- TAKESHI (10/5): 旅館とホテルが融合した最高の宿 - 家族３人で２泊しました。 事前にいろいろな評価があってちょっと心配しましたが、結果は大満足でした。 名称のとおり、老舗旅館的ではなく、旅館とホテルのいいとこ取りを素晴らしいバランスでされていると思います。 料理も格式ばった料亭のほどではありませんが、バラエティに富み、２泊しても飽きず、夕食朝食ともに美味しくいただきました。 夕食も朝食も部屋ごとの個室で、そこで食事をしている間に布団の上げ下ろしをしてくれます。 部屋や設備も掃除が行き届いており綺麗です。 外国人スタッフも含めて全員の応対も好感が持てるものでした。 リラックスコーナーには、お水（地下水で美味しい）、ジュース、コーヒー、スパークリングワイン、アイスが無料であります。 庭も美しく、特に夜のライトアップは最高です。 駐車はバレーパーキング方式で、玄関口で鍵を渡す方式で到着時、出発時ともに便利です。 アメニティもロクシタンなどで素晴らしい。 ネガティブな評価は、高級老舗旅館と比較している人などなのかなと思いました。また、そういった評価をもとに常に改善されている宿だと感じました。おススメです。

- Verified traveler (10/5): Best of Japanese hospitality - This is my first visit to an onsen resort. Japanese hospitality at its best. They treated me like a royalty. The kaiseki banquet dinner and a full Japanese dinner are included in the price. I had a patio onsen bath with an outdoor view as well as an access to their public bath. This is a great deal compared to an equivalent amount of money spent in a decent hotel in a major US city.

Tout d'abord, le personnel est merveilleux et engage tous les moyens pour se faire comprendre si l'on ne parle pas japonais (pancartes, fiches explicatives). On y va pour tenter l'expérience d'une vie japonaise en revêtant des kimonos (si l'on souhaite) pour déambuler dans l'hôtel et ses multiples lieux dédiés à la relaxation et la contemplation (onsen privé ou collectifs, jardin, terrasse, aquariums) en buvant du thé ou du café à disposition. Les chambres de style japonais sont sobres mais spacieuses et confortables et ajoutent encore à l'expérience d'un séjour d'évasion. A cela il faut ajouter la cuisine proposée par l'hotel, traditionnelle et complétement hors des clous de notre culture. Le dîner et le petit déjeuner sont des expériences à part entière qui méritent à eux seuls le séjour. Loin du tumulte de Tokyo, le séjour permet d'opérer une coupure bienvenue et inoubliable.

The Japanese breakfasts & dinners served in private rooms were enjoyable and not having to sit on the floor chairs to eat it was appreciated for a couple of 'mature' guests such as ourselves ! Having opted for sleeping on mats rather than western style beds, the setting up of bed and tidying away was very efficient - we did have to supplement the bottom mattress with a spare as they were quite thin and a good nights sleep necessitated the extra thickness. Staff were very friendly and there was always someone who could speak english to assist with any questions. Although there is a complimentary shuttle bus and transfer to and from the JR station, the walk into Nikko was very pleasant and easy.

We had 4 meals of similar cold starters which we did not enjoy. All in all, the quality of the Kaiseki meals needs to be improved.

At Okunion, we had a room with a private onsen which was delightful with a particularly pretty view of the gardens. We ate our delicious meals in a private dining room and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was quite comfortable and my only suggestion would be to offer another chair in the sitting area. Nikko is beautiful and well worth the trip.

Meticulously clean and decorated private and public spaces; well landscaped. Staff both friendly and professional. The ryokan catered to my need for a more "Western" diet for both breakfasts and dinners. Highly recommend for any visitor to Nikko.

From the second you walk in the door to checkout, staff went above and beyond to ensure that all of our needs were attended to. Guest rooms are clean, comfortable, and packed with amenities (tea, coffee, snacks, TV, massage chair). Located in a quiet area of town, but still close to the main tourist attractions of Nikko. Highlights of our stay: 1 - private outdoor bath looking out onto Japanese garden 2 - food - Kaiseki style dinner and Japanese breakfast. Unique and delicious experience! 3 - hotel amenities - public onsen (both indoor and outdoor), sauna, manga library, just to name a few. Price per night may seem higher than other hotels in the area, but a fantastic deal considering it includes two beautiful meals, spacious rooms with private outdoor bath, and spa access.
- Clemence (10/5): Amazing Experience! - Simply amazing! We booked an Aqua Deluxe suite for our 5th wedding anniversary and could not have been more happy. The room had its own outdoor private onsen and it was so new and clean. The staff was so attentive and the service was second to none. We were surprised with a small souvenir for our anniversary, very surprised and touched by the gesture. The food was also absolutely yummy and so well prepared by the chef! They even cleaned the windows of our car! Now that is service! Highly recommended and only wished we could have stayed 2 nights. The deluxe room is almost always booked so you have to get in early. We don't understand Japanese, and misunderstood crucial info obtained from the JR ticket counter servicemen at shinjuku ticket counter. Luckily, the hotel is very helpful. On the day we reserve the shuttle bus to JR station at the hotel reception counter, the hotel found the JR departure schedule that we provided to him had sth strange. He double checked for us and found out a problem, and then he notified us how to fix it immediately. Afterall, we were able to catch the JR train and transfer with their help. Thanks to his help, we saved a lot of time in this trip!

On next day, the front desk manager proactively asked our day plan (heavy rain), called golf club to cancel our game earlier booked and confirmed the course was closed due to bad weather, as we wanted too. Good save of our time driving there.

