Guest Reviews
- Fiona (8/5): - Decent sized bed
- Nick (10/5): Very good value for money overnight stop. - Really good location (overnight stop off the a1). Good breakfast.
- John (8/5): Last minute booking so wasn’t sure what to expect but on arrival the lady behind the desk was absolutely lovely!, incred -

- Brenda (7/5): Accommodation OK well priced, staff excellent. - This is a budget hotel competitively priced so we didn't expect a high standard but the staff were definitely not to a budget standard, they were very welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to assist with our elderly friends. So 5 stars for them well done! Our room was good unfortunately our elderly friends, in their 90`s, had a shower over the bath which did not have temperature control and they couldn`t use it.
- Holly (7/5): Water to hot - The staff
The bed It wasn't my first time staying here and for the second time the water for the bath / shower was boiling hot I turned the controls in all directions to get it to cold but it did work. I had already put soap on so couldn't go to reception to ask for help it had happened in a different room at the hotel I ran the bath and used one of the cups supplied to transfer cold water in to it from the sink .
- Callum (6/5): Cheap and cheerful. - Value for money. Issue with the toilet. Didn’t flush.
- Callum (4/5): Almost cheap and cheerful. - Very friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean bedding and towels. Plenty of parking. Perfectly located and exactly what we needed. The building has character. Although some parts of this hotel could be described as "cheap and cheerful," it is absolutely unacceptable that a hotel such as this has the audacity to require a minimum booking of two nights. Mould all over the bathroom ceiling and bathroom window. Small washing area squeezed in next to the shower. Broken shower that spat water everywhere else except where it was meant to. Only one pillow each. Very poor lighting. Faulty bedside plug which made a sound when I attempted to charge my phone. Despite booking for two guests, the room was only set up for one and we had to ask for an extra towel, cup, and glass. The walls are very thin and we could clearly hear other guests speaking and showering. Massive gap at the bottom of the door letting light in from the hallway. In short, this is just a tired hotel that needs a lot of upgrading - should have been able to stay for just one night.
- Lorraine (9/5): Great 😃 - style of room, location for Emmerdale tour, pub, staff and Breakfast was amazing room was a little dusty
- Lorna (8/5): -
- Tudway (5/5): okay - Food was poor, limited vegetarian choice and did not taste good. You need a wider range of vegetarian options and check the quality of what is served.
- Ian (7/5): No propper draft bitter in a Grean King Pub ! - Price Near Motorway noise
- daniel (7/5): Not bad - Room was decent Food and prices
- vivpyner (8/5): - Easy to find, plenty of parking, friendly staff. Someone in the room above kept walking around for a long time after 6am.
- Mark (7/5): Staff at the Darrington are welcoming and couldn’t do enough for our party when asked… - Hotel room was clean and tidy. Some areas are slightly dated.
- Donna (7/5): Definitely recommend - Check in was quick & very friendly. Room was decent size. Breakfast was delicious & lots to chose from. Bed was hard as rock.
- Jayne (10/5): Perfect for overnight stay -
- Sean (9/5): A very pleasant stay. - Value for money. The room was comfortable, dinner and breakfast were both good quality and reasonably priced. Sky sports on several televisions in the bar area was a bonus. The only issue is that the property was a little tired in places. The challenge, however, is balancing constant redecorating with keeping prices reasonable.
- Karen (7/5): - Beds were comfortable,Breakfast was good, and the staff helpful and friendly.
The location was excellent .
- Thurston (5/5): - Staff are helpful friendly and approachable Noisy customers
- Holly (9/5): -
- Alasdair (8/5): - Friendly and helpful.staff Bed a bit small.and soft
- Holly (10/5): Good room for £50 welcoming staff and good location - The woman on the desk was very friendly and helpful a credit to your company
Good location
Plenty of free parking I was in room 21 there was staining in thr toilet also the flush being on the right hand side right next to the wall makes it difficult some times very to use it.
The door stop being in the middle of the floor is a strange decision as it can be painful
The WiFi kept disconnecting
- Cielen (5/5): -
- Yazzoomum (9/5): - The bed was very comfortable and a great size.
The lady at reception was very nice Staff chatting below our window very early morning
- James (9/5): Friendly staff - More than expected Location
- Monica (4/5): -
- Lara (4/5): - Friendly staff member but he was managing bar and hotel so we had a long wait to be checked in. Only half a toilet roll in the room and only one cup
- Sadie (10/5): -
- Laurence (5/5): It was ok but I would look for something else if I was in the area again. - Location was ok the restaurant was in the same place. Poor choice of beer if you don’t drink lager. No atmosphere.
- Charlotte (10/5): Great place to lay your head - Great location easy parking good food value for money
- Cowgill (6/5): Well done staff team. - Courteous friendly staff.
A warm comfy bed. Very cramped basin area in the bathroom. Stained / worn shower cubicle tray.
Only 1 bedside lamp.
A rather drab room.
The storage cupboard or room close to room 29 meant there was disturbance when staff came for clean linen.
Tired decor and furnishings in all the ares we saw.
- Paul (7/5): -
- Karen (10/5): - Excellent facilities, food and staff Can't fault it
- Tarra (2/5): Staff helpful and polite, sleeping was limited - The bed was very hard/ uncomfortable The bed
- Katie (9/5): -
- Sandra (3/5): The whole place looks ready for a refurbish or good clean - The staff were friendly and helpful When we went to our room, the door was kept open with a pile of dirty sheets and wet towels. I presume from the previous customers. The toilet took ages to fill with water to flush. There was nowhere go put toiletries in the bathroom. The shower bottom was stained so it appeared dirty. The board below the shower was rotten. Between the shower and sink was dirty
- Kim (9/5): Thanks for your friendly helpful service - Staff were extremely friendly and keen to help
I had not mentioned storage of bike at time of booking
Was impressed by how helpful staff were to resolve the matter
- Mark (9/5): Eellent hotel with everything you need for an overnight stay - Excellent little hotel ideally placed by the A1 but with no noise getting in to the room. Lovely staff and a good solid breakfast in the morning. And an unbeatable price.

