Guest Reviews
- Howie (6/5): - Pricey considering this is the off-season. Bed was firm and less than modern.
- Jonathan (10/5): Incredible stay at the Margate - We had a 1 and a half hour drive for a 4pm check in. On the mobile app I noticed a spot for a 1pm-2pm check in when available so I checked it off. We arrived early and was met by a very pleasant woman at the front desk. She immediately made me feel valued. I told her the situation and she said we were In luck and made our electronic key card for the room. Upon entering we noticed a breath taking view of lake view which got everyone excited and set the pace for an Incredible stay of our overnight vacation. The view of the lake was a little extra but worth every penny. We will be returning guest and look forward to our next visit. The only thing I didnt like was we couldn't stay longer. Absolutely Incredible visit/stay!

- 18ainew (4/5): Outdated & unpleasant - We stayed here with our two kids for 2 nights. Extremely underwhelmed. Our room was in the "renovated" part of the property. There had been some updates to the room, but the property itself was old & dilapidated. The bathroom was so small & the floor was constantly wet as a result. Also note these are full beds, NOT queen.
The lake water was super gross, there was tons of seaweed & the ground was slimy. Fortunately, you could wade over to a nearby sandbar which was neat.
And I did not find the staff pleasant at all. I asked to take a bowl back to our room so my son could have cereal & they wouldn't let me - we had to eat in the restaurant, and pay for the breakfast buffet.
The rooms were not cheap & absolutely did not meet any expectation or standard. I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

- Marlessa (10/5): We stayed one evening at the resort, and had a really fun time. It was in an excellent location. - We enjoyed the beach bar I wasn’t comfortable that there was not a window or exit in the room other than the main door, But that is just my personal opinion.
- Christopher (8/5): Excellent stay. Great time. - The waterfront bar is great. We were married at Margate 9 years ago and love the place. The breakfast buffet was ok. The potatoes were cooked frozen and very in appealing.
- Cheryl (10/5): The grounds were very beautiful and relaxing and the service was spot on. - I like that our room was near the lake and not too far from the indoor pool. I wish that there were some umbrellas for shade at the outdoor pool because the heat was oppressive,

- Tom (10/5): - Great location on the lake beach bar staff were awesome! The whole area is well kept Being the last holiday weekend staffing for breakfast was short limiting the menu from what it was in my previous stay
- simon (10/5): -
- Eugene (10/5): - room was very clean everything was in good order and room was very comfortable na
- Keri (9/5): Would recommend - I stayed there as a vendor for a wedding. They staff was phenomenal. They were able to move my room closer to the ceremony location. The day of coordinator was so beyond helpful. I appreciate all the small things. They were helping me light candles and offering to help move items with me. As a wedding vendor this was your dream staff. They also had a txt number you could txt if you needed something as a guest. We ordered take out one night and needed some forks, we sent a txt and not even 5 mins later a gentleman showed up at the door with forks! Thank you guys!

