I can’t really fault it other than the size of the rooms which are a little small, but then it is a motel. Definitely a great option for Montauk.

• joshaP1099YQ (10/5): Amazing location, well maintained facilities, and perfect for families. - I don't normally write reviews, but we had such a good time on our recent stay at Daunt's that I thought it was only fitting that I share our great experience. As a family of four it can get quite expensive to stay in Montauk for a week. We chose Daunt's for it's location and for the kitchenette. We made most breakfast and lunches either in the room or at the poolside grill, which is in excellent condition. This saved us a ton of money and also kept us by the pool, which is where we wanted to be. The staff are incredibly friendly and always available. The motel and the restaurant across the street, Bird on the Roof, seem to be owned by the same people. They gave us a $20 coupon to dine there for breakfast and I will say it's one of the better breakfasts I've had in Montauk. Pool was fantastic. While we take a trip to the "beach" every year, we tend to stay by the pool and we were not disappointed. Everything was clean and well maintained. At night, they have two fire pits where they burn real wood, the smell is really amazing. We used the pits for s'mores an two occasions. I've stayed in quite a few places across Montauk, from the Beach House, Guerney's, Kenny's to a few others as well. This ranks at my top due to it's renovated rooms, nice kitchenettes, great pool, nice grill, and laid back atmosphere. and of course, it's great location. Beds are full size so if you're used to sharing a king with your significant other, you'll have some adjusting to do. but well worth it in the end.

Absolutely make reservations at the Bird on the Roof directly across the street from Daunt’s Albatross, great food and vibes. Daunt’s delivers, comfortable beds, great water pressure, great towels, cleaning crew does a great job. Would definitely return.

• WilliamG3515 (10/5): Perfect place to get away to Daunt's Albatross 🕊 - We had an amazing time! It was my husband's 65th bday. I can't say enough about how absolutely fantastic the staff were! I phoned the day before arrival to ask them to put a 6pack of budlights as a surprise for my husband and as asked the did, but the placed a card with my name and our pets and signed it "ruff ruff" which for us was beyond kind. I asked for recommendations from Michelle and she sent us in the right direction. The hotel/ grounds are kept immaculate. I highly recommend staying at this awesome place. OH and their restaurant across the street Bird on the roof, the food is delish! We are already planning our return! 💜🐾

• kevverh (10/5): A Montauk Gem - I was delighted with the experience at Daunt's. Everything was seamless, from check-in to check-out. Particularly loved the tasteful decoration of the room - the stone flooring, colorful bathroom tile, vintage wooden dresser and tables. It felt very contemporary and stylish. Very comfortable bed. The little courtyard with fire pits was very nice to sit around in the evening, enjoyed being able to socialize a little bit with other guests. Did not use the pool area but peeked at it and it looked very well maintained and set up with loungers etc. The location can't be beat, a couple of minutes walk to the beach/shops. Bird on the Roof restaurant across the street was very good. Would absolutely stay again.
• dstanisch (8/5): Overall a great stay - Overall a wonderful stay. My wife and I stayed with our infant this past weekend and the staff overall was great except for minor interaction with the clean staff. Room cleaning seemed to be on a different schedule by the day (not a issue). However one of the afternoons, we had a somewhat hostile, quick conversation and were told to "hurry up" and leave our room so it could be cleaned. Definitely not something that was expected and left a sour taste. Other than that, only great things to say about the Albatross and its restaurant Bird on the Roof. We cannot recommend the restaurant enough. The food, drinks, atmosphere and service were all top notch. Having an infant, we are somewhat on a set schedule at night and our room was equipped with a white noise machine I can assume is used by guests at night while others are free to converse at the nighttime bonfires right outside the rooms. It was a nice touch that we weren't expecting.
• 89mahsak (6/5): Over-Priced and moldy - I had a standard room and a suite was traveling with family. #5 and #8 actual rooms are a lot older than in photos, paint in bathroom is chipped, lots of rust and horrible smell of mold which sticks to your clothes. no vanity items are available even for purchase. I paid 2400 dollars for 2 nights extremely overpriced for what it was. It would be OK for half of what I paid. Location was close to beach, the restaurant is great but hotel is across from laundromat which I didn't like. staff was very friendly.

