Guest Reviews
- Joseph (9/5): Beautiful and unique place to stay. - Beautiful and unique room in the tower of a castle. Lovely common areas and pool. Only reason to give a 9 is that the fire alarm rang 3 times the first night. Owner tried to fix it but it rang 6 times the following night... Naturally this disturbed our sleep a lot.
- Cierra (10/5): My mom & I had a short but very nice stay. Will definitely be back! - Gorgeous property with amazing owners! Very clean & refreshing pool, comfy beds, & really unique property! Everything was great!
- Mana (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): A very warm welcome awaits in the special quirky Castle. - The property was truly magical, a paradise within a paradise . It was like a fairytale Castle with lovely natural decor and relaxing space. The swimming pool was so lovely to cool off. The hospitality was wonderful from help with trips to airport transport arrangement. A tasty breakfast was great to start the day. There were eateries near by and a lovely walk into the main town for the rest. If too tired on the way back taxis were very affordable……A special place where the love of the owners is openly shared with their gusts. No complaints
- Peter (9/5): - Top Lage...mit Pool...sehr nett die beiden 😁
- Debbie (10/5): - Lovely tower room - very unusual and absolutely lovely host.
- Anne (8/5): Aangenaam verblijf - Prachtig gemaakt verblijf. Helaas een beetje weg van het centrum, hetgeen bij slecht weer wat ongemakkelijk is. Het ontbijt was goed, maar zeker niet uitgebreid of veelzijdig.
- Dirkje (9/5): Voortreffelijk - Mooi hotel, netjes, vriendelijk. Alles was top.
- Wendy (10/5): -
- Laury (9/5): Prachtig hotel -
- Colin (8/5): -
- Lena (10/5): - Besondere Unterkunft am Rande des Nationalparks. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich. Alles super!
- Kevin (10/5): Amazing hosts, wonderful place to stay to relax and enjoy all the local attractions. - I gay an amazing place to stay out. We loved meeting the owners, Janna snd Roberto, they made us feel at home from the word go. Really helpful to have conversations with them in advance of our stay as they were able to help us with an itinerary. Fortaleza is such a lovely place with so many lovely touches in its design and use. Rooms were very comfortable and there are plenty of places to relax within its grounds and have a swim in the pool if you like. Nothing
- Charlie (10/5): Relaxing stay - Such a cute hotel that has been built like a mini fort. The bed was comfy and the shower was hot. But the best part was the hostess, Gianna. She was so lovely. I had a cold when I arrived and she made me lemon and honey in the morning. She also offered me some soup in the evening but I was so crashed out I missed the offer. And also the hotel is in such a quiet spot - I slept like a baby in the evenings. Nada
- Ralph (10/5): Lovely - Beautiful and super helpful owners none
- David (9/5): - Beautiful setting, lovely host and great place to relax and chill in the pool or hammocks away from the noise of town! The bed wasn't the most comfortable I've slept in.
- Guest (10/5): A wonderful home base for a visit to Santa Cruz - Beautiful grounds, unique and charming tower suite with 2 patios and a view, peaceful pool area, good breakfast, friendly staff, walkable to town and port yet far enough away to be peaceful and a little secluded as it is next to the national park. Just the right vibe to come home to after adventure touring. No complaints!
- Vanessa (10/5): Amazing hosts, great location & unique charming place to stay. - Very cute b&b, each room has its own unique charm. Close to downtown but just far enough to be in quiet location. I can’t say enough good things about the host. The hospitality is outstanding. I felt very welcomed and cared for. I was feeling unwell and she went above and beyond to make sure I was ok and offer help. It is so appreciated and I will recommend to anyone who visits Galapagos Santa Cruz 🙏🏻
- Zack Zbar (10/5): Perfect place to stay in Galapagos - Had a great stay at la fortaleza. It was clean and comfortable, with nice common areas to relax. Perfect location - on the edge of the park so it's very quiet and peaceful, but only a 5-10 minute walk from the main part of town. Breakfast each day was nice. And the owners were very helpful and welcoming.
