• Ellipse (4/5): Bad first impression and then some - Day 1 (afternoon) Impressions of the lobby were not positive. It smelt musty and seemed it could do with a little cleaning. The staff at the reception were very kind and helpful and spoke both English and French. The room itself is home to a cockroach. It is less than clean. The room card has to go into the slot near the door at an angle; it does not fit properly. The kettle had been placed far from any power point, which makes no sense. I moved it and tried it at two different power points but the kettle did not work. I phoned reception to let them know. In the meantime, I tried to get the wifi working only to discover the modem, which is dirty, was not switched on. I struggled to get it on but to no avail. It used one the plug points I had tried the kettle on. I phoned reception to report this problem as well. I waited for about twenty minutes for someone to come to my room to deal with the kettle. The lights in my room had be working, which is to be expected. Shortly after I had phoned about the modem, power was restored, I suspect, by someone outside the room by flipping some or other switch. Within thirty seconds of the modem starting up, someone came to my room to look at the kettle and the modem. He had the cheek to tell me that the kettle would start boiling the water soon and I needed to be patient. He was implying that I was being unreasonable and that I had somehow wanted hot water instantly. I told him more than once that I waited for twenty minutes and the electricity had just come on to where the modem and the kettle were plugged in. Also, at the same time, additional lights in the room switched on, which means there clearly some lights that also did not have electricity for some reason. In terms of a room safe, it is right on the top of a cupboard, meaning most guests would need to climb a ladder to reach it. It is not even inside the cupboard. This makes no sense. I have also, thus far, not found any "Do not disturb" or "Please make my room" signs. This can create problematic situations. There is an ashtray in my room but I am not a smoker. Why was I not asked if I was a smoker? Are people in other rooms near me suddenly going to start smoking, forcing me to breathe in their carcinogenic poison? This hotel has an agreement, it appears, with one of the banks that was largely bought out two years ago by a bank headquartered in Kenya. It would seem that the bank forces its staff and suppliers to stay at hotels run by, for lack of a better term, family members, irrespective of whether the hotel is up to scratch or not. Day 1 (evening) There is some loud thud, which I presume is supposed to be music, disturbing the peace. One can hear people speaking loudly all around the hotel, endlessly; one can hear furniture being moved, the clang of cutlery and children running around and shouting in competition with some of the adults that are shouting. This is most certainly not a hotel suitable for people who are business and who want to concentrate or rest. I saw a cockroach again. It seems to be bigger than the first one I saw. If I am correct, then there are at least two cockroaches in the room. I tried to take a photo of it but it ran away so fast that the photo is something of a blurry blob between the writing desk and the curtain. Nonetheless, I will post the photo here. I also noticed there is hardly any toilet paper, and the toilet paper that is there is quite rough and has been unceremoniously dumped on top of the cistern. There is no toilet roll holder. I honestly do not understand how this hotel can be considered three-star. Day 2 Yesterday, I gave the room a two-star rating. This morning, I have downgraded it to one star. In the shower, was a dirty, old used bottle of shampoo and conditioner. How long must it have been there for it to get dirty? There are so many other things wrong that I wanted to write about this morning but Google says I have run out of characters. That is how bad it is. There are slippers for guests to wear but these were not sealed. Did a previous guest wear these? The anti-slip shower mat is dirty. Has the hotel not heard of athlete's foot or other infections? Why is a dirty mat in the shower? One of the shower taps is missing a piece and, it seems, is coming away from the wall. The shower has a sliding door to close it, which is perfectly normal. However, it is pointless having this as one of the glass panels of the shower that was originally there is no longer there. Can management tell us if that panel disappeared a week ago, a month ago or ten years ago? I noticed the hotel is using the TV in the room to hide very bad scratches on the table. Also, the plugs behind the TV are dirty. It can be seen quite easily by guests, so why has Housekeeping not seen it? Even the key card for the room is dirty on both sides. I went for breakfast this morning but have never witnessed such a disaster and this, allegedly, is a three-star hotel. The restaurant is dank, stuffy and unappealing. What is worse is that the little food there is, is utterly disgraceful, and there are serving dishes with food floating in water. I could not eat there. I walked out without having breakfast. It seems I will not be able to eat any breakfast for a week because of this shambles of a so-called three-star hotel.

• hardiksv (8/5): Cozy hotel close to city centre - Hotel Lubumbashi, managed by professional team, provides clean-cozy rooms for a great price. The hotel houses a nice swimming pool, a restaurant next to it. A well stock bar for booze lovers. It also has small cute coffee shop, a barber shop next to it. The staff is helpful, friendly. The small garden houses swings and cute sitting area. The restaurant serves most veg and non-veg dishes. A USD 5 Shawarma is enough for one person as one course meal. The managerial team is always ready to help us, going an extra mile. A super market next to it. A taxi stand is at a stone throw distance. Mining city Kolwezi is 250+ from this place. Make sure they arrange pick up and protocol services (by air travellers), if you are visiting the country for the first time.

