Guest Reviews
- Jack (10/5): - clean character room, friendly staff, great food in a lovely market town
- Gillian (10/5): - Excellent bar downstairs which was very clean and looked very attractive. Room itself was quirky and large. Had everything needed , warm , comfortable although only thing I didn’t care for was the pillows. A little too hard for me but everybody is different
We didn’t eat in hotel as we were meeting with friends but looked very nice .
- Anthony (8/5): - Lovely, quirky old inn. Clean & comfortable. Food good. Staff friendly & helpful.
Next time we will request a room not on the top floor, as we are in our 70’s & found the uneven stairs a bit of a challenge!
- Janet (8/5): - Loved the oldie worldlyness of the place. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good we ate at dinner and breakfast. Our only complaint was the bed, we like soft/medium but that was firm bordering on rock hard.
- Carey (10/5): - Always a pleasure to stay
- Charmaine (10/5): - cosy and clean great staff
- Carl (8/5): - The property was a nice period property but was in need of done refurbishment.
- Ian (10/5): - Staff & Service were excellent.
- scott (10/5): - Very unique place to stay. Staff really friendly and helpful, if a little understaffed. Would stay here again
- tamsin (10/5): - great place to stay only slight problem was weak internet, other wise perfect
- Kim (8/5): - Lovely Quirky old building. Value for money, and a good base for the area
- Garry (10/5): - Lovely old building with plenty of character and big rooms with everything you need for a short stay.
- paul (8/5): Great value - Lovely old fashioned coaching Inn. Fabulous bar area, quirky comfortable large rooms. Nice dinner, great breakfast (included in price). Very good value.
- Michael (8/5): Would recommend. - Great place to stay. Real olde worlde. Beer selection was good, breakfast great. Room was clean.
- Philip (10/5): - Great time in Tutbury which looks like it is thriving
- Gary (10/5): - Mark , his wife and team create a friendly atmosphere where nothing is too much of a problem.
My only criticism would be the standard of the croissants and danish pastries. they never looked fresh and appetising, the croissants were very bready, I will let you off the fruit selection because the whole country suffers from that!!!
- Heather (10/5): Greene King Tutbury. - Very comfortable hotel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable stay for our one night visit. We were actually moved to another hotel due to a burst water pipe, we were informed the day before, but we had the room at the same price and had breakfast thrown in so it worked out ok
- Leslie (10/5): - The Character and feel of the Pub, and interestingly the local Peacocks that live in the village.
- John Antony (6/5): - A nice English pub/hotel experience. The property is tired and needs maintenance. Lack of attention to detail in common areas. Window sills and window curtains dirty.
- Lynda (10/5): - Very quaint, traditional and friendly inn
- Carey (10/5): Lovely place - Always a pleasure to stay here along with the history of the place
- Carolyn (8/5): Hard bed in room 1 - The place itself was great but room 1bed was so hard and uncomfortable but breakfast was great wifi a bit slow .But very close to January barns so did the job
- Lisa (6/5): One night stay - Tutbury a lovely place . Hotel nice but we thought £80 a night was enough to pay for a quirky but average quality room which needs a little bit of tlc to bring it up to date. Bathroom very tired!
- Graham (10/5): Brilliant - Geordie guy who checked.us in was top drawer. Really friendly. The patrons were really friendly and we ended up having a chat with many regulars. Great place to stay.
- Tim (8/5): Hotel with character - The hotel is a very old building and therefore no lift and for us in a top floor room quite a lot of stairs. Room was a good size with double bed, desk, small table and two chairs, wardrobe with iron and ironing board. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdrier and fridge.
Free wi-fi good TV. Reasonable sized en-suite with over-bath shower.
Mismatched bedside lights; not important but could improve the image. There is airccon but we didnt need it.
Good choice of breakfast; continental or cooked to order.
Bar is popular and quite busy but service was good.
Ate on Saturday night in restaurant area. Good standard chef and brewer pub food, pleasant and efficient waiting staff and not overpriced.
Big car park at rear of hotel.
In general an enjoyable stay; had one minor issue quickly resolved when brought to managers attention.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ye Old dog and Partridge - Character hotel with bar and restaurant.Room had all the facilities needed.Beautiful location.
- Gillian (8/5): - Very pleasant stay In be a lovely old pub. Room was very clean and warm, and bigger than expected . Water was very hot which was a nice change to some establishments I think only fault would be quite hard mattress and hard pillows. Can’t comment on food as we were eating out Would not stop a return visit
- Garry (10/5): - Excellent stay, friendly and helpful staff with a room that was comfortable and spacious despite being an old building - plenty of character in the building and highly recommend.
- Sarah (10/5): - I loved that it had a bath in the en-suite, you dont get that in many places. The quirkiness of the inn itself was fantastic. Such a stunning building.
- Robert (10/5): Very Comfortable - A very confortable stay. The staff were very helpful.
The food mis very tasty but portions are small
- L (10/5): - Lovely place, abit disappointed with the room 7 very slanted floor and bed , but it is a old building otherwise a lovely stay for our anniversary
- Jason (8/5): Value for money - Unbelievable value for money, situated in a lovely little village. The stage were great and the menu/food very good.
