Guest Reviews
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Ethan (9/5): -
- Louise (6/5): The accommodation was comfortable in need of an upgrade . - Comfortable The room was very dark the lighting was inadequate.
Couldn’t get all the tv channels
- Karl Dontel James Woods (10/5): A beautiful, peaceful place with friendly staff, spotless accommodation, and great facilities. - After a long drive from Kent, we finally arrived at The Ullswater at Whitbarrow Village around 7:30 p.m. — much later than planned. Despite our late arrival, check-in was easy and welcoming. The lovely lady at reception greeted us warmly, provided a map of the village, explained the facilities, and gave us a QR code to book activities, which was really helpful. It immediately set the tone for the rest of our stay.
From the moment we arrived, we noticed how beautifully maintained and well-presented the grounds were. Everything felt spotless, tidy, and cared for, with lovely landscaping and a peaceful atmosphere. The site has a calm, village-like feel, with a mixture of private residences and guest accommodation, which makes it feel relaxed, safe, and homely. Even though there was some maintenance work happening nearby, it was incredibly quiet — a real testament to how well-managed the property is.
The staff were genuinely warm, approachable, and attentive throughout our stay. Our first-floor apartment was spacious, bright, and modern, with thoughtful touches and a real sense of comfort. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed for a self-catering break, including a hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, and dishwasher. The living space was comfortable and stylish, with plenty of natural light and a glass dining table that didn’t make the room feel cramped.
A highlight was the balcony, which overlooked open fields where sheep and ducks often wandered — a lovely view to enjoy with a morning coffee. The bathroom was large and spotless, with dual sinks, strong water pressure, and consistently hot water.
The facilities are excellent, including a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub, and even a cinema room with Netflix and Disney+. The attention to detail throughout the property really stood out — everything felt inviting, relaxing, and well cared for. It’s the perfect place to unwind. The sign from the main road wasn’t illuminated, so it was a little easy to miss when arriving after dark. Reception closed early on two evenings due to staffing shortages, which meant we couldn’t make use of the bar or restaurant, but they did let us know by text. Neither issue affected how much we enjoyed our stay.
- Mohammed (9/5): Very good as usual. - It’s well set for a self catering break. We also like the peace and the spa facilities. It would be good to have an upgraded TV, so we can use our fire stick. Also so its a better quality too.
For me personally, i’d love it if they brought the putting greens back.
- Guest (10/5): -
- Tee (8/5): It was good - All was ok
- thomas (10/5): All you want. Very convenient -
- Judith (9/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): Perfect loved our stay - The leisure facilities The bed was too small and the room could do with more lighting
- Stockwell (10/5): Lovely room lovely location excellent for bike riding - Jacuzzi and sauna
- Val (9/5): Beautiful setting - Beautiful setting. Lovely accomodation. The pool looked ok, but unfortunately, I caught a cold, so I didn't use it. The lighting in the room was poor. Not enough to read by or knit. The double bed is now a bit small. Most folks have larger beds nowadays.
- Jules (8/5): Great base for 3 days in the Lake District - Spacious, well appointed room with countryside view Shower could be newer. Bed could be wider.
- TL (10/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): - Staff were fantastic and the suite was perfect. Restaurant was shut for 2 out of the 4 days we were there. We weren't made aware of this before we arrived.
- woollard (10/5): - Beautiful location easy access.facilities excellent especially the pool. Food very good also staff very friendly.
- Catherine (8/5): -
- Debra (8/5): - Studio bigger than expected Lighting. It's a shame the reading lamp cannot be used in isolation from the main lights for a more relaxed ambience
- Mike (8/5): -
- James (10/5): Second stay - The quietness. The Restaurant and bar so no need to drive out, a great place, No dislikes
- Marie (10/5): We had another wonderful week at Whitbarrow Village, the staff, facilities and location were outstanding as always, can’ - It is well maintained and presented, there are great facilities and the location is beautiful. All of the staff are welcoming and helpful. Our bed was a little uncomfortable but didn’t spoil our stay. The restaurant wasn’t open all week.
