- Pal (8/5): It was just a stopover to catch train next morning - Not too far from the station N/a
- Liz (8/5): We found all the surroundings’ - Thé people we met were very kind and helpful but there was a lot of time when there wasn’t anyone there at all. The weather !!!!!!!
- Willett (10/5): Excellent - Good welcome, we were moved to a room with easier access and quickly taken to it. It was quiet and spotlessy clean. Parking arrangements were convenient in such a busy area Nothing
- Paul (7/5): Great location amd a good quiet nights sleep. - Location bathroom a little tired cosmetically though fully functional with good shower
- Matevž (6/5): - Quite good, quiet location, walking distance to everything Bed size, bed sheet to small so it couldn’t be tucked under the mattress and revealed a plastic-lined mattress during the night, windows not closing tight, resulting in cold, narrow and steep stairs leading to the room.
- Joanna (4/5): Meh - Location, parking Bathrooms smelt bit damp. Lino bit manky in bathroom. Cracks in walls. Beds old with pokey springs. No sound proofing - could hear people coming and going and moving around.
- Carl (7/5): -
- patrick (4/5): Very disappointed - Breakfast was not available, we were just give a flyer of recommended places to eat.
The carpet was very dirty, the walls were scuffed, the ceiling paint was flacking off
Luckily we were only staying for 1 night for a family event, the next morning when we packing to leave we found a pair of dirty pants in the top of the wardrobe which we hadn't used. Unacceptable! See above
- Reginald (8/5): -
- Dayron Gonzalez (8/5): -
- Binny (6/5): Value for money - Cheap price Little space
- Kimberley (2/5): Perfectly located for us but it wasn’t a comfortable night at all. Beds were grubby and we were right at the top of the - Location Cleanliness and noise
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Korede (2/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Great location and excellent value for money - Love this location, hence making three stays in quick succession. The noisy residents above prove that you need better insulation!
- Richard (7/5): -
- Graham (5/5): Done the job as only wanted to get head down for the night . - Ok location Very small shared shower/ toilet
- Cloé (8/5): -
- Forbes (7/5): A nice hotel pretty close to the attractions in Portsmouth - Good value and pretty convenient location A bit difficult to park and no elevator. Security was a bit questionable
- Claudia (10/5): -
- Laurence (8/5): -
- Julie (10/5): - Very good location, friendly staff Only that I was cold at might, could have done with a thicker tog
duvet
- E (6/5): - Overall my stay was fine and it’s great for the price. Staff are friendly and it’s in a good location not too far from transport links and close to Gunwharf Quays Unfortunately, on the last night there was some kind of incident in the room above mine and there was a lot of stomping, shouting and running around from around 11pm which was a little bit scary as a solo traveller. Eventually the police were called but it took until about 1am until things got quiet enough to get some sleep as the people who were involved spent quite a while screaming and shouting at the police. I appreciate this isn’t entirely the hotel’s fault and they took swift action when I called the after hours number but it’s not great that it happened in the first place especially as there seemed to have been people who weren’t staying there running around inside during the incident

- Guest (9/5): -
- Deb (8/5): A great value place to stay in excellent location. - Great location, clean and good value. Quite a few stairs to climb with suitcases. Basic, but perfectly comfortable.
- Sally (7/5): - We were able to park outside the hotel Our room was on the third floor and very small
- Anna (7/5): -
- Karen (7/5): - Staff were helpful by email as we would be arriving late. Good and cheap as a stopover. The room was tired and smelled damp. Carpet was dirty but it was quite cheap compared to other places around and we only wanted a bed for the night.
We paid the hotel £5 for a parking permit. What they neglected to tell us is that parking was free from 6pm till 8am. They knew we wouldn't arrive till after 10pm.
Anyway that's it.
- William (7/5): -
- Higgins (7/5): -
- Ally (8/5): - Loved the size of the room and bathroom. Very clean and comfortable.
- Christopher (6/5): Good location. - Great location. Comfy bed The one bathroom for several rooms is pretty crazy. It was very small too. The TV in the room is very small.
- Stallwood (10/5): Cute and humble - Cute and humble little hotel with good service. Has all the basics covered Booked for late checkout and had a knock at the door for the normal checkout time.
- Eddy (9/5): Absolutely amazing staff very nice, we were up from 1 am and they managed to help us check in an hour and a half early w -
- OyaOrhan (8/5): Good room but noise from upstairs - The room was clean, the location was good, beds were comfortable. Parking was not a problem. Only bad thing was we heard every step from upstairs. If you have a light sleep, the noises coming from upstairs can easily wake you up.
