- Yukako (6/5): Awesome history but could done improvement on room to be more acceptable looks - Breakfast was awesome Very old - I understand that it is historical building with lots of history but I still thinking its important to keep hotel in good shape. The room was very old and dated. Could done a good renovation for what I paid for.
- Claire (10/5): Comfortable, interesting and convenient. - Loved the historic feel of the property and the original features that have been retained yet the bedroom and bathroom was up to date and very comfortable. The location of the hotel is also perfect, only a short walk to the UNESCO world heritage site with all the shrines and temples. Nothing!
- Julie (10/5): I would come back again! - Beautiful property, charming, great restaurant, wonderful staff. The small bar is a cozy haven. Nothing.
- Moxom (10/5): Formerly a Samurai's mansion in a majestic location. It'sJapan's first resort hotel from 1893. - They offer a set menu breakfast served in a beautiful room with lovely views served by an attentive staff.

- Simon P... (10/5): - Beautiful old hotel, exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, and a lovely atmospheric bar area as well, the restaurant looked nice but we did not eat here. It is right next to the world heritage area for Shinkyo Bridge, Tosho Gu and the other shrines and just a short walk down into the town and up to Tamozawa Imperial Villa and other restaurants. We stayed in the annex and the views were beautiful. Special mention to the delicious coffee in the room too 👍 Nothing.

- MICHAEL (8/5): Iconic hotel with history - An iconic historic hotel at a very central location close to the Shinkyo Bridge and World Heritage Site At first we were given an unrenovated room which was pretty run down for a superior twin room with old bathroom, heating pipes visible and paint coming off the walls. Upon complaining we were given a much nicer room in the adjacent building, renovated in 2023 by a very understanding receptionist, who noted that the whole hotel is up for complete renovation next year.

- Robert (10/5): - Just a great place. It was a splurge for us and worth it; we loved the atmosphere of a historic hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a wonderful view of the mountains. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. We enjoyed wandering the various corridors of the hotel and the lovely grounds. The included Western breakfast was good, but we paid the supplement for the Japanese breakfast and it was fantastic. Excellent location with in easy walking distance of the main shrines.
- Martin (10/5): - Wonderful stay at Nikko Kanaya! We loved everything
- Hironobu (10/5): -
- Galavazi (10/5): Wonderful time trip. - We stayed two nights in one of the older rooms in the original building and although the bathroom and furniture is dated, the room was clean, very spacious and light.
We liked that the window could open and had a mosquito net in it. Our reservation included breakfast and dinner and we loved the delicious food and impeccable service and table setting. The hotel has so much atmosphere and is in such great location and the staff is very attentive and welcoming. We would like to come back. It would be nice if the older rooms were updated with some tasteful furniture and some decoration on the walls. It all looked quite spare. It seems a waste not to make these rooms more attractive.
- Florence (9/5): The hotel is wonderful, with a careful maintenance of older features, and excellent service. - I was lucky to stay in the main building and really appreciated the atmosphere, old furniture, and careful service. The view from my room was exquisite.
- fiona (9/5): We would come back - Beautiful large room, ready walk to temples
- Eitan (9/5): - Location.view from the room. Breafast. Two beds no chice for a single bed.
- Roland (7/5): Faded Beauty has Seen Better Times - The history of the hotel is everywhere...beautiful from the outside. The view from my room was beautiful. The rooms are clean, just very faded. The huge windows were beautifully spotless providing excellent views of the outside. Peaceful location close to the Shinkyo Bridge and Nikko Toshogu Shrine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The meals were good, but way over priced. Unfortunately the history is everywhere. The property is pretty run down... It feels like it has not been cared for since the 1930s. It has tons of potential, but needs a lot of investment to bring it back to its former glory days. Though the location is convenient for sight seeing, everything around closes by 4 or 5 pm so you are obligated to to eat in their restaurant. The food is good, but overpriced. The walk up the hill from the street is killer.