• ThaiManow (4/5): Not so good anymore - This is an update of my May 2017 review. This hotel has upgraded its facade tremendously however the interior aspect have declined substantially. The rooms are still nice and clean, but the sheets and towels are becoming tired. The TV offers only 2 international channels with snowy reception and terrible sound that goes in and out of service. There is no wifi reception in the rooms. One has to sit in the lobby or by the pool in uncomfortable chairs to get reception. Today it took 3 hours to have a tech fix the a/c while I was trying to work. The fix took 2 minutes. The biggest change is the quality of the restaurant service. It takes 30 - 40 minutes to attract the attention of the service staff to either order, ask for more food or drink, or to get the bill. The servers are blind and the managers happy to sit behind their desks looking at their phones. This deplorable service was the most annoying. Our company has held 2-3 conferences here per year booking 25 - 35 rooms at a shot for 3 - 5 days each time. One would think that the managers would like to make sure all was good. But no. This is the last time to book here. There are plenty of other good standard hotels in Lubumbashi.

Malls are at walking distance if you need anything urgently. Wi-FI is free and speed is good. An overall good place to stay.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - The location of the hotel is convenient to most authorites and shopping area with taxi and mini buses outside. The room is large but the stool was blocked. Wireless network was not very reliable as most of the network do in this country.
• KrisBerw (8/5): Fancy hotel with Indian cuisine - Big and comfortable hotel which suffers, as any accomodation in Congo, from the occasional power and internet cuts. European food in the restaurant is rather expensive but the Indian cuisine is excellent and affordable. Staff is very helpful and friendly, but you will quickly discover theywork under a lot of stress, due to harsh conditions imposed by the management.
• AlphaNovemberTango (6/5): Generally okay. - Located in the center of the city, this property is 10-15mn drive from the Lubumbashi international airport. I was welcomed by a trilingual receptionist (speaks Swahili, English and French). Under two minutes upon standing there, I was offered a cool welcome drink. The check in paper work was swift and professional though. With a medium size, my room on the first floor was very comfortable. In one corner, there was a desk with snacks (not complementary) and on another table I found complementary bottles of mineral water (2), tea bags, coffee bags two tea cups and an electric kettle. The room had a TV with a few international channels, a cupboard in which was found an unlockable safe. The bed was very good. I mean very comfortable with neat sheets and comfortable blanket. The air conditioning was great too though I had to replace the batteries of the remote control myself. I really enjoyed the constant internet connectivity despite the very low speed (less than 3 Mbps). Plus, I had this WiFi repeater that also had an RJ 45 cable integrated to facilitate connecting laptops in case the WiFi is not the best. The breakfast buffet was great. Plenty of variety including nicely cooked vegetables. The hotel’s neighborhood that is very noisy. It is actually located next to a square (junction) that serves as informal bus station where transporters continually shout the names of destinations. There is no internal parking space. You drop from the shuttle in the street before walking into the premises of the hotel. The Bathroom is sadly very (very) tiny and the safe in my room did not work.

