- 926martyk (4/5): Regular Customer that Won't Be Back - My wife and I have been going to the Osthoff for their Old World Christmas Market for about 7 years now - excluding the Covid years. We make a 3-Day weekend out of it and have always enjoyed our stay until last year and now, worse, this year. The Market - The Osthoff has made it so they are the sole providers of drinks and meals. Yes, you can purchase cookies and such from vendors but actual food no longer. Gluz Winery was there until 2024 when the Osthoff decided to push their wine exclusively. We miss Gluz. I normally walked out with a case of wine. The last couple years, I think I bought one glass total. We used to enjoy sausages and other things but now it's just the Osthoff food. The food is decent, not great, but I would appreciate a variety. I miss the variety. Parking - When you reserve a room for 3-4 days you kind of expect a place to park. Not this year. I actually got into an argument with the front desk as there were no places to park. I was told I could park on the street but I'd take a chance getting a ticket. So, I'd have to go back out ( -15F outside that day) before midnight and move my car. By that time the convention and other events would be finished. The manager had me park in the fire lane with a tag in the window and they'd keep the keys. They had to move my car for an emergency around 7am so when I was ready to leave, I had no idea where my car was. Apparently conventions, weddings and other events "pay a lot of money" and are more entitled to a parking space versus someone staying overnight. Dining - Wanted to have dinner at the Concourse restaurant one evening. It was frigid cold outside and didn't want to mess around moving the car (see Parking above). Got down to the restaurant and requested a table. Dining room was about 1/3 full and no "reserved" signs on empty tables. We were told they didn't have any room unless we had made a reservation. I looked around again and looked at the host and said: "Fine, I'll give my money to someone else then." Went to Otto's, that closed at 3pm. Went to the Elk Lounge and they had music and it was packed. So, out the door we went and had a wonderful meal at the Lake Street Cafe - would highly recommend that. Room - While clean there were oddities that plagued us. Turned on the fireplace and we could barely see the fire though the foggy glass. Guess no one had cleaned that in a few years. Bathroom fan. When it wasn't running it made a clanking sound like a metal cover was opening and closing independently. Try sleeping next to that. Ended up running the bathroom fan all night, which was okay as I like the white noise to dull the children running around in the hallway. Lastly the TV kept going out. We'd come back to the room and we didn't get any stations. We got on a first name basis with Shawn from maintenance. He had to come by twice for this issue. Add all this up and I don't think we'll be spending any more time at the Osthoff. Sad as we really looked forward to this annual getaway... until 2024 and 2025.
- michellevV3874DY (10/5): Holiday Girls Weekend - A complete girls weekend filled with horse drawn wagon ride, hot cocoa, Christmas Market, and matching Jammie’s! We danced the night away in the Elk Room with delicious holiday drinks. Couldn’t be more perfect!
- cindysW6599FH (6/5): Moldy, disgusting whirlpool and sauna room. - This was our 2nd time to Osthoff. This time we had significant complaints. The rooms were not ready for check-in, it looked like many others were sitting around waiting also. The whirlpool and sauna in the South Building should have been shut down. The entire room was dripping wet including the ceiling and furniture. The phone did not work to call front desk (safety violation!) The sauna was not even on. The ceiling was dripping into the whirlpool. Things were rusty and moldy. The door was propped open with a little kid’s pair of pants. The manager came down, walked in and asked how she could help us (ridiculous.) The maintenance guy walked in, made a joke and walked out like all was great. Manager finally admitted the facility was NOT up to Osthoff standard (I would say not!) We never got to use the facility. The spa treatments have gotten outrageous ($246 for a 50-minute massage?!? The Concourse Restaurant was not too good, the service was not great. This place needs a lot of work still. Especially for the price. We left only to find out the resort double-charged us and now we are trying to reach someone in billing.
- chennilaro (10/5): Wonderful Experience - Top notch resort with a warm friendly atmosphere. The room was clean and roomy bed super comfortable. The resort is very well maintained. The view out on the lake from the Elk room lounge is gorgeous in the winter time can’t imagine it in the summer. Go check it out they offer a lot to do even in the winter!