- Nicola (10/5): - Lovely place and great location. Staff were really helpful Nothing
- Joan (6/5): -
- Rebecca (7/5): Really nice. Good value place to stay. - The location is very good. The electric car charger was a massive bonus. The apartment was well equipped and the pool and facilities were well maintained and clean. Stunning views. We had a lovely week overall. The restaurant wasn’t very good. Ok, but not worth the money. No idea why the developers went for double beds when there’s ample room for a king size bed. Mattress wasn’t the most comfortable. No spatula in the kitchen and the frying pan was wonky. We cleaned up the cobwebs ourselves so cleaning may not be done brilliantly.
- Rutkowska (8/5): -
- Gail (7/5): Pleasant but we wouldn’t revisit. - The ability to self cater for not main meals, the space, the view.
Convenience for Keswick and Ullswater although you need a car.
Staff were lovely. We have stayed many times before. We feel the ethos has changed and it is less ‘hotel’ and more ‘air B&B’ with a business model of developing and selling luxury lodges on adjacent land. The lovely restaurant had opening times limited to evening. It used to serve breakfast. There is a lovely Coffee lounge but coffee is from a reception machine and when we tried to enter a lady, who was selling the luxury lodges said ‘can I help you’ with an air of a private meeting. Everyone else was perched on a few bar stools overlooking the pool.
Our room was clean but tired. The same decor as a decade ago, although other rooms appeared to be renovated, presumably by new owners.
We enjoyed our stay but won’t go back.
- Patrick (4/5): - Situation in terms of views On booking.com it was clearly listed as "adult
only." This was a key reason for my booking, as
was seeking a peaceful, child-free environment.
However, during my stay, there were numerous
children present throughout the suites and hotel, including in communal areas and leisure facilities. This directly contradicted the listing and significantly
affected the experience I expected and paid for.
I believe this amounts to a misrepresentation of
the property on your platform. I was told the suite was privately owned. It didnt say so on the site and makes little difference to my concern.
Disappointing.
look forward to your response. I will not be recommending to my peers.
Kind regards,
Patrick
- Rael (8/5): Very good -
- Darci (8/5): Picturesque, cozy, little village apartments, hidden in the lake district. - Clean & cozy with lots of facilities available and shops like Sainsbury’s and M&S just a stones throw away. No oven but we were able to work around this using the hob. Main staff were friendly and professional :) Sometimes you can hear the people in the suites above you, which didn’t disturb me, but my partner is a light sleeper so it’s worth bearing in mind. It would’ve been lovely to have an oven but again not a big issue. We mainly used this as a base camp to go out and explore the lakes so I feel we probably paid a bit much for somewhere to sleep, but if you’re going to make the most of it by using the pool, bar, restraint, gym etc then I feel it’s fairly good value for money & overall not too expensive anyway
- Deehan (8/5): Very good - Pool, gym, location, atmosphere.
- Sean (6/5): Lovely place...staff are nice and friendly location is beautiful rooms are comfortable.....refurb ne - Love the hotel itself...the location, the spa facilities, the rooms are really nice and comfortable Restaurant opening times and actual availability for ordering food to your room was quite a big let down....asked at reception what we could do for food as it was after 5pm and the restaurant was fully booked (6 people sitting in it) to be told there was a vending machine...nearest civilisation was penrith 8.2miles away...
- Thomas (8/5): Beautifully located apartments with a view - The location is conveniently centred around Lake District so drives were leisurely. Spacious apartments with what you expect (amenities such as cooking equipment, living area, balcony etc), and decent facilities within walking distance (restaurant, bar, games room, mini golf etc) Checking-in was smooth, but getting our bags to the room was a hassle (parking the car at reception area then moving the car to the designated car park), our keycard for the room didn’t work multiple times (one occasion after a hike, we were exhausted and wanted to rest and then had this issue), bathroom was a bit worn and tired, deposit needed before checking in (no information was displayed EASILY for any normal person to see).
- Newman (9/5): It was comfortable - N/A The lighting in the roomit was comfortable
- Geoffrey (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable - Facilities were excellent. All good
- Rose (1/5): Awful because they did not provide accessible suite we paid for, so had to book elsewhere. - Advertised as wheelchair friendly but the suite was not. Too much furniture to move around in wheelchair, large step onto balcony, and no grab rails in bathroom. Accessible toilet in main reception filled with inflatables from the swimming pool.