- S4522WOandrewt (2/5): Not for the price in the off-season - Our room had tons of fruit flies. The room was dated in style and decor. The wallpaper in the hallway was peeling. The indoor pool was satisfactory. The hot tub and sauna were satisfactory. No on site bar or food? When booking online I mentioned my wife, my kids, and I were celebrating our 20 year wedding anniversary. Thinking a $300+ night stay would elicit something personal or a nice touch from the hotel (card, flowers, bottle wine, something at check in from the desk saying congrats) but we got nothing. For this type of money for 1 night, something should separate this hotel from other typical, standard, good/average hotels and unfortunately for my experience, the Margate is not anywhere near a 3 star hotel. If the rate was $120-$180 then the experience would match the service. If the Margate typically has more to offer during the summer season then during the off season the price should come way down. The desk worker at night did try to rectify the fruit flies and our miserable experience by offering a newer room. But the newer room only had 2 double beds (we booked 3 beds on purpose and paid extra for the space). The worker offered a cot for the newer room. However there was no mention of a reduced rate and she left me to assume I was going to pay the same amount for the 2 beds and a cot. Unfortunately I will never use the Margate again and seeing as I frequent the lakes region, I will make sure I let others know of my experience

- FarAway26435983513 (4/5): Not worth the money - Superb location on Lake Winnipesaukee. Would probably be fine for summer. However we paid over $400. a night for a beachfront room. Room was just OK. Nicely decorated and adequate in size. View was superb and walk out was great. However it ends there. Wall paper peeling off walls, no microwave, tiny little counter above fridge barely usable. Shower curtain too short and flooded bathroom with use. Heating unit/AC falling off wall and loud. Dish TV was totally useless. No guide or instructions to use. Got 1 news channel which would not stay tuned. As with some previous reviews would have been OK if not overcharged when nothing open or offered in late Oct. No continental breakfast or anything for purchase. Had coffee, but never bothered to get it. Would have loved if they offered a fire pit or some outdoor activity for guest. Had a beautiful stone fireplace that looked like ha never been used. Charged a 50 dollar deposit (refundable) for incidentals which I questioned as nothing to buy?? Was a real drag going out for every meal we needed. Steer clear. Staff unfriendly and refused us early check-in when our section of hotel was almost empty. I do not mind paying if I feel I get my moneys worth, but felt taken advantage of. Need new owners!!
- Claire (9/5): Enjoable - Easy reservations made, quick check in and comfortable room. Very little noise so slept well No breakfast or dining area
- Noelle (2/5): -
- Darling (7/5): Wedding event was beautiful. - Parts of the property had a beautiful view of the lake We stayed in the ‘Inn’ which was across the street from the main building - not very convenient. There was traffic when crossing and no elevator in the building.
- Douglas (9/5): -
- Justin (7/5): -
- SUSAN (4/5): ok - new furnishigs room location over parking lot.
- Medeiros (10/5): - The beds were very uncomfortable they need to an upgrade to their mattresses they creaked and they were very uncomfortable. The room was clean. No other problems except for the beds.
- Nina (8/5): -
- Sagar (9/5): Great view and location - Location was good and the reservation desk was kind enough to help upgrade from Inn to Lakefront
- Debra (6/5): - the cigarette and musty smell in the INN part of hotel was nasty. very dated rooms and standard to more of a lower end stay rather then fee they charge. You are definitely paying for lake stay
- Stephen (7/5): - It was right on the lake. The room was nice. The pool and hot tub was nice also but needed a little upkeep. The hot tub light was dangling out underwater which worried me a little bit and some of the walls in the pool area needed to be repaired Never told us there would be a wedding going on with loud music till 10:30 at night and then a bunch of drunken guests from the wedding hanging around all hours of the night making noise. Would have thought that we should have gotten a big discount or at least been warned that that was going to happen
- 43phillym (2/5): Margate is rundown. Look elsewhere if you want to stay on the lake. - The hotel is rundown and dirty. The “newly remodeled “ rooms should have been advertised as “we put a tiny bit of lipstick on a pig”. The in-room amenities are scarce and cheap. The sheets and towels are thread-bare. The “new” wallpaper is curling off the walls. The grounds are unkept.
- James (10/5): - Close to what I needed
- Mark (8/5): -
- Alisa (8/5): -
- JOHN (10/5): - we came for a beautiful wedding! it was great ,the venue and the staff, the details was perfact.the bride and groom was so beautiful and handsome! the view from#31 was fantastic!beautiful sunset over water .we will be back and will tell others what a great place to stay!
- Audette (10/5): - Beautiful view - very clean Outdoor bar closed for season

- reneegC1378ZX (6/5): Only good for the beachfront - Waterfront is always great, and the beach was well maintained but the hotel itself was not. Not sure if it's a staffing issue. The pool was "cloudy" and the hot tub wouldn't turn on. Coffee maker was not clean and got charged for a cot when I already paid way too much for the room. Had dinner at the gazebo beach bar which was nice, but food took a while, and it was cold by the time it reached us (plus bluecheese smothered fries were not very smothered at all) So overall it was not worth the price we paid. Only would recommend for the beachfront
- ckenney (8/5): Labor Day weekend - We booked 8/31 & 9/1 (Labor day weekend) directly through their website.