Beautiful setting and wonderful, relaxing accommodations. The friendly area offers many activity options. This is a "must stop" on your vacation calendar. My husband and I greatly enjoy our yearly stays!
- I196XCtriciam (8/5): inconsistent messages from front desk staff; lovely hotel - I attended a conference held at the Osthoff and reserved rooms for an organizational retreat on my personal credit card, as our small organization deals only by check. When I booked the rooms, the front desk staff did not inform me that one night's stay would be charged at booking for each room. I was not aware until I received my bank statement with a $750 charge from The Osthoff. I'm all for following the rules, but the front desk staff needs to consistently make guests aware of this policy. Had I known about the immediate charge, I would have handled the booking differently. We requested early check in the day of the conference. Both rooms were not available at the same time (one was ready for early check in), therefore I checked in once for each room. Both check ins went smoothly. The first staff person simply took my credit card. The second staff person said there would be a $200 hold placed on my credit card. I feel it's important for the front desk staff to have consistent messages, especially when it deals with room charges. While our stay was lovely, this soured my opinion of the booking process.
- Theresaiscool24 (10/5): Gorgeous, classic Wisconsin stay - My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Osthoff. Our clean and spacious room had a beautiful lake view and a small kitchen, which was convenient. We liked that it was conveniently located to Road America and walkable to other points of interest in Elkhart Lake. The staff was super friendly in a genuine way and we also liked the Elk Room bar. Absolutely gorgeous property & grounds. I can’t wait to come back and try a cooking class and the spa! We didn’t have time on this trip.
- norafA7937IO (10/5): Girls Get Away - I just came back from 3 days with 6 “senior woman” and we had a wonderful experience! We did not make reservations on line. We called and spoke with Lucas who was extremely patient in explaining the accommodations and pricing and recommended the best “bang for our buck”. We then called and spoke to Kaitlyn in the spa who arranged 8 services for the 6 of us so we could all be in the spa at the same time! We met John, the general manager who was extremely friendly and helpful suggesting where to eat and what to do during our stay! A few members of our group were recovering from health issues so we were even given a golf cart ride to and from town. It’s only a few block walk, but the ride was really appreciated. We will definitely be back.

- H2461CKbethh (4/5): Another Check in Gone Wrong!! **read** - Our experience at the Osthoff was sub-par to say the least. I wish I had spent a little time reading the reviews before our departure. It amazes me how a resort that is supposed to be as prestigious as this one, has such awful reviews, most of which revolve around the customer service experience. I would highly suggest reading through the Trip Advisor reviews prior to booking your stay. Our main issue was with the check in process - which many other travelers have also experienced issues with. We had arrived in Elkhart Lake around 2:00 in the afternoon to enjoy the scenery and downtown area. Upon our arrival, we thought we would check in with the front desk to see if our room might be available sooner than 4:00. Sadly it was not, but as frequent travelers, we had expected it might not be - this was not a big issue for us. We had mentioned to the young women working the front desk that we did have dinner reservations at 5:00, and we really would appreciate the ability to check into our room promptly at 4:00 to get ready. She assured us our room would be ready by 4:00 if not earlier. She offered to text us if it was available sooner than 4:00, and mentioned we could come back for our keys, or use the App to get our room keys issued. We downloaded the app, in hopes that it would save us time. We did not get a text that our room was ready earlier, and for the life of us could not figure out how to link our reservations with the App to try to finalize our check in and get our room keys, so we headed back to the front desk at 4:00. Our room was still not ready. A different young man was working the front desk, and said we would get a text when our room was ready. We mentioned we had dinner plans at 5:00 and desperately needed to get into our room to change prior to leaving for dinner. At 4:45 we checked in with the desk again. Our room still was not ready. We shared our disappointment with the young man working and had explained the only reason we had booked the room was to allow us some time to change and get ready for our dinner plans - since we were not able to get into our room, we asked if we could cancel our room (we live only an hour away, so staying after dinner was not absolutely necessary). The young man working was completely rude to us, regarding our request, and just kept on repeating that the check in time was listed AFTER 4:00pm so we had nothing to be upset about. We explained that the young women working earlier had told us it would be ready no later than 4:00, but he insisted that there was no guarantee, and we were just out of luck - in a very rude and condescending tone. We preceded to our formal dinner plans in flannels and sweatshirts since we had no place to change. As soon as we left the parking lot of the hotel we got a text saying our room was ready (this was about 4:50) We continued to our dinner reservations - so we would not be late. This definitely put a damper on our trip, and dinner reservations, this was our anniversary dinner with friends that we had planned - and we looked like crap!! Had the young man just taken some time to look or ask while we were there, I am sure he would have seen the room was ready. It was obvious he did this after the disagreement we had, and it was far too late. Our room was OK - nothing large to complain about, it was just how our check in situation was handled, and the rudeness of the staff we encountered. Customer service skills were sub part to say the least. Check in disasters seem to be a regular thing at this resort. It is sad that their policy doesn't guarantee a check in time, and that some people don't get to their rooms until well beyond 6pm -- that is extremely late in my opinion and for the price you are paying to stay at a resort like this. You should be able to check in at 4pm - giving you ample time to enjoy the resort for the evening. Sadly, I do not think we will ever come back.