• ChristinaKRN (6/5): It’s okay…” - It is a bit of a hit or a miss with Daunt’s. Very inconsistent. We usually stay here during the off season as the place we prefer is closed during this time. I had a couple of odd experiences here though. First weird experience was in March 2023. The housekeeper kept peeking in our room. I closed the curtains and maybe like 15 minutes later she opened the door and came right into our room without knocking insisting we were due to leave. My husband explained we were booked until the next day and she kept insisting we weren’t. Then she left. We never complained. She never came back. I guess she realized she was wrong. In December of 2023, everything was pretty perfect. Our room was light and airy, very clean. The Christmas decorations outside were beautiful. Everything was wonderful. Then in February of 2024, we got the worst room imaginable. It’s the off season and I can’t imagine they are booked solid but this room was dingy and had a bad vibe. I can’t explain it, but I didn’t feel relaxed and content. I felt uneasy during my stay. The room smelled like cigarettes and on the back deck there was a glass cup filled with cigarette butts. We did tell the front desk about the cigarettes. She apologized and removed the glass. I should have asked for a different room, but didn’t want to make trouble. To make for a creepier stay, the housekeepers’ cart was parked outside our window with a big knife out in the open on top of it. The door had to be aligned perfectly to lock, and it felt that someone could just barge in the door if they wanted. Needless to say we were creeped out. I wanted to ask for a room change, but didn’t want to be a complainer. In retrospect, I should have. Overall, we will most likely take our chances and come back next fall/winter. We do love the court yard and the igloos set up for winter. Christmas decorations were beautiful too. I wish the place was more consistent because we want to really like it. Sadly, there aren’t many options in Montauk off season, and that’s our favorite time to visit.

• jacob (10/5): Excellent upgraded motel - This is a great small family owned motel right in town in Montauk. The rooms are all recently renovated with eclectic furniture, high end parachute bed lines, in room microwave & fridge. We stayed in the standard queen, which is on the smaller side but has a small table and chairs, dresser & plenty of space for 2 people. The bathrooms have a large stand up shower & public goods bath products. The pool deck is large (but closed for winter in April). Our favorite part was the courtyard area with Adirondack chairs, fire pits & heated igloos. Walkable to everything in town and to the beach. All the staff were super nice. Head across the street to their restaurant Bird on the Roof.

They made sure I was taken care of even though I was arriving after the front desk closed for the evening. The level of service they offer should cost a lot more than it does. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. And the location couldn’t be better! One block of the main drag and a block from the beach! I can’t wait to come back and stay longer!

• O6352WJdianet (8/5): Great location - Great location. Bird on the roof was excellent. Nice pool area but a dog was using the pool. Front desk guy was great.Had bicycles for guests. Close to lighthouse and camp Hero. Rooms are very small but clean.

Room was noisy - we were woken up at 7.30am by our neighbour speaking loudly on the phone outside our door on the landing. Couldn’t open patio doors as downstairs were smoking weed and it stank out the whole room. I had read that this was recently renovated but our room needed a paint and the hole in the wall filling in. So overall, was just OK for me. Close to Main Street and the ocean. Didn’t use pool as rained but looked good.

• Verified traveler (8/5): End of summer overnight retreat - A bit overpriced for a motel as to be expected in the summer in Montauk. The room was adequate but the floor was stone that felt like you were walking out on the sidewalk. Could have used a few area rugs under your feet. They did give us some cash cards to use in the restaurant across the street which was actually very good. My husband had a beer and a snack which was totally paid for and we had a nice breakfast which we only paid half price for. I would stay there again but probably in the off season when the prices drop since we live on Long Island.

