Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay. Thanks, Bud! - Bud was very hospitable and overall great! Externally, very aesthetic and inviting. The interior can definitely use some TLC, but it really also depends on your expectations. It’s a country house so don’t expect anything lavish or over the top. Another reviewer wrote that it’s like staying at grandma’s. Couldn’t agree more. If you like trendy and fancy, this is not the place. If you like rustic, quiet and low key- this will do the job. We enjoyed our stay.
- Walter (10/5): Cozy and Convenient - A cozy spot set back from Mountain Road along a beautiful river. Warm and embracing. Convenient to everything. Bud is an amazingly gracious and generous host. The breakfasts are awesome.
- Richard (8/5): - Quaint and beautiful setting for a true Vermont experience. Friendly host.
- Susana (8/5): - Kind of uncomfortable bed, bathroom is small and bed sheets are microfiber therefore, a slight movement tends to allow the fitted sheets come off. Building is old NN n
- Maria (8/5): - Fiddler's Green is a farmhouse/inn. It is basic, clean accommodations with no frills. Rooms are en suite. I was very satisfied since I was not spending time there and it was convenient to my venues. Old fashioned down home hospitality!
- GARY (8/5): Fiddlers Green Inn - Very quaint clean inn.Friendly ,welcoming owner and the other guests are just as friendly as well.Breakfast was served in the morning.Eggs, bacon, french toast. All cooked by the owner himself.Overall a pleasant stay. However it was about 90 degrees out that day and a fan in the bedroom would be nice! Would still go again.
- Chase (10/5): will recommend to my whole family! - Wonderful stay. Such an iconic New England b&b - could tell immediately upon pulling in. Warm welcome, flexible hosts, incredibly kind. Open kitchen, breakfast area is very welcoming, communal living room comfy. Bed room was clean and comfy too. Bud is a gem of a host. It’s not fancy, but that’s part of the charm.
- Prentiss (10/5): - Classic Stowe ski lodge full of wood and rustic character. Sound of stream out back.very cozy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The brook behind the inn is magical, it feels like you're in a Tolkien novel!
Besides that, the inn keeper here is extremely loveky and was super kind and patient when i was experiencing card issues.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If you have allergies to dust, this is NOT a good place to stay. Carpeting is old and dusty in the bedrooms, hallway, and TV room.
But if you don't mind that and want a rustic feel with a spot by a river, then you can experience a home cooked breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cute place with welcoming living room and pleasant host.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bud was an excellent host who made us feel at home throughout our stay in Stowe. The property is 5 minutes away from the mountain and 10 minutes from Main Street in Stowe. He cooked us delicious breakfast every morning and provided us excellent suggestions for dinner. He encouraged us to utilize the common living room space, which was extra cozy especially when the fire was running. Definitely recommend the Fiddler’s Green Inn to anyone who is looking for an authentic, homey stay at Stowe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice older place ,rustic close to stowe excellent service and super friendly informative staff.
- Carroll (10/5): - This is a wonderful B&B that i would happily stay at again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bud was a great host. Breakfast was delicious and he was even friendly enough to tow our car out with his truck when we got stuck in the snow!
The room was small but all we needed for a ski weekend. Personal bathroom included with room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quaint Inn, super helpful and kind owner. Will definently back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Me and my 2 sons stayed here and went skiing at Stowe. Very close to mountain. This farmhouse was very relaxing and Bud is an excellent host. We had some good laughs. I certainly will be staying here again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The host is pleasant and provides a nice breakfast. The Inn is badly in need of refurbishing. The entry was dirty and our room was too small for the king bed. We could hardly move around it and had little room for our luggage, The floor was dirty. The bed is too soft and the sheets kept slipping off the mattress. A very disappointing experience.
- Disapointed (4/5): - This B&B is way overpriced. The bed was awful. The sheet kept coming off and it was very uncomfortable. Bud was very nice but he needs to get some new beds and a cleaning service. Breakfast was good.
- David (2/5): a bad suprise - We walked into a dirty kitchen, to a room that more like a cabin for college students and a bathroom which you could hardly turn around in -- my wife wanted to cry -- we told the owner (nice man) that we could not stay here -- ever
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, just steps from a restaurant and Mini-mart. The owner Bud is a true Vermont treasure. Great breakfast, great front porch!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Charming rustic inn with babbling brook in the back and generous porch in the front. Host Bud was funny, relaxed, and just the right amount of being around and leaving guests to chat amongst themselves in the comfortable living room. The windows open to let the fresh air and babble of the brook in. Rooms are rustic and simple, bathroom was quite small but adequate. No lock on the bedroom door, just a simple latch so a nervous guest may be uncomfortable, but the friendly atmosphere helps relax any fears. Breakfast was delicious and generous. Not your average hotel, with way more soul.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The host was wonderful - very welcoming, truly loves what he is doing which is inspiring, property is breath taking. The only down side for me is that the guest room doors do not lock.