- Cynthia (10/5): Charming, personable find. In a world of bland hotel chains, support small inns. - I stated on both sides of the hotel and the loveliest amenity had to be the sun-filled rooms. Even on semi rainy days!
- Clare (9/5): Great location great value for money lovely staff - Great location, great value for money, lovely staff Tired bathroom facilities
- Helen (9/5): - Excellent location, clean and comfortable Nothing
- Sarah (4/5): - Very comfortable sleep Grubby carpet, poor facilities ie. cracked, peeling, worn, uncared for
- Franziska (8/5): -
- Jo (6/5): -
- Naomi (5/5): It was ok for a 2 night stay. - It was a good location for the beach and also Gunwharf Quay's. It's easy to walk to both locations.
It was ok for a 2 night stay.
The staff were ok. The room was tired and dated, needs a freshen up. It wasn't the cleanest place we've stayed. The TV didn't work properly and we ended up just sat on our phones in the evening, it was just me and my Daughter so couldn't do much after 8pm outside. The rooms were no smoking room but I could smell cigarette smoke from somewhere. The road looked quiet but was quite noisy at night.
- Mark (9/5): Road trip 2025 - Great location for pubs restaurants etc .parking was outside in the street ( chargeable) but reasonable .we got a very freindly welcome on arrival .lady explained everything we needed to know .the room was clean offering a kettle with tea and coffee, heaters air cooling .bathroom was clean with a decent shower. overall it was a good place to stay .good value for money . It was the last night of our road trip before going home .
- Lisa (7/5): Pleasant stay, would definitely recommend to friends and family - The location was excellent and parking permit was great Skylight. It woke us up at 5:30 am.
- Juan Antonio (10/5): Casi perfecto. - Limpio. Cuidado. Huele bien. Algo pequeño.
- Stokes (7/5): It's ok - Within walking distance of where we wanted to be for historic dock yard.
Parking even though on the road which cost £5 a day with a permit given to you by reception. Got a space quite easily
Lots of useful info in the hallway.
Bed was comfy.
Price was good for somewhere just to lie your head. Photos bit misleading to size of room the room was small but if your only sleeping there it's ok. The foot of the bed is very close to the wall, so you have to side shuffle to get to the toilet. The bathroom door opens up virtually on to bed.
The bathroom is very narrow, and the shower is quite tiny. Glass bottle in the shower!!! Only one person in at a time. Loud flushing toilet
Shower made floor very wet and went hot and cold. i assume other people being in the shower at the same time may have affected it..
The room is next to other rooms so you can hear other people coming and going. Hear people talking, snoring, and playing music.
Had to fill kettle up by using a cup as kettle wouldn't fit under the tap in the sink.
The headboard had a big scratch on it, which exposed foam underneath.
- Ben (8/5): -
- Paul R Gallagher (10/5): - I loved the Duke of Buckingham. It's clean, comfortable and exceptional value for money in the heart of Old Portsmouth and just a 15 min stroll to gunwharf Quays.
- Anna (8/5): -
- Maureen (8/5): - It was ideal for a base within easy walking of public transport, Gunwharf and other attractions. Spotlessly clean.
- David (8/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): Pleasing overnight stay after Victorious - Comfortable beds with good quality linen and towels. Staff were helpful. Quirky cottage property which added to its overall appeal. Very close to the Common for festival-goers. The bathroom was small for a family room
- Michal (10/5): - Ubytovali nás už dříve než bylo v podmínkách
Skvělá lokalita
Samostantné postele v dvojlůžkovém pokoji Pouze jedna společná koupelna/toaleta

- Robert Cassar (8/5): Short stay in a quiet part of Portsmouth. - The room on third floor was cosy and quiet. Staff was helpful throughout stay. The location is wonderful. I a quiet part of Portsmouth with easy walking access to all sites. Very close to the beach and the beautiful Anglican Cathedral 2 minutes walk away. It was my second stay there and I liked it. Plenty of pubs and breakfast places close by. Slightly hot room. There was no lift so had to take the luggage up the narrow stairs.
- Pearson (7/5): - Good location Small room
- Apfeld (7/5): - קרוב מאוד לפסטיבל בסאות סי מקלחת משותפת.מאוד קטנה
- Andrea (3/5): Incredibly underwhelming. - The staff on reception were lovely both in person and on the phone. The location was great. The photos of the rooms were obviously taken a very long time ago. The rooms are extremely run down. Scratches on bed headboard, carpets super worn and bathrooms very basic. The bed mattress was incredibly uncomfortable. Yes my room was a single but you could barely swing a cat in the room!I’m only 5”2 and found the room very claustrophobic. Desperately crying out for a refurb ASAP!
