• Arianna (7/5): Great Location. Easy to get to the beach but not right downtown! - The room was awesome! Enough to fit two dogs and 3 people. The bathroom was updated and the beds were clean. The beds were a little harder that I would have liked and my shower was lukewarm at best. After I showered my mom figured out the trick of letting the faucet run in the sink and get hot then turn on the shower.

Mattress was hard and when you turned over in bed the metal frame of the mattress banged against the metal bed frame keeping me awake. • sianm360 (8/5): Spacious and comfortable stay, great for longer visits - We stayed at Lone Oak Inn in Monterey for two nights and had a very comfortable experience overall. The apartment itself felt brand new and offered a huge amount of space, which was a big plus. The beds were very comfortable, and everything had a fresh, modern feel. The location is also great—you can easily drive into Monterey or head down to Big Sur, making it a convenient base for exploring the area. It seems especially well-suited for longer stays. There were a few minor downsides. The furniture was quite sparse, and the kitchen could be better equipped—there were no dishwasher tablets provided and the knife selection was limited. There was also no washing machine available, which could be inconvenient for longer stays. One thing to note is that while the listing mentioned a pool, only some units (those with hot tubs) actually had access, and this apartment did not. Also no breakfast which is fine but a complimentary ballet if continental pastries would be nice as it was expensive at £170 per night. Despite these small issues, we really enjoyed our stay. It was very comfortable for a short break, and we would definitely consider staying again—especially for a longer visit.

Even though it was recently refurbished, there were obvious signs of wear (outlet cover was loose- seemed hazardous, one of the slats on the blinds was broken, shower vent was disconnected from the ceiling, box spring cover was torn). One mattress was soft and not very comfortable, the other was ok. Both had tempurpedic-type mattresses.

Every time I turned in bed there was a loud metal on metal grinding sound that made it very difficult to sleep. Rusty glass shower doors brackets made it hard to get into shower over tub. The room needed lots of updates.

• petadawg (4/5): Manager lied and overbilled us - My family and I go scuba diving in Monterey and for several years have stayed at Lone Oak Lodge because it's very friendly to divers. In recent months, that has changed dramatically for the worse. On our last two visits, the rinse tanks for the dive equipment, which in the past have always been kept fresh and clean, have been stale and growing algae. Definitely not something you want to put your equipment into. Worse, though, is what happened on this most recent trip. I knew we were going to be late back to the room and asked the night before if we could get a late check out. The lady who runs the front desk, who I've seen the last couple visits, told me that it would be a $40 charge if we stay late. I told her that was fine because I knew we should be getting back to the room a little after noon, and we were hoping to take a shower before we hit the road home. The next day we were delayed and didn't get back until 3:00 due to being locked out of our car. I called the hotel at around 2 to let them know this was happening. When we got back to the hotel and cleared our stuff out of the room, I went by the front desk to check out and make sure they had run the $40 charge. The same lady who had been there the night told me (snarkily) that we might as well stay and spend the night because we just paid for the room again. What?!? I told her that she had told me $40, and she told me that she said it was $40 per hour. I know what I heard the night before, and I would have done the math if she had said "per hour". She did not say per hour, and she was lying to my face. I told her that I disagreed with her, and she clearly was not going to admit her error. What was worse was when I looked at my credit card when I got home and saw that she had charged me $173 which was far more than even the $40/hr she was quoting. Now I get that they need to run a business, and I understand that we were delayed, but it was a Sunday afternoon and the parking lot was empty in March - I was not causing them to lose out on another room rental. This was just flat out abusive and taking advantage of us. I strongly recommend that all the dive community reconsider any loyalty we might have had to Lone Oak because it's not the place it used to be.

It’s pretty basic if you need a cheap clean motel for a night. There were ants in the bathroom and the details of the bathroom were not great. There was water damage on the lower part of the wall next to the shower with rust and peeling/bubbling paint, which is probably why there is a slight musty smell. The beds and pillows were on the very firm side.