Booked online, and no where is cancellation policy stated. Tried to cancel 15 days prior to stay, and was charged $50. When asked for policy to be explained, front desk was jumbled, inarticulate, and needed to walk thru options several times. As stated, horrible, inexcusable experience. Do NOT stay there.

- M3930IIdaveh (4/5): Be aware of the Osthoff Resort's deceptive advertising - Elkhart Lake is a beautiful area to experience. The Osthoff Resort is an average plus resort located in a prime setting. Service is ok plus, rooms are ok plus, but be wary of their deceptive pricing and specials. We thought we were booking a room for a special get away for my wife and I that included a bottle of sparkling wing, chocolate covered strawberries and a $30 a day food and beverage allowance, Turns out, NOT, apparently i booked a different special online even though i was checking out on the same page of the offer. My fault, LOL! The money is not the issue, it's the deceptiveness of the advertising and the lack of the living up to the offer once i confronted them. I may go back there, but it's hard to get past deceptive advertising and lies. So if you are going to stay here, call and make the reservation and do not do it online because you will probably buy something you did not want. PS, rooms are starting to get dated, and the restaurants onsite are just ok plus. Out of 5 stars, I would rate our experience at 2.5 stars.

The little town is very charming with stores, coffee shops and an ice cream shop all within walking distance. There was also a band playing each night at the lake . We enjoyed our stay in the impeccably clean condo and will return again for a visit!

There is no designated area for the "romantic getaway" they showed in pictures. The food scene is nothing like advertised. This is an average resort in a small town (nice) priced like a big city 5 star experience.

My wife is highly allergic to mold and she had to shower in our friends room. When I checked out I asked to speak with a manager. I was called into a room. The manager was nice but wouldn’t do anything to rectify the situation. She said the person I spoke with should have offered to clean the shower with bleach. No such offer was made The manager said if we ever return she would offer a better view room if available. Quite a poor response to make us happy. Oh well. I didn’t want to make a scene and left.
- TreeHugger4 (6/5): Nice resort, some gripes - Nice resort. 2 complaints— The signs everywhere saying “only take two towels!!!” are off putting and aggressive. There should be complimentary coffee in the lobby. You have to wait in a half hour line to get coffee at the bar in the lobby in the morning. It’s inefficient and aggravating. Have carafes of free coffee and milk in the morning. That should be expected at a resort like this. Our unit did not have an AC unit in the bedroom.

