Guest Reviews
- john (4/5): - Kind of run down and dumpy, not very clean. Place is really tired and needs a lot of attention. Well situated but owners don’t reinvest in the property.
- Dorothy (10/5): Beautiful B&B in a great location! - The B&B is comfortable and perfectly situated a short walk from the very center of old town. The service was excellent and Susana was a wonderful hostess!
- Nathan (10/5): - 👍
- Neil (8/5): - Great location for visiting old Quebec, the Citadel and surrounding area.
- Brenda (6/5): - This B&B is in a perfect location for exploring old
- Cynthia (8/5): - We knew parking would be difficult but staff was less that helpful, directing us to one that was full the whole time we were there. Found a spot on our own. The location was great, but we soon realized that any spot inside the walls would also be great. Some of the furnishings looked liked they’d been found on the street. The dead plant in the bathroom and empty planters on the balcony ( except for butts) could be removed.
- Barbara (10/5): Great little B&B - Lively little historic place with only a few rooms. Easy walk to everything. Right next to famous chateau Frontenac and the water. 2 green space areas right next to it. The breakfast was really good and reasonably priced as well. Daniel was very friendly and helpful ! Strong wifi connection too.
- Eryn (10/5): Amazing Weekend Getaway - Amazing stay, exceptionally comfortable and Daniel was super helpful and friendly. Right in the heart of Old Quebec with easy access to all the sites. We were in Room 1 on the top floor and it was very comfortable, clean and quiet. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely location in Old Quebec. Very walkable location to a lot of attractions surrounding.
- Kevin (10/5): - Great location.
Host was awesome and helpful for us, first time visitors to Old Quebec.

- Kevin (10/5): A beautiful location!!!!! - A very enjoyable stay! Our hostess
' Suzanna' was incredible! She was very kind and helpful! A great location ! ..A short walk to the 1849 tobbogan slide! Our first time visit was perfect! Carnival du QUÉBEC 2025 is incredible! We look forward to our next visit!!!!!!
- Steven (8/5): - The BnB was within walking distance, clean, quiet and the breakfasts were good. I booked thinking there were sleeping accommodations for two but found they were for one so a 4” foam mattress topper was provided. Sleep was a bit uncomfortable. Susanna was an excellent manager with good and timely communication and knowledgeable about the area.
- Stephen G. (10/5): - This is a quintessential old world bed and breakfast with a wonderful staff. We loved it and them.
- Joelle (10/5): - Veronic was fabulous and so friendly and helped us to make reservations for our special dinner. The food at breakfast was also delicious and felt like family style dining.i loved soaking in the deep claw foot tub. Overall a beautiful stay.
- William (10/5): - This Bed and Breakfast is one block from the heart of Ild Quebec City on a very quiet street. The facility was charming, clean and tastefully restored. The staff was helpful, courteous and friendly. The breakfast buffet was delicious. We will definitely stay there again.
- Michael (10/5): - We had a wonderful time! The breakfast was delicious and prepared by a friendly and helpful staff member who even made some for us the next day when we were leaving too early to join in breakfast!
- Andre (10/5): - Everything was great!!
- Matthew (8/5): Great couples getaway - Veronique and her staff were very attentive, present, and welcoming. They received us very well and made sure to check on any details. We will certainly return. Fantastic location in Old Quebec.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely interactions with the proprietor. The Library Room was comfortable (Note: The bed in this room is a "full/double") and we could sense the history of the place. The location (within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants, view of the St. Laurence, and Plains of Abraham) is fabulous.
- Tamara (10/5): Home Away From Home - This charming B&B is in an 1880’s home on a quiet street just a couple blocks from the boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawerence River. You can easily walk to anything that you want to see or do in Old Quebec City from here. Our hostess was kind, friendly and helpful. We quickly felt like we were staying in the home of a dear friend. Breakfasts were delicious, and it was a pleasure to start our days sharing stories with our hostess and fellow guests before setting out to explore beautiful Quebec City.
- Margaret (10/5): classy old B&B in old Quebec City - This is a beautiful, classy old B&B within the walled city of Quebec. I wanted to be within walking distance of everything in the old city, so the location was perfect. Veronica is a great hostess; her breakfasts were exceptional! If I get a chance, I will definitely stay here again!
- Jennifer (10/5): - A gem in Quebec City & a place that I will return to again. Aude made us feel so at home & at ease.
- Ronald (10/5): - A delightful stay : made all the better by the friendliness of the young German couple who were our hosts . Very ideal location.
- Cynthia (10/5): Perfect QC Bed and Breakfast! - Charming B&B in perfect walk-to-everything location. Owner and all workers were super friendly and helpful about where to go in this quaint city. Immaculately clean with large rooms. 10 out of 10!
- Laura (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful spot. - Truly a wonderful stay. From the friendly accommodating welcome, to the warm comfortable room as well as the delicious breakfasts it was an excellent stay across the board.
The hospitality was superb. Friendly, helpful and very welcoming without ever being intrusive, they worked hard to assure our stay was just right.
It’s nicely located right near the Chateau Frontenac and near the main part of Old Quebec.
We’d recommend it to anyone wanting to feel at home and well taken care of and we hope to return sometime in the future. Thanks so much!
- Marc (10/5): - Beautifull place and lovely owners!
- Paula (10/5): - Bead & Breakfast located in historic Victorian building high up on the hill nearest the citadel. Anais, Veronique & Francis made our stay comfy and enjoyable. Breakfasts were excellent. The staff is ready to please with helpful tips on history of the building, dining, and shopping nearby.
- Carol (10/5): - A lovely Bed and Breakfast in a charming old property. Great hosts, excellent breakfast and convenient location in Old Quebec.
Quiet, clean and comfortable.
We recommend this B&B to others and will come back ourselves.
Thank you!
- Paul (8/5): - Location and cleanliness. Easy parking.
- Michelle (10/5): Best hotel in Quebec - Incredible B&B, the rooms are renovated and beautiful, the bathrooms are modern and huge. The place is amazing, the host is sooo nice and welcoming. Breakfast incredible.
- Samantha (10/5): Comfortable stay in Old town Quebec - This B&B was situated in the perfect location, within walking distance to everything beautiful and touristy.
The host maintains a beautiful old classic style home with many art pieces all around the walls. Excellent start to get you into the touristy aspect of “Old Quebec”
The host and her young son were kind and totally accommodating! It was comforting walking into this B&B, you felt like it was “home”.
- Josh (10/5): - I liked the convenience to the Old Town Quebec, the small amount of rooms, 4, and the historical nature of the building.
My only dislike is the lack of parking, but that is the nature of staying downtown anyhow and the owner still accommodated me with one spot. So, no complaints here!
- Robin (10/5): - Beautiful small b&b. Love the historic character of this classic Quebec structure in the old city. Francis is an excellent host.
- Melissa (10/5): - Beautiful old building within walking distance of old Quebec city
- Tracy (10/5): Beautiful, quirky, full of character! - My friend and I loved this B & B. It was beautiful, quirky and so full of character. It is a few blocks from the Chateau Frontenac on a quieter street. We stayed in the room with 1 king bed and 1 single bed.
We loved the breakfast and the lady that works there (co-owner?) was so lovely. On our last day we had to leave early so she packed us a breakfast to take on the train!
We can not say enough about how lovely this B & B is and highly recommend it as the perfect place to stay while exploring Old Quebec!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Building and style and hostess were all unique.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - .
- Eduardo (10/5): Very comfortable and warm stay - Very good stay, the hosts are incredibly welcoming and really made we feel like we were home. The location is amazing and allows for quickly reaching all points of interest in old quebec. Despite the amazing location, it's located in a quiet street behind the main streets.
- Natalia (10/5): Great B&B n the perfect location - We had a great stay at La Marquise. The place was very nice and cozy and the location was perfect to discover old Quebec by foot.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A perfect stay - Very welcoming and hospitable host. Great location. My room was very clean.
- Melissa (10/5): - Veronique radiates warmth and kindness and welcomes you into her home as if you’ve been lifelong friends. The house is appropriately eclectic and filled with charming artwork. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and the breakfast served in the morning is delicious and oh so thoughtfully prepared. It’s a remarkable thing when you meet someone who is doing exactly what she was meant to be doing. Bravo! We will return ♥️
- Angie (10/5): - Cozy warm bed, clean bathroom, nice decoration, complete breakfast with home beaked patisserie, if you want to read a good book and relax, you can choose from a big library ( there are thousands of books to choose 😜). The service is excellent, very friendly and dog lover!!, space parking in the driveway and walking distance from the plains and old attractions in Quebec city. Very pleasant staying 👍
- Martin (10/5): - We had an upgrade on site. Great location as well !!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel has old history. The boss is kindly.I like this hotel.
- Colin (10/5): - We stayed in the Library room at La Marquise de Bassano for the Winter Carnaval in Quebec City. This room & the B&B were both wonderful. The hosts were helpful and friendly, the breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and the room was warm and had tons of character (you're surrounded by books!). The bed was comfy, there's a desk table or a rocking chair to read in, and there's a tub in the bathroom if a bath is your thing. When you're staying here, you're also only a few minutes walk from the Citadel, the main Carnaval areas, or really anywhere in Old Quebec. We had a 10/10 experience here - - if you're looking for a B&B in Quebec, this one is recommended without exception.
- Susan (10/5): - Location, location, location! Beds were very comfortable and the bedroom itself was very quiet. Veronique aims to please. Breakfast was lovely.
- Shelly (10/5): Home away from home - Very welcoming. Amazing breakfast. Relaxed and open feeling. Perfect place to come back from adventuring!
- Verified traveler (10/5): New favorite B&B - My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights over the US thanksgiving weekend. The B&B is cozy, the bed was very comfortable, and the hospitality was incredible. Francis and his other half were a great host. They made us feel 100% welcome. We brought our mini dachshund along for the trip as well and she was welcomed with open arms. For me that’s always a huge plus because not many hotels are dog friendly. They even helped watch her so my husband and I could enjoy dinner out and we didn’t have to feel bad about leaving her at the B&B. Also, the included breakfast is incredible filled with pastries, fruit, eggs, and so much more. The croissants are to die for. We stayed in the blue room upstairs with the shared bathroom, which was no issue sharing with the other 2 rooms on the same floor. It’s also very quiet so you don’t have to worry about getting a good nights sleep. Location wise it is perfectly located in the Old city district and easily walkable to the main sites. I highly recommend this B&B and will definitely stay again should I ever return to Quebec.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Home away from home - Francis and Miriam are the perfect hosts. They welcomed us like family, and made us feel extremely comfortable. Can't wait to go back.
- Carol (10/5): Great stay - Great friendly hosts, very old lovely house on a quiet street. Shared bathroom worked fine, Big closet and chest of drawers made unpacking for a four night stay a breeze, so we could keep the smallish room neat.
Delicious breakfast and we really enjoyed conversations with our hostess and other guests. Convenient location too..
- Michelle (10/5): - Central and good for walking to everything in Old Quebec and places just outside the wall. The breakfast has a lot of variety including homemade jams and croissants! Staff and owner are friendly and very helpful for booking tours, taxis and making recommendations based on your interests.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely staff, the breakfast was great and the location was perfect!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location in the midst of beautiful old Quebec City. The host/owner, Francis, was gracious and helpful.
- Traveler (10/5): - This is a beautiful home that is located in the old city. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is delicious. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The character of this BnB was quaint and charming—built in 1888. Francis was a terrific host—most accommodating, eager to see that our needs were taken care of. The location in Old Quebec City made it an easy walk to attractions and restaurants. The reason I did not give top marks was because I was expecting more than a Continental breakfast. The home baked croissants were delicious. Fried eggs were served one morning.
