Guest Reviews
- Selena (3/5): Great overall just couldn’t sleep in due to staff - Very clean property, quiet, and beautiful. Checkout was at 11 and I had staff knocking on my door to clean for checkout at 8:30 in the morning.. so I couldn’t really enjoy my morning or sleep in a little bit because the Male housekeeper kept trying to open the door.
- TONY ISLAS (8/5): -
- Rachelle (10/5): I love staying her while I’m in the area for work. - Cute Clean and safe
- Vivian (10/5): - I loved it super friendly staff
- Joanne (9/5): -
- Marjorie (7/5): - The bathrooms are large and good lighting, breakfast was excellent, and the grounds were nice to walk my dog around. The bathroom walls seemed to have some mold coming through th paint patching, the bed was older & not as comfortable as past visits.
- Chang (10/5): -
- elisa (10/5): -
- Cathrine (10/5): We very much enjoyed our stay. - The property was lovely and comfortable. It was in a perfect location for our visit to Pinnacles National Park. The room was very spacious. The breakfast was adequate, but not very good. The hot choices (eggs, sausage, potatoes) seemed to be reheated from frozen items. It would have been nice to have healthier choices.
- Iryna (10/5): - Very clean room. Quite location. It’s dog friendly hotel which is pretty rare. It would be great on there were EV chargers at facility
- Larmey (10/5): -
- Bradley (9/5): -
- Jessie (10/5): Great Stay, sweet location, my dog and I loved it! - The property was beautiful! The room had a country rustic feel that was great. The adorable little town is walking distance including a little cafe called Vertigo, I do recommend them as well. The ceiling fan and AC were both really loud but at least they had it! Other than that everything was really nice, I can't complain about anything else.
- Judith (10/5): -
- Gabriel (10/5): Relaxing, comfortable and satisfied - It was a very beautiful property. Everything was great
- Abbey (7/5): -
- Lobato (10/5): - Everything
- cejader (8/5): Solid Option, Great Location! - My partner and I recently stayed here and had a really pleasant experience overall. Check-in was quick and easy, which made the start of our stay smooth.
The room was very spacious and comfortable. The area around the hotel was also quiet, and it was conveniently located a short distance from San Juan Bautista, which made it a great base for exploring the area.
There were a couple of small downsides. The AC unit was a bit noisy and occasionally made some loud clicking sounds while running. The walls also seemed a little thin, as we could hear people talking in the room next door.
That said, the staff was extremely friendly throughout our stay. The breakfast was fairly basic, but still filling and a nice way to start the day.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying here again

- steinhardt (9/5): They host events and there are enough rooms to bring a bunch of folks. - It's a nice looking place, nice courtyard, nice rooms. If I come through Hollister again I'll stay here again. No complaints.
- Sidne (7/5): adequate - Perfect location, beautiful courtyard. I would like to see more seating in the courtyard and perhaps a table. Our room was very clean. The room was unfinished. There are missing light plates. Electrical cords were are hanging from the ceiling when you enter, as if missing a light. I lost internet connection after 8pm which was frustrating. The policy of holding an extra $100 for security issues will make me think twicw about staying agin.
- Bianca (9/5): -
- Carol (8/5): Comfortable room and close to old town. - The courtyard seating was very nice to gather in but needed more seating, we brought out chairs from our rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was just ok. Bathroom toilet dispenser broken off wall in our room.

- justnicoleco (8/5): A Lovely Stay - We stayed here for one night (Christmas Eve). The staff was very friendly for our late check-in. The room was very spacious. Parking is very easy and it's just so magical with all the twinkle lights.
The room was a bit cold. It was quiet and clean.
- Patricia (10/5): It was very nice. - The room vas very clean. the breakfast was great.
- Phyllis (5/5): - the floors in the room were not clean and the shower was very moldy.
- Jenny (10/5): - Great location. Room was very clean and love the mission decor and furniture. Would definitely return
- Margarita (8/5): It was awesome! I will def recommend and stay again! - The breakfast was yummy! I liked that it was different everyday! The staff was very polite and courteous! The beds and pillows were very comfy! There were some dust bunnies throughout the room. There was also mold in the bathroom ceiling but I think that's because the windows aren't opened by the customers during shower time.
- Miguel Vicente (8/5): -
- Mario (10/5): -
- Cynthia (9/5): I’d recommend Hacienda de Leal. 4.0 stars! Thank you! - Lovely! Particularly like the courtyard with the olive trees alight in the evenings. Plenty of parking. Love that the room has a microwave and refrigerator. Rooms are very spacious. Beds are comfortable. The rooms are a bit cold and the heater/air conditioner a bit old. Might add a few lights as the rooms at night are a bit dark.
- dalab2026 (8/5): Charming Old California feel - What a transformation!
I lived in the area 10+ years ago, and visited the site that time. It was adequate, but clearly a motor inn past its prime ... which we thought a shame, because it's spacious and in a wonderfully peaceful location. Finally made it back, and WOW! They've made all the right decisions. It's unlike any other hotel of its grade, in the best possible way. So glad this has happened in sleepy little San Juan Bautists!
The atmosphere now is very much in keeping with the town-that-time-forgot feel of SJB. From the bell-shaped corridor lighting (nice nod to the El Camino Real location) to mission-style furniture and serape throw pillows, the entire presentation is well thought out. Restyling the central courtyard into a Spanish-feel grove of olive trees, grape vines and lavender lends an inviting feel. Clearly this has been done with the intention of making it an event venue. I can see the wisdom and appeal of that. The much-touted white lights definitely add an element of enchantment by night.
As a garden-variety traveler in quest of a quiet escape, I found it relaxing as well. LOVE how spacious and airy the rooms are, with precisely the right amount of Old California texture. The bed was perfection, the bathroom/closet area clean and neutral without being bland. Beautifully, beautifully done.
Breakfast, by comparison, seems something of an afterthought. All adequate, but nothing special other than the dining atmosphere's continued Spanish feel and restrained background soundtrack . Classic mariachi suits the space to a T.
A bit of outdoor seating where overnight guests could enjoy breakfast would be appreciated ... but then again, it was January. Perhaps it's different in warmer months? And staff could be a bit more knowledgeable about things to do in the area -- the person I spoke with was unaware of the DeAnza Trail, which has a trailhead literally within a mile, off Sallinas right behind the hotel.
Nevertheless, I'd definitely stay again ... at off-season prices. Prime-season rates? No. It's not that big an upgrade.
- Victor (9/5): -
- Sinia (5/5): - The outside is actually very nice and the staff was very helpful The cleaning staff left much to be desired. We stood six night and only twice was our room actually cleaned correctly. I purposely left some hair on the floor to se if they cleaned the floors which they did not,
- Michael (9/5): Great stay - Location, the rooms, the staff. The heater wasn’t working properly
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - La atención, servicio e instalaciones
- Jane (8/5): We loved it when we were there many years ago with original owners. Probably won’t return. - Breakfast was terrible maybe a 3 Eggs were cold. Sausage was not good and the potatoes were cold and flavorless
- Barbara (9/5): -
- Tammy (10/5): -
- Victor (10/5): Enjoyed the stay, and overall it was a pleasant stay - The location was very nice. Everything was within walking distance The floors could have been cleaned a little better. Maybe the cleaning staff could use less fragrant cleaning supplies. Had to air the room for about 1/2 hour
- Ian (9/5): Nice place with sweet views of the mountains. - The pancake machine was cool. The room was spacious and comfortable. The courtyard was very messy with olives and dog poop.
- 209joec916 (4/5): So sad. - Breakfast was a big fail, few items, rarely replenished, even plates and flatware. The shower head in our room barely functioned due to mineral buildup. The cleaning solution housekeeping uses required us to leave our door and windows open for an hour before we could easily breathe in our room (corroborated by other guests in other rooms). This is such a shame! This used to be a nice property. It’s been a steady downhill slide.