- Troy (10/5): Wonderful - Very nice people running the inn and incredibly welcoming to their guests. The babbling brook was amazing to sleep by and I loved the feel of the old, 1800s home. Great location and proximity to downtown Stowe. Only complaint is that I should've brought some extra pillows, as the two on the bed were a little flat. Would definitely book here again and should have gotten up a little earlier for the complimentary breakfast. Breakfast was made to order from 7:30 to 9:00, which is a great range. Came downstairs at about 10:30 and he still insisted on making us breakfast which was incredibly nice. Unfortunately, we had a couple things set up and didn't have time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unbelievably scenic back yard, very polite hosts and a great breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really like the owner, Bud, he made us feel at home and welcome. The brook in back of the building lulled us to sleep. It was very quiet and breakfast was amazing. This was my first stay in a bed and breakfast and I really enjoyed it!
- Steve (6/5): - Going to Fiddler's Green Inn was like going to Grandma's when I was a child. The home is warm and welcoming, but this is a HOME and not separate units. This is more of a Bed & Breakfast, not an "inn", at least what you are probably thinking in the 21st century of what an inn is.
If are in Stowe on a tight schedule, This place is not for you. Your host runs at the "retirement" speed, and would gladly talk to you all night and morning if you so please. Breakfast wasn't ready during the time appointed, and we ended up just going to get it somewhere else.
The house could be amazing if properly updated, but everything is really old & outdated. It's in need of a major updating. That is not to say it wasn't clean though.
In all, we made it through the time we were here, and are leaving only memories. My wife says she is going to pick the places from now on.
- Amy (10/5): Rustic charm and great service - If you are looking for a fancy-schmancy hotel shaped like a box, you will not appreciate the charm of the Fiddler's Green Inn. This rustic B&B is situated in a perfect spot between Smuggler's Notch and all that Stowe has to offer. The babbling brook was soothing, and the porch was a nice spot for our picnic lunch after my son's lacrosse games. The real treat was the service. The owner waited up for us because we had to leave late and had a long drive before arriving. Made-to-order breakfast was delicious (no powdered eggs here)! We visited Stowe on one of the busiest and most expensive weekends of the summer. The value of our stay was worth giving up some of the amenities found in your traditional hotels (such as a/c). We would stay here again.
- Carol J (10/5): Wonderful stay - We had a wonderful time exploring Stowe and The Fiddlers Green Inn was a very comfortable “home base”
- Jeta (10/5): So cosy and charming - This place is really cute, we had a room overlooking the river and with snow around it and the room all in wood design felt like a charming cabin. The owner Bud is very nice and friendly, makes a delicious breakfast and has great sense of humor, we met some really nice people conversing at night in front of the fireplace with other guests. Its not a luxury place but if you are looking for a nice cosy charming place to stay near the mountain this is just perfect. We had a great time and we are definitely going back for more weekend ski getaways.
- Rachel (10/5): Quiet Place - We had a room with a private bath and a window to a creek out back. The owner was very friendly and the room was clean. Beautiful location.
- MIKE & KATHY (2/5): owner was very nice, pleasant and welcoming - This was the dirtiest room that we have ever stayed in. From a dirty/stained bed spread to filthy baseboards, undusted, cobwebs everywhere as well as very dirty bathroom and a toilet that had someone elses stains on it (refer to pictures). We didn't notice when we checked in late afternoon since we were just shown the room and went out for the rest of the afternoon and evening before bringing in our luggage around 8:00 pm that night. King bed was 2 twins pushed together and matresses didn't quite match up. Certainly not what we expected or what was advertised. (WE SLEPT ON TOP OF THE BEDSPREAD)
- Kristen (8/5): The best of a Vermont experience! - Quaint Vermont experience: halfway between downtown Stowe and the mountain trails. Set way back from the road, so a peaceful, homey environment. Bud, the host, is an active, chatty character, knows the town and its people, good advice on where and how to explore. A true B & B experience, nothing fancy but quite relaxing. We were there in late August, and hope to return for a winter experience. Stowe is an amazing tourist-friendly place, yet retains its historic character. So much to do outdoors; great restaurants; unique shops.
- MC Lepine (10/5): Near the river - Nature, nature, nature. Near the water, far enough from the road to feel ''in the woods''.