- glendon (9/5): - The character of the hosts and the character of the hotel. The primary hostess, Gianna, was born for this role. A people person by nature, her fun-loving spirit, social curiosity, and caregiving nature, will make you feel welcomed, supported, and appreciated. She goes beyond the call. The building itself is teaming with novelty, bells, and whistles. You'll want to explore every nook and cranny of this historic building. A refreshing change from the humdrum of chain hotels. The facilities were reliable. I especially appreciated the user friendly shower, and its well regulated pressure and temperature. A rarity at most hotels these days. The location is underrated. It is like a five minute walk from the main drag, and a twenty minute walk from the furthest point of the main drag. Its comparatively secluded location adds to the feeling of retreat. The check-out time was unexpectedly early (10 AM).
- Barrows (10/5): Incredibly kind and welcoming folks. - Very unique and welcoming.
- Joanna (10/5): - Fantastic hotel and owner which give to us good tips, beautiful room and very clean 👌
I recommend this hotel with all my heart ❤️
- Amber (10/5): -
- Wilson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jia (9/5): Superb -
- Stephanie (9/5): Lovely area and hospitality! Beautiful castle like with a picturesque outdoors area for relaxing. - The hosts were amazing! Full of knowledge and help/support with suggestions of activities and excursions to do. They also helped us navigate traveling between the islands which we wouldn’t normally have known without further research. The only drawback was it wasn’t located directly in town but just a short distance so not a big deal; walking around was easy to get to each destination.
- Marisa (9/5): Superb -
- Mags (10/5): Great value for money and not your average hotel stay. - Quirky property, just out of town, 7 minute walk, close to Darwin Station for a walk.
Loved my stay, my room over looked the National Park and was very tranquil on the terraces.
Pool was lovely. Breakfast was freshly made to order and plentiful.
- Mary (10/5): You can tell La Fortaleza De Haro is operated with love and care - I loved the pool, unique architecture, and outstanding service
- Miranda (10/5): Exceptional - Located in a quiet area, the place is very beautiful and cozy. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The place was clean. A bit of a distance from the downtown.
- Martin (10/5): Amazing hotel, can recommend to anyone - Loved the view and the concept of the hotel. Our room had two balconies, which were great to have. The hotel is next to the forrest, so we had an amazing view and fewer neighbors than one may expect. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and we loved the pool. The main drawback was that breakfast starts at 7:30, while most day trips start earlier than this, such that we were only able to enjoy it one day.
- Irene (7/5): Overall fine, but would not stay again - The hotel looks nice and the pool is great. The owner Gianna helps out when needed, even after we had already left and forgot something. The breakfast was good but limited. The room was very small for 2 persons. There was no other option than to put the suitcases on the floor, but then it became difficult to navigate to the bathroom. The beds were really hard and the pillows thin and also hard. There were mosquitos and ants in the room that Gianna exterminated the next day. The hotel's location was not optimal outside of the city centre. Overall it was fine, but we would not stay here again.
- Mathew (10/5): Exceptional - Service was amazing from the hosts.
Great landscaping, communal areas.
Pool and bar area. Nice air con and the hosts went above and beyond
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - This unique location — a fortress — offered superb accommodation for my tour group. The Tower room offered excellent opportunities for morning birdwatching; all rooms were clean; staff were very friendly and helpful with offers of maps, local sights, and opportunity for local activity bookings; breakfast was served fresh and promptly each morning; and the location is in a quieter and secure neighbourhood (El Eden). This was by far the favourite accommodation among tour guests compared with two other similarly priced locations in Galapagos (Santa Cruz and Isabela). I cannot say enough good things about La Fortaleza and look forward to returning with more guests in the future. A big thanks to hosts Gianna and Roberto!
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place to stay and we were made to feel incredibly welcome by our great hosts who were really helpful with great information about the island and tours etc!! An easy 5 minute stroll on to the main street and an abundance of great choices to eat, drink and arrange tours.
Room was spotlessly clean and the facilities and ambience were superb. How often do you get to stay in a castle on the Galapagos!? Highly recommended!!