- Donald (8/5): Don’t arrive before three for check-in - The setting was beautiful and the rooms were very clean. I was going to my son‘s for Thanksgiving had arrived two hours earlier than the 3 o’clock check-in. The room was ready but they charge me $35 arrival early fee. Never heard of that before. I had no choice but pay the $35 or sit there till 3 o’clock. I was a little disappointed being I’ve never been charged for being early when a room is available. It wasn’t like I was gonna move in and occupy the room. I was just securing the room before going to my son’s Thanksgiving party. I never occupied it I just checked in. Go figure!
- Rennea (10/5): Great Hacienda like Motel. Friendly staff. Generous breakfast. - It was clean, and it had an old-fashioned Spanish style, which I like very much It could use a little more warmth. Maybe some rugs at the foot of the bed.
- April (8/5): Overall good experience - Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Small issue that was resolved quickly, making our stay very comfortable.
- CHAVEZ (9/5): Very nice stay - Keep up the good work Yes
- Susan (9/5): - Lovely setting with the Olive trees lit up at night. Fantastic free parking. Great location for visiting Big Sur and all the coastal places. Good breakfast. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. I would definitely recommend.
- Chojny (8/5): -
- Maria (8/5): -
- Steven (10/5): Great lodging in San Juan Baptista. - Large room with comfortable beds. Plenty of parking. Quiet location with beautiful inner court. Lavender and olive trees. Nice breakfast with good coffee. The staff came in and helped with TV setting so w could watch game.
We will be back. Filter need to be changed in heater. It would not work.
- Canales (10/5): - Check in host was amazing. She even offered an umbrella because it was raining.
- TONY ISLAS (9/5): -
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - only stayed one night, obviously didn't see much
- Kiana (10/5): - Was nice and clean would stay their again
- Alejandra (6/5): - It was okay place to stay. The day we were there the power went out three times because of the weather.
- Roberto (10/5): - Nice clean hacienda feeling and close to the mission, perfect!
- Leonardo (10/5): Secret spot…shhhh - This is my favorite hotel to stay at when I’m in the area! Beautiful property, clean rooms with a rustic feel, you get a sample of wine and the staff are always great! Kathie the front desk gal is so nice and she’s always too funny! Great to come back to a friendly face! I’d suggest a wine night cap by the fire pit before bed!
- Mary (8/5): -
- Jeremy (10/5): - This hotel has a cool retro-Spanish theme. There's a vineyard and olive trees in the courtyard. There's also a cozy fire pit shielded from the wind that Cathy at the front desk kindly lit for us. The 156 is a major road, but there is a signal light and pedestrian crossing. From there, it's a short walk along the Alameda to the historic part of town. There are artisan shops, restaurants, the old mission, a grocery store, and a coffee roaster. The coffee roaster also serves food and beer. In the other direction, you can drive up Fremont peak. There's a state park at the top with camping and views overlooking Salinas. It's about a one-hour drive to Pinnacles National Park. This hotel is set up as a venue for weddings and similar gatherings. There wasn't anything like that going on during our stay. The neighboring property has goats and chickens. The bathroom window effectively blocked the sound, and it was noticeable but not disturbing with the window open.
- LARISSA (8/5): - I liked the place very much.
- Ileana (10/5): - Very enjoyable music at the lobby
- Radouane (10/5): - We were surprised by the cleanest, room and beautiful hotel
- Liliana (7/5): - shower ceiling needed to be painted.
- Sami (7/5): Easy stay for location - Rooms are spacious, bed is comfortable. Good location for Salinas / SJB area. Bathroom smelled like mold, the room can let a lot of sound in.
- Lorena (6/5): - The hotel is very pretty, unique, however the room was not clean, they need more staff.