The room and hallways were dated, especially on the second floor where there was no air conditioning—just stale, warm air and lingering food smells. I asked about this multiple times during our 3-night stay and didn’t hear back until the last night, with no resolution. The kitchen had sticky floors, old white appliances, and worn-out furniture and woodwork. It didn’t feel clean—definitely not up to the standards of a basic Holiday Inn Express. I even found a contact lens and chips on the floor, like it hadn’t been properly cleaned. Paper products were rough and cheap—worse than what you’d find in a school. The kitchen had no paper towels, just a few small cloths. We ended up buying our own supplies from a nearby

- jppohl (10/5): The Perfect Resort Experience - We've stayed at the Osthoff at least 20 times, and we love it as well as the town of Elkhart Lake. The facility is beautiful, the staff is terrific, the walking distance to the charming downtown is extremely convenient. Although we didn't have time to use them on this visit, the Aspira Spa and the beach are wonderful as well. For both families and couples, you can't beat the Osthoff!
- latraveller2009 (4/5): Cherished memories at Osthoff Resort, now clouded by neglect—please restore the magic! - I’ve been bringing my family to the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake for over 10 years. We love Elkhart Lake and the memories that have been created there—it’s always held a special place in our hearts. Unfortunately, our most recent stay fell far short of the standards we’ve come to expect, due to several glaring issues. First, the poor maintenance throughout the property was impossible to ignore. Our suite was outdated and many of the hallways smell like sewage. It felt like basic upkeep had been neglected for quite some time, which really detracted from what should be a premium resort atmosphere. The staff, while perhaps well-intentioned, came across as amateurish and ill-equipped to handle guest needs professionally. In the dining area, servers clearly lacked proper training - often seeming overwhelmed even during off-peak times. It was frustrating to feel like we were dealing with novices rather than seasoned hospitality pros. Overall, the hotel is in desperate need of a significant renovation to bring it up to modern standards. The dated decor, aging infrastructure, and lack of updates make it feel stuck in the past, especially given the high room rates that suggest a luxury experience. While the location on Elkhart Lake is undeniably beautiful, these shortcomings overshadowed any positives and left us disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend staying here until major improvements are made. To the Osthoff management: Please improve the service levels, cleanliness, and hopefully renovate the hotel soon so that loyal guests like us can continue making wonderful memories here.

- yojosh (10/5): Beautiful lakefront setting, the staff shine bright! - We spent a few nights at the Ostoff for a family vacation over July 4th. We've stayed once before (10-ish years ago) and it's still a wonderful place. While the rooms could use a little updating, they are roomy and comfortable. Ours had a kitchenette that was very well stocked and clean. The A/C works great (it was HOT) too. The grounds are well manicured, and the pools are kept relatively clean (there were towels thrown everywhere, but what can ya do). The highlight for us was definitely the staff. While none of the restaurants on site are exceptional, they're all easy going and the wait staff really are as kind and friendly as you can get. Special shout out to Alex in the boat/water sports area who worked his butt off to ensure ourselves and the kids were well taken care of. He really is a superstar! Thanks Ostoff for a really fun weekend.

The process of checking in was never explained to us. The app for the hotel is useless. The rooms are nice, the suite we stayed in was clean (except for balcony) and spacious, but furniture was worn and scratched, and needs some update.

- K3070SYkristenr (6/5): Good stay but beware of the misinformation! - My husband and I stayed at the Osthoff recently and we were pleasantly surprised with the room. Based on the photos online, I expected the room to be much more outdated. And the big jetted tub was nice as well. However, you can tell housekeeping doesn’t touch the balcony. There was a very obvious pile of toenail clippings on the balcony, as well as someone else’s chapstick and tons of spiderwebs with multiple huge spider webs all over the balcony. The next (and probably biggest issue) is the times that are posted all over their website, the app, and the information pamphlet we got from the front desk all said the Lake Deck restaurant closes at 10. The Saturday we were there they had live music and we purposely held off on dinner and decided to eat late based on the information we were given. So at 9pm we went down to the Lake Deck and they said they were closed. The weather was nice, so it was not weather related. They just said they close at 9pm. And at that time of night nothing else around there is open either. So we ended up having snacks in our room for dinner. Very disappointing. Then the next morning we went down to the front desk and asked the lady there what time the Lake Deck closes tonight. Her response was “I don’t really know. Probably like 9 or 10…. Or maybe it’s even 11. Yeah I don’t know. Sorry.” Then proceeded to pick up the phone that started ringing….Huh??? Why is one incorrect time posted all over the place and even the workers don’t know (and aren’t willing to find out). We were very turned off by this and ended up not having a single meal at the resort because we didn’t know what information to trust. Lastly, we were double charged for a few things when we checked out. But we noticed it and they were able to take care of it quickly. Overall, it was a decent stay. The property is beautiful, live music was fun, and the rooms were nice. However, between the toenail clippings on the patio, huge spider webs, the last guests chapstick, wrong times posted for food options, and the double charge I just can’t justify the price. I’m glad we tried it, but unfortunately we don’t feel a strong urge to come back.

