- peter (2/5): - Booked wrong dates in error, and they never replied to rectify it so I got charged for it. Terrible customer service wont be using this company again
- Taufiq (10/5): - No complaints of note other than the doors were pretty loud when others closed their doors. It could be heard pretty clearly which disturbed some rest
- Tommy (10/5): - Brill
- Claire (10/5): - Amazing for the money
- Tommy (10/5): - Brill
- Sue (2/5): 0 - Check in was awful. She couldn't even open front door for us. Didn't know computer and was unable to give us another key. Was 20 minutes waiting but nothing happened
Think may be new and badly trained.
Bathroom sink wouldn't empty
We were tolf to pull the handle th9likg on nscl of tap which we'd dome tried again but no joy. Nobody came to look at it. Cold used water still in bowl in morning. Not nice and no staff cared.
- Robert (8/5): - Good location for our needs, evening meals were good, loads of choices and reasonably priced. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful
- Amy (10/5): - Lovely room, clean and modern. Easy check in, lovely staff, would stay again.
- Michelle (8/5): - It was very convenient for Haydock Park races, parking available and a 10 to 15 minute leisurely walk.
Staff were friendly and welcoming and managed to have a room ready beforecwe set off for the races.
- Sam (10/5): - This hotel provides the best sleep and the best food as well. So affordable, yet so clean comfortable and convenient to go to Liverpool and Anfield.
- Ruth (10/5): - Clean friendly staff everything I needed with great room service and food
- Jason (6/5): Stay near Wigan - Rooms very good.
Pub was very rowdy.
- Karen (6/5): - Very tatty looking round the outside of pub , room was comfortable and clean , no plug sockets by the bed for phones to charge . Food In restaurant was atrocious.
- Geoff (10/5): - Convenient for races and town centre.
Good value
- Barry (10/5): - Green kings puds are great for a cheap, good quality meal and drink. The fact there is a hotel with nice clean spacious room next door makes it an easy choice. The rooms where clean, with daily house keeping. The only point that could do with improvement was the hall paint work was badly scratched.
- Paul (8/5): - When we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful and were like that for our whole stay.
Room was clean and tidy
A lovely stay!
- Gary (10/5): - Great stay
- Barbara (10/5): - Great staff and very helpful
- Johnny (10/5): - The staff was great and provided lots of assistance with getting transportation to Liverpool.
- Mellony (10/5): Great value and comfort - Hotel has neen refurbished since our last stay. It was tastful snd clean. Bed was very comfortable
- Tina (8/5): - An above average pub hotel. great parking [ van ]. Really nice clean spacious room. good food ,friendly staff. would recommend.
- Mrs Carolyn (6/5): First time of staying in Wigan or should I say jus - We stay at The Bay Horse Hotel in Wigan
We arrived about 15 minutes before you could check-in they were quite friendly but we still can't get in till about 2:30 which by then was over the time that we could've got in it was clean and tidy the only disadvantage is I didn't have any drawers to put your clothes in .
No heated towel rail which was a disappointment we had to ask for some more tea as there was only two in the room I went into the hotel there was a funny smell but once we actually got through another door you couldn't smell it.
Overall the stay with average.
- John (10/5): - All excellent
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Good breakfast. Good location. Good pub. Could do with having a fridge in room. House keeping could have been better.
- David (8/5): - Decent hotel for a quick business stop over.
- Susan (10/5): - Convenient and reasonable
- Brian (8/5): Haydock races - Happy enough with room 2 as was accompanied bye my brother , 2 single beds that were very comfortable
- Sharon (10/5): - Location for racecourse fantastic
- Dale (10/5): Nice stay - Service was good especially with it being busy , food delicious and drinks great value
2 negative points , maintenance man needs to get his paint brush out in the foyer of the rooms and start providing 2 keys , awkward when you cant get in
- Allan (10/5): - Enjoyable food good room good size comfortable
- Alex (10/5): Good friendly stop over - Stop over stay at the Bay Horse Hotel. Easy access from motorway. Good parking. Room was great. Service friendly. We were off early so didn’t sample the breakfast.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great place, staff friendly and menu great. The room is clean and has everything you need. For the price id expect the coffee and tea area to he filled properly as there was no sweetner replaced. The bathroom plug overflow was broken also and hanging off. A bit of attention to detail and this place would be great 😀😀
- Julie (8/5): - One night stay in clean comfortable room with good breakfast
- Wayne (8/5): Stay - Comfortable, clean
- David (8/5): - Nice place to stay and eat
- Andrew (10/5): - Quick and easy check in, very helpful and polite staff. Clean and very large room.