- Ray (6/5): Mixed emotions. - This is a hard one to score. The high point of the place is that it is beautifully situated on a babbling brook. Great for sleeping and lovely to see!! On the other hand, this is a family owned Inn dating from 1820; and, other than it having running water and central heat, there are NO frills. In many ways, it would bed our kind of place, except that, for $100 a night, no effort, other than a new pressure treated front porch, has been made to maintain paint, window frames, etc. The lamps, furniture, and all furnishings are rummage sale quality. Breakfast was very good (eggs, pancakes, bacon, coffee and OJ). This an old farm house on a beautiful creek in the woods. Period.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Peaceful - Staff was very nice. Place was very quite and peaceful.
- Elaine (8/5): Good breakfast. Good value. - Inn Keeper was very personable. The inn is right on a rushing stream so soothing sound to get to sleep. Excellent french toast for breakfast. The bed was a little hard. Good value for a resort area.
- Perry (8/5): Excellent hosts, great breakfast! - We arrived during a snowstorm in Dec 2016. The driveway was snowy when we arrived but the hosts were able to clear it shortly after.
The rooms are more like a "cottage" than a hotel but we enjoyed our stay. The hosts were excellent as were the breakfasts. The hosts even made us an early breakfast when we were heading out to get an early start at the ski hill. Both Downhill and cross-country skiing are great in Stowe!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful place 3 miles from the mountain. Bud is a very entertaining person indeed.
- Alexandre (8/5): Rustic, charming, relaxing. Perfect for us! - Great hosts, charming couple. Bud is simply true and generous. Kindred spirit.
His wife Carol is lovely.
This is a rustic place, this is not a Hilton, so people who gives bad review are just mean and not at the right place. Just go to superficial places like you are...
- Kim-Yen (8/5): Great place for the price - You can't find anywhere less money in that area...Quaint...Quiet but close to activities...Feel like you're at your home because it's a small inn and you don't run into 20 zillion people as at a big resort...Accommodating...Friendly & personal inn owner/keeper...Some of his jokes/attitude are too personal & guests may not like those...I don't care for those jokes but on the same token I don't mind too much...He goes out of his way to accommodate you...I booked a king bed for myself and when my friend called asking to switch to a room with 2 twin beds he put 2 twin beds in without any additional charge...When I was late for breakfast he still made me a warm full breakfast...The place is beautiful! Behind it is a brook & you go to sleep with and wake up to the sound of water running in if you stay in one of the room that faces the brook...I just love it! So soothing...So natural but near everywhere...Very convenient...
- Jimmy (10/5): Awesome Experience - We spent a weekend at this B&B and it was great to say the least. Bud, the host, cooked amazing breakfast every morning and the rooms were great. It was very close to hiking and the Ben and Jerrys factory
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK - Bud was very, very nice. He personally cooks your breakfast to order in the morning, was delicious. Scenery and babbling brook out back was wonderful. Down sides: the room was a bit more rustic than I had anticipated. No TV's in the rooms. The bedding had a pet odor. The place is nice but could use a good over all cleaning.
- Rachel (10/5): Great find and best value for money - Warm and welcoming bed and breakfast without being intrusive
Excellent breakfasts on both mornings...and reassuring to know some of the other guests were return customers.
Picture book 1820s house with lovely walks nearby
Fully stocked convenience shop across the road and friednly pub and restaurant next door.
Liked it so much we extended our stay
- Allison (8/5): Quaint Country Inn! - Very quaint country inn located just outside Stowe, VT. Bud is a terrific host who makes an awesome pancakes! Decor is a little dated, rooms are comfortable and clean. Setting is outstanding, beside a picturesque creek with lots of outside seating to enjoy!
- Frank (8/5): Dated, but interesting, close to attractions - To be honest, if it were not for the proprietor, Bud, we would probably not go back. The building is old, but that in itself is not bad. It is in a historical area of Vermont, and we were looking for an authentic "inn" experience, not the glitz and glitter of The City plopped down in the country. The room was very small, the shower was a challenge for my 165 pounds, and I was not able to control the heat from inside my room. All that is just being honest. BUT....the owner met us at the door at 9:45 at night, made us feel wonderfully welcome, was personable and full of stories, and cooks a wonderful and filling breakfast. We will go back. Not for the room, but for the experience. I should add that the bed was comfortable and clean, the river out back is very cool, and if you were so inclined, you can walk easily to at least a dozen restaurants and several bike and ski rental shops.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We liked the location and the owners. the house is beautiful and cozy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed one night and enjoyed the inn very much. The owner was helpful and personable. The breakfast was great. We would definitely stay again.
- Diane (10/5): Babbling brook + best french toast - We had a really lovely, woodsy stay at Fiddler's Green Inn. Bud is a wonderfully friendly host, with a great sense of humour and real skills with making breakfast.
Beautiful, exposed wood makes the interior really cozy and relaxing, and nature was always close at hand. Such a relaxing experience!