We enjoyed golf (excellent fish fry and great golf course - glacier 9 was picturesque- even saw deer), walked to farmers market in town Sat morning. The lake was the clearest lake I’ve ever seen. Awesome sand beach for the kids and a bar and concession right there as well. If you walk down the path there are 2 more hotels and a cool tiki bar with live music outdoors. The Osthoff also had great music in the elk room. Also loved walking to the ice cream shop in town every night after dinner. Great Memorial Day weekend at the Osthoff - we will be back!!

- 626christyn (2/5): Beware Construction Noise! - We were not informed that roofing construction was taking place when we booked a long weekend stay for the family. Very loud, consistent hammering every single day. We looked out our window at 9 AM on Sunday, the workers were looking right into our rooms as they worked on the shingles of the roof overhang for the floor below. Awful! Not the peaceful getaway we were hoping for! Expected a lot more considering the price we paid for the two bedroom unit.

The room description didn't mention a whirlpool tub. That is a very welcome surprise. Some construction was happening, but was easily forgettable with the service and atmosphere. Only downside was Otto was closed and Concourse menu didn't have what I was looking for.

- S1369GEjenniferl (6/5): Underwhelming - We recently stayed at the Osthoff Resort and it was underwhelming. I’ve seen so many positive reviews and heard such good things that we decided to spend a couple well-deserved nights away from home. If you’re looking for a luxury resort experience, don’t stay here. Its spa is rumored to be wonderful, and it should be for the prices they charge. The services we looked at were about twice the going rate elsewhere, so we decided to skip that. But it’s the only reason I might recommend visiting. I will start by praising the employees, who were kind, respectful, and helpful. I liked several things about our room. It was clean – or it appeared to be at least. The jacuzzi tub was wonderful, and it was great being able to open the patio door for air. When we arrived, our room was 76 degrees Fahrenheit (in April), and we needed it to be about 8 degrees cooler to sleep. So, opening that door to let cooler air in was essential. I can’t imagine what it’s like in summer. They had some great-tasting gourmet candy in the gift shop, which is open 24 hours a day. It was mostly quiet. They have room service. They only provide housekeeping upon request, so we didn’t have to actively avoid housekeeping, so that was great. And it’s better for the environment. Now on to my criticism. The room looked like it was decorated decades ago and hasn’t been updated recently. The bed was average, not great or awful. No robes or slippers were provided, and though the jacuzzi tub was nice, we had to bring our own bath bombs/salts. They were not provided, though at other comparable (at least by reputation) places we have stayed, they provided bath salts every day and provided robes and slippers. The toilet did not have a light by it, so we had to rely on lighting from other parts of the bathroom. It would have been nice to control each light in the bathroom separately. The toilet paper was awful. Bring your own. Though it was mostly quiet, the resort is in a residential area, so you can hear lots of things from the neighbors, which for us involved a dirt bike race. Room service closes at 8 pm, and the times we would use room service are past 8 pm. There are supposedly mobile ways to check in and check out, but these weren’t functional. I know these criticisms sound small and come from a place of privilege. I am not comparing this to chain hotels that we’ve stayed at, like H2 by Hilton. We know what to expect when we go there and love the funky decorations and atmosphere. I might have even preferred that to the Osthoff, were it not for the jacuzzi tub. But this was to be a splurge to relax and enjoy. Other places with the same price point and reputation as the Osthoff have the previously mentioned amenities and more. If I were to sum up our experience in a word, it would be underwhelming.

