We have seen one security man was staring into our room from the swimming pool site, we can understand that security is responsible for safety, but his behaviour is obvious. Staring into rooms violating privacy of guests. We didt go to complain at the moment as we didnt want to ruin our mood and the moment, but we didnt like the thing at all. If you will communicate about this further with the hotel, he was a skiny dark skined, midaged man with very short hair.

- Krzysztof (1/5): - Bad experience. We booked 3 nights but could not stay and moved out after the first night the next morning. The hotel looks like it missed a major renovation 10 years ago. The outside areas were in very poor condition and generally neglected. There is a long list of issues, but to mention a few: very low cleanliness standards, bad smell in the rooms, dirty bedding, outdated facilities, and poor overall maintenance. The room did not feel comfortable or welcoming, and the condition of the property was far below expectations based on the description and photos. In our opinion, the hotel urgently needs refurbishment and much better attention to cleanliness and guest comfort.

Отель предоставляет полотенца только для бассейна, на пляж их брать нельзя. У нас был лучший номер с видом на море. Плюс номера большая ванная. Отель находиться в затяжной ремонте, несколько номеров обновили и туда заселяют, людей не много. На завтрак очень маленький выбор. В бассейне пахнет мусоркой, которая расположена рядом. Ресторана/бара в отеле нет. Ужасная система сейфа в комнате рецепшена с 2-мя ключами и столетними ящиками... В номере муравьи, от которых невозможно избавиться. Уборка так себе, шампунь/гель для душа в дозаторе рядом с душем, пользоваться не удобно. Очень слабый напор воды.

Staff inexperienced, young and not as helpful as other Sri lankan hotels which are more attentive, they lacked the Sri lankan charm all the foreigners love. Bildene som ligger på nett er veldig fine, men virkeligheten stemmer ikke. Vi var inne og kikket på rommene vi hadde fått og de så bra ut- virket som de var nylig pusset opp og kunne gjerne bodd der, men dessverre er det ikke bare rommet som teller når man er på ferie. Jeg skal være ærlig og si at vi fant et annet hotell. Bildene på Booking.com forteller dessverre ikke hvordan hotellet er. Vi var to par på tur og hadde sett de flotte bildene som lå ute på nett. Dessverre stemte ikke dette med virkeligheten. Resepsjonsområdet var nedslitt og stranden utenfor hotellet var ikke til å kjenne igjen på bildene som lå ute. Bildene viser flott basseng flotte solsenger - dessverre var det veldig få senger og hele uteområdet virket nedslitt og til dels forfallent.
- Louise (1/5): DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY THEY WANT. - The only thing to like was the location to the safe swimming area on the beach. The scruffy staff…the receptionist looked like she had just finished her housework. She was certainly not in the least bit welcoming. We were delayed arriving, by about 8 hours, through no fault of ours, but Emirates Airways, so we were very tired, but excited to reach our destination. (I had notified the hotel about our late arrival being about 20:00 hours, instead of the planned time 12:00 lunchtime….) There was insufficient number of sun beds to the guests staying there, and when we looked out from our balcony at about 7:00 am, next morning, they were already covered with towels!! Both bedside lamps did not work, and were covered in dust ( other people’s dead skin !!) the room and bathroom looked really unkempt, and not at all like the pictures on line!! The windows desperately needed cleaning, and the blinds cleaned or thrown away and replaced with new ones. We were told there was a small fridge, there was not! All in all, the whole hotel should have been renewed years ago, and the staff trained to be welcoming and at least polite. We would certainly not recommend this hotel as it stands right now, a super, prime position in the best family area around. We went in for breakfast next morning, which was supposedly buffet style, but was also very un inviting, and not hosted by friendly staff. I felt we were in the way, not wanted. We were then approached by a member of staff to say we had to pay for this pathetic breakfast …7000LKR. We paid, very reluctantly, and said we would not be staying here. So much more I could say, but this hotel is certainly not worth the cost, or the effort it would take me to put into writing what it really needs.

