Guest Reviews
- Durhamprophoto (10/5): A charming property and wonderfully kind hosts! - We had the pleasure of staying at the 1842 Bed and Breakfast, hosted by Lynn and Alan for a few days. What a delightful experience at this charming property! We stayed in the Carpenter's room with a four poster bed and pull-out bed. Both were exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom was super-clean and well appointed. Breakfasts were to die for - fresh fruit, home baked muffins served warm, and eggs / bacon or pancakes / sausage. There is a beautiful sitting room with lots of magazines and movies, or a quiet place to curl up with a book. Lynn and Alan are exceptional hosts - there was cold water, soft drinks, coffee / tea, treats and cookies available 24 hours, along with a microwave and toaster if you wanted to make a snack. Every comfort is considered - and did I mention that everything is spotlessly clean? Added bonus (big bonus): Alan is a gifted artisan who crafts glass jewellery and other items in his on-site studio - he has many items displayed including necklaces, earrings, lamps, and ornaments. Workmanship is excellent and a few items make wonderful mementos of your lovely stay. I would return to the area just to stay at this B&B!!!
- donnai355 (8/5): A welcoming Inn and comfortable stay. - A little gem of an Inn run by a very nice couple. Spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed our room was very comfortable. We were the only guests mid week so it was also very quiet. Lynn made us an exceptional country breakfast including the best blueberry muffins I have tasted. We walked to a local restaurant for dinner so no need to drive. I would have preferred to have the bathroom within our room but our private bath was accessed from the hall in the next room just steps away. Thank you Lynn and Alan for a lovely stay.
- V8947HZnormam (10/5): Excellant stay - Excellent host and hostess. Alan and Lynn were very accommodating with any requests. An amazing breakfast, clean comfortable bed. Would certainly book again if we are in the area. Cozy century home with lots of character.
- guyl7 (10/5): A nice B&B - We stayed one night. Lovely room, great owners. Breakfast was unbelievable, much more than we could eat. My only issue would be that the private bath room was across the hall - this was the same for all three rooms on our floor.
- YingBernardFrancois (8/5): A nice B&B in a traditional huse. - Very good choice in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
A very pretty room.
Located in a nice quiet village but very close to Waterloo.
Great breakfast.
Free Parking.
We reserve by phone at the last minute without any problem.
- polskizMTL (10/5): Cozy stay in a wonderful B&B - My friend and I spent one night at this B&B on August 17th and we would have stayed longer had time permitted. The house is lovely, cozy and full of history. Lynn and Allan are wonderful hosts, warm and friendly. I can't say enough about the amazing breakfast! Yum!! We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Lynn and Allan for making us feel welcomed and for a lovely chat after breakfast. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again if our travels take us back to your area some day!
- prairiedot (8/5): Charming Bed and Breakfast - This is a heritage property just outside St Jacobs, Ontario, and was quite delightful. It is also the home of the Allan Ryan glasswork art studio - an added bonus. Lynne lives at the property and was a charming hostess, looking after all my needs. Breakfast was outstanding! My room was quite small and my washroom was just outside my door down the hall (rather a surprise), but that really didn't affect my enjoyment of the property.
- NeilP451 (10/5): Would return if in the area - This was our first time at the 1842 B & B. Lynn made us very welcome. The place contains 3 rooms; each with their own bathroom (not directly connected to the room). Room and bed were both comfortable. Bathroom scrupulously clean. Breakfast (for 6 people total was superb. Home baked muffins (still warm). Fresh fruit. Yoghurt. Quiche (our day) directly from the stove (by the taste). Your choice of coffee, tea or green tea. Lynn stayed to talk after she was done.
- lcritskes (10/5): Road Trip to St Jacobs - Stayed July 18, 2018
Lovely time - amazing breakfast - best blueberry muffins ever!
Neat and clean - private bath, comfie bed, wonderful company for a full country breakfast serviced with warmth and generosity
Would highly recommend
- Was1941 (6/5): Unique and Clean by Noisy - This is a very unique historic building that has been converted into a B&B. The owner was very nice and offered little local information. Breakfasts were very good and again the owner made every effort to make us feel welcome. It is located in a very convient location for the area. Our major concern, and a reason we would not stay there again, is the amount of noise in the rooms and the fact that even thought the bathrooms are private they are detached from the room. The owner told us that there would be no noise after 10 a night and this was just not true. There was road noise most of the night. So light sleepers be aware. No TV in either the room or the common room.
- EqwineAcres (6/5): Eclectic B&B - B&B's are a reflection of the owner's personalities and this B&B is no different. The owners are artisans and have years of B&B ownership.
