• Sampson (6/5): It was okay for a last minute trip but would not stay again. - Close to the beach but no beach view I liked the easy check in. This was the only place available at the last minute I feel over charged. The tv did not work it was another room attached where we could literally hear everything going on they are extremely loud. I had to turn on ac to drown out the sound. It took about an hour but maintenance did come to fix the tv issue after I continued to call back to back. They sent a message about late check in but never responded when I asked for it after being up half the night. From previous reviews if you leave a good rating you can get the late check in so beware. Floors were also ever slippery and dirty.

• Nyeshia (3/5): Could’ve been better - It was clean! Wasn’t what i expected but it was okay for a last minute trip. One of my beds didn’t have a cover. Constantly kept trying to get a cover and rags. They didn’t give me any. The towels were stained with black stuff on them. Had to go out and buy all that because wouldn’t no one answer or in office when i went. The lady even told me she was going to get it and didn’t.

• Kelicia (7/5): Location was everything! - The location of the hotel was great! The beach was maybe 75 feet away from the room. Quiet neighborhood, it's considered North Myrtle Beach and what I observed was families gathered without the noise that follows. So, upon entering the room I noticed a lot of space which some would think that's a great idea. No, it's not. I was kind of heartbroken because I visited this hotel a few years ago and received the best overall experience, but the room was the worst. I asked staff for towels, and she was unable to understand what I was asking she immediately stated no. I called the number because the hotel is now virtual and they sent the maintenance man to bring me towels. It was definitely a language barrier. It was also a pool but from a far the water looks uncleaned, so we visited the beach instead. Outside of this and the pool the stay was great I was expecting the hotel to have grown. I guess that's why my friends booked elsewhere because I experienced something they didn't.

Had to keep calling about an issue to get any kind of response. Horrible stay with party time going on. Floors were slimy and stairwells rusty and falling apart…DO NOT waste your money, please!

• Kelly (6/5): Despite a great location and easy check-in, the Mermaid Inn was a letdown due to neglected pool - What I like is that The Mermaid Inn offers an ideal location that is convenient without being part of a massive, overwhelming complex. We particularly appreciated the seamless check-in process, which was both quick and efficient, allowing us to start our stay without any unnecessary delays. Accommodation Requests: Prior to arrival, I specifically requested a first-floor room due to mobility issues with my legs and back, as well as the convenience of traveling with children. Although I was assured this would be accommodated, we were placed on the third floor. Navigating multiple flights of stairs was physically difficult and not what I was led to expect. Housekeeping & Supplies: The process for obtaining basic essentials like extra towels or toilet paper is inconvenient. Instead of a traditional front desk service, guests must message a contact and wait for a response. A more direct method for requesting supplies would be much more guest-friendly. Pool Maintenance: The condition of the pool was highly disappointing. It appeared neglected, with cigarette butts, plastic, and sunken debris that had clearly settled at the bottom over time. My son actually tried to clean it himself with the net at the location of the pool, but much of the trash was unreachable. Lack of Management: The contrast was sharp compared to the neighboring property, which had a pristine pool. For families with children, the pool is a central part of the vacation, and seeing it so poorly maintained was a significant letdown.

The ac was out dated and did not cool the room off very well. Check out was 10am I did not see that any where and housekeeping opened the door at 10am hollering its check out time. VERY Rude.
• Lisa (10/5): Amazing Place To Stay!!!!!!Hope to see you again Soon!!!! - It was very clean, and peaceful. We did have to call 911 because of a domestic in the room next to us but it was taken care of within minutes. I was extremely triggered by it but was reassured by the management team that if I needed anything that they would take care of it. I noticed later in the day on my second full day there which was after the domestic issue that the lock on my door was broken I contacted management and they came to check it out and offered to move me to another room or change the lock and I said if they could just put a new lock on I preferred to stay in the room i was in because of tim constraints because i was expected to be somewhere and didn’t have time to change rooms so they agreed to change the locks . So I continued on with my day getting ready for my plans to leave to do what I have to go do and when returned at almost 2 am my room was unlocked because the lock was never changed . I was very upset had I known it wasn’t going to be fixed I never would have left my belongings unattended. Overall I really enjoyed my stay there and would and will stay there again. I just think it was some misunderstanding about the lock being fixed and nothing was taken from my room and honestly I think management was keeping a close eye on my room because of me have an anxiety attack/ flashback from being a DV survivor and they were concerned for me . They ate really amazing people!!!! Really love The Mermaid Inn!!!!