- Anonymous (7/5): Adequate - The room No wifi in my room for the whole week. I needed it so had to pay for extra data from my provider. I thought it would be included with my room cost.
The car park is too far from the room. You cant just nip out to grab something that youckeep in the car.
- Nuela (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed being there. - Facilities location grounds restaurant entertainment all excellent. NOT at all happy about a £100 deposit being demanded! Aged over 60! I have traveled extensively around the world and have only ever come across once in Ibiza. Never ever expected it in the UK.
- Robert (8/5): Clean, well presented, comfortable self catering apartment - The room was nicely decorated, bed and pillows were good. Kitchen was well equipped. I thought the room looked nicer than depicted on photographs. The bathroom door has a row of naturally formed interesting faces across it.
We didn't eat at the restaurant or use the pool, but the pool did look nice. The lounge/bed/kitchen areas are all one room with patio doors leading to a pleasant outside sitting area with a balcony above. Unfortunately the lack of natural light leaves the room very dark. There were several lamps around the room but unfortunately it was still gloomy. We mentioned this at reception and they said they planned to improve the lighting.
- Anonymous (10/5): Lovely, peaceful break. - Well maintained. Lovely apartment and facilities. N/A
- Christopher (6/5): Good - Its great location and quiet, The fact that the bar & restaurant was closed on the Wednesday & Thursday was very disappointing to be honest. Only reason I didn’t give it a higher score out of 10.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Beds very uncomfortable
- Leon (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. Very relaxing place Nothing
- Christine (8/5): Happy stay - Great position friendly helpful staff
- Archie (6/5): Made best of the time away - Staff were good Bar / restaurant shut 3 nights of the week we visited.Steam room didn’t work. Post code for location took us to a farm. Building was a bit tired in places .
- Alistair (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (7/5): Good - The property was situated in a really nice area and had amazing views.
- Julie-ann (10/5): Great place to stay in a beautiful room. - The room was great, clean, lots of space for all our belongings, the kitchen had everything you needed to make your meals, the bed was so comfy and the view was beautiful. The grounds are immaculate, staff so helpful, I fractured my ankle on the way down a mountain and needed a wheelchair, my husband weren’t to the reception to ask if they had any local numbers for hiring and the hotel loaned me their’s which was a godsend. Great facilities. We will definitely be back. Nothing
- Dawn (9/5): lovely stay. - We loved the location & our room was lovely & spacious. The restaurant was also lovely & the pool area great too.
All staff in every area were really friendly & very helpful.
Also I sent balloons & banner ahead for the room to be decorated on arrival, which was done excellently! our balcony was quite grubby & the wood was rotten!
Also the bed was really comfortable but quite small, there was plenty of space, could easily accomodate a kingsize bed. But we used the sofa bed too, so it was fine. So the balcony was the only part of our room that was disappointing really.
Also the restaurant was great & the staff really lovely, however the full menu wasn't available so that was a bit of a let down!
The holiday village could also benefit from a little convenience shop too as the nearest supermarket is around 10miles away.
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - Good quality accommodation and very well located An oven would
Be better than a dish washer
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (9/5): It was lovely and relaxing - It was lovely and quiet. The Ullswater suites are very spacious. The whole site is lovely and clean The bar / restaurant was only open for 2 days during our stay. So due to the site being remote one of us had to drive, when going out for an evening meal.
- Duncan (9/5): Superb -
- Gayle (9/5): Very enjoyable - Self catered accommodation
- Fatma (8/5): Very good -
- Chrisc63 (9/5): Weekend break - Location, facilities, and value for money Opening times for the restaurant and bar, i.e., first night only just managed a table for food, but that was for 6-30 and the bar closed at 8 pm. The next day, they stopped serving food at 4 pm, and the bar closed at 6 pm,so we had to drive out looking for a place to eat.
Poor lighting I the bathroom.