- Michael (8/5): Nice Room - Stayed here a year ago and wasn’t impressed with room but the food was really good. This time it was the opposite. The rooms have been transformed and I was very happy with mine. Food in the pub was average and breakfast was very disappointing, with cold under cooked bacon covered with white ‘scum’ and yesterday’s wrinkly sausage. Should have had the continental option.
- Lawrence (8/5): - Really enjoyed the stay, went for a friend's birthday and could not fault the place. Breakfast was good as was the evening meal.
- Karen kathleen (8/5): - Lovely place and staff i will be booking again
- Mark (10/5): stop over - Business trip that a monthly occurrence, but did note this last one the price was more than the Holiday Inn just down the road with B&B
- James (10/5): Great hotel - Clean tidy hotel lots of parking space friendly staff
- James (10/5): Great value spotlessly clean!! - Staff were very friendly helpful and polite all round. Was familiy stay for a funeral and rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious loads of parking. Cannot fault anything! Many thanks
- Jeanette (10/5): - Excellent value for money. The property has had a refurbishment since our last visit which has further improved our visit.
- Steven (10/5): Newly Refurbished The Bay Horse Is Back - We have stayed here many times over the years. The staff and the breakfast have always been brilliant but in recent times it was getting tired so we stopped coming. A recent refurb has made such a difference. We would happily recommend this place if you want a clean tidy room with a comfortable bed and good breakfast.
- Dianne (10/5): Great stay - Great location, staff and amenities. Would recommend.
- Irene (6/5): - Needs a complete refurbish
- David (6/5): - Bathroom door front looked like it had been head butted (broken) All soap dispensers were empty. Whole room in need of refurbishment. This applies to hallways as well. Breakfast was fine. Would we stay here again NO.
- Nicola (6/5): - Free parking breakfast ok room ok except the net curtains had black mould on them not nice
- Ajay (8/5): - Great location.
Fabulous friendly very helpful courteous and professional staff throughout.
All good except the property required refurbishment.
- STUART (6/5): A weekend in Ashton in Makerfield - Great staff, room was very tired, black mould in bathroom. I had a cooked breakfast the second morning tbh I wish I hadn't water for making tea wasn't hot, sausage was cheap and terrible tasting, grilled tomato looked like it had been sat under heat lights for an age and the mushrooms looked like they had come straight out of the deep fat fryer, I have eaten here in the evenings and found the food always good, maybe the chef/ cook were having a bad day.
- Adrian (8/5): Weekend break to attend a family party - Very efficient check in service , clean and warm room , Plenty of hot water throughout our 2 night stay , plus good internet service which is always a bonus . Breakfast was superb with help your self cereals , yogurts and pastries plus full English and toast . We ate in the pub one night which was good pub grub and reasonably priced .
- Frederick (10/5): Ideal stop for trip to old Trafford - Great staff and great pub
- Ellie (10/5): Where Da Shower - The service was amazing and all the staff are lovely. They even brought me milk with my spicy chicken wings lol. Although I did get confused as there was no shower as there was one in the photos and also it looks nothing like the bathroom in the photos? Other than that it was nice and comfortable
- Lara (10/5): Great Gals weekend away x - Stayed here as a half way point friend meet-up reunion from uni… Was such a fab weekend. I don’t know Wigan very well at all but the hotel seemed to be in a good spot l, we went into the town and it was only a 20minutes bus ride or a short taxi journey!
Good parking car was left secure, pillows are certainly plump and rooms were cosy but spacious!
The lady on reception (short hair also does the breakfast— I’m so sorry I didn’t catch her name, anyway she was so helpful, provided us with great service, and our breakfast was so yummy, certainly recommend the pancakes and the breakfast sandwich !! Even offer a vegan/veggie option..