Pros -
Only a few KMs from St. Jacobs and St. Jacobs market
Generous fresh made breakfast
Historical information on the building and region readily available at the B&B
Accessible, accomodating owners
Clean bedroom and bath
Cons-
Floors are uneven, rise, fall and creak due to the building's age
Persons with sensitive sinuses may find the inn's historic odors unsettling as well as the smells from the jeweler's kiln
Light sleepers may find the noise between rooms unsettling and if windows are open the regular highway traffic out front disruptive
Ensuite bathrooms are in a common hallway. The bath is not connected to the bedroom.
Access to rooms is through the retail business of the B&B
- traceysV7360EL (10/5): Quaint and Beautiful - My girlfriends and our daughters just stayed for my 50th birthday and enjoyed every minute. Lynn and Allan are lovely and friendly hosts who make an over night stay an experience. Beautiful rooms with private baths across the hall on the second floor of a cute period home. Snacks and drinks are conveniently located in the hallway outside the rooms, along with countless books. The living room downstairs has movies and our breakfast of bacon, eggs, fresh hot muffins, yogurt, cereals fresh fruit, tea and coffee was to die for!!
- RCanada62 (10/5): Exquisite! - This is a really charming and lovely bed and breakfast, a vastly different experience from a regular hotel. Allan and Lynn are exceptional hosts; I don't think they have overlooked a single detail. The rooms are comfortable and quaint, and the bathrooms are clean and functional. Note that the bathrooms are for the use of a single room, they are across a hall, not en suite. Breakfast is home made and generous, but family style, so you will be sharing the table with other guests. We enjoyed our stay very much. Highly recommended.
- Fiona3BW (10/5): Excellent hosts and breakfast - We stayed for only one night and were the only guests. The host made us feel very welcome, even providing soft drinks in a fridge. Allen recommended a great place from a meal. The breakfast was huge, including homemade muffins. A great place to stay.
- tonyd298 (10/5): Ontario - Stayed with Lynn & Allan at their very Historic B&B in Conestoga, this couple were very gracious and welcoming.
The B&B was built in the 1840s and the owners are only too happy to tell the history of the property.
Breakfast was superb and Lynn was very obliging in your choice of menu, rooms were clean and each has its own private shower
Allan runs a jewellery studio downstairs with exquisite hand made pieces.
- Dlynnphill (10/5): An evening to ourselves - Allan and Lynn have a wonderful B&B and do their utmost to ensure the comfort of their guests. The bed we had in our room was very comfortable.....topped with a very attractive quilt. Cleanliness is observable in all corners of the premises. All the touches: robes to wear, wine glasses, snacks, bottled water, guest library, very comfortable lounge for guests with TV and a large movie selection. After showing us to our room, Lynn offered to make us coffee/tea. We enjoyed the tea with some homemade treats. What a special touch! Breakfast was very enjoyable and filling. Yogurts, fruit salad, juices, coffee/tea, homemade cinnamon rolls, bacon, eggs.....we could not have asked for more. If you forgot any bathroom items they were there......no worries. A very enjoyable stay that we would happily repeat if in the area again.
- jbglad59 (8/5): Great little spot near St. Jacob's and Waterloo - We spent a night here in order to visit our son who lives in Waterloo and go to the St. Jacob's market. It was a great choice! The rooms are cute and affordable, the couple who run it are friendly and personable. There's a nice little lounge for guests, with board games and books. The breakfast (included) is delicious, more than ample and all home-made. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
- 800ElizabethW (8/5): Great spot close to K-W - Just a few minutes from Waterloo, little Conestogo is a sleepy, pretty spot where you're likely to wake to the sounds of a horse and buggy clopping by on their way to St. Jacob's just up the road. The inn is in an old sawmill and comes complete with creaky floors, low ceilings and a lovely art gallery.
The rooms are small but comfortable and each has a private bath across the hall. Thankfully, there are fluffy robes in each room so you won't shock the neighbours.
There's no TV but there is a fast wifi and a small lounge on the main floor has a TV.
Breakfast is served family style and owners Lynn and Allan flit in and out with a large meal of eggs, bacon and enough baking to keep you from even needing a trip to St. Jacob's.
This a great spot for a night or two and the owners are friendly and helpful.
- 901ChrisS901 (8/5): Great Stay - Allan and Lynn bend over backwards to ensure that your stay with them is everything you want. Rooms are very comfy and clean and the private bathroom exclusive to our room across the hall is not a problem. The library with books and magazines was a thoughtful resource.
Breakfast is delicious and generous. Allan's suggestion of a restaurant for dinner was great.
- R2561SZderekb (10/5): A super B&B and wonderful Gallery! Close to St. Jacob's, Kitchener and Waterloo! - We only stayed the one night but the hosts are great. The place is immaculate and the breakfast very hardy and very large. The attached Gallery of art and jewellery is wonderful as well. The hosts were willing to share stories galore of the place and their journey there! I would highly recommend this B&B with prices right in the normal range for a very good B&B.
The one oddity is, although rooms have private bathrooms - they are across a hallway!
The inn offered coffee and snacks, a fridge, and parking. If you are looking for good restaurant or local info they have all that too!
