Guest Reviews
- William (8/5): Enjoyable - Value for money. Comfortable for what we needed.
- Chinenye (8/5): -
- Stuart Thomas (10/5): - The staff
- Donnellan (10/5): Already written - Joanne the owner left easy instructions on entry to the property. The room was plenty big enough for me, the shower was powerful and it had the fluffiest towels ever!! The room.also had a fridge which was a bonus. Great location and Maguires takeaway is well worth a visit
Will definitely use again if I'm up that way Nothing
- AmberHodgson (5/5): -
- Jeanette (9/5): Thank you for a very comfortable stay - Rooms were comfortable, clean and lovely and warm
We didn’t need to used the shared area but that also looked very clean
Shower good lovely hot water N/A
- Emma (7/5): Dont judge a book by its cover - The rooms are basic but you dont need a lot in a room. The bed was super comfy The duvet smelt badly of Body Odour
- Obinna Henry (8/5): Nice place. Awesome location - Kim was prompt with providing relevant information Clean the bead better.
- Denise (8/5): A great value for money option. - Rooms very clean and warm. Well thought out in terms of ensuite shower and well stocked kitchen in terms of crockery, cutlery etc.
Hosts gave great instructions how to access the property. It is also opposite a large Lidl so good to stock up on basics, no need to bring a car full of food! n/a
- michael (8/5): - All as expected very good Nothing
- Damian (7/5): -
- Brandon (8/5): -
- Karen (8/5): Accommodation made my needs and was fairly priced - Good location and was worth the money I paid for it Had a little trouble with opening the front door. I only have the use of one hand so maybe that was the reason.
- Natalie (7/5): -
- Gary (5/5): -
- Aravind (10/5): -
- Julian (10/5): Very good accommodation, would recommend and will certainly use again. -
- Keith (8/5): Good value for money - but call for directions! - The listing says free parking on site. In fact the property is down a pedestrian alley with no vehicle access - that said there is ample free off-road parking close by. Given it's location it's very difficult to find, the view of the property on the listing is only visible once you're inside their yard behind a locked gate - I drove up & down several times looking for the property. Once I spoke to the property it was easy enough to find, but you do need directions! All that said the bed was comfy, the shower excellent and the service friendly. Now I know where it is I would stay there again. (I didn't need it but there is a full kitchen available for guest use). Lots of take away, restaurant food and shops on the doorstep.
- FRANK (10/5): - Welcoming, nice and secure, clean and friendly management team, and also value for money.
- Justine (10/5): - Lovely lovely stay! Eveything has been really thought out and comfy bed wifi assces to kitchen facillities so perfect for budgeting an over night stay and being able to take food with you rather than buying food in or staying at a hotel where they charge extra prices for somwthing like a pot noodle! Was so hand having somewhere to be able make food for our toddler as she can get unpredicatable as to when she hungry 10/10
- David (10/5): - Cracking price for a clean, comfy room with free parking right next to the guest house
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Very helpful and friendly host gave clear instructions/information. Comfortable bed and good shower. Clean, warm with all the essentials.
- Alex (10/5): Great stay, comfy room, excellent location. - Great location, very convenient for Metro Centre and plenty of shops nearby. I have no complaints.
- Johanna (10/5): -
- Martin (9/5): World Cup rugby - Great value for money and a good location for my stay.
A couple of stops on the local bus to the transport hub at the Metro Centre.
Lots of local facilities including a Supermarket, take aways and a couple of pubs.
During my stay I discovered the beautiful Derwent Country Park trail that starts just along the road.
The room was clean and comfortable and it felt like home from home.
The kitchen/lounge area was a bonus.
I would not hesitate to recommend Hoppers Cottage to Family and Friends. Nothing to dislike.
- Julia (7/5): Great location for the Metro Centre shopping, entertainment and dining - This is in a great location with easy walking distance of the Gateshead Metro Centre and so many food options. Having a fridge in the room was great, especially in the heat of the current summer. It's a little shabby in places with scuffed wallpaper but it was clean and good for a couple of nights. Wi-fi was good and it was useful to have a kitchen with plates, cutlery etc. I'd be happy to stay here again. Parking is free and within easy walking distance but I arrived on a Saturday, early evening and the car park was full of people picking up food from the nearby outlets. It was really busy with cars coming and going and delivery drivers also in and out. I had to drive around a few times to get a space when someone left. I parked in a position I wasn't really happy with so a little later I came back to the car park and moved to a safer position.
- Katrina (10/5): -
- Nicola (6/5): Great for a room required at last minute, no frills but comfortable. - Great value for money, secure accommodation for our needs.