• patriciawK2458YI (10/5): Great Redone Motel with a Relaxed Beachy Vibe - We went for a family wedding in early June and had three rooms for three nights in June.We did not have a rental car, so we wanted to stay somewhere close to the town of Montauk. I was apprehensive about the motel as we are use to bigger hotels with a lot of amenities but we really enjoyed our stay, We had a King room, a room with two doubles and a queen room. The King room and the two doubles were both great. The redo was done very nicely and decorated with a sparse beachy theme. Sometimes this works, and other times it doesn't. Here, in my opinion, it does. The queen room was quite small and did not get good light at all. I'm not sure if that was unique to that room or all queen rooms. Had I seen it the first night, I would have tried to move my son. In my opinion, in this case, the extra for the king would be worth it. But the bed was still comfortable, the room well decorated and like all rooms, spotless. We spent one day out at the pool area and it was quite nice. I was expecting a small tight pool since we were so close to town but it wasn't at all. Nice lounge chairs, an open feel and a large enough pool. It (and the rooms) were spotless. We enjoyed the fire pit at night which gave my group a place to gather and chat in the evening. We also enjoyed bird on a roof every morning for breakfast and one evening for drinks. It was a great edition and we would often meet others from the wedding party who were not staying at the hotel at Bird on the Roof. All enjoyed it. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to Montauk!

• 1009ald (10/5): A must place to stay when visiting Montauk, NY - My wife and I stayed at Daunts Albatross between May 30 - June 2, 2023. We had stayed here previously, several times, as had my wife’s parents, but this was our first visit since the renovations. From the first call to book our stay (Claudine was amazing), to the morning we checked out, everything we experienced was exceptional. Our room (the two room suite) was clean, simply but nicely furnished and was a tremendous upgrade since our last stay (pre-renovations). Considerable thought clearly went into updating the property while still maintaining a casual and welcoming vibe that Montauk has long been known for. The carpeted floors have all been replaced with stone (a wise decision in a beach community) and the bathroom was nicely updated with an amazing shower. The beds were comfortable and the linens of nice quality. The sense of welcome and attention to detail from every staff member we came in contact with was outstanding. The housekeeper (Savina ?) was pleasant, accommodating and excellent at all that she did during our stay. There were staff visible throughout each day and all were pleasant and attentive. The pool area was spa like. It has also been upgraded with nice patio furniture, landscaping, an outdoor grill and oven and even an area for yoga. There were fire pits in the courtyard each night and unlike other guests that complained about noise, that was never a concern and the fires were extinguished at 10 pm nightly in deference to all guests. The property is dog friendly and each day we were greeted by Koda, the resident retriever. While not directly on the beach, Daunts is a one block walk to the sand and surf of Montauk. Daunts has taken over Bird on the Roof restaurant and also upgraded that property (physically and with a new menu). We visited for happy hour, breakfast and late evening drinks / small plates and each visit was better than the last. The offerings are varied, the food quality excellent and the presentation really nicely done. As with Daunts, the staff at “The Bird” are pleasant, attentive and welcoming. Shout out to Sophia, Brianna and our favorite… Malcolm, for making us feel like we were family while visiting. Thanks to Leo, Zoey and the entire staff at Daunts and The Bird. You are clearly continuing the tradition of a comfortable and welcoming getaway location that your parents and grandparents started many years ago. We can’t wait to come back… see you all soon!
• Happiness56118012134 (10/5): Our favorite home away from home - Leo and his staff are welcoming and accommodating. We have been staying at Daunts for about 30 years. When the older generation Daunt Family owned and ran it. It's always been a comfortable and affordable vacation . It has been updated in the last couple of years, and still has the same charm. Daunt's is the best place to stay in Montauk.

• 55emilyj (4/5): Very much a motel, but convenient and close to the beach - We stayed here in December on a couples trip. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the location very convenient to the beach, but we were somewhat surprised at the property given the elegance of the website and photos. It’s a (clean and well run!) motel—not a designer boutique hotel, as we had initially thought. That’s on us, but sharing just so visitors can adequately set expectations. If you are expecting a motel, you should be very happy here—again, it’s clean, convenient, and has a fun bohemian aesthetic (for a motel). But if you are expecting boutique hotel, you will be disappointed. The rooms are sparse (floors are concrete, there was minimal space to sit other than the bed), and decor, while great for a motel, is wanting given what’s shown on the website. We did stay over the holidays, but also found the room to be loud. On the positive side, parking is free, and although very few restaurants were open and no food available on property in the off season, there was a convenience store and a handful of year round restaurants within east walking distance. The rates were fair, and while we would not return, I think this would still be a great budget conscious stay for a different kind of visitor.