We warn against dishonest behavior that may constitute fraud on the part of the facility. We (family with a child) had a paid overnight stay on February 15-17, 2026 in this facility, which confirmed the reservation before our arrival. We were deprived of the opportunity to stay overnight in the facility we paid for. An employee of the Lone Oak Lodge, without our consent or knowledge, lied that the hotel's reservation website was not working, after our arrival in Lone Oak, told us to fill out the Lone Oak check-in form. In the meantime, several Spanish-speaking people were served and checked in. After filling out the form, the woman serving us told us to follow her to her colleague in another building because, as she claimed, "her computer and system are not working" and the colleague should check us in Lone Oak. We didn't know Lone Oak hotel, so we followed the instructions of the person serving us. The employee assured us that: “my friend's system was working and the facility belonged to the same owner, so there was no problem”. So initially we were convinced that we were registered in Lone Oak. The time was late, it was dark outside, we didn't know the facility where we made the reservation. As it turned out, the employee who registered us in Lone Oak on the Lone Oak form placed us at the Red Roof Inn without our consent or knowledge. Since the standard of the facility did not match the photos of Lone Oak, where we booked accommodation and who confirmed our reservation, we immediately went to the employee who initially served us and requested to be transferred to the place we had purchased. We raised concerns that we would never book a stay at Red Roof, the room is substandard, small, dirty, with traces of blood on the sheets and hair. The bedding was not changed, the room was stinking, dirty and everything was sticky. The employee said that someone would soon change the room to the one we booked or change the bed linen and clean it, and lied again that it was the same facility with the same owner, even though the name was Red Roof and did not correspond to what we booked. We tried to contact the employee again and also wrote directly to Red Roof, for which we have evidence. Nobody came, nobody called, nobody was there. We were left in the middle of the night in a disgusting room and we stayed there only to have a roof over our heads at night in an unknown place, especially since the area did not seem safe and we were with a small child. In our opinion, the employee not only lied and overbooked, but also for racist reasons she booked accommodation for Spanish-speaking people in Lane Oak, leaving us without sleeping in the facility for which we paid -Lane Oak . After asking the facility for an explanation and compensation for this incident, the hotel avoids any response, even though another hotel employee was aware of what happened and told us to officially file a complaint requesting compensation for dishonest behavior and treating us as guests. We travel all over the world and this behavior doesn't happen to us. Here, the standard of service has nothing to do with professionalism and honesty. Even though after being moved to the right room the next day, it was consistent with the photos, clean throughout the entire situation, no reaction from the hotel, no response, ignoring the customer, the rating is negative. Additionally, the property lies that we accepted other accommodation options, which is a complete lie. Someone overbooked and tried to force us to stay overnight in a terrible, dirty, smelly room, claiming that it was the same facility, which is a clear fraud. No one can apologize, take responsibility or compensate for the damage, which should be standard in such a situation and proves the standard of the facility and the approach to the customer. The lowest level of service and lack of professionalism and human honesty and decency!

• Joyce (8/5): A nice place to stay. - The room was clean. The grounds are nice and the bed was very comfortable. There is no breakfast, but there is a Denny's down the road. Check-in was pretty smooth even with the surprise extra fees. We feel that $45 a day for a pet is too high considering there is no place to walk your dog or for her to do her business. They also charge $11 a day to park in the parking lot. You have no choice but to pay it in an otherwise pretty empty lot.

• Jordy (7/5): Un bon motel. - Proche du centre, bon accès à Big Sur également Les volets laissent passer beaucoup de lumières et il y a beaucoup de lumière à l'extérieur la nuit sur le parking extérieur. Cela a affecté notre sommeil. Ca pourrait être réglé avec un rideau. Pas de couverts en plastique et très basique pour le déjeuner (uniquement café, pas de thé, pas de bouilloire)

We liked the location/ drive to sights was short and easy.. the fridge was loud and falling apart the bed was loud and uncomfortable felt like we were lying on metal the pillows were awful and the bed didn’t have enough bedding/blankets loud being close to airport

• Mary Ellen (9/5): All in all, it was perfect for our one night stay. - The room we booked had a full-sized hot tub separate from the bedroom, but still in the room. The value for this room was excellent. Loved that the floors weren't carpeted, and there weren't curtains, only nice white shutters. Couldn't understand how the heater worked, and a little bigger TV would have been nice.
• Marz (9/5): Awesome but needs some improvements - I liked everything! Everything felt very clean. Cleanliness is non-negotiable for me. The price can't be beat for what you get from Lone Oak Lodge. The last time I was here was in 2018, I loved it then and I still love it now! The door security guard was a bit broken. Screws were undone. Made me feel a bit anxious, so I put tables behind the door to feel more secure at night. Also the pure white lights in the hot tub area ruins the relaxation for me. Having yellow/warm lights there would make a world of a difference. I'm glad there was a warm light lamp by the bed. That was pretty much the only light on most of the time.

• Myki (10/5): I stay at Lone Oak 3 times a year for my golf trips. Excellent staff and amenities and one of the cleanest places I’ve - Extremely clean rooms. Beds are comfortable and they give you freshly washed blankets for your stay. It’s a hidden gem. NA