- John (4/5): Comfortable accommodation but not value for money - Comfortable accommodation in nice grounds. Apartments were not as clean as they could be; restaurant and bar often closed despite it being advertised as open; pool & spa is unfinished and dirty in places. It seems the sale of the luxury lodges they are building is prioritised over guests.
- Paige (2/5): Very poor -
- Nicholas (8/5): A very good base for exploring - Spacious apartment, good facilities and quite central for touring lakes. Restaurant good for dinner and staff v nice No breakfast available. Long walk from car park to room - esp in Lake District rain
- Kate (7/5): The room I stayed in was very dark but other than that it was a nice hotel. - Good for families looking for a break away.
- Samantha (10/5): The best week away - The setting of Whitbarrow Village is absolutely beautiful and perfect for accessing the best walks in the lake district. The Ullswater suites were perfect. They catered for everything you needed (including kitchen equipment). The room was lovely and clean. I very much enjoyed having my coffee every morning on the terrace. The food in the eden restaurant is amazing. Not only does it taste great, but the portion sizes are huge and very reasonably priced. The crazy golf course is an added benefit for everyone. The pool facilities were great too. The jacuzzi being my personal favourite. Whilst we were there, they were undergoing some upgrading, so we never used the changing rooms or the gym. So I'm sure in the future the pool and spa facilities and changing rooms will be better. The pool could be a bit warmer. It was a little cold.
The bar could stay open a bit longer, especially on Sundays. However, I imagine in the busier seasons it would.
- Aysha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alistair (6/5): Disappointing, needs significant improvement - Good size & quiet apartment, nice bathroom, onsite pool & sauna, helpful staff Double bed much too small, no toiletries, poor restaurant meals, no breakfast available onsite (a big omission even with an emphasis on self-catering), pool changing rooms not available (we were told before arrival but a good while after we booked), massive overload of texts (6!) and emails (3 or 4) before our arrival which meant I lost the will to live - or take in the information we were sent, badly potholed long approach road from the entrance which was uncomfortable and gave a very poor impression, no obvious recycling facilities despite big stated environmental ambitions and nannying texts asking us during our stay to turn off lights when we went out…..
- Jeanette (8/5): Very good - 1-bedroom Chalet was great. Full kitchen with loads of cupboard space. Dishwasher, but no washing machine. Parking in a central car park only (away from accommodation). Leisure facilities were good - small but well -equipped gym area, small swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Lovely on- site bar and restaurant (we had a lovely meal one evening). Close to Keswick and Penrith as main towns. You definitely need transport as in the middle of nowhere. So going out to eat (and have a drink) was not really feasible. On a personal basis, not sure we would like to be there in the height of holiday season.
- Irene (7/5): Nice relaxing trip, staff very pleasant and helpful. - Quiet and relaxing. Request made for outside furniture, made on first day, was not fulfilled.
- April (8/5): Great location and facilities - Great facilities, the pool/gym were clean and in good working order. The site was clean and well maintained. Parking was easily accessible and it was easy to park your car near to the apartment to unload before taking it to the main carpark. All staff were encountered were helpful and friendly. Black mould on the window frames and on the backs of the blinds (especially in the bedroom which did aggravate our chests in the night). I feel these need replacing and better ventilation in the properties to stop the condensation on the windows and build up of mould.
- Tina (7/5): Good -
- Manxie (10/5): Please visit! - Rooms exactly as described. Excellent facilities. Exceptional staff, particularly in the bar/restaurant. Chef extremely helpful by preparing meal “off menu” for one of our party with food allergy. Really pleasant stay.
- Lorraine (10/5): Really enjoyed it and we have recommended it and will return. - Suite was lovely
Staff excellent Would of liked a bar area where you can sit.
Breakfast in the restaurant.
- Kristine (10/5): Exceptional - Bed was really small
- Shazad (9/5): Superb -
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - It was lovely and peaceful, the pool was great. Also enjoyed the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The only thing we noticed was black mould in the living area. Everything else was great.
- Jade (10/5): Already looking at booking again. - We stayed in Ullswater 13
The room was warm, cosy and well equipped with everything we needed for a self catering and quiet break away.