- Viktoria (9/5): Superb - Huge shower, very comfortable. Tasty breakfast. Nice chill out area!
- Abby (10/5): Incredible and soul filling. - Unique, amazing craftsmanship. What wasn’t to like?!
- Kelly (10/5): We loved it! - La Fortaleza is a very interesting and unique property. You can tell the owners put a lot of care and thought into building the property, it is not a “cookie cutter” hotel. We stayed in the Tower Suite and it was perfect for us. There was a very nice outdoor area with the suite as well. The air conditioner worked well which we really appreciated as it got hot during the day while we were there. The WiFi worked very well throughout our stay. Gianna, the host, was very warm and friendly and very helpful in setting up some fantastic tours for us. There is a nice pool on the property although we did not take advantage of it. The property is located in a very peaceful and quiet section of town. No complaints!
- Bryony (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful views, and a nice pool. Very easy walk to the town centre. The owners are very friendly and sorted out tours and taxis for us.
- Oksana (10/5): Lovely stay , close to all , unique rooms - Property its self very unique, every one know Castle shape building, close to the beach and Charles Darwin Foundation, very easy and quick to rich most popular places in the city , restaurants, shops, souvenirs stores. Extremely friendly knowledgeable owner , always ready to help with any questions and also can help with organizing your plans, how to mostly effectively spend your time on beautiful Galápagos Islands . So good tasty breakfast and very clean rooms .
I am very happy with my choice, that was truly lovely time to stay my entire vocation in this amazing place , I called “my house” , so nice and warm , comfortable and so easy to been there like home .
- Leonie (10/5): Like staying with family in top notch facilities. Owners very helpful with tours and local attractio - Very friendly welcoming owners, big rooms interesting staying in a castle. Great pool.
- Raymond (10/5): Fortelaza de Haro makes for the perfect vacation. - Gianna is a spectacular host. This was our second visit
and we hope to visit again in the future. Everything was amazing from the accommodations to the pool and our morning breakfast. Gianna and her staff are welcoming and gracious. Thank you for making our Galapagos adventure so special! Nothing! It’s perfect.
- Sekar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ctirad (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly stuff, original architecture Nothing
- Leanne (10/5): Wonderful! - We loved this place - so different and so wonderful! Large, comfortable rooms. Hot shower. The pool was a great place to cool off at the end of the day! Great location - only five minutes from the centre of town. Gianna and Roberto couldn’t have been better hosts - they make you feel like part of the family. Nothing!
- Nikolett (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts treated me like a family member, they were extremely helpful, I can only recommend them!
- Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place, clean, quiet, jacuzzi is there ;) Gianna & Roberto were super helpful!
- Thomas (10/5): Galapagos = Fortaleza de Haro - Thank you Gianna & Roberto for your hospitality and flexibility. It was a very comfortable stay!
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was good but very slow. Owner called for taxi for final day for ride to airport. Didn't get breakfast the final day as taxi to take us to the airport arrived. Bed is uncomfortable. Bathroom smells. Mildew smell in room. Hairdryer works on low setting only, barely working.
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good, pool is beautiful although a bit cold for October. Breakfast was good. Breakfast service is very slow. If you have a dive planned at 8, you probably aren't eating even though breakfast starts at 0730. Payment is only done by Zelle or PayPal. Hot tub is a joke. You have to let them know 4 hours prior and still wasn't hot. Owner didn't do on the first day I requested. Bathroom smells, lots of humidity in the bathroom. Bed is very hard, linens are pilled. .
- Justin (7/5): Amazing structure, pool, games, hot tub (that takes 4 hours to heat to luke warm), service wasnt up to snuff. - The structure and room. Roberto has spent 25 years building something incredible. All the structure was there but the customer service was not. When you go to the Galapagos expect to leave early for tours, this hotel was one of few that didnt provide early breakfast and when we asked for anything it felt like they were doing us some grand favor. The husband really tried but the communications from the wife were quite abrupt and rude. Whether it was breakfast or ordering a cab, if you stay here expect to take care of yourself. That said the building and rooms are incredible, the wife Gianna could just use a lesson in hospitality.