• Amy (1/5): RUN!!!! Gross, Unsafe, no deadbolts, broken window, torn curtains, no privacy, stinky, noisy, LIARS - Only decent things were location wasn't a far walk to the beach and dog friendly. I have absolutely nothing good to say about how it is run, the quality, value, safety, or the fact that 5 star ratings are bought with the promise of a free late check out. NONE OF THE 5 STAR RATINGS ARE TRUE, THEY'RE BOUGHT!!! It's a CRAPPY, CHEAP hotel with no deadbolts, a regular lock that wasn't working half the time and was really hard to get into your room with which wouldn't have been as big of a problem but, no staff on location to help you with anything, dishonest practices, and you can do better for the price. These should be $20-$50 a night rooms depending on the size. And they don't tell you until after you've paid that the dog fee is separate and will cost you another $56.50. I know the price is sooo tempting (we fell for all the good reviews), but just don't fall for it, especially if you have a dog. For close to $200 for 1 night during off season, it was DEFINITELY NOT WORHT IT. There was mold all over the shower, even in the shower head. Yes, you're showering in moldy water. I'm very allergic to mold, big deal for me. The fridge was dirty inside. Doesn't matter how cute something is if dirty. Long, black hair on the toilet. What was that cleaning fee for? Muggy rooms with A/C that can't keep up, no elevators-put on the 3rd floor of near empty hotel, sooo much barking, noisy cheap mattresses, broken furniture outside, door between the 2 rooms didn't shut properly-so much for privacy, I wasn't strong enough to shut that door.Door to connecting room wasn't even locked! Torn curtain that doesn't shut (people walking by see right into your room that you don't have a deadbolt for) letting light coming in with a broken window. And it stinks something awful, like a dirty litter box! It looks better in the pics than actually is. Bookings hung up on me when I called for help!!! Everything! This is a CRAPPY,UNSAFE, DIRTY place that BUYS 5 STAR REVIEWS so you'll think they can't be that bad and book them. Had other people been honest, I would never have booked this place. To top it off, Bookings.com doesn't care one bit and hung up on us! Look at the pictures. They look fine until you take a closer look and see just how dirty and rundown everything really is. Some of which wouldn't have been a problem if people had been honest in their reviews. I get older properties are not brand new, but filthy is not acceptable. Look at the reddish ring on the shower head. That's mold. Look at the hair on the toilet (mine is red, btw). Look at how dirty the bathtub is with mold, and how torn the curtain is so there's no way to close it. I don't like sleeping in a room without a deadbolt, with an electronic lock that is iffy at best, in a dirty room that stinks and is too humid to sleep in, not for what we paid, Now if I'd paid $30 for it and the reviews reflected that, then I wouldn't be so surprised. Shame on you Bookings.com and The Mermaid Inn. Hopefully I can save at least one person a terrible experience with my HONEST review.