The bath was huge and water lovely and hot which is a must for my breaks away.
The room was immaculate and had dishwasher with tablets, washing up liquid and cloths with a tea towel.
There was tea & coffee with milk and sugar soap & toilet rolls in the suite.
There was options to eat out in the evening on the complex with a bar/restaurant menu (fish was amazing) and options for takeaway pizza from 2pm. We had a few Breakfasts out in Penrith, Keswick and a fab breakfast offering, farm shop & the Sunday roast & takeaway cakes were amazing at Base Camp just a short drive away. There was also fresh eggs to buy on the drive up to the complex.
The information pack needs a little updating with opening times etc but info on the boards and via the daily message system was good.
The pool and jacuzzi & sauna was great, the steam room was not working properly after being fixed and was set far too hot but the maintenance team assured us this was being looked into. Unfortunately the gym wasn’t open although we did see lots of new equipment being delivered.
Again the welcome information needs updating as there was no market in Penrith as stated in the pdf and the Keswick Market was also not on but plenty of other things to do.
We didn’t use the laundry facilities or the free outdoor activities but they all looked well maintained.
Perfect place to relax and unwind & recharge, if you’re looking to get away from the hustle this is perfect.
(I’d love to see a therapist & treatment room :) ) Nothing to not like!
- Piotr (9/5): Superb - location, suit was valued for money 💰, kitchen, rest room, bed ,sofa, all in perfect condition 👌 window and balcony door!!!!! you can feel the wind from outside inside (big issue). The microwave doesn't work .
- Lynn (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (8/5): Very good - Views, value for money , privacy, location , comfort Had a burst pipe in bathroom . Filled floor with water and room with heavy steam and condensation. Took 6 hours for maintenance to fix problem after being reported.
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (6/5): Nice place - Peaceful and quite Poor lighting in apartment as husband registered blind no main light
Bed uncomfortable as roll into middle and been well used
Lots missing grout in bathroom
Rusty bathroom radiator and marks on ceiling from upstairs bathroom
Shower smelt when used bathroom
No outside chairs
No breakfast option
Advertised adult only and children in pool area
Restraint too expensive 😪
No Netflix and tv small volume on tv kept going up and down
Hose in shower leaked
5/10 overall
Funiture could do with replacements as worn out
Comes across as old timeshare resort
Dont understand why £100 damage deposit as everything is worn !
- Kerry (10/5): Relaxing break - Everything Loved it all
- Lesley (10/5): Lovely relaxing short break - very happy with our stay. - The rooms were of a very high standard, in terms of quality and comfort of furnishings, warmth and sound proofing. We had a good nights sleep in the very comfy bed! All the team members were friendly and helpful too. No breakfast available in the restaurant, although the room was nicely equipped with everything to make our own.
- Premila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (7/5): 2 - Room was excellent 👌 Room window was blowing a Gail through the sides. Reported to reception. Taped up with packing tape.
No hot water on Sunday morning. Sauna was not working Sunday.
- Steve (10/5): Beautiful open countryside with lots of fresh air and plenty of wildlife. - Set in the middle of nowhere, really peaceful and a beautiful place to relax and unwind! The suite was lovely and had everything we needed! Will be booking again. There was nothing not to like
- R (8/5): 2 nights in the Lake District - Nice sized suite
Sauna, pool, hot tub were quiet when we went
Bar area nice and relaxing
Useful electric charge area also

- April (9/5): Over all great experience. We will be recommending the Ullswater suites to family and friends. - We had a few evening meals during our stay and found the food to be exceptionally good. The young girl behind the bar was lovely as was the young man who attended to us. Unfortunately there was a lot of noise and mess from the work on other suites going on but do realise that maintaining the property is essential.
- George (2/5): Disappointed in our recent visit. - Quiet location with a restaurant and pool on site. Renovation work is being done in Ullswater Suites at present. All of the surfaces in our suite were covered in builders dust. Some of the furniture was torn and grubby. The tiled bathroom floor was poorly grouted and scruffy.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Brilliant - Could do with more disabled car parking to main area
- Steve (5/5): Just ok - Nice set up Beds too small and hard
Restaurant terrible