We spent the extra money and booked a Lakeside room which has beautiful views and easy access to the beach, tiki bar, indoor pool etc. The only complaint is that we believe there should have been a notation on the website that the Tiki bar and onsite restaurant would be closed on Labor day. We had hoped to not have to search elsewhere for places to eat during our stay. Also, be aware that the less expensive rooms in the Inn Building are located across the road from the main Resort. All being said, we enjoyed our stay but recommend checking with the resort itself for any planned closures of the advertised amenities.
- gaitho (6/5): -
- Roberta (4/5): Disappointing - I had great expectations for a nice stay as I had heard great things about the Margate. I was so disappointed! We stayed across the street from the main hotel building. The place was old and outdated. There was no elevator. The air conditioner barely worked. The decor and the cleanliness.
- Scott (6/5): - Enjoyed our stay
- Timothy (9/5): Favorite place to stay for a concert - Breakfast, Tiki Bar
- dawn (9/5): -
- Jeanne (9/5): Good location for the concert venue, and hope to return for a longer stay sometime. - Given some misleading info re: getting to the BankNH Pavilion, but I eventually found it.
- Roger (8/5): - The staff was friendly. The rooms were comfortable. Nice setting. Good food. All things considered, it was a pretty nice place to visit. Free for all parking. They could have figured the most convenient way to the room from available entrances.
- Dina (6/5): Margate WAY overrated! - My boyfriend and I were assigned a very SUB-par room across the street from the main buildings. It was VERY noisy and we could constantly hear people above us.
TOTALLY unacceptable!! I will never stay at this property again unless I'm given a room in a lakefront building. Also, barely any products for self-care, a small TV, NO breakfast included. The ONLY positive aspect of this property is the dock restaurant/bar.
- Judy (10/5): -
- David (8/5): - Simple to get around! Would come back again!
- Kim (8/5): -
- Kerry (10/5): - Love location! Great restaurant on the lake.
- Martha (4/5): Be careful that you know what you are getting - Most of the Margate is on the lake which is lively and there is a nice indoor pool and hot tub I did not realize when I booked it that our room is NOT on the resort but across the street in a two story walk up motel building that has seen better days. My husband uses a can so I had to carry our bags up the stairs by myself. There is no help from the hotel. The room was comfortable but rug was stained and the art on the wall had a broken frame. I felt that what was advertised and what we got were not the same. Disappointed
- Debra (10/5): Summer Getaway - The lake being right there Sitting at the outdoor beach bar and waiting over 30 minutes to be recognized we wanted to order again
- james (7/5): - The water front was great The beds in the room we stayed in were old and very uncomfortable, the bed squeaked every turn you took . For the price I would preferred a more comfortable bed
- Suzanne (7/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): Great beach, indoor/outdoor pool, beach bar with restaurant, and sunsets! - Amenities are great with indoor and outdoor pool, very nice hot tub, and top notch lake beach with beach bar and restaurant. It’s a great spot to experience the lake and everything the area offers. Very enjoyable sunset and atmosphere for a vacation getaway for couples or families. Nothing
- Pesiridis (8/5): - The lake and the bar. I asked for a room with the ocean view, but I didn't get what I reserved. I was told to speak with Booking
- Cheri (10/5): - Would return!
- Wells (6/5): - Room
Had a strong musty smell
- steven (10/5): My family and myself had an amazing time with amazing memories!!!! - I have been a repeat customer I LOVE the way the staff will try and make you feel like you are like family (Dave the bartender is AMAZING!!! Victor is also great at his job!!) The one problem that did bother me was patrons were slamming doors very early in the morning!!!! I truly think the prices are a little high but it's such a great location and place to stay!!!! I also think trying to book a return stay is pretty much impossible.....
- Joanne (10/5): Great views, excellent staff. - The location was great, and staff were exceptional. The rooms are a bit pricey. Our toilet was very loose and I almost fell off of it.
- Katelyn (10/5): - Amenities are Amazing! Restaurant & Tiki bar on the water… beautiful outdoor pool… with indoor pool, hot tub and sauna option! Would definitely come back!
- William (10/5): Thank you for making it easy - All Nothing
- Carl (10/5): - Na
- Jaime (7/5): Great location. Expensive for a room with a view of a cemetery & parking lot. - The room appeared to have been recently renovated, the beach area was well maintained. The staff at the outdoor restaurant came in around 10:00 am and started blasting loud music while people were enjoying a quiet morning on the beach. No regard for the guests paying to enjoy the space. They came in and started shouting to each other etc. Beds were not very comfortable. Loved the shower and the overall look of the room. Great location.
- Margaret (10/5): Weekend at the Margate. - PHaving beach access to the lake as well as a bar and restaurant on the lake was wonderful.
- Matthew (10/5): A very enjoyable time - The location was Beautiful and the staff made you feel welcome
- carole (8/5): - We loved the beach and the beach bar restaurant! Reasonable prices and good food and drinks. We loved sitting by the lake enjoying it all!
- Elizabeth (8/5): Overall a nice place. I would probably stay there again. - Very clean. Staff was constantly vacuuming, scrubbing, grooming the beach and picking up after slobby guests on the beach. Very noisy in our room. No sound absorption in the hallways, doors easily slammed and we could hear almost word for word the conversation in the adjacent room.
- Lori (10/5): Weekend getaway at the Margate - We enjoyed our stay at the Margate very much! Loved hanging out at tae beach bar and watching all the boats on the lake. Bed was super comfortable and the buffet breakfast was delicious and filling! We will be back soon!
- Michael (8/5): -
- Mariah (10/5): - It’s a beautiful spot and the private access to the beach was amazing. Will definitely be back!
- Farah (8/5): -
- Saide (7/5): -
- Goodwin (10/5): Great spot to stay for concert nighs - The location was perfect distance from the Bank of New Hampshire Amphitheater. We had a two day stay, and the amenities were excellent, one-stop shop. Water front, indoor & outdoor pools, hot tub sauna and a beach bar. Close to shopping. Kind anr courteous staff. The beds and it needs to be updated just a little.
- Crowley (9/5): -
- maynard (9/5): - Loved this place
- DLD5 (4/5): Mediocre hotel with a value less than zero. - We stayed at this hotel for a wedding in July, 2025. The price for two nights was $822.
For that price, we expected luxury. That is not what we got.
What we got was a basic road side motel. Indoor/outdoor carpeting (not surprising as it is on a lake), AC kept defaulting to 73 degrees ; Toiletries were basic. Towels were small. There was not even a box of tissues in the room.
Families placed chairs at the door of their rooms. Again, fine for a road side motel, not for an expensive "resort".
The only saving grace was that it was the wedding venue and, thus, convenient.
BUT NOT AT THAT PRICE!
- Micheal J (10/5): - The bar by lake Winnipesaukee
- Subir (7/5): A Leisurely day at the Margate Resort - Good location. Facilities are good. Rooms are a bit spartan. Could do with some blankets
- ARNOLD (10/5): -
- Barbara (4/5): Never again - Noisy rude patrons. Outdoor pool too far away. On lake a boat gathering right next door to the beach. Ticks in the lawn.
- morrison (8/5): -
- Kathleen (8/5): Very good - Near lake
- Michael (10/5): - Great location, friendly staff, clean & comfortable, perfect for going to the concert at Gilford. Highly recommend.
- Talton (8/5): -
- Sonia (10/5): - Love everything enjoy the stay great customer service front desk and breakfast area as well
- John (10/5): - outdoor bar on water