Thankyou for reading.
- Clive (10/5): Weekend stay - Lovely friendly staff, nice pub and good room.
- Jacky (8/5): Clean, basic and good value for money - Very friendly reception. Great location for the racecourse. Rooms a bit basic and bathroom was in need of some tlc.
Room was very quiet and had a great nights sleep
- David (8/5): Excellent Hotel - We could not fault the hotel at all. The only problem was, nothing to do with the hotel, but noisy guests at 2am. We have noticed this is now a problem with many of the hotels we visit.
- PAUL (10/5): - Good price
- Peter (8/5): - Having stopped here number of times...rooms could do with a refresh
- Heung Wing (8/5): Good hotel with great bar and restaurant - Good to stay!
- Pauline (10/5): A great experience - Excellent reception and very surprised to find a modern style hotel behind the inn. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Big choice menu for evening meal and superb breakfast. All round a great place for overnight stay on the up north.
- Rick (8/5): - Decent apart from £5 a pint
- Fiona (10/5): - Excellent location for haddock races, hotel room basic but clean. Lovely food and drink in the pub.Definitely recommend and use again. Excellent value for money.
Only issue we had was we had one pillow each. We asked for extra pillows but we’re told they didn’t have any as hotel was full so if you like a lot of pillows take some with you or request extra before you go but that didn’t spoil the stay .
- Gordon (10/5): Worth every penny - Superb rooms and excellent staff
- Ian (8/5): Ground floor YES upper floor definitely NO - Have stayed twice in the space of 3 weeks.
The first stay I was upstairs and the wifi was non existent.
The second time I was on the ground floor where the wifi was excellent.
So, if you are a business traveller insist on a ground floor room or give it a miss.
- Nathan (4/5): Won’t be back again. - Terribly slow check in.
Bathroom was in need of a major overhaul.
Very very slow service for food/drinks.
Uncomfortable bed.
- Kelly (6/5): - It was massively busy when we arrived we had to go into the pub to find somebody to check us in after waiting 30mins in the lobby ringing a bell to get somebody I know things do get busy but have to leave a hotel in maned isn’t the best
- martin (10/5): Haydock racing - Friendly staff, Nice food, Good value. Convenient for the races,
- BARRY (10/5): BarryL - As on previous visit. it was excellent.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No problem finding a safe parking space.
Check in was nice and easy and staff member was pleasant.
Room was nice and cool, considering how hot it was outside. Tea/coffee facilities included. Ended up in room 1, which is next to the entrance for the lower floor, so you could the hear other guests come back at night, but was probably to be expected on a race day. Toilet flush needs a bit of attention, but the bathroom was ok.
Breakfast wasn’t the best, so we’d probably skip that next time.
Would stay again, if going to the races.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice - Very nice budget location. Clean and nice staff. Pub on site was good too. Convenient location for the races which is just a short walk away.
- Donald (8/5): - Everything was fine, just TV didnt work( no signal) but everything else was good, comfortable and what we expected
- Steven (4/5): Getting Tired - We have stayed at the Bay Horse many times. Each time a new owner and it is getting tired, and grubby. Its cold and the room heater doesn't work, so they put a plastic fan heater in the room. The lady at check-in was lovely, as were the bar staff. The kitchen could not supply all the menu choices for our group of 5. We will try another hotel next time we visit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff
Nice big bed
Shower was weak
Stopped serving drinks too early I thought we would be served until midnight
- Guest (6/5): - From black mould in the bathroom to broken/flaky window frames and a few things in between. This hotel is in need of a refurb and some TLC.
The shower was broken and dripped randomly, this had been left loose in the bath and not on the shower riser rail, I soon found out why once I put it back.
As things stand this hotel is not value for money in my opinion.
- Irene (4/5): Disappointing experience - We have stayed here before but this time was very disappointing. Breakfast was a disaster no cups, no plates or glasses we had to continually ask for things that should have been available, we waited for the waiter to take our order but eventually had to go to the bar and do it ourselves we then had another long wait eventually when my Poached eggs arrived they were cold we were not the only ones other people were complaining and they cancelled their orders
The bathroom was in need of updating as there was mould around it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Rooms need a refurbishment, bathroom very poor , heating didnt work , stayed here last March and didnt have a problem, would appear ground floor rooms havnt been touched
- VALERIE (10/5): Warm and comfortable - I stayed 2 nights at this friendly hotel. The bed was very comfortable. the duvet and pillows were really good quality. My room was really warm and cosy. The cleaning team were lovely. Will definitely stay there again when I am back in Ashton.