- Mark (10/5): Great building, fantastic hosts! - Fantastic property, wonderful hosts, couldn’t have had a better stay! Nothing - everything was fantastic!
- Vivien (8/5): Very good -
- Verena (8/5): Nice hotel with friendly owners - The owners were very friendly and helped with good tips for tours. The room was big with two terraces. They also had a communal area with hammocks, billard and other games. The wifi in the room was quite weak. It was enough for whatsapp messages but too weak to stream the news online.
- Shayneo (10/5): Quirky, fun and comfortable - This is a lovely place. The owners are welcoming and very informative. The hotel is quirky and fun, and the pool is very nice. The breakfasts are great. It's slightly out of town, but it's a short walk and the bonus is that it's in a quiet neighborhood with lots of good food options. Highly recommended.
- Nimal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): A wonderful place to stay! - We stayed for a wonderful 8 nights. The breakfast each morning included different fresh fruits each day, juices, eggs, freshly baked bread, coffee etc We stayed in the Tower room which was very comfortable, plenty of space with 2 outside terraces to enjoy. A hammock on one and umbrella and table with chairs on the other. We spent most evenings outside enjoying the sounds of the birds from the natural bush which was next door. Town was only a very short enjoyable walk away with many choices for dining….. we tried a different restaurant each evening. Tours and transport could be booked at the hotel … very well organised and with a safe local driver. The pool was welcome after a day out walking and exploring. A very enjoyable and relaxing stay!
- John (7/5): Good - Quaint lodging in a quiet location. Beautiful pool and very private. Internet was hopeless. Kept dropping and was patchy. Plumbing needs attention, water pressure is too low. Breakfast was pedestrian. Expensive for what it is.
- Haley (10/5): a castle next to the forest is a perfect place to stay in Santa Cruz. - This hotel is really beautiful. Comfortable beds, lot of communal space, including a dining room. The host was extremely helpful. I would stay again if I return to Santa Cruz.
- Nikita (9/5): Superb -
- Estefani (8/5): Very good -
- Richards (10/5): Peaceful, tranquil, with lovely ownership. - The location is slightly off the beaten path, which is good; it's quiet. However, it's a short walk down to the main tourist street with restaurants and shops. I absolutely loved the architecture; the owners have done an amazing job with the stonework; it does really feel like a castle. The pool in the courtyard is very peaceful and enjoyable. The breakfasts were very basic. Choice of eggs, some fruit, beverage of choice.
- Denise (10/5): A quiet little sanctuary located near the more artsy end of Peurto Ayora. You can hear the birds singing while resting i - Attention to details. Roberto keeps a very clean and wonderful place full of great touches.
- Jacob (10/5): Exceptional - THe location was nice and the hotel was interestingly designed Wifi in the rooms was not reliable
- Scott (10/5): Great place to stay and even better hosts! - We had a wonderful stay! Gianna so good to us! She gave us great advice and helped us book activities. Felt like home away from home! N/A
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful structure. Super nice and helpful owners. Nada.
- Deborah (9/5): A wonderful stay in a quirky fort with a fabulous hostess. - Fabulous hostess Gianna. Quirky Fort building. Lovely deep swimming pool. Delicious breakfast. Nothing not to like !
- Vicki (10/5): Stay in a castle and get treated like a queen - Everything about this place exceeded my expectations. The host is attentive and helpful and very friendly. The hotel is clean. The breakfast is very good and there are other things there like hammock and books and a Jacuzzi, etc.. I truly cannot think of anything that I did not like
- Keith (10/5): The staff was competent, the breakfast was excellent, and the host! What a wonderful couple. They were very kind and hel - Wow, what a place! It’s like a little castle, but way more comfortable. The pool was clean, warm, chlorine free, and a great way to relax after a day of exploring the islands. Hammocks and patio were great resources. We were so tired everyday, we never did get to try the hot tub but it was nice that they had one. We totally underestimated how much time we should spend in the Galapagos, at least 5 days would have been smarter. I expect I’ll be back! Nothing, it was great.