- george (8/5): great 30th wedding anniversary trip - A very good experience. Francis was excellent and met all our needs. The breakfasts were excellent and the conversations with other guests often went several hours in the morning. We especially enjoyed the international diversity of the guests. The location was perfect with ready access to restaurants and notable sites. Would absolutely recommend the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the owner’s childhood home. It was adorable and quaint with just the right amount of modern features. Water pressure was great on the third floor though WiFi was a bit shaky unless you sat near the window in an old velvet armchair. Oh the “suffering”. Francis was attentive, helpful and it was nice to meet fellow travelers st the breakfast table. Just a step from the Citadel, this quaint B&B is a repeat visit to be sure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What makes this property special is the friendliness of the owners. They live on sight, since it was a family home, which was nice for when we had questions or just friendly conversation.
This property is definitely not a 5 star modern hotel and has its quirks (the house was built over 100 years ago), but it is a perfect location, gives you the feel of being a local, and is a wonderful value. The breakfasts are bountiful and yummy—homemade croissants and jams every morning plus eggs, another cake, ham and cheese, fruit, yogurt, and the usual staples. We enjoyed meeting other guests from all over the world and having great conversations around the breakfast table. (I especially enjoyed meeting a French couple.) We had plenty of room and had a bathroom en suite. Lighting in the bathroom was good, the main room was not good for putting on makeup unless the curtain was open during the day. There is a table and chair which would be great to use if you have your own lighted mirror. The room has a window air conditioner and the house downstairs was always cool. I wish there was more counter space or a wider wall shelf to put toiletries on. The shower was always a great temperature and had great pressure. We had a good supply of towels and used them two days and then used new ones. Tons of soaps and shampoo in the room. No conditioner, so bring your own if you need it. A hair dryer was provided, but we brought our own.
- CHARLES VICTOR (10/5): Will return and recommend - It was an amazing week. Francis was so welcoming and gave hints where to go. Breakfast is so homey.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property was in a great location. The staff were wonderful- very welcoming, friendly and attentive.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property owners. Lovely people who make you very welcome. I would definitely come again
- Bill (10/5): - The host, Francis, doesn't give you 100%. He gives you 150%. Couldn't be nicer. Best B&B experience ever. And the breakfasts! OMG. What a terrific place. Cannot recommend too highly. And 2 blocks from Frontenac, 3 blocks from rue St. Jean shops and outdoor cafes, 1 block from Plains of Abraham/Citadelle.
- David (10/5): Awesome People - I had to cancel my entire trip last moment because of an injury to my 94 year old mother. I thought that my room would be non-refundable as that is what their policy stated. They only charged me a portion, approximately 30%, I wasn't expecting it and I really appreciate them for doing so. I had done considerable research and was looking forward to staying there, for sure we will next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location and nice breakfast. The hosts were excellent!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful old house from the 1880's. Bright and airy top floor room with balcony. Great, helpful owners and staff. Delicious breakfasts. nothing to complain about!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We absolutely loved everything about La Marquise de Bassano. The location was unbeatable, with a handful of must-see sites less than 10-minutes away by foot. But we just as well made the B&B our home. Francis was an amazing host and provided us with excellent breakfasts and enthusiastic discourse about Old Quebec and his family’s home’s place in one of Canada’s oldest cities. We were very comfortable and had a great deal of privacy, even while using the shared bathroom option. Still can’t believe that we could practically see the Saint Lawrence, the Citadelle/Plains of Abraham AND the peak of the Chateau Frontenac from our doorstep. There is much more to explore. We will be back! Happy belated birthday, Francis! ;)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a great stay. Wonderful location. WiFi connection was not very strong. Did not ask about it so it may be fixable. Very Good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it! - Loved the inn - fantastic breakfast, easy access to historic Quebec City. Can't wait to return!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hospitality, wonderful place, and excellent breakfast
- FloraMills (10/5): - Owner are very hospitable, feel like you’re at home. Breakfast served hot made by host itself. Will be book again once visit quebec-Flora
- Verified traveler (10/5): - So homey and corfortable. Beautiful to return to after a very cold day walking the beautiful streets of Quebec City. Perfectly located and yet quiet. We were lucky to experience the berry bread pudding at breakfast and will request that for every breakfast next time. Can’t wat to return. Our host were very welcoming, knowledgeableand pleasant to visit with. Great choice!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent, friendly staff, and a perfect location!