MY FRIENDS AND I PLANNED TO HAVE A WONDERFUL GIRLS WEEKEND. FIRST HOURS, WE THOUGHT THERE WERE ANTS...TEXTED....THEY WERE ROACHES - EVERYWHERE! WE DID NOT SLEEP. CONTACTED THEM SEVERAL TIMES THROUGH THE NIGHT AND SENT PICS AND VIDEOS. TOLD THEM WE WERE CHECKING OUT THE NEXT DAY....APPARENTLY, NOW HAVING TO DISPUTE AND FIGHT WITH THEM. SO EMBARASSING TO ME AS I PLANNED THE TRIP ON A BUDGET. I HAVE MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND EXPEDIA INVOLVED BECAUSE I WILL NOT PAY FOR THAT. SO DISGUSTING AND UNSANITARY! That’s all you need to know. - Roaches, mouse droppings, cigarette burn holes in the sheets, stains in the towels, pubes in the bathroom, AC not working in the middle of June. After staying in the room for less than an hour, we requested a refund and after providing proof, we were denied because we didn’t give them the opportunity to clean the room. If there’s roaches, there’s roaches. New sheets aren’t going to change that. Communication was a nightmare. Photos on Expedia and other websites were a misrepresentation of the property. Staff was HORRIBLE and never responded to my emails when I requested a further explanation. Other guests smoking a bong on the steps was the cherry on top! Save yourself time and money and don’t book here. Wish I could give zero stars. We were in town for a funeral and Mermaid Inn made the weekend so much worse.

• Lattimore (1/5): Would not stay if it was the last place. - Nothing not a good place to stay. There was no staff on site. It was all virtual. There were black mold and holes in my room. Looked as if it was not cleaned in weeks. When there is no one on site, it can be used as a place for violence or other situations. While my husband and we're there getting our stuff to move to a better hotel, some kids tried to break into our room. Didn't feel safe.Told the people over messaging because no one there, they suggested to give us another room, but that doesn't reassure people that they are protected. Wanted our money back but they didn't want to give it because they stated didn't have a valid reason to leave.

Got a room on second floor ceiling had been leaking or third floor was leaking not sure. The towels and toilet paper was brown. Said they would give us another room. Went to switch keys and 2 people by the laundry room was shooting up the one was passed out with the needle in his arm. So we asked to leave. No refund no nothing . The text said we offered you another room. Who would stay there with this going on in the day time hours. Can only imagine the nightmare at night. Do not stay !!!!!

Asked “virtual desk” for a refund for 2nd night because of the strong cigarette smell in room with my son and conditions of room said “no!”. I also, asked if there was anyone there I could talk to said “unfortunately not, this is a virtual desk” Definitely not the place for family vacationing.

• Archer (3/5): - It was right beside the beach The ceiling collapsed in front of the bathroom the first night around 12:45am, and we didn't get in touch with anyone until the next day around 9:30. They gave us two other rooms with two beds to replace the room with three beds but one of them was dirty with the last guests things in there and unmade dirty beds and the wrong key was in the lock box for the other room. So we had to call again and didn't get situated in the new rooms until at least 11:30. And they wouldn't even refund us for at least one night. They offered an extra night for free but we couldn't because we had to work and all they offered was $100.00 refund and it was alot of roaches, I killed at least 4 to 5 every time you turned the lights off at night

Everything from initial contact to confirmation of reservation was difficult. 1st room offered has animal feces visible on the floor. Second room offered lacking basic amenities. No Bathroom tissue. The room was not the cleanest, the AC unit filters were filthy, the floor had sand all over it. I found many building code violations and health code violations. The room housing the vending machines was crazy hot. The vending machines and the change machine were not working. The metal stairs by the front desk are in terrible shape and terribly corroded and structurally questionable. Hugh liability trip hazards from the anti-skid strips that were applied at one time. I heard many complaints from people that had had bad experiences with ceilings falling down because of Plumbing issues, door locks not working correctly, on and on and on, very disappointed

The comforter on my bed was burnt, which is both unsanitary and unprofessional. I was shocked that something so visibly damaged was still placed in a guest room. In addition, the stairwells and common areas were dirty, and trash was overflowing throughout the property. It gave the entire place a neglected and poorly managed feel. This is not the experience I expected or paid for. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the cleanliness and quality control issues immediately. I will not be returning and don’t recommend this hotel.
• Maria (2/5): Terrible communication with virtual check in - I booked this hotel because it is next door to where my cousin was staying and I wanted to be there for her wedding. I never even stayed in this place one night. They have a total virtual check in.I was never made aware of any check in process when i spoke to someone on the phone earlier in the day to let them know I would be arriving late. I got an email saying I will need a physical key and I would get information on retrieving it. They did not tell me how I would receive this information. I never received the information when arriving at 12 am in the morning there is no clerk no way to communicate and we had to find another place to stay.Upon our late arrival we spoke with a guest that also had issues with check in. I called and spoke with someone the following day and they put the blame on me and would not refund although I had all emails and texts they sent and none of it had any information that I needed to check in. They sent me the information a day later. I disputed the credit card charges and did receive my refund. I am glad now that we did not stay here. Being next door at my cousins place and seeing this place from above it did not look like a comfortable or well kept place to stay. The pool was very dirty looking. Definitely would not recommend this place. If they do not keep any clerks or anyone available who would you go to for any issues or anything you would need during a stay there? This hotels operations are inefficient and lack proper oversight.