- Joseph (10/5): Quiet, unique, comfortable stay! - La Fortaleza is an awesome stay for when you're in Puerto Ayora. Gianna was so welcoming and showed us all the top spots to see! Breakfast was awesome and the hotel itself is the most unique I've ever seen. No complaints!
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was absolutely perfect!
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Silke (10/5): Exceptional - Super cute, small hotel with awesome rooms. The owner was extremely friendly and spoke good English. We booked a tower room and were impressed on the level of detail the rooms were designed. A little bit outside from the habour road but still easily walking distance. Definitely worth a stay.
- Inna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Callum (1/5): Awful host - The property is well located and quiet, although still a long walk from the main pier. The pool area is nice although the deck chairs and the terrace area are quite run down. I had an awful experience with the host of this place who has provided the worst customer service I have ever had in over 20 years of travelling.
We had a problem with the WiFi which I mentioned to the nice girl who worked there, we mentioned it everyday and despite her resetting the router etc. it never improved. I know the WiFi can be bad on the islands but we had a good experience with it in another hotel for 6 days and also it was ok for periods of time but only if you sat in certain locations (one of which was the shower). On the last day it was so bad I lost a couple of hours work and eventually messaged the host via WhatsApp to explain the situation and ask for some compensation. Her response was beyond unprofessional, it was rude and unnecessary. She said she’d have to charge the employee that worked there for not letting her know and then proceeded to be rude.
Purely because of her behaviour I wouldn’t recommend supporting this accommodation with your custom.
The beds weren’t particularly comfortable either but that could have been forgiven.
- Darlene (7/5): Good - Close to the town Room too small
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - A real refuge in Santa Cruz, with a very attentive and helpful owner. You can also book a boat trip with him which was also very enjoyable. Nothing really
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional - A very beautiful place! Super nice and very friendly and helpful staff! Definately a home away from home!
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional - The location was right next to a nature preserve, so it was peacfully quiet with only the waves of the ocean and birds making noise. The hotel was gorgeous and rustic. The owners were exceptionally friendly, and truly cared for the wellbeing of their guests like family. La Fortaleza de Haro is the epitome of what hotels should be on a holiday get away. Not applicable. Loved everything about the place.
- Binali (10/5): Fantastic Castle/Fort accomodation - Everything. Beautiful property with a welcoming host (Gianna) who takes care of everything you need. Friendly atmosphere between all the guests, great breakfast and very safe environment. I should have stayed longer.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cameron (7/5): Good -
- Jack (8/5): Very good -
- Qing (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (1/5): Bad - the property is nice although far from the port so it is a hassle to get to the port early in the morning for trips. breakfast is ok. I really wish I didn't stay here. Gianna made my stay extremely uncomfortable and stressful. Honestly her rudeness (which she tries to hide behind a fake smile) and crossing personal boundaries is astonishing. After I accidently boke a glass in my room on my 1st night I was then patrolled as if I was naughty kid staying at some harsh auntie house. I was blamed for apparently destroying some old plug from a hairdryer that I didn't use. She knew about it for days and only blamed me for it when I pointed out it's broken when I wanted to use it for the 1st time. And then she started to send passive aggressive WhatsApp's to me. She went beyond my imagination when she messaged me, telling me to buy gel for my burns in a pharmacy and not use the aloe vera I've got. Even before I got back to my room I knew she threw it away. She tried to blame the cleaner but I am 100% sure she instructed the cleaner to throw it away since she messaged me about it earlier that day. They literally got into my room and threw away my property without even as much as an apology for it . This goes beyond anything I experienced having visited over 50 countries in my life. I honestly was considering switching a hotel as she was about to ruin, otherwise an amazing experience I've got in Galapagos. Stay away if you want to have a relaxing time.
- Helene (9/5): Very homely feeling and pleasant place to stay. - Amazing service and presence from the host couple! A bit away from the Center of the town and breakfast could be improved.
- Wadsa (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (9/5): Superb - Quirky place with lovely owners.
Great pool and the breakfasts are amazing!
It's on the edge of town so it's quiet but only a short walk to all the restaurants and facilities.
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb -
