Guest Reviews
- khhkjhhkhkh (8/5): Pleasant for lunch - Haven't stayed here but visited several times for lunch. Free parking with lunch so you can walk around the lake and then have a decent pub lunch. They have lots of lunchtime offers, sometimes including a drink which makes for great value.
Food fine. Typical pub lunches. The bar is our preferred area to sit and eat.
- The_Foz (10/5): Delicious luncheon, excellent service. - On the 23rd October 2025, my wife and I enjoyed a very tasty luncheon in the restaurant. It was quiet, warm and comfortable. The service was excellent. Our waiter was Molly, who did everything to ensure we had all we needed. Molly was friendly but non-intrusive. She was also very polite and patient when dealing with payment at an adjacent table where each of four elderly ladies wished to pay separately, one of whom struggled with using her phone to pay and eventually resorted to using a card. We both commented that Molly seemed to embody all that a proficient waiter should be. Well done.
- Ingrid (10/5): Recommend this luxury accommodation - Better than some 5star hotels. Very comfortable bed and so clean. Had everything you needed.
- Stuart (6/5): - The room and bathroom were excellent except for the absence of aircon - i threw all the bedclothes on the floor and slept naked. It was unusually hot weather but the busy road also meant that a window couldn't be opened. Food was fine but restaurant service was thin. At the end of the meal I couldnt find anyone to pay and thought I'd settle at checkout. Half an hour later I was knocked up and asked to pay up NOW!
- david (10/5): - Good hotel
- selinac755 (6/5): Lovely hotel but let down by the food - Stayed here last night, lovely hotel, good location for Wentworth golf club but unfortunately let down by the food and service in the restaurant. We booked to have a meal in the evening. Service, a little slow, I had the risotto which was quite bland. My husband had the steak and ale pie which I would say was a little better. The breakfast, however was a let down. My eggs and avocado on toast was cold. My husband had the full english and the bacon definitely tasted of last nights steak. We had to keep asking for more coffee, cups, milk which were on the buffet table. Then the buffet was promptly put away at 9am, a little early I would say, even though there was maybe 10 people still eating.
- Antonio (10/5): - we have stayed here many times before. Great place and staff. The room could have been a little cleaner.
- 360josieh (4/5): Hugely disappointing - I ordered toad in the hole with bubble and squeak for my meal in your restaurant on 4th September 2025. It was not at all enjoyable, the sausages were ok, the Yorkshire pudding was hard and rubbery, the bubble and squeak and the gravy were tasteless. I left most of it, would definitely not recommend your restaurant food.
- Grant (10/5): - Lovely new rooms in this really nice pub.
- Steven (10/5): - Fantastic hotel, great staff and a fantastic selection of food and drink for all guests.
- sarahmD6238IS (4/5): Not great experience Expected better - After reading great review I booked here for friends birthday. I wish I hadn't. Parking was free for 3 hrs which was great and staff were friendly. Ordered bruchetta with goats cheese it was 5 individual pieces which was presented well problem was they were rock solid hard and over baked and hard to eat The steak i asked medium rare was like leather over cooked and very gristly the waiter dropped chips all over table apologised scooped them up back onto plate and left expecting us to eat them. Toilet smells bad tissue all over floor but none in the toilets. Getting out of carpark horrific as merges with the lakes overflow traffic. Maybe I came on a bad day but this was not what I expected after reading fab reviews.
- John (10/5): Great night away! - Beautifully decorated room, staff were all really friendly and the food was amazing. We really enjoyed our stay.
- Joanne (10/5): - Easy check in
Lovely, refurbished rooms
Excellent food
Convenient location for Legoland
Virginia Water park well worth a visit, a 3 minute stroll from the property
- patbuttigieg2016 (2/5): Bad service without eating any food - I booked a 1715 dinner table for my wife and me and when we arrived we were directed to a table for 2 by the entrance of the restaurant area. I told the person directing me (I think the manager) that I would prefer another table due to my wife’s foot operation it was vulnerable area. She was using a crutch. So he took is to a very tight alcove which was difficult to get in.
The whole restaurant was empty apart from 2 or 3 tables so I pointed this out that there were plenty of available tables albeit they were 4 seaters.
I pointed out this was a booking and not just got off the street but to no avail.
I thanked him and went to another much more welcoming restaurant.
This was a restaurant which I frequented with family and friends which we will not use again.
- Vacation55386243895 (10/5): Definitely recommend - Lovely spacious room with everything accommodating. Room was hot but had 3 windows with limited opening. But this was fine once all windows were open.
Had a meal on arrival which was lovely. Had the fish cakes and Bakewell Tart . Which was delicious.
Breakfast good choice. Had eggs royal also delicious. Choice of beverages and pasties.
Staff very friendly.
Spacious car park. Just registerer your car number plate on arrival.
- kylelI3837GE (10/5): Lovely lunch - Amazing staff, friendly and helpful, lovely place and lovely garden area, quality food and drinks too! Perfect location next to Virginia waters
- cebperry (2/5): Parking fine - I met a friend for breakfast here and then two weeks later they sent me a £100 parking fine for using the car park. Would have been nice if the staff had explained the parking situation to me while they took my order. No one expects to pay for parking in a pub. Won't be going back.
- Steve (10/5): - This is a great pub / hotel , each room has a boutique style to it. It’s fantastic clean well maintained.
- Caroline (10/5): - Only stayed overnight but would stay again - room was really good and very clean. Staff very helpful.
- Gary (6/5): - Nice location, good garden area. However we had issues with the toilet in our room running all the time.I had to isolate the water!
- Lynn (10/5): - Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable, outside space equally nice
Bed pillows were terrible and ruined the nights sleep even though bed was comfortable
- Peter (10/5): Great price, good location. - Hotel appears to have been recently refurbished, very comfortable room, well equipped. Above a friendly, pleasant Greene King pub, only had breakfast here but very good,
Nice helpful staff, very clean, great garden with lots of tables.
Great location for Windsor, Lego Land and Thorpe Park, and 2 minutes walk from the Virginia Water Pavillion and cafe.
One very minor gripe, rooms were very hot, needs Air-Con.
- thomasjJ1093SE (10/5): Fantastic food, views and people - Place is gorgeous and the staff wonderful! Treated myself to a smoked salmon and poached egg breakfast which was device. Thanks guys!

- R8815IMsaram (10/5): The BEST of the BEST ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - From the moment we arrived at the Wheatsheaf, we were welcomed by kind and sweet staff.
The pies were rich and filling with delicious sauce. The food came quickly and was gently served to us. I would highly recommend to go her is you want to have an excellent experience
Loved it
- susanhB2910QR (8/5): Lovely venue but unfortunately appalling parking! - We visited for Sunday lunch. The roasts were good and the staff were excellent. Shilpa our waitress was attentive and very good at her job (she deserves a 5 star review).
The venue is large with an outdoor dining option. The ambience inside was good. We were a party of six and the round table was lovely.
The parking is appalling though! It was a busy Sunday and we were 3 cars. We all sat waiting and shifting around in the car park and overflow car park for 45 minutes in order for cars to leave so that we could park! We also had to manoeuvre to let other cars in and out who were also trying to park. To add to the stress there was no turning point at the ‘dead end’ part of the car park. It all proved for a very stressful start to an afternoon out and we are usually calm people. We were just about to leave and eat elsewhere. The hotel does not have its own allocated parking and the car park belongs to an external company called Britannia. Therefore, it is also used by those visiting Virginia Water Lake next door. If you do manage to find a space then you register your car in the hotel and get 3 hours free in order to dine. Chef and Brewer need to allocate private parking for the hotel. The restaurant was far from full and this was clearly due to patrons being unable to park. They nearly lost us as a table of 6 and had it just been my husband and I we would definitely have not waited 45 minutes to park!
- David (8/5): - I stay for one night prior to attending a society golf event at a nearby golf course. My room was excellent, really well designed with good quality fixtures and fittings. Recommended.
- Pamela (10/5): Stylish and reasonable rate - Great hotel, lovely room and bathroom, clean, stylish and up-to-date decor. Good food on the large patio. Great location (easy to get to Heathrow)
- Q8709FGkieranb (10/5): Amazing hotel and pub - We stayed over for one night and was very impressed with the refurbishment inside. The beds were lovely an amazing bathroom as well and the breakfast was a great variety of options.
Alice looked after us doting our stay and she was very kind and helpful.
Will be returning again without question.
- helenmjames (4/5): Such a shame …refurbished but nothing has changed - A sunny day, drinks on the terrace, forget it, the outside bar is closed!
After queueing up for drinks I was informed that the bar will be closing at 5 pm and I wouldn’t be able to get another drink, and would have to go inside. When I made my payment for the drinks, the card machine requests if you want to give a service tip. This is ridiculous as you have to get your own drinks and take them to your table.
The fried food arrived undercooked. The bread was more like a biscuit.
When we asked to see the manager, she informed us that’s how it was and they’re short staffed. No real apology seemed & she was totally indifferent to our complaints.
This place has the potential to be a gold mine, it’s in a great location & has a beautiful Terrace BUT the service and the staff morale makes this not an enjoyable place to visit.
Maybe if you’re a tourist you can endure the experience but as a local it is very disappointing.
- Steve (10/5): - Relaxing quiet hotel with a boutique feel , I would recommend staying.
- Z1331XAdant (10/5): Great Hotel - We live locally and over the years this Hotel has become our first choice for a pint and food. The people are great (and hard working). We had a family gathering for Sunday lunch and all agreed the service was top drawer. The layout indoors and out is well planned. Great destination after the park. A very convivial and relaxing place.
- Sonia (10/5): - Professional and friendly staff
Comfortable bed, great shower
Excellent breakfast
- NEIL (8/5): Great Room & Service - The room was excellent. Comfortable, well equipped and modern. The staff were always helpful and friendly. The only downside was the quality of the food. It arrived barely warm and both the steak and the chicken dishes were very tough.
- Steven (10/5): - I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, it’s modern with all the bespoke features.
Good food great staff, clean and spacious rooms.
- Rebecca (10/5): Beautiful hotel - A beautiful place next to Virginia Waters. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Only down side was the room was very hot but very comfortable and well decorated. Even got a chocolate on arrival
- caroline (10/5): - Wonderful staff always very pleasant and helpful. Rooms very comfortable and reasonably priced
- Steven (10/5): - As always a fantastic hotel, I have stayed many times, and will definitely stay again
- Lena (8/5): Surprisingly lovely - Really lovely newly refurbished room with friendly service.
Very Comfortable bed and nice linen. Road at the front very busy but our room at the back was quiet. Breakfast was fine.
- Natalie (10/5): Gorgeous - Gorgeous hotel, friendly staff, and lovely food.
- Roving45020691036 (10/5): Charming Hotel in Surrey - Beautifully newly refurbished hotel with tons of charm and character. Beautifully decorated. Breakfast really good and lots of options.
A few recommendations to owners is to add a few hooks behind the doors and walls so one can hang wet jackets when entering.
Also an additional light in bathroom shining towards mirror would help as existing downlighters create a shadow.
The hotel is not ideal for older folk with lots of luggage as stairs going to rooms are steep and narrow and multiple firedoors with up and down steps would make it difficult for them. Advise to rather take light and small luggage if staying for a longer period.
Other than that it's absolutely stunning!
- Ruth (10/5): - Spacious twin room, nice touches like coffee bags and fresh milk in a flask. Helpful staff. Free parking and the lake walk right beside the hotel.
- K3624ATgh (10/5): Well done all. - What a lovely place to stay we have used numerous hotels in the past and found this one to be our favourite. The rooms are clean tidy and comfortable, the staff are friendly polite very helpful and welcoming. A special thank you to the manager for being so helpful and caring, well done all. Hope to return soon.
- Steven (10/5): Fantastic - This is a fantastic hotel, the service the food and drink are all top quality, the rooms are well kept and and boutique in style.
I will definitely stay again.
- Joanna (10/5): - Great hotel, stayed in December and again 12th January have rebooked. Staff are very helpful, hotel rooms are very comfortable and recently refurbished, great showers. Food in pub is great too highly recommend.
- Steven (10/5): Everything you could want. - I have stayed at this hotel 8 or 9 times now , the service and the quality never fails to impress me.

- E2506LGrosem (10/5): Great hotel - One of the best so far. The rooms are beautiful decorated, the beds are very comfortable, the staff are very professional and they go extra mile for me.
Definitely recommend the hotel room to everyone who wants a cosy room.
The restaurant is very clean . We were impressed with their Christmas decorations.
- Steven (10/5): - This is a great pub / hotel, very clean and modern.
- John (10/5): London Visit - Excellent service and warm surroundings.
Loved the restaurant as well.
- Steven (10/5): - It’s a fantastic hotel with very clean and modern rooms.
The restaurant had a wide selection of food and drinks.
- Steven (10/5): - The is a fantastic place, clean and tidy, great restaurant good food and great service.
I will definitely stay again
- Steven (10/5): - The is a fantastic hotel , very clean very nice.
The food menu has everything you could want.
Plenty of free parking.
- Trevor (10/5): Quiet country break with friends - Room was large and well appointed. Staff were very helpful to orient us to the walks nearby. Breakfast was varied and good (eggs Benedict, smoked salmon and eggs, smashed avocado and eggs for example). No lift but staff helped with heavy case up quite narrow and steep stairs. Without a car access is limited as no frequent buses nearby.
- I6950QXrobint (4/5): Needs a Staff upgrade ! - Have visited The Wheatsheaf for over 50 years . Arranged to meet some friends for dinner on Monday evening . Not a good experience , started off with flat cloudy Beer.
Had main courses which arrived ok , but very expensive dressed up Hunters chicken , very average and overpriced . Experience took a turn for the worse , we ordered a couple of Desserts and some more drinks . My partner's wine came the wrong colour ie white instead of Rose , and the beer came in pints instead of halves as ordered . Staff become very slow , when we were thinking of leaving I had to go to the bar and request the Bill. Staff still slow and unresponsive , could not operate the card machine .
Overall very poor impression of newly fitted premises , overcharging and inadequate staff obviously poorly trained . Management need to get a grip !
- Patricia (10/5): - Room was beautiful and very comfortable. Loved that it was next door to Virginia Water Lake. Staff very helpful and friendly.
- Steven (10/5): - This is a fantastic hotel , everything you could need.
Beautiful room, Fantastic food.
- 171marga (10/5): One of the best - I stayed overnight in the hotel, had a lovely meal in the restaurant and stay in a clean and comfortable room. All the staff were really friendly and accommodating and the service was quick!
The room was lovely with superb decoration, and the bathroom is stunning.
I was very impressed by their new refurbishment.
It seems that this hotel is managed by some professionals.
Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
- PeggyG-West (10/5): Wonderful Stay at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Virginia Water - My family and I recently stayed at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Virginia Water for two nights while attending a nearby family wedding. The hotel is modern, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. The staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, with a special mention to the housekeeping team and the hotel manager, Anna.
I needed help curling my hair, and Anna graciously came to my rescue—going above and beyond! The level of care and attention from the team made our stay extra special.
I would highly recommend the Wheatsheaf Hotel for anyone visiting the area. It's very reasonably priced, especially considering the high standard of accommodation. We will definitely be staying again!
- S (10/5): - Stayed here on numerous occasions. Been refurbished since the last stay and the difference is amazing. Really comfy rooms.
- Laura (10/5): - A very clean and warm inviting hotel/pub. Ample amounts of free parking. Easy access into Virginia waters if you fancy a walk. Good beer choices and wine. Food was exceptional for a pub. Would fully recommend.
- Steven (10/5): - Fantastic hotel, bar and restaurant. Great parking easy to find.
- mr c g (10/5): - Clean and new. Great stay.
- NEIL (10/5): - Nice, recently refurbished room. Comfortable but would benefit from air cooling. Would be very hot in summertime.
- patbI8577ZS (6/5): Poor lunch - Beautiful decoration throughout, outside space and inside amazing. However our lunch was so disappointing. We all had the ciabatta, bacon, chicken . So dry we had to ask for mayonnaise, day old bread , toasted which made it even dryer, service and menu great but on expensive side. .mentioned to server that very dry and u appetising, no response.
- W4393TOjohns (2/5): Yuck - Took 5-10 minutes to find any bar staff and I had to ask if I could have a drink. The bar girl must have had a sense of humour bypass. Under flight path for Heathrow so noisy and lake nothing special. Windsor is so up itself you would think they were all royals. Ok for tourists who believe in royalty or for Prince Andrew maybe
- Tony561 (2/5): NOT dog friendly - Website says dog friendly, Chef & Brewer’s hotel booking line recommended it as a dog-friendly option near where I wanted to go - then the hotel themselves said “no dogs”. Total waste of time, and really quite misleading. Puts me off the entire Chef & Brewer chain.
- Mr S (10/5): Very pleasant facility - All very nice except with the hot/humid weather, some form of aircon would be an advantage. There was a fan but it just moved the hot/humid air around making it feel worse
- Shamukum (4/5): Food should be improved - After the refurbishment, the outside area is a lot better especially when nice and sunny. The service is quite good but food quality should be improved. The starter chicken strips were over crispy, couldn’t even see any chicken, it was just over crispy batter such that chicken was hardly there. The cucumber salad was not freshly made, it was limp!
- Ashley (10/5): Perfect short break - Great stay surprisingly quiet. Great restaurant both indoor and outdoor areas. Perfect for Virginia water and surrounding areas for Windsor.
- Clint (8/5): One night stay Ascot week - Beautiful pub hotel, very impressed with room and hotel in general though it was expensive. Negatives were lack of air con in room and brunch was terrible but I was so hungry I ate it!
- steveccc12345 (8/5): GK are lucky the 3 ladies pulled it off - What a great lead team ie blond lady (boss) red head lady 2nd in charge such a lovely lady doing a great job
Dark haired lady in the garden a true professional
Food and Drink was good
Here we go
When will green king give there senior team support
Untrained staff on the floor
Making double the work for the 3 ladies mentioned above
Ascot week etc etc
Overhaul due to the professional service we got from 3 out of 10-12 on the floor I can’t give a negative review
However GK staff are staff
Kids from uni are not staff until there training is completed
So not on a Sunday please
- U5239FJfrankr (8/5): Stayed for an Ascot trip - We stayed for one night, couldn’t fault it. Staff were excellent. A few teething problems but nothing major. Would have been 5 * but room was very hot. They even found a room for us to get changed in for the racing. Would highly recommend staying there. We will be back. Thank you Frank.
- Ian (8/5): Good stay close to LHR - The room was a little dated but it’s priced accordingly & a great location close to LHR (with free parking).
- Duncan (8/5): - Very enjoyable stay. Good dinner and breakfast. The staff were very attentive on what was a busy afternoon.
On the doorstep for Virginia Water
- Verified traveler (6/5): - TV not working. Loud drilling at 0930.
- Katie (8/5): - Pub stay. The place is nice, clean sheet & towels, tea / coffee making facilities. Perfectly acceptable for a night stay.
- deeedwards1961 (4/5): Disappointing - lovely pub/restaurant , good parking , staff great but food terrible ! Had turkey which tasted mushy and processed , veg was over cooked , roast potatoes pale and bland very disappointing !
Had ice cream which was ok but melting when it was served
- raymond (10/5): - The overall stay was excellent, quick check in, service was great and food overall ok
- Alex (8/5): - Good size rooms, nice and clean. The staff were really lovely, very friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent.
The decor in the rooms is a bit dated.
- John (8/5): Value for money - Good value for money, friendly staff, lively bar.
- Andy (10/5): - Room was very clean, spacious, shower was great. Could not fault anything.
- Ian (8/5): - The hotel is a little dated but the room was clean & comfortable & the staff were pleasant & helpful. Great location close to LHR with free parking.
- John (10/5): Just what I was looking for - Nice helpful staff. Great comfortable spot. Warm and inviting.
- Peter (8/5): - Handy for Ascot good staff breakfast good
- Nik (10/5): - Overall good experience, check in smooth, cheerful, helpful staff. It’s a pub so you get what you pay for. Obviously location means there will be traffic noise. Made worse by good weather so needed all windows open. Would have no hesitation recommending this place if you’re in the area
- Geoffrey (8/5): Quick stay - Great location and while room could do with a refresh it was all great - good size, comfortable and everything you’d want.
Staff were great too. Welcoming, helpful and smiling.
- Les (2/5): - Just two cups in the room. No commodities the paint peeling off toilet pa lid. Difficult and dangerous to get in bath for shower. No information manual or instructions for how to use air con. Had to stand on chair to turn off. Dining
- Georgina (8/5): - Rooms are a little dated and in need of a refurb, especially the floor boards in the corridors! They were so loud that it felt like people were actually walking through our room! So unfortunately we didn’t have a great nights sleep - but we couldn’t fault the location or the staff who were all very welcoming and friendly.
- Helen (8/5): - Hotel was lovely, so central to where we needed to be the next day. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, would definitely recommend and will be returning soon .
- Sandra (10/5): - Excellent staff, first and foremost very professional, beds really comfy, great showers great stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Bad hotel! - This hotel is tired and in need of desperate upgrade.
The decor is out of the 90s and there is a unique scent throughout.
We were given a room on the first floor next to a pair of external air handling ducts that started operating at 4am and with the poor state of the windows the sound easily travelled into the room.
Furthermore there was a door on the ground floor that could be heard closing with a loud thud from our roomvwhich also started early morning.
When these points were mentioned at checkout there was very little empathy and zero effort to make any adjustments, which is a key part of the hospitality industry.
Overall the stay was shocking and not one to be repeated.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor - Good location but tired hotel in need of updating. Restaurant closes at 8:30 which is poor for a hotel aimed at those travelling. Bedroom fittings in need of repair, updating and in some areas, cleaning.
- Michael (6/5): - Spacious room. Mattress very good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average hotel stay - There is a small reception desk tucked away with no staff manning. I asked a bar staff to ask and a grumpy lady came to serve. She was in a really bad mood, didn't smile and made it quite uncomfortable.
Luckily the bar staff were friendlier and very accommodating. It was very close to the kitchen closing and they quickly put in our dinner order.
The room is spacious however the decor was old fashioned and tired. The sofa was sagging and the whole room needs updating. The online photos are deceptive.
Good points were there was always hot water and the bed was comfortable. Pub food was tasty at a reasonable price. Lovely pub ambience and decor.
Overall, it was a functional stay but if you're looking for luxury, look again.
- Carly (8/5): Great find - Great stay for a few days. Not the most luxurious of hotels but great location with a nice pub with food downstairs.