- Adam (6/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): -
- Kerry (3/5): Cheap but not cheerful. Only stay here if you absolutely have to! - Convenient location for Victorious Festival including a parking permit for £5 a day Road was incredibly noisy all night. Small room, paper thin walls, could hear everyone going to the bathroom all night as communal bathroom was right next to my room! Carpet was stained, bed headboard was stained (looked grim), didn’t even get a teaspoon with tea/coffee facilities (just a wooden stick) and no decaf or herbal options available.
- Penny (9/5): Overall a good option for central Portsmouth and the staff were excellent - Location & customer service Felt a bit tired/dated
- Gooden (7/5): -
- Julie (8/5): - Very clean and good sized room. Close to ferry terminal..parking permits available on quiet street..Straightforward check and helpful staff ..
- Mark (2/5): If it had been half the price I’d still feel cheated - Location and that’s all Smell of all the areas, lack of anything other than small bedrooms, signs of wear and tear throughout the bedroom and bathroom.
- Bennett (10/5): - The hotel is perfect for our needs
- James (8/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): Old Portsmouth is a great place to enjoy and the Duke of Buckingham is the perfect place to stay - We were in the little cottage at the rear of the former pub and it was away from the main street, hence fairly private.
Room was of a good size and had all the facilities you could ask for. It would work for a longer stay as well as a weekender given it had things such as an iron and ironing board, alongside a decent wardrobe.
The location was unbelievably well located only a handful of minutes walk from Spice Island, Clarence Pier, Southsea Common and the Gunwharf Quays complex. Plenty of very good pubs and restaurants on the doorstep too, albeit none of them particularly cheap. The fan was rather feeble and didn't make even the slightest dent in the baking temperatures we had during our stay.
- babelproofreader (8/5): Good for a short city break - Good location
- Guest (7/5): -
- Alla (10/5): Quiet clean hotel with pleasant staff - Everything you need to relax after an exciting day at Portsmouth Docks. There's also a huge outlet just next door - your shopping experience will be amazing!
- giada benedetti (9/5): - Amazing reception staff. carpet
- Peter (7/5): -
- James (8/5): Comfortable and pleasant. - Great location, helpful staff, comfortable room with all you need to make your own tea and coffee. Parking permit for surrounding area £5 for the day. As always a few small things. But that would be nit picking. And unfair.
- Guest (9/5): -
- ingo (8/5): -
- Myriam (9/5): Great hotel -
- Darragh (1/5): Da evitare assolutamente!!

- Susan (3/5): Very disappointing. Misleading information regarding amenities nearby (there were none). Would not recommend this accomm - Nothing. Everything. Very basic. Huge amount of stairs to negotiate with luggage. Tiny room. Uncomfortable, hard pillows.
- Chris (8/5): Good value and comfortable - Plenty of sockets and everything needed for making several cups of tea.
Comfortable bed.
Tired furnishings but clean.
Receptionist very welcoming.
Good value in this location. Noise from other guests, banging on doors and shouting, trying to get someone in the building to let them into their room in the middle of the night. Noise from the floor above starting at 06:00 because of poor sound proofing between the floors.
- Jared (9/5): -
- Jason (10/5): - Clean , staff helpful, value for money No breakfast
- Kyle (7/5): -

- Mária (9/5): - The room was small, but clean and neat. My child had a separate bed which was lovely. We stayed 5 nights, a family of three in one room. We had a double and a single bed in there, bathroom with shower and toilet. Kettle, mugs, tea bags, coffee sachets sugar little milks, towels, ironing board with iron and hair dryer. A TV, on a rainy day did the job for us. Clean bedding and comfortable mattresses.
Nice staff members. On the last day we just left our luggage there after checking out, until our train time, that was really helpful to have a safe space for them without spending extra money. Amazing location as well, close to the beach (5 mins walk), Clearance Pier is about 10 mins away, Gunwharf centre is 10 mins and the train station is about 15 mins away. Cannot fault the service, the place and the comfort. The room size could've been bigger, but that's on a characteristic feature of an old building. Overall we had an amazing visit and we would go back again to Duke of Buckingham.
- Neal (1/5): - Not a lot Smelly room. Tired