- Hannah (8/5): As expected - It was a nice trip we arrived late so food had stopped serving which was a shame but lovely large bed in room and was comfortable so perfect for what we needed
- Neil (8/5): A little tired looking but adequate - The hotel looks a little tired but is clean and comfortable with ample free on site parking. The staff are extremely polite and helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The whole property looked ready for refurbishing. Our room had a crack running through the depth of the sink and the light fitting flashed on and off in the bathroom. The crack could harbour germs and the light could seriously affect someone suffering with epilepsy. When we told reception we were told they new of the problems. So why were we given that room? The pub part of the place was OK. The bar staff very pleasant but the breakfast service was very slow. We waited nearly an hour from ordering to getting por poached eggs on toast. Good job we had no appointments to keep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Not too big or clinical.
Good pub attached.
Excellent breakfast, freshly and well cooked, relaxed environment, large screen with news playing.
Only complaint is the condition of the television. Also bathroom is probably approaching the time for a redecoration, but I'm just nitpicking really.
For the price, this hotel is absolutely fantastic.
- raymond (8/5): - a very pleasant stay but had to wait for reception to be manned .glad to get a breakfast thrown in for free serving staff was very polite and helpful
- David (4/5): Pub side is great ! - Service was ok, place is outdated but ok for the price. Really needs to decide what type of hotel it is - blue collar worker stop off - Friday night hook up rooms or travel lodge. Beds were totally uncomfortable and unacceptable in my mind. Rooms are tidy, clean but very basic. The attached pub is very nice with decent food and beer selection.
- Robert (6/5): Great staff but the hotel is a little tired - I found the staff excellent, helpful and polite. There were a number of areas though where improvements could be made. A major problem was the noisy radiator in our room which made a clanking noise at irregular intervals during our two night stay. It was loud enough to wake us up at times. The tv also did not work in the morning on both days of our stay although it seemed to work ok later in the evening. My friends in other rooms also experienced the same problem with the TVs in their rooms. On the positive side the beds were very comfortable and the staff were very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property clean, quiet and very Comfy bed , tea/ coffee and hairdryer , good location for local pubs , staff helpful
- Patricia (10/5): - Helpful & friendly
- Allen (10/5): Excellent place to stay and Very good location. - Excellent place to stay, excellent location, friendly atmosphere, very good food and service.
- Keith (10/5): - Would recommend
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Friendly staff.
Comfortable bed.
Poor shower, ha4dly any presure
- Allen (6/5): - Nice warm room.
Reported that radiator was falling off the wall.
Reported that bed light not working.
Nothing done for repairs.
- Philip (8/5): Feeling at home. - I arrived on Sunday and found the duty manager so helpful and such a smiley face. Nothing was a bother. She shone like a star in my mind. I have stayed with you at that very place and have had little need for complaint. When I come south from scotland I always stay with you for at least 1 night and intend to keep doing so.The accommodation is showing its age and may need some money spent on it.
Regards
Philip
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The fact it was a pub as well as a hotel is quite unique in it self and free WiFi plus a large car park.
- Mark (6/5): Flooding - Went to check into hotel and was advised that due to a water leak and flooding I was unable to stay there so they sourced another hotel for me
- Annette (8/5): Stay here! - Lovely welcome on arrival, room spacious and practical. Definitely the comfiest bed I’ve slept in!!
- Michael (10/5): - Very good for money nice and comfy and good drinks st the bar
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay for Haydock Park - Friendly staff ,good value, decent breakfast
- Hugh John (8/5): - Stayed here a lot over the past ten years. Always a warm welcome . Rooms a little tired now but still value for money . Ideal location for visiting my mum in the old folks home and catching up with other family members
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room a bit cold could not get the heating to work in the room must be on a timer, but all in all good stay