- Isabel (8/5): - Clean, excellent communication, basic and good value. Worked for us as we only slept and showered there. We had all 3 rooms so only us in the house . Wouldn't have been comfortable if sharing with other people we didn't know.
- Stephanie (8/5): - Accommodation was clean Possibly be nicer if the outside could have had a few plant pots, made it look just a little bit cherrier and be nice to sit out in good weather.
- Maddalena (10/5): Exceptional - We had booked 2 rooms for an overnight stay during our trip to Scotland. Location is perfect, parking and house are easy to find, there are pubs, takeaways and Lidl nearby. Both rooms and kitchen were big, very clean, tidy, and beds very omfortable. We received clear instructions for directions, parking and access to the house. We will definitely be back when going to Scotland or visiting the North East.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (9/5): We had a pleasant stay in an interesting area. - We self catered E had some difficulty getting the door key from the safe
- Anne (7/5): Good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): - Lots of parking. Fuel station, supermarket and fast food only 3 minute walk away. Thanks.
- Rosemary (7/5): Good - I liked the old style of the
Property and the nearby facilities The front door is very difficult to open, perhaps the owner needs to have the lock looked at as the key is very difficult to use.
- Broomfield (10/5): Perfect place to stay!!! - It was just perfect for what we wee doing. It was too perfect!!!!
- Conrad (9/5): Great value, comfy accommodation. - Location good but not near a Metro station, really easy car parking (free), good directions and for the price I paid the room was super clean and comfy. Fridge in room and access to kitchen a bonus. I stop in Newcastle regularly and I am definitely intending to stop here again. Nothing.
- Dorothy (10/5): Second booking, very comfortable, clean and great value for the price. - Good communication at all times with owner/manager.Room was clean and very comfortable, fridge in room a bonus.A communal kitchen was spotless and well equipped. This was my second stay and I would definitely book again. I was travelling alone and the outside appearance of the high fencing was a bit daunting, perhaps more lighting would be good as quite dark at entrance to property, however I did feel safe and secure once inside the property, keysafe system is very good.
- Gary (10/5): Great Stay - This was a basic room and cheap but was comfortable and clean. You could not ask for anymore for the price paid.
Did not physically meet the owner but she was available via text for anything required - which we did not need.
Room had TV and fridge and their was a kitchen downstairs for our use.
- Dorothy (9/5): Property was clean, comfortable and I felt safe and secure as a woman staying alone. - Great value for clean comfortable room, good well stocked kitchen, would stay again.Owner/manager Kim kept me informed and made sure check in was simple but secure. Nothing I didn’t like

- Lui (8/5): Very good -

- Roddy (10/5): Good stay - Good place to stay. Quite close to route of travel between England and Scotland. Aldi, Petrol station, washing machines, restaurants all around the accommodation. Excellent communication with Joanne for checking in. There is a handy small shared kitchen on the ground floor.
- Kristián (9/5): Superb - Nice rooms, hot water, fridge in the room, TV, kitchen. Easy check-in. Could use a bigger pan and pot but other than that all good.
- Dabotubo (8/5): Very good -
- Leslie (10/5): - The property is clean, tidy and comfortable. The little communal kitchen area is a very good idea for making food or sitting in while eating a takeaway.
There is plenty of tea and coffee in the room, and also a little fridge for storing milk, drinks, food etc.
Have stayed before, hence why I returned again. It is convenient for many uses and close to the A1. There are local shops, takeaways and a petrol station all within walking distance.
The only negative I had, was that it was too warm. So, I had to turn all the radiators off in my room. The heating seems to be on constantly, or the thermostat is turned up too high.
If arriving in the dark, I would advise taking a torch, as the coded gate is in a dark alleyway, and it's hard to see the digits on the lock.
- Coulter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karl (5/5): Passable -
- Katrina (8/5): Very good - Nice and clean everything you need for your stay close to amenities
- Evelyn (3/5): On viewing the surroundings and the facilities we decided not to stay and came straight home - Very poor I didn't realise on booking that it was a back entrance with really no parking facilities and it was very dark entrance and felt uncomfortable The entrance could have been more welcoming and a little bit of updating
- Kristina (8/5): Very good -
- Slobodan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dave (8/5): Very good - Convenient for the occasion Location was rather commercial
- Ann (8/5): Very good -
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional - Location and directions were perfect and price was the most reasonable we found for a weekend stay. All great
- Michael (7/5): reasonable price for a one night stay - good value for money
- Debbie (9/5): Very comfortable and good value - Good location, Lidl very close, car parking, quiet, good communication from owner.