- Rebeccah (10/5): Welcoming and Wonderful! - This is one of the most wonderful B&Bs that we have ever stayed in! The entire team was so welcoming, kind, and available whenever we needed them. Breakfast each morning was delicious, with an assortment of homemade croissants, yogurt, fruit, cereals, and a hot item (eggs, quiche, etc.). We were staying over the Christmas holiday and things were extra festive: Santa came one night, we shared a Buche de Noel and wine on Christmas eve, and a traditional meat pie graced the table at breakfast on Christmas morning. You're walking distance from all the tourist attractions in Old Quebec and the St-Roch neighborhood with more shops and trendy restaurants is just a 30 minute walk away.
Our room was one of those with a shared bathroom, which was overall fine, though occasionally inconvenient if multiple guests had similar shower schedules! The only recommendation I would have would be to have little cubbies in the bathroom itself. Baskets are provided to lug your toiletries back and forth, but I always seemed to forget something!
Wifi was slightly spotty in parts of our room, but once we figured out where the signal was best we were fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Le meilleur hôtel du vieux québec - The location was perfect, within walking distance to everything within the walls of Vieux Québec and Le Petit Champlain. The host treated us as though we were family coming for a visit, warm, inviting, and gracious. The atmosphere felt like being in a beautiful french provincial home, with personal touches, a warm fire, and great company. We cannot wait to go back, and will only stay here.
- Alison (10/5): - This lovely old home in an ideal location is the perfect place to stay for a Quebec City trip. The rooms are gorgeous & well-kept and a fabulous breakfast awaits every morning. Thank you Anik & Francis for a wonderful introduction to old Quebec.
- Ron&Susan (10/5): - Very good location for walking around old Quebec QC and restaurents, just on the edge between the core and residential section, the 1888 B&B has retained its characyer with some modern insides such as plumbing. Staff/owner are charming and helpful, breakfast very good, all in all a great 4 night 3 day stay - we will come back.
- Gwendolyn (10/5): Great location - We spent two nights here before boarding cruise ship. The location is great-easy to walk to many tourist areas. The breakfast was wonderful and a great way to start the day. The bed was very comfortable in the historic bed and breakfast.
- William (10/5): - Excellent location, the historic building, and updated and comfortable facilities only go so far in describing this B&B, as the warm atmosphere created by the owners, Anik & Frances, make this a wonderful place to stay. Anik makes a wonderful breakfast to start the day, and both could not have been more helpful in any way to make our stay in Quebec City any better.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - The ambiance is truly wonderful. A step into the past with all the modern conveniences. I didn't even notice until later that there was no tv in the room. Francis and Anik are very accommodating and inviting. I will most certainly stay here again when I visit Quebec City.
- Lyne (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Great location and an extremely interesting house. I would recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, clean room, nice staff, good breakfast.
- MK (10/5): - Wonderful, friendly, warm, conveniently located on a quiet street. Delicious breakfast. We will be back.
- Martin (10/5): Great stay in Quebec - Hosts were excellent with our needs and made us feel like we were staying with family! Breakfast is very good, bed was super comfortable and location is superb. Don't hesitate to book with La Maruise de Bassano.
- Steven (10/5): Stay here anytime! - Amazing b&b, over 140 years old, amazing breakfast, even more amazing hosts! It’s over 100 years old and there is a clean shared bathroom but you can’t beat the location
- Sue (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful, charming accommodations, very kind hosts who treated us great! We got in late, parking was a ways off, but Francis was so gracious waiting for us to get back and get settled. The breakfast was awesome - like being at a family or friend's house. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- K (8/5): - This is a perfect boutique hotel in the heart of Old Quebec. Anik is a lovely host and truly cares about each one of her guests. She went out of her way to make sure that I got where I needed to be. The only problem is that there is no wheelchair access and I had to carry my own luggage up two flights of stairs. Internet is also slow in the upper rooms. Apart from that, this was a beautiful place and I will definitely stay here again some day.