• Itsavayall (10/5): More than a motel - I traveled solo to Montauk in the off season in February because I had a couple of gigs - I’m a musician. Daunt’s is super chill and couldn’t be more comfortable. I felt very safe, the room was clean and the shower was really nice. I appreciated the subtle details like a dimmer on the lights, bathroom fan, and above all the noise maker. I honestly didn’t want to leave! This is a great family run business, totally unpretentious and within walking distance to several shops, restaurants and the beautiful beach. I hope I’ll be back! Thank you for a great stay.
• amesadventures (10/5): Winter Staycation - We had the best winter staycation at Daunts! The rooms were spotless, the fire pits were cozy & we could walk to the beach and to town! This was the perfect weekend getaway. We loved having the kitchen and the balcony. This is definitely Montauk’s best kept secret!

• MW117C (8/5): Perfect Location! - The hotel is right in town--you don't need to move your car to stroll through town, eat at a great restaurant, or go to the beach. The staff is very friendly, including the resident dog who hangs out in the office. The rooms are clean, though we did have an issue with where to put stuff. There aren't enough hooks in the bathroom and there is zero surface space in the bathroom to put your toiletries. While the futon does provide a seating area, I think guests would prefer a small table in that area, so we could eat or use the table for toiletries. The fire pits and the overall outdoor aesthetic is fantastic.

Newly renovated, great location and the firepits in the courtyard are awesome. The bathroom was HUGE (and probably could've used the space a little better) and the bed super comfortable. The fire pit was such a nice touch in the evenings and they have you s’more packs every night so you could sit around and make s’mores which was so cute. It was cute and trendy and incredibly close to both the beach and downtown so just a perfect location. They also gave a $20 gift card to the restaurant across the street at check in, which basically covers one entree but was an unexpected touch. Especially since they don’t offer breakfast to provide a voucher for a breakfast was smart!

Weather did not permit us to enjoy the fire pits and bicycles, but we still had a fabulous time! Daunt’s was clean, friendly service and the perfect location for all we wanted to do! We appreciated the credit for Bird on a Roof and were pleasantly surprised with the breakfast! We can’t wait to return and perhaps bring Fido!!
• Wander621902 (10/5): Great little Montaut hotel, resonable price! - All the rooms are newly renovated, and so tastefully done! The bed was so comfortable. Right across from the beach. The staff was always available and very friendly. Little things like the s'mores kits to use in their courtyard firepits are the things that make memories for the kids! We were a group of 14, including six kids. There was always ample room at the pool and surrounding tables. 2 minute walk into town. Wonderful experience, hope we can do it every year!

• Joseph De (2/5): - The "maintenance guy" came in at 12am un announced. Just opened the door and walked in. I had to chase him out as he was not in uniform and smelled like alcohol and pot smoke. Needless to say it was a sleepless night after that. Called the front desk to verify this guy was actually maintenance, no answer and no way to leave a message. Called back the next day several times. Same, no answer. This place is bad news.

The beds were extremely comfortable, bath amenities were great, and the fire pit was a great place to hang after a long beach day. Highly recommend!

• Marc (8/5): Location, location and a wonderful bargain - Let's get the negatives out of the way first. The in-room furniture is basically the same stuff I might have bought in a low-end thrift shop when I was in college 50 years ago and used it non-stop since. The bathroom is tiny and the towels, well they might have been new when the furniture was new and are clearly intended for a very small person. Now to the positives. The Albatross is just a short walk from the ocean and an equally short walk from downtown Montauk (such as it is). If you're averse to sand and waves, there's a pool. The bed was surprisingly comfortable given the furniture, and the shower terrific. If you're planning a longer stay (we were there for just one night) and didn't want to eat out every night, they've got gas grills and picnic tables in the courtyard. If you're not looking for lux and are packing your own towels, you'll not find a better place to stay in Montauk.

The staff was also very nice. However, the room had some issues. The walls were paper thin, you can here everything going on in both rooms next to mine. One night, tv was so loud in the room next door, couldn't get to sleep at all. Other night, some people came back around 1am and was able to hear everywhere word they were saying. The bathroom had issues. The toilet was leaking, pudding . We notified hotel staff, however no action was taken. We had to use hotel towels to mop and keep the leak controlled. The bathroom desperately needed some anti mold solution, there was mold growing around the door frame, a simple bleaching and scrubbing would have worked here.