- Jill (9/5): Superb - Convenient to our trip The en suite door didn't close without slamming, if my husband had his toolkit he would have altered the keep to rectify problem.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arpatchanint (10/5): Exceptional - Communication with landlord/staff were good. . Clean& good place for short break . Parking available. We can hear noises from another guests at night and morning
- Toni-louise (8/5): Very good -
- Jim (8/5): Very good -
- Joseph (5/5): Spiders! - Place was clean but they'd just completely neglected to dust! Spiders everywhere! Giant cobwebs in every corner. Had a spider crawl across me as going to sleep. Had to use the vacuum cleaner to clear all the corners of spiders and cobwebs, behind the bed and chairs. Not good enough
- Giovanni (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shingler (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely rooms and staff were spot on would use then again Nothing
- Thomas (8/5): Close to great pub in Wickham - Room was immaculate comfortable and the instructions for checking in were really good. Parking was easy and would definitely stay again.
- Ferenc (9/5): Superb - The bed To gat in the house
- Joanna (10/5): Great value, really comfortable, good location - Great little place, easy to get to and within easy distance of the city centre, public transport etc.
Room was clean, cosy and bed was comfortable. Directions to get in were precise and easy to follow and in all a great place to stay. Would use again and would recommend.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, excellent communication from booking right up until my actual stay made, finding the entrance really easy. Bed is extremely comfortable and couldn't fault the facilities available.
- John (10/5): Got about to places easily, had a great time at house. - Very quiet area, everything working as it should be,plenty of public transport just a few yards away. Key codes for gate and key box a bit awkward for elderly people.
- Majed (1/5): Crap owner inconsiderate at best - Summer time in England with no black out curtains, I didn’t sleep the whole night from the light and I failed my exam next day.
- David (8/5): Clean, tidy, very good value - Very convenient for Metro Centre, Derwent Walk. A good base for visiting different places. Entrance is in an alleyway - a gate in a tall fence. No street lighting so a little intimidating if returning after dark, as you have to punch in a code to open the gate, without lighting.
- Katy (8/5): Very good -
- Hussain (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kirsty (9/5): Great place, will stay again! - Easy to find, very comfy and quiet N/a
- Robertson (8/5): COULD NOT RECEIVE A CONNECTION FOR WI-FI - N/A N/A

- Christopher (10/5): Nice stay for a stopover - Contact with the owners was efficient. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Only slight downside was the TV coming on randomly twice in the middle of the night.
- John (10/5): - Great place to stay for the night excellent options for food and drink close by . Metro centre easy and quick walking distance. Quality room and facilities very comfortable bed had a great night sleep. Overall needed somewhere to get our head's down for the night before carrying on with our journey this ticks the box will definitely come back again. Very good communication and easy to find.
- Joseph (8/5): Hoppers - Very clean, well maintained property
- Keith (8/5): Very good -
- Clint (9/5): Superb - Ideal for my work trips. Finally a place with a fridge in the room. The entrance at rear may not be safest late at night
- Jean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rod (7/5): Good - Good location Access to unit is complicated
- Jo (8/5): Very good - Good room and facilities. Clean and comfortable. The cleaner came in unexpectedly at 9.30 in the morning. I was the only one there and they did not call out or anything so that could perhaps be better managed.
Also the plug sockets by the wardrobe didn't work.
- Aleksandra (8/5): Very good -
- Goodman (10/5): Just perfect 👌🏻 - The lady helped us with travel, went above and beyond for us to get to our room from the coach station and then to the football stadium. The room was immaculate and the bed was really comfortable.
- Nicola (9/5): Superb -
- Mirko (10/5): - todo perfecto ... muy tranquila ... muy amable contacto ...
- Chris (9/5): It was really great, one of the best guest houses I have stayed . - Location was ok . didn't realize that the town which so close to Gateshead.got on the bus,but missed stop because bus driver didn't know the area.no props getting there and back in the evening and going home.good pub next door and good chip shop.great room, comfy bed, good shower and a had a great night's kip.once I read my emails, thanks to a couple telling me,I liked the fact you needed a code to go through the gate and to collect my key . great idea. No staff were around when I got there and left, but that was not a problem.
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - It's quiet
- Lorna (7/5): It served the purpose that I needed it for - There was no breakfast. The location was easy to get to and the room was lovely, it had everything you needed and Kim was available to answer my queries. The only downside for me was that the car park was further away from the accommodation than I would have liked, but that is because I am carrying a bit of an injury at the moment.
