Ipoh and stay at here.

Denise (4/5): bad arrangement on car park - hotel car park is a non-shading and public sharing car park, especially if holiday during the weekend/PH is more worst to find parking lot during late evening time, and Sunday Flea Market surrounding the hotel area makes the parking and traffic become more worst.

Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay. - French hotel has a bunch of great staffs helping us throughout the stay. They allowed us for earlier check-in. Room is new and clean, well maintained! Strategic location for food hunting travelers. We just walked around after we check-in. Wifi is in a great speed too. But take note of the morning market along the alley, it started at 6am. Noticed they didn't provide some essential items (eg: toothbrush, toothpaste and comb). In-room slippers are provided with charges which was a big minus.
Sow Lin (10/5): Food trail hotel - The receptionist Weneasa is exceptional good. Very pofessional yet helpful. She'll go to the extend to meet all your needs as far as possible. Following the food trail provided is not impressive as like stores 12 & 13 had closed. There are now a tobacco shop & optical shop now. So frequent checks must be done to update the list. No entertainment around the area at night. Rather quiet. You have to travel far like the distance for the food trail to look for them. Once it rains you have nothing to do but stay in your room as nothing attractive is closeby. Thus using food trail to attract tourist is good if more detailed info about the individual store like rating them will be better guidelines to their quality of good. Update on what's good & delicious like instant production of chee chong fun as per request at coffee shop which was delicious but omitted in the list. Other like Seremban Siew Pow around the corner from MacDonald is freshly bake. It taste so yummy & crunchy even when you have it next morning.

Initially, we have parked our car in the wrong place and we didn't notice it. Until, the staff knocked our door at 10.30 pm and informed us that we have parked our car in the wrong place and requested us to move our car to the Hotel's designated parking area. (As such, I believe they were panic when they found out that our car was not at their parking area). =) Thank you for being cautious!!!