• Joshua (1/5): Not great - Near the beach gave us rooms beside each other Dirty pool, bugs in hotel room , no staff anywhere to be seen, room was really dirty shower looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Pool didn't have a cutoff time kids running up and down the hallway at 2 and 3 am.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap and run down hotel; good location - Location is great; right on beach! Rooms were clean and we didn't see any bugs. Beds were comfortable. However, there was no deadbolt on the door. Room had no hangers at all and stairs up to room looked like they were about to rust through! There was no cleaning service at all during the stay. Shower was terrible! Pool was green and murky. I asked for a late check out and was told we could have one if I left a 5 star review on Google and sent them a screen shot. I declined since that is unethical. Overall, not a good experience.
• Chelsea (10/5): Very nice inn right on the beach at a great price! - We had the deluxe triple room and it was very nice. The rooms were clean, they gave us extra towels. The mini fridge and microwave were great. Just a short walk to the beach and a very cute pool (which we did not use, but looked nice). I received a door code to use for the room which worked right at check-in time. The tv in the main room wouldn't connect to anything. The parking lot is pretty small, so it can be difficult to find a spot. The room with the ice machine was absolutely sweltering.

Once inside room was ok, A/C worked great! The pool at the property was in poor condition and was very dirty when we went to swim. We decided against it and waited for pool cleaning people to clean things up. There was no shade poolside and no umbrellas for tables. There were also broken pool chairs lying around on the pool deck area.

• Eva Gabriel (8/5): Mermaids Inn is a good place to stay when at Myrtle beach! - Mermaid Inn, is a clean and affordable place to stay. This place is away from the crowds and gives you a side view of the beach! I enjoy staying here for a weekend getaway! It’s hard to find parking spaces when other people from other hotels park at this location.

• Ashton (6/5): - Pros: great location and easy access to beach. Hotel has warning that parking is limited, but we were able to park right at our room for both nights we stayed. Beds were decently comfortable. Appliances in room had cute retro vibe. Had DVR and good quality tv in room which was nice for the kids. Cons: Not as clean as I was hoping for, but you get what you pay for. Found a few dead roaches around the room, but no signs of bedbugs or live bugs. No front desk so there are no workers on site, which lead to people being rowdy and partying at night. Never felt unsafe while I was there, but it was hard to sleep at night due to the noise. Pool was very dirty which was disappointing as I had kids excited to swim in it. The floor and sides of pool were slimy and green. No elevator access, so if you’re assigned to the 2nd or 3rd floor you have to climb at least 2 sets of stairs but they warn about that. Overall, it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. If I didn’t have the extra money to spend on something nicer next time we’re visiting then I could stay there again, but I’d prefer better.

• Jennifer (6/5): - Room was big and sparsely decorated but clean which was awesome; however, if you want to get some sleep, you’re better off to stay somewhere else. First it was the occupants around and above us slamming doors, arguing, and playing loud music. Next were the fireworks until the fire department arrived. Not to mention the barking dogs, and the next door neighbors TV blasting at full volume. Then finally, about 5am, it quieted down. There’s no staff at the hotel as it’s all virtual so if anything goes down, it’s the guest’s responsibility to contact authorities and try to get a hold of an employee. I’ve stayed here before when the front desk was staffed and the experience was great which is why I booked again. Unfortunately, this isn’t my jam and we won’t be back.