Hope there will be a good face lift to the building. Room conditions were fairly good. All the said amenities were there. You must bring round pin adaptors for device charging purposes which is one negative point noted in rooms.

The food at the hotel was excellent – there's something for everyone. The surrounding area really impressed me – gorgeous beaches, stunning sunsets, and incredible underwater life: we encountered sharks, crabs, colorful fish, and turtles! - dmalenfant2009 (10/5): Oasis of rest in otherwise disappointing town. - I was walking the beach just looking for somewhere to sit and have a bite. It is off season and so many places were closed to had very minimal services. At the Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel, Maleesha, Sudesh and Wihangi were very welcoming, they let me sit at my ease for a while, I had an refreshing juice and chef Umindu made me the best Pakora I've had in 4 weeks in Srilanka. The washrooms were clean and I didn't feel rushed even if I wasn't a hotel guest. They did ask for this review which I find in bad taste but I can't deny the service and food were great and I will go back if i come back to Hikkaduwa.

- April (10/5): The best view we had and best staff. - To sum up our stay, the staff accommodated us exceptionally well, even though we checked in after 11 PM. We truly appreciated that Ms. Sasini, the manager, stayed to welcome us with a warm smile and assisted us with all our room requests. As well as, the staff who served our breakfast, she even greet us for our Anniversary. (i forgot to take her name) We also want to thank Umindu, who patiently gave us a room tour to help us choose the best room based on our preferences. This experience made us very happy and left a lasting impression. It clearly reflects the kindness, hospitality, and helpful nature of the Sri Lankan people — going above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. Breakfast was great! We were full and satisfied thanks to the wide variety of options available. We chose the International breakfast since we were concerned the Sri Lankan food might be too spicy for our taste. That said, we do believe the Sri Lankan breakfast is likely excellent for those who enjoy that cuisine! The location is fantastic, right in front of the beach — perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. The facade of the hotel could definitely be improved. It’s clear from the outside that the building facing the ocean needs a fresh coat of paint, as it looks a bit worn out and dirty maybe because of the sea salt that make it look like molds.. However, the interior is well-maintained and clean, which was a pleasant contrast.

Taste wise they were 4/5. Location is fabulous and the pool is pretty good. Room balcony is definitely 0.5/5. Chairs were broken lights not worked cleanliness is so poor. In the room, there were spider webs and dusts in everywhere. Equipments are very old and didn't renovated. In conclusion, rates are definitely high compared with the quality. This is about maximum Rs.6500, 7000 only worth. View and the pool is good.

- Mahesh (5/5): Please update your door locks. - Location gave a nice view of the ocean. Requested an extra bed. They said it was the sofa bed. Matters was old. When I slept, it sank in. For a couple to sleep together......not good at all. The most dangerous thing was the DOOR LOCK. It was a disaster. The hotel really need to address the issue regarding their Door Locks 🔒. There was not enough parking space.
- Buddhi (3/5): Nice location but terrible service - Our room had a nice view and was really close to the beach which was probably a few feet away. The customer service was terrible, It took 3 days to actually verify if the booking was okay and when we arrived it took a hour for them to get our room ready. Our bathroom did not contain towels or soap and was not cleaned properly. The room was also arranged abit unprofessional and in a messy way and the beds were small such that two people could hardly fit in it, When we arrived we were given a welcome drink which contained a lot of sugar so much that you can hardly drink it, plus it was served in a cup that was half full,mind you all the glasses in the waiting area was like that, I wouldn't put it past them to serve us a drink that was served to someone else before.

- sithumih2025 (2/5): Worst - This was one of the worst hotels we’ve ever stayed at. I would not recommend it to anyone. The cleanliness and maintenance were extremely poor, and the overall condition of the rooms was disappointing. The buffet was nearly empty, offering very few options, and the food that was available lacked freshness. Additionally, the staff were unprofessional and unhelpful, making the entire experience even worse. For the price we paid, we expected much better service and facilities.