- Ioan (4/5): -
- julie (8/5): - It was very easy to get into town and also only 10 minutes from where we were visiting. Handy having restaurant on site and good breakfast. Bed was a bit lumpy and the water in the bathroom sink was far too hot and scalded your hands .
- Megan (1/5): -
- Terence (7/5): Good value. - Friendly staff. Convenient location. Toilet flush faulty. Over mirror light not working. Main room light too dim. TV remote would not turn it on or off. Room 1.
- Glyn (10/5): Brilliant people - Excellent staff

- Glyn (5/5): - Handy location. Good value for money, decent breakfast. Clean Reception staff too casual. I don't like being called mate by a lad 40 yrs younger than me. Polite professionalism please. Breakfast staff were friendly without being over familiar.
- Colin (10/5): - Very friendly staff
- Jane (10/5): -
- Chris (9/5): -

- Guest (7/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): I will be staying again - Everything Nothing
- Sophy (9/5): Warm large room and lovely friendly staff - Amazing place to stay. The staff are lovely, the pub is right next to where the accommodation is with a door through so you don't have to go outside and the rooms are large, clean and comfortable and amazing value
- Peter (8/5): A welcoming and good value budget hotel. - A cheerful and helpful welcome at reception.
For a budget hotel it has much going for it and is better than other such hotel I’ve stayed in.
The room was adequate and better equipped than expected.
Breakfast was freshly cooked to a high standard. The waitress was exceptionally cheerful and absolutely on top of her job. She seemed to be in control of everything. Like all the staff she was so friendly and helpful which made our stay.
Also there is free on site parking. All in all very good value for money. The en suite shower room could do with some form of heating. It was a chilly shower.
- Tyla (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff, nice and quiet room, clean and tidy room
- Guest (9/5): -
- Kamil (10/5): -
- Moyra (10/5): - Very welcoming staff lovely clean spacious room massive bed .
- Guest (7/5): -
- Penny (9/5): Great - as usual! - Comfortable bed The small bathroom
- Cameron (10/5): -
- Matt (1/5): As a trucker I would rather sleep in my cab and s**t in a bush in a layby than stay there - Bed was huge (2 singles pushed together).
Meal was cheap.
Drinks reasonable price.
Most staff ok except one.
Locals very welcoming Extremely annoyed that the Sky went off for the rugby league (claimed Sky outage) and I had waited 12 years for my team to be back in Super League and they were aware of the special occasion.
One extremely snotty woman in a red shirt informed us "Nothing we can do" yet a few minutes after the rugby they has Sky showing live football with no issues, My girlfriend considered her highly rude and offensive considering the rest of the staff were acutely aware of my passion for said match, she had no intention of being helpful.
When in a quiet room alone I had radio commentary on my phone (no disturbance to others) said woman glared at me. Why? Locals were asking me the score but I was treated like dirt for compensating for her lack of TV coverage and others wanted to hear the score live.
That is abosultely disgusting as the rest of the staff (and the website) had promised said match live all day. Totally spoiled the night.
Sunday morning no hot water in the shower, fixed when we returned at 5pm but not good when we like a morning shower.
No offers of goodwill (Village Hotels are good if you have an issue which we have only had once).
- Lisa (10/5): - Early check in on request staff really helpful. Nothing