- Irina (8/5): - Perfect location in a very picturesque area, beautiful walking path. Comfortable and spacious room. Classy dinner and breakfast with silver cutlery and porcelain, served in the " imperial" style This is an old historical building, therefore the rooms are pretty old and worn out .. there is a certain charm, but it is lost with outside temperatures below zero . The heating ( which was build in 1905) was not working and the aircon in the corner was not doing the job and the windows and doors let all the air in .
- Shigeto (9/5): -
- SUMIRE (10/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Historic hotel where dignitaries have stayed he - Scenic grounds. Historic photos. Comfortable accommodation.
- Hui Chen (10/5): -
- James (10/5): This place is BEAUTIFUL! - Beautiful hotel with a classic look and feel! It was a bit dated in some aspects but that was part of the charm for us. Loved being so close to everything and the staircase down to the river was a big hit for the kids! Some of the carpets could have used replacement but very comfortable and cozy.
- Jennifer (7/5): Nice location and hospitality; maybe not the most comfortable for families. - Very hospitable and convenient location to world heritage sites Bedding is old and room had a bit of a smell. Needs investment in blackout curtains.
- Alpana (10/5): Great stay, great property and great food - The food was excellent Only the price was expensive
- Antonio (10/5): - It's classic elegance and refined style was a return to a different era. Nothing.
- Charles (10/5): - The staff was extremely helpful from getting us taxis to taking our pictures. They came out on their own to offer to take pics outside Nothing
- C.P.J. (10/5): Fantastisch, onvergetelijk!! - De sfeer, de ambiance en vriendelijkheid Niets
- Peter (10/5): -
- Alyssa (10/5): -
- Dalia GINISERAN (10/5): A great stay at this historical hotel! - Location was great. We had a corner room in the Annex and the views on both sides were awesome! The room was quite big that can actually accommodate 4 persons. I also love the all-white bathroom!.. Just had a goosebumps and felt so privileged when the staff who escorted us to the room mentioned that Helen Keller stayed on the same room.. Worth mentioning is the Afternoon Tea, a bit pricey but was excellent. Staff were polite and speak English well.. The heater took so long to adjust to the desired setting. So, ended up turning it off and restarted again.
- PHILIPPE (8/5): - L'emplacement. Le style old fashion.
L'accueil.
- Lynaire (8/5): Beautiful old hotel with interesting history - The beauty of an old hotel.

- Lisa Anne (10/5): Great Location and Service! - The hotel was in a fantastic location! Not too close to the hustle and bustle by the train station and not too far from everything. We particularly loved the hospitality showed to us by the doorman named Hermawan. He provided exceptional service to us when we asked for help, but most importantly, he was so welcoming, friendly and always greeted us with a warm smile! He is definitely an asset to this hotel!
- Jones (10/5): Beautiful hotel in beautiful location - Great location right next to the old bridge and Nikko World Heritage Shrine, we upgraded to the newly renovated annex and the beds and pillows were like sleeping in a cloud, the best ever. The breakfast was excellent, this is a great place to stay.

- Yung Chun (10/5): - Everything, every detail is great. As a history lover. I really enjoy the tours they have. The staff is kind and thoughtful. It's the best hotel in my mind. None
- Tan (9/5): - Charming historic building, wonderful staff. Large room by Japanese standards. A bit pricey and not a lot of breakfast choices.
- jonathan (10/5): -
- Sean (9/5): -
- Pablo (9/5): -
- Natalya (10/5): - It is a historical building from 1873. We had a wonderful tour over the building to learn about its rich history. The guide was amazing, I have learned a lot about the place.
- Man Keun (8/5): High classical hotel that is worthy to stay enough - I had a half board room price and the quality for dinner was unexpectedly nice with high classical western style. It is more than experience. The room temperature was not well-controlled. In fact, it was too hot inside though outside temperature was freezing.
- Amos (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Nikko - Extremely comfortable, great location
- Julian (9/5): -
- WIlliam (10/5): - Historic buildings and location Na

- ELIZABETH (10/5): - We were on a family trip to Japan and had booked a room at the Nikko Kanaya Hotel intrigued by its history. On arrival we inquired about mo7ntain views and were advised to choose a room in the annexe building with mountain views, which was slightly more expensive than the rooms we had originally booked. The Annexe is the building to the right of the main Hotel building and the extra cost was absolutely worth it. The Annexe rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard and the twin room we had was very spacious with a lovely bathroom and a small sitting area in front of the large window. We were also allocated a room on the 3rd floor. This meant that we had the most wonderful view up the valley towards the mountains and the centrepiece of Mount Nantai. The Hotel itself is about a mile from the station and a reasonable walk or short bus ride from Tobu Nikko station. There are also Hotel shuttle buses although we didn't use these. The Hotel is very close to Nikko's world heritage site of shrines and temples. We also bought a 2-day bus pass, which was discounted for Hotel residents and travelled to Lake Chuzenji and beyond exploring the many recommended sites as we travelled up the valley. Nothing, but can only comment on our experience of a third floor annexe room. We also didn't take the Hotel meal plan choosing to eat out in Nikko while we were there so unable to rev