There are english speaking front desk staff (just ask for Shiva or Janaka if needed). I came from Canada via England as a retired successful business woman. Given my education and experience, I believe I have an understanding of customer psychology and how they want to be treated. I have travelled the world and stayed in different hotels. Understanding the customer is what makes a winning success and I believe Hikkafuwa Beach Hotel is on that road to success. The Gnl mgr, Robert from Sweden, is always improving and resolving. He understands the western tourist standards. Although it can't be easy, Robert meets with his staff regularly to promote proactive understanding of customer expectations. Customers are incredibly diverse and that too must be challenging. Plus, the elements from the climate, rain, salt water winds from the Indian Ocean takes its toll on the wear and tear of this gteat hotel. Its that close to the seas edge. Whilst it was closed for two years, the owner and manager is doing everything to keep it beautifully thriving. It survived covid and the tsunami damage. Well done! Slow suppliers are a hurdle everywhere. I've seen improvements after staying there 3 times. The English speaking office and front desk managers are more proactive and they are open to your face to face feedback. They've expressed eagerness to understand and improve. Suppliers are slowing up replacements for mal-functioning lamps, etc.etc. They're supppsedly aware and waiting. Comfortable beds, pillows and fresh bedding, fridge, bottled water, very clean, etc. The newer refurbished rooms are with ocean view glass balconies and lighter furnishings with lighter wood and a lovely atmosphere with accent colours. All rooms have high ceilings, pleasant atmosphere, flat screen TVs, stainless steel kettle with tea/coffee making. Lovely walk in showers with shower gel and soap is provided. Pool towels are at reception, and there's room service with a reasonably priced menu. Shishas are lovely and available. Some fun live music occasionally. Security all night. If you come back late, they'll be watching and allow your entry. Safety boxes are with your own key, you enter a door to the side of the reception. Breakfast buffet is with a delicious and healthy variety. Omelette making and delicious fresh fruit, etc.etc. Food in domes can be put on a plate for a staff member to heat in their kitchen microwave. Just ask a staff member to fill the coffee pot, or replenish where it's empty. They don't always proactively look and refill or maybe I got there too close to closing. Either way, they're happy to refill. Their food menu is available all day. They have a bring your own booze (BYOB) policy which saves the guest n cost. There's a liquor store, directly across the street and a few doors up with all. Location right on the beach. Front entrance has available tuk tuks and cars. On the street offers many shops, eateries and tour operators, snorkeling, surfing, etc, etc Housekeeping are very good. They've been trained to apply rules for quantity control. If you want flexibility with the rigid rules, just ask for the English speaking supervisor, he's always on one of the floors. Supervisor understands and smiles as he accommodates and gives permission to the others. For example, an extra towel or more water. Not all hotels are this rigid in your face but I get why they are. Different cultures may be taking with little regard for the costs to the hotel.

- Julia (3/5): Sorry, wouldn’t recommend. - Robert the Manager was really helpful. Good location by the beach - a very very busy beach. In Roberts absence the staff really played up, hanging about on their phones. Breakfast was dire, as other reviews have said, it wasn’t clean downstairs. The room was ok but we had a twin and the second bed was a put up bed which was lumpy and the sheets were stained!

Best location in the centre of Hikkaduwa, just at the beach which is good for swimming. Service was very good. Very minor comment - that the tea bags and coffee were not provided daily for the room.
- GoPlaces815069 (2/5): Very casual in their approach to the customers - They are very casual. The kettle did not work. There were no coffee sachets. The phones when connected to their wifi, did not get any internet worth the name. And when I wanted to complain, their intercom did not work. When contacted on the reception personally, the girl said, "Oh, the phone had connectivity issue," and connected the intercom. About internet, she said ,"Yes, it is slow." When she gave me another password, my message to my wife (she was in the same room) was delivered after 21 minutes. About coffee, they said, "Oh, there isn't coffee in your room?" About the kettle, the on-off switch was lose, so the waiter demonstrated the trick to switch it on. There were not many options for dinner. My wife who is a vegetarian, managed with a few pieces of pinapple. Worst thing about a service is that it is casual in approach to the customers. Yes, they are getting customers now, because it is their peak season. The room was good though. The linens clean and a view to die for. It is practically on the sea beach.