- John (8/5): Dog and Partridge, Tutbury - Stayed here numerous times, atmosphere and food great. Rooms quaint, very oldy-worldy so can't compare directly to a modern hotel room with level floors, high ceilings and purpose designed layout.
Only one bath towel for two of us was the only negative thing.
- Michael (10/5): - Incredible history in the building and lovely pub with great food.
- Philip (10/5): - Great hotel in Tutbury - good to see the town thriving
- James (4/5): Amazing property but in desperate need of update - Amazing 15th Century property but in desperate need of upgrade. Carpets torn, shower filthy and plaster falling from ceiling. Disappointing.
- Alan (10/5): - Excellent. Friendly staff. Very clean premises.
I was surprised by the Expedia site which quoted breakfast for the standard room at £10.50 each but for the Courtyard room £18 each. Embarrassing because the hotel menu quotes £10.50!!!!
- Elaine (10/5): Great history and a great welcome - Fascinating pub with an amazing history. Had I been aware. Of the stairs being old and interesting, I might have asked for a ground floor room, but I’m very glad I didn’t know as it was a lovely room. Staff were lovely and very helpful and friendly, my gluten free diet was catered for and absolutely no complaints about anything. 12/10. Thank you for a lovely stay
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful old hotel, great location with lots of parking places.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Food was fantastic.
- Catherine (6/5): - friendly staff, good breakfast
stairs and rooms really need a refurb
- Helena (8/5): Stop over for friends wedding - Good night sleep
- Mark D (8/5): - Stayed one night here and had breakfast and dinner. All was good no complaints at all food was delicious after a tiring day on the train
- Helen (10/5): - Great air conditioning
- Philip (10/5): - Timber framed hotel in a good location with a large car park. Food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Will stay at this hotel again.
- John (8/5): - This is an older property but as long as you know what to expect, all is well. We were in a room right at the top, so it was quieter, but the climb would not suit everyone.
The staff are very good. Breakfast has various hot and cold options and eveything we've tried has been fresh and tasty. We also had a good dinner here one evening.
We'd definitely stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): Full of character - The Dog and Partridge us a marvelous place. It is a historic building but the rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. All the food was super. We'll be staying there next time we are in the area.
- Craig (10/5): Ye Olde world charm - Lovely stay in an old coaching inn which has all the quirks of low doorways, uneven creaking floors and “bellied” walls…perfect. Great staff, clean comfortable rooms and tasty food. Highly recommended
- THOMAS (10/5): - Great hotel, with quirks of an old building but kept well maintained.
Checkin was easy with a staffed desk, was even shown upto my room which doesnt happen too much now a days.
clean tidy bedroom with good size tv, ensuite and very comfy bed.
Good selection of drinks behind the bar and very good food for a chef and brewer, I had one of the specials (venison) which was fantastic.
Breakfast the next morning was equally good.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Large free car park at back of property.
Great overall stay for a business stopover
- Stephen (6/5): Ok but not exceptional - The stay was ok. A bit expensive. Meals were smaller portion than similar restaurants. Food was getting cold whilst eating.
- Alan (10/5): Lovely pub and a friendly team - Amazing old building that’s well maintained.
Great food and drink all delivered by a friendly team
- Graham (10/5): - Character hotel with friendly staff.
- Dennis (10/5): - Still kept some of the original features and felt very homey
- Susan (8/5): Lovely friendly place - Beautiful 16th century pub. Friendly staff and locals. Comfortable bed. Would prefer walk in shower rather than over the bath but I managed. Not much on the hospitality tray only 2 tea bags and 2 sachets of coffee so you will have to go to the bar to request more or bring your own. Food excellent. Best full English breakfast I've had for a long time
- James (10/5): Business trip - Made feel very welcome by the staff
Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location, friendly staff - Friendly staff, I had a payment query in advance which was dealt with promptly
- Phil (10/5): Traditional building and friendly staff - This place is so traditional that you will have to duck a beam or two, and the odd bit of flor is pretty uneven. But this all adds to the charm of an old building. Breakfast was good for all three of us who were staying. Evening meals were good value, and reasonable well cooked. I wouldn't really consider anywhere else when working in the area.
- Stewart (8/5): - Enjoyed the stay, just felt that the hotel could look better with just a little effort
- Kateryna (8/5): Lovely and charming - It was unplanned stay - I was on a meeting at Burton and got to the hospital. Since I left the hospital after 23.30 I had to stay overnight somewhere around.
Usually the reception is closed after 23.00, but they did open the property for me, checked me in and even brought me some team.
It was very kind and very helpful.
The room and all the property is very traditional, which ai think is just lovely.
Amazing breakfast with great choices of freshly cooked food.
Stuff is very very helpful. Amazing outer area.
Overall the place is very charming. If you want to feel really British spirit that’s just a perfect place.
- justin (8/5): Business trip - Lovely hotel, good location, lovely staff!
Only criticism would be some of the rooms are a tad dark.