• ThaiManow (8/5): Well-run, clean, comfortable and top service - I've stayed at Hotel Lubumbashi twice for business meetings, once in late 2016 and again this month in 2017. The hotel management is continuously updating and expanding the facilities to provide a complete and relaxing stay. The hotel facilities are excellent for large meetings with various size conference rooms, comfortable additional work space for small groups and individuals, and excellent buffet service for large groups. The restaurant has a good selection of dishes, with a large number of Indian dishes. The table service is quick, considerate and very attentive. The guest rooms are clean, well appointed and roomy. The bathrooms are modern and clean, and the beds are large and very comfortable with nice, soft pillows. During both my stays the hotel management was always checking on customer satisfaction, and any even slight small concern addressed immediately. As an individual and as a director of an NGO, I am most satisfied and happy to always return to Hotel Lubumbashi.
• WillemVis (8/5): Good place to stay, very good kitchen (goed hotel, lekker eten) - Been here several times on a business trip also for longer stays. Hotel is clean, staff is nice, kitchen for dinner is good, a lot to choose the menu. A lot of dishes from the Indian cuisine. Service in the restaurant is good but slow. Breakfast needs some improvement. WIFI sometimes good and sometimes slow. They have a swimmingpool since October 2016. Op verschillend zakenreizen hier geweest, ook voor langere perioden. Hotel is schoon, aardig personeel goed restaurant ook , veel keuze en veel Indische gerechten op de kaart, service in het restaurant is goed maar traag. Ontbijt is niet geweldig. Wifi soms ok maar ook vaak traag
• rie (8/5): tiny and valuable hotel. - Room is confortable and clean. but, the internet connection is very poor.
• ashishsunnyday (8/5): Great Hotel - Staff very helpful and kind, food good, room a little musty smell otherwise good, Aircondition cooled room nicely. I paid cash for my stay. Internet is perfect , restaurant serves very good indian cuisine food
• millionmiler_9 (6/5): Comfortable, but with some lapses - The hotel is a bit of an enigma, doing well in some respects but with some notable lapses. The rooms are large and fairly attractive, with lots of blond wood and a large bed with a comfortable mattress and spotless sheets. The room and the common areas are kept quite clean. The hotel is ugly from the outside, but pleasant inside, especially the courtyard. The rooms on the front side are right on a major street and it's very noisy during the day, starting in the early morning, but it's pretty quiet at night so it doesn't interfere with sleep. The food is inconsistent. The breakfast is just fair. The Indian food is outstanding, and the rest of the lunch and dinner food is OK. One night when I ordered a room service meal, it came punctually, but another night the room service phone number was constantly engaged for 2-1/2 hours so I went without dinner. In general, the service is at times friendly and efficient and at other times indifferent at best. The internet is very slow, which may be why the credit card machine at the front desk only works sporadically. Be prepared to pay your hotel bill in cash if the credit card machine fails repeatedly.
• deepteckishie (6/5): Stay - Okay but WIFI internet super slow, only suitable for instant messaging. Room very clean and nice. Food and beverage expensive in the hotel . Acroos the road you can get everything at a quarter of the price..
• Garrick_S (6/5): A mixed bag... - This hotel could so easily have gotten full marks were it not for some poor management. I arranged an airport transfer via the hotel. I was met inside at passport control by a man carrying a piece of paper with my name printed on it and the name of the hotel. I confirmed it was me and he then asked for my air ticket stub so that he could collect my baggage. In all of this he whisks me out of the airport where I am then handed over to another person who I then find out is the actual driver. I waited around 10 minutes and then a 3rd man brought me my suitcase and then demanded $5 for the service and after my initial refusal, I handed him $3 which made matters even worse and the driver then go involved and said I must pay him more which I flat-out refused. When I arrived at the hotel, I began to complain to the lady and gentleman at reception but they lost interest in what I was saying and it went nowhere. The service at the restaurant is very inconsistent. Waiters walk past time after time and will not offer service and then when you do get someone's attention, they fob you off onto someone else and you wait for a menu, wait for a drinks order etc etc. On the worst day, i waited 10 minutes before receiving a menu and then a further 20 minutes before the waiter returned so that I could place my order. Don't bother ordering a steak cooked any other way than well-done. Food is ok. Breakfast is weird (potato salad, spaghetti and boiled veg for breakfast??), but ok. Beautiful courtyard setting where meals are served. The room is good and everything works fine. Only issues I had with the room was the faeces on the bidet/showerhead and the noisy street. I showed the receptionist a photo of the faeces on the bidet and the response was less than overwhelming. Do not accept a room which faces the street if at all possible. Taxi's operate right outside the window from the very early hours of the morning until late at night and make a lot of noise. That being said, I would stay here again.

• VERONIQUE (2/5): RIEN DE SERIEUX. - J ai passé le plus mauvais sejour de ma vie. Il n y a pas d autres qualificatifs que l escroquerie. J avais reservé cet hotel via le site expedia et j ai payé directement la totalité de ma reservation pour 4 nuitées à 578 euros et cela 7 jours avant mon arrivée. Et j ai eu la confirmaton de ma reservation. Mais arrivée sur place, on me raconte une histoire du genre que la chambre avait ete desinfectée et qu elle ne serait prete que le lendemain a 07h, donc il me logeait pour une nuit ailleurs. J ai ete logée dans un hotel ou le courant est partie plus de 20 fois en une nuit. Mais la meilleure c est que le lendemain je me presente a l hotel Lubumbashi pour enfin occupée ma chambre mais il n y en avait pas. Toutes les chambres etaient occupees, c etait ca la realité. J ai donc attendu plus de 2 heures a la reception, pour que quelqu un libere une chambre. Finalement, je les ai demandé de me rembourser l argent pour que j aille ailleurs, mais le manager indien me demandait tjrs d attendre car il ne pouvait pas rembourser. Soit que j aille a ma reunion et la chambre serait prete a 13h alors que je l avais reservée pour la veille a 12h. Il m expliquait que c etait la faute de celui qui gere les reservatilns qui avait omis. Je suis donc allée prendre un autre hotel et 578 euros ne m ont pas ete remboursé. Il me faudrq donc entreprendre des demarches pour recuperer cet argent. Je ne pourrais jamais recommander cet hotel a quelqu un. Pas du tout serieux.