- vernerdenvall (8/5): Nice stay - This is a nice but a bit wornout hotel. It is right on the beach with many shops an restaurants around. Staff is very friendly with a swedish manager. They work in a relaxed style so you shouldnot expect fast service. We stayed one night in room 101 (avoid if you are not on a strict budget) and quickly moved to ocean view for a small extra cost. No bugs, no mosquitos but heavy traffic. Big waves so you have to watch out your children.
- Shivanthy (10/5): - Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel is located right on the beach, the ocean is just a step away. We couldn't have asked for a better location. The restaurant is open for limited time frames but room service is available throughout the day. Loved the view from our room, to get the sea view you have to book premium sea view. Comfortable beds and pillows. The staff was courteous and helpful. The Wi-Fi was spotty especially during peak usage but the view, the sea, sun and sand make up for it. Food service maybe slow at peak times but you need to understand that food is made to order and NOT premade. Breakfast is a delicious spread of Sri Lankan and Western dishes, with a good selection of breads, fruits and juices. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality at Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel.

Staff seemed to try their best to cater the best but something felt wrong there as the staff was not either geared or trained on hospitality.

I booked at the last moment, hence had to go with this. Realised, not worth the money and all the things are too expensive( such as breakfast etc.). Later, saw some much cheaper options in the surroundings.

- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay here - Do not stay here, possibly one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The room was barely functional, the glass to the balcony was majorly cracked, the bathroom barely stocked with 1 towel and a tiny piece of soap, the fridge was dirty and broken, we had wires coming out of the wall where lights were suppose to be. The food at breakfast was disgusting, I asked for a clean table and they proceeded to seat us at a dirty table without any effort to clean it and left the previous guests dirty napkins! I honestly don’t understand how this hotel is supposedly 4 stars. It should be shutdown.

Fridge, quiet air con and easily adjustable, tea and coffee making, iron and board, tv, lots of bottles of water. Smiling staff. Fresh fruit at breakfast, omelette corner, and good Sri Lankan coffee at breakfast. Not far from bus station, Sudhas Eatery, Red Lobster restaurant and many others. Turtle beach close by. Use Google translation to sigahlese if you need to communicate with most staff members. Managers speak well, they learned to school. Housekeeping very good.v I stayed 11 nights and toured from thete. Club like music at b'fast. Music choice needs to be appropriate. Food not kept hot, but I asked for microwave reheat, which was ok by one of the staff members.

Room ac was broken when we arrived.Staff was too lazy and didn't bother to help us at any instance.Food was too salty and unappealing and there were no options in breakfast menu.Staff didn't bother to serve us food and everything was late.They didn't serve us dessert or water even.It was a truly horrible experience,I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.
- sanj5678 (8/5): Family Holiday 2024 / Srilanka ♥️ - Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel is located at one of the best spots on the Hikkaduwa Beach. The view from our premier ocean suite room was breathtaking. Their newly renovated rooms were very spacious, minimalistic and tastefully done. Few minor issues were there which were immediately taken note of by Mr. Robert and looked into on priority. Staff were very courteous and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Special mention to Mr. Sivashan who took care of our every need right from booking, to airport transfers, meal options, local guidance, ensuring the pool renovation was done speedily and arranging a day tour to the Sinharaja Rain Forest, thank you@Sivashan for all your help 🙏🏽. Their food was delicious with a good variety of dishes from Western and local cuisines. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel as it ticks all the boxes for us - location, scenery, comfort, good food, service and total value for money.