- Keith (10/5): Ideal location for walking the old city - Clean and comfortable B & B that is located one street from the Chateau Frontenac and ideal for walking around the old city.
- Kayla (10/5): - Our stay was most definitely worth a rating of 5 stars. The property was close enough to all major attractions that we could easily pop in and out all day and evening without worrying about walking too far or having to take public transit back and forth. Anik served a wonderful full breakfast every morning and offered advice about local events each day. The rooms are clean and quiet. The beds are comfortable and wonderful to settle into after a long day of walking. I would think of staying nowhere else upon returning to Quebec City!
- Jeff (10/5): - We can't say enough good things about La Marquise de Bassano!
First, it is perfectly located in the upper part of the old city, within the city walls. It is no more than a 20 minute walk from most places in the city you'd hope to visit, as well as a bus stop for venturing further to places like Montmorency Falls.
Breakfast each morning is fresh and delicious. While we were there, the morning spread included an omelette, fresh fruit, fresh baked croissants, jams, cereals, yogurt, toast, coffee, tea, orange juice, etc. It's hard to restrain yourself, but the trick is to eat just enough to fuel your walking until lunch time, because you won't want to skip a meal in this fabulous food city. When dinner time comes, ask Francis to recommend a local favorite.
We didn't spend much time in our room, which is almost a shame, since the room was so beautiful and comfortable. We visited in July, when even Quebec City gets hot and humid, but the air conditioning made the room cool while still giving us a nice view out of the window. Our bed was extremely comfortable, and despite being people who do not always sleep well on the road, we slept easily each night and woke up refreshed each morning. The bathrooms (like the rest of the house) were immaculately clean.
It is such a joy to write a review like this. If you're looking for a place to stay while visiting Quebec City, just go ahead and book your room at La Marquise de Bassano! I look forward to staying there again myself!
- Deborah (10/5): A bit of home - Fun place to stay. Breakfast is suberb!! Close to everything and hosts very knowledgeable and helpful.
- Paul&Cheryl (10/5): - Extremely friendly host and hostess. Very accommodating.
- Grace (10/5): Superb B and B - We had an amazing time! Annick and Francis were more than kind and hospitable, and the city was a joy to visit. I am so glad to have stayed here because we were walking distance from so many fun things to do, and breakfast each morning was akin to a European buffet.
- joan (10/5): A cosy place situated at a convenient location - This BnB is situated within old Quebec City, an ideal location, close to everything. The area is safe and very convenient. Our hosts were warm and helpful throughout our stay. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends in future.
- Lisa (10/5): Wonderful hosts, wonderful house. Great stay! - We had a wonderful stay in this lovely 19th century house. The hosts, Francis and Annik, were warm, welcoming, light-hearted and helpful and the atmosphere they create is homey. Just two blocks from the Chateau Frontenac and around the corner from the Governor's Park, the location could not be better. Breakfast was tasty and fresh. I hope to visit again.
- Mary Ellis (10/5): A dream! - Our trip was a dream! As soon as we stepped across the threshold, we were immediately welcomed home (and we felt at home!). The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was beautiful and cozy, and the breakfast was delicious. The B&B is well-located, and it's easy to get to many attractions with a walk down the street. I only wish we could have stayed more than one night!
- Anna (10/5): Amazing stay, amazing hosts! - Such a quaint place to stay. Lovely couple runs it, making us feel welcome from the start. The rooms are charming and comfortable, and in an amazing location. The breakfast spread in the morning was delicious and made with care and attention. Incredible hosts and a lovely experience.
- Tue (10/5): Cozy - Amazing location and Service.