We received a 'welcome drink' and the lady who took us to our room made us tea while explaining the details of our room. The 'western' style bed we requested was very comfortable, the rooms were spacious and the private bath was truly luxurious. The meals (dinner and breakfast) were out of this world! The only negative in the experience was that, while Expedia mentioned that there was a free shuttle to the hotel from the train station, the shuttle service in fact did not start until 2 pm. Our train arrived in Nikko at 12:50 pm so we had to make alternate arrangements to get to the hotel.

- ken (10/5): Beautiful hotel very friendly staff - Beautiful spacious ryokan. Our room consisted of an entry, dining room Japanese style main room with low table with seats, another room with a couch & a wonderful massage chair and a deck overlooking a stream. While having dinner our room was made up for sleeping. I am not fond of some of the veggie & seaweed but the food was beautifully presented and many of the dishes were delicious. Very nice onsen. Staff was wonderful & helpful. Pickup & return to station was helpful.

- Mariana (10/5): Gorgeous hotel with extremely spacious rooms - The location is gorgeous with lovely views of the Nikko natural scenery. The rooms are very spacious and are larger than many 1 bedroom apartments; includes massage chair, coffee machine, filtered water, separate dinning area with second TV, CD player in 2nd lounge area, plus balcony and a separate mini lobby area. Staff are super friendly and attentive.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Ryokan in a ideal location - Ideally situated being a short 10 min cab ride from Tobu-Nikko train station, and a 15 min walk from temples and sites of Nikko. Hotel has complimentary on-call shuttle service. Setting is impressive, somewhat isolated from town in that traffic and tourists are not within ear shot or visible, forest surrounds the hotel and a nice creak flows below Staff speaks passable english, service was top notch, staff addresses you by name and is accommodating toward requests (for instance coffee at breakfast) Rooms are large, very cushy, include lots of amenities (hot water dispenser, air purifier, massage chair, etc). My room included a private exterior patio with a 2-person soak-in tub that overlooked a koi pond, the creek, and the woods. Food is very good, dinner was many courses and included sashimi, sliced beef, assorted seafood, etc. Breakfast was also very impressive: salad, seafood, natto, miso soup, etc. Would highly recommend.
- Martin (10/5): Stunning Nikko and wonderful ryokan! - Wonderful stay at traditional japanese ryokan. Service was first class, they picked us up from the JR Nikko station on the first day. Provided lovely welcome drink and snack before explaining details of the hotel and helped to plan our itinerary for the next 2 days. Dinner was immense what a feast - 8 courses included in the rate which was expensive but worth it. Breakfast we opted for japanese which was a bit more tricky than dinner re foods but still an experience. They also offer western breakfast of we go back we will opt for this. Tried the public onsen - delightful after king day hiking and after you get over getting naked but the Japanese are very proper! Comfy yukatas to wear around hotel and comfy futons as well. Hotel offers shuttle bus in the morning to the station or shrines so easy to get around Nikko and surrounding beautiful mountains. Highly recommend a trip here! Worth the extra for large spacious traditional rooms with breakfast and dinner. We have stayed in many ryokans on our trip but this one was definitely a highlight!
- Johnny (10/5): Great retreat and wonderful service! - A bit further away from the main town, Tokugawa Hotel is a wonderful retreat and full service hotel with breakfast and dinner included. The food was fantastic, and you can enjoy it in your room. Wifi is a bit weak, probably the only weakness of the stay. You have the option of having a private outdoor bath if you choose the Yuki rooms. Free shuttle to take you into town and back. Can't recommend more highly!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great relaxing break from the city - Stayed 2 nights at this wonderful ryokan. Free pickup and drop off at Nikko station, delicious kaiseki meals that change daily, lovely gardens in a quiet neighbourhood. Not exactly easy walking distance from other places but the hotel is happy to pick you up for free at the end of your day outside. Got a free upgrade to a room with a private onsen in the balcony and had a great time relaxing in it and the massage chair that was also in the room. Highly recommended!

- Marion (10/5): Incredible experience all around - This was my first stay in a proper ryokan and what an experience this was. From the start, we have been treated so well by the staff, offering a shuttle pick up service and collecting us at the station and dropping us off at the temples whilst taking our luggage to the ryokan. Our room was Japanese style with private bath on the balcony and half board. The kaiseki cuisine was an absolute treat and a fantastic experience- even if you don't like everything in Japanese food, it's definitely worth trying it and experimenting new tastes and the beautiful presentation and dishes. We enjoyed the Onsen after dinner. The futon were so comfortable. We enjoyed our private bath outdoors in the morning before having breakfast in our own private booth with a view over the garden. The staff was incredibly kind and paid attention to every detail. I forgot my phone charger in the room and they actually managed to get it back to me by leaving it for me to collect back at the station. Overall an amazing experience that I will never forget.
- A. Chang (10/5): Excellent ryokan with exceptional staff/amenities - Staff was unbelievably friendly and accommodating. They even help you plan your sightseeing trip around Nikko! Pickup and Dropoff shuttle service to Nikko Station was a huge plus. I stayed in their room with a private open-air bath. The room itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable. They give you an abundant amount of free tea and coffee; all of which were delicious. I can write forever about the open-air bath but, for brevity, I'll simply say that I have never felt so relaxed in my life. The food was delicious. Dinner was in room and breakfast was in a private "booth" with a full view of their beautiful garden. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I can't wait to stay again.
- george (10/5): This is truly a. Ultralight event - The location is in the mountains above the unesco wiirld heritage site of Nikko. You can walk to the sites if you don't mind a bit of s stroll. We didn't know we were staying at a hotel where you go deep into Japanese culture. The minute you arrive you don a kamono and learn the tradition of the Japanese bath. We dined on the mats in our room and bathed outside in mineral hot springs. This is not just a hotel it is an experience.