- Juliana (7/5): We'd give it a B only because of the items listed above. Otherwise an A! - Location was great wait staff were nice and we will look forward to your SPA addition. Supplied breakfast was just fine and The room was lovely. My friend and I stayed for the Labor Day weekend. It was lovely with a few exceptions: There was no Netflix or paid TV options even though we have our own account and the tv was impossible to work. Additionally, having to get ice from the front desk is a pain. There should be an available ice machine for the guest 1 on each floor.
- Romelia (10/5): -
- val1963 (9/5): - Ottima struttura, camere pulite È ora di cambiare i materassi
- Luis (8/5): -
- Nancy (7/5): Clean place but not the best breakfast and customer cleanliness. - The property was clean it looked beautiful at night The breakfast was horrible not many options we asked the staff there the waffles machine was going to slow and didn’t bother to help us out. They don’t restock right away.
- james (8/5): -
- Heidi (10/5): Nice Respite - Nice hotel, great location
Friendly Service!
- ethan (2/5): - Mold
- Ralph (6/5): Enttäuschend - Lage und schöne Zimmer Frühstück ohne Früchte, Käse, Fleisch, dafür mit Kartonteller, Plastikbecher und Plasticbesteck… Katastrophal.
Zimmer wurde nicht gereinigt.
- Jon (10/5): Nice - Clean room and quiet. Parking lot is well lighted.
- Ernie (10/5): - Everything was great here. The ONLY thing that's a bit funny is their TV situation. As long as you don't need TV. You are good.
- Haley (10/5): - Clean hotel, easy to park. The only thing I didn’t like was the towels they replaced in the room the second night were either dirty or stained (eye makeup, and face makeup… yuck). But overall good establishment.
- Zhenyu (2/5): - no one at front desk most of the time
- Olga (10/5): - Great place
- Arunaabh (7/5): -
- rosa (10/5): -
- Miriam (10/5): - Spacious rooms plenty of parking for cars and rv good channels on tv everything you need in the room
- Amber (10/5): - The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. My family enjoyed the fore pit and free breakfast
- José Maria (7/5): -
- Elisabeth (8/5): - Beautiful place, perfect location
- Ron (8/5): Quaint hotel very nice area - The check in receptionist was on the rude side. The room was clean, except for the bottom of the shower. The towels need to be upgraded.
- Olivia (8/5): Charming Hotel - The room is a great, very spacious! Loved the king size bed! It had a mini fridge, microwave, clothes steamer! The bathroom vanity was large which is great to share! The shower tile could have been deep cleaned better and the towels are due to be updated (small and scratchy). However this hotel had a charming courtyard and was close proximity to a great coffee shop, loved being able to walk there in the morning!
- Joe (8/5): - Everything was clean in our room; however three of the lights didn’t work.
The breakfast options were very limited.
The area was nice and quite with a country like atmosphere.
- Dimitriy (8/5): - Hacienda is definitely a unique hotel. For the price, it was definitely worth it. Typical continental breakfast included and rating of over 9 for sure got my attention. The are around the hotel itself is okay. There is really nothing there to do. As for the hotel itself, I think it is fair that I could give a hard 8/10. Overall clean, fairly quiet and reasonably priced.
- MELODYE (8/5): - Kathie at check in was welcoming and thorough. Friendly and helpful. The property has an exceptionally beautiful courtyard to relax in.
An unfortunate negative was being woken by barnyard animals from just across the parking lot. I was aware there was a goat, who's bleets were charming at 6pm. The rooster was an unknown neighbor who proudly welcomed the new day at 6am prompting the goat to join in the revelry.
- Carl (4/5): - TV and phone not plugged in. Had to walk to front desk to get this fixed.
Bed in room did not get new sheets second day
- Calvin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (6/5): - The property was very isolated on opposite side of highway from the town.
- Carlos (10/5): - Very nice place, everything was very good. Staff was friendly and the place was beautiful and clean. My only minor issue was how thin the walls are, you can hear most peoples conversation's.
- Javier (10/5): - I love staying here. I will be back.