It was nice to have a suite with a kitchen dining room and fireplace. Overall I was disappointed in the food.

- SeniorTravelerTF (6/5): Did not live up to its reputation - Note that this is written in January when the tourist and resort season is at low ebb in Wisconsin. Almost nobody at this huge facility, in fact the restaurants are on diminished hours due to the season. Clearly could be a different experience during car race weeks and summer. Although we had booked a one bedroom unit, we were called three hours prior to arrival and told that our condition of non-connecting rooms could not be met, but the management graciously agreed to move us to a two bedroom at the same cost. Heard about this place for years and decided we deserved a couple of days at one of the best (by reputation) in the state. Facility was much more than a hotel room, with fireplace, stove, refrigerator (with ice maker), micro and dishwasher. Very small sitting/living room, with one of two easy chairs with two broken legs. One bedroom had light and dark curtains, the other only a vision shade that did not keep out light in the morning. Tried to use the whirlpool in the evening and there was a “closed” sign on it. No message in the room or at the desk, who knew nothing about it. Not sure what the thermostats in each area of the condo did since they were set to 60 yet it was plenty warm. Adjusting did not seem to have any effect. Since it as winter and warm enough in our rooms, and we could crack the window to cool off, it wasn’t enough of a concern, but it maybe something to ask at the desk when you check in. The stay started off on the wrong foot. When we checked in the clerk asked for our car info, make/model/year/color/license. I knew all but the license and when I asked if there were a lot of my make/model/year/color that would make me a target for towing, I was told “you would be surprised”. Given that there were maybe 30 total cars in the lot, none even the same make, it was just a non-customer friendly way of enforcing some archaic middle of the summer or wedding party full house. Other receptionists courteous with a greeting each time we entered or left.

- 398zachz (6/5): Christmas ambience at a max with a little discomfort - This is our second year going to The Osthoff for the Christmas Market and it was a great experience. The market is excellent and the hotel is decked out in Christmas charm. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the events for adults and kids are wonderful. The reason for the 3 star review is the bed was wildly uncomfortable. A king mattress that is likely past the replacement time period as the hills and valleys in it would make the state of Nebraska jealous. For the amount of people in and out of the rooms it would also appear furniture isn't moved often for cleaning purposes as I made the mistake of letting my daughter throw my keys under the couch which forced me to go find it. The year prior the room we stayed in had a smoke detector in the bedroom flashing it's bright white light all night long, and the best I could manage was to rig a washcloth over it to try to sleep. For over $300 a night it's perhaps worth a daytime visit for the experiences and not worth an overnight stay.
- G2254YJjanes (4/5): Parking nightmare! - The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, the tree in the lobby was stunning, and the Old-World Christmas Market was great. However, the parking sucked. Having a room reservation does not entitle you to a parking spot in their lot, due to all the people attending the Christmas Market. It's clear they set up the Market in a parking area and lost parking spots, so we had to wait for someone to leave a hotel parking spot or park on the street. We were told the parking issues would subside after the Market closed at 5. Based on that info, we left the hotel for the evening and came back to find only parking available on the street, where you can't park overnight. The staff then told us they had an arrangement with the police so it wouldn't be a problem. When we expressed our frustration, as another did customer while we were at the front desk, they were able to somehow find us both a close parking spot. None of this seemed to surprise the staff. When you spend that kind of money for a room, parking should be an afterthought, not an 1-2 block walk. We will not stay here again.
- 108kenr (10/5): Great Family Trip - We go over Thanksgiving for 4 days with our family. We always have a wonderful time in our suite. The resort is a great place to go with family. They have everything you need right on site: pool restaurants and plenty of things to do. There is also a lot of things to do in the area without having to drive far. Overall this is a great place to stay.

Heavy doors, no safety bars or seat in large showers which could easily accommodate them. The benches in locker rooms are very low and difficult for elderly and handicapped. The population is getting older and needs a bit of help!

The spa was wonderful and the food in the onsite restaurant was excellent! One of the best steaks I’ve had.