- Alanna (2/5): Very disappointing. - Location The bed was terrible, we both didn’t get much sleep as the springs were coming through the mattress. The shower/bath was poor. We paid for a cooked breakfast but didn’t eat much of it as the food was covered in old grease.
- Sarah (10/5): Comfortable, convenient and welcoming — the perfect pre-race stay just off the A1! - Great stay ahead of Sheffield Half Marathon. We booked this hotel to break up the journey and it was ideally located just off the A1, making race morning much easier. On arrival, a member of staff noticed we looked a little lost in the restaurant and kindly guided us through to reception, which was really appreciated.
The room was excellent - a huge, comfortable bed with plump pillows and crisp white bedding, exactly what you want before race day. The bathroom was spotless, with an incredible rainfall shower that felt like a real treat.
We had an early start so didn’t stay for breakfast, but the in-room kettle with tea, coffee and sugar meant I could prepare my porridge before we left. The room also included menus for the restaurant downstairs, and ordering via the app was simple - we even received a free prize for our first visit, which was a lovely bonus.
Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend it. I’d happily book again for next year’s race.
- travel bug (8/5): Great value fir what we paid nice food good value drinks also will priced full English in the mor -
- mick (10/5): Great value - Bed very comfortable .
Good price that included breakfast .
Location was 5 mins away from where we were visiting .
- Christopher (10/5): - Everything was clean and tidy the bed was comfy its was what you would expect in a hotel
- Kevin (3/5): Decent room ruined by terribly bathroom ceiling.. - Decent room. Good TV. Quiet. Good staff Bathroom ceiling mouldy. Extractor fan disgusting. See pictures.
- Vicki (1/5): Horrible - Nothing This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was so dirty, mould all the the bathroom, I couldn’t even get a shower due to how dirty it was. The room was freezing and the heating obviously didn’t work. It was utterly disgusting

- Mark (7/5): Simple, basic, clean accommodation. - Handy location for my needs. Friendly and efficient staff. Good breakfast Room facilities very basic and outdated, though reflected in the reasonable price to be fair. Comfortable bed.
- Liz (7/5): - Good location, friendly staff, nice breakfast, clean fresh bedding. Very tired, needs redecorating throughout, could be cleaner (grubby walls, corners not hoovered etc)
- Darren (9/5): enjoyed a comfortable stay with easy access to main roads and great food and friendly staff - Quiet and good size rooms, excellent food and service, fantatsic choice on the menu and very good value Damp mold on bathroom may need better ventilation or extraction
- Liz (7/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful Good value, however we thought the whole place could do with a proper clean!
- Sandy (10/5): Great stay in handy location close to A1(M) - Comfy beds, friendly, helpful staff Shower cubicle was very small
- Mike (9/5): -
- luey (8/5): Would stay again - 0 Noise, comfy bed - Bed was comfortable, staff were very friendly! Thanks Molly, such a cheery welcome!
Location was great, 0 noise from the roads, pub noise was non existent. Great stay. Nothing! It was all good
- John (5/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Samantha (9/5): Excellent location - Really great bedrooms, location was very good for us and the pub sold lovely food and excellent, friendly staff. Shower room was a bit below par, nice decor but the mould on the sealant in the shower let it down... easily fixed though and everything else was perfect. Although more coffee sachets please.
- john (10/5): -
