If you are allergic to cats, or don't like the smell of cats, I would recommend potentially avoiding. Also, there's no ventilation in the room so can get very damp/humid and we even had mould whilst were there for a couple of days.

• Patrycja (5/5): Regular - bien ubicado, cerca del río y tenía algun restaurante abajo. La habitación no tenía el baño ensuite, sino literaamente una especie de pared de cristal para separar el baño del resto de la habitación. Y a ventana estaba en la parte del baño. Había que subir unos pisos por las escaleras y la chica de la recepción parecía molesta por cada pregunta que se le hacía.

• Mark (8/5): Very good option in Kuching. I would return. - Staff is welcoming and building is secure. Small kitchen works well. Mostly quiet, but depends on neighboring room tenants. Close to river and boardwalk, with peaceful walking available.. Nearby music can be loud until midnight or even 1 in the morning.
• Natasha (9/5): If I'm in Kuching, I'll repeat again. - I like the bed, mattress was comfortable. Really clean and the location is close to the river. Great value for the price. Oliver was really efficient answering. To say something I'd say the stairs.
• Cheng Shu (1/5): Be deceived - After collecting the accommodation fee, they forced the customer to leave. The accommodation was extremely bad. They said pets were allowed but I had to pay an extra Rm 50 ，When I checked in, I gave Rm100 as a deposit, and Rm50 was for the pet fee. Then someone knocked on my door and said that he was the owner. Why didn't he know that I had brought a pet? I said that I had made a statement and also gave him Rm 50. He drove me away.

• Richard (9/5): Great budget hotel , very helpful team . - Oliver and the team were great , any travel information you want about the area or country Oliver will guide you . My single room with aircon was small but perfect for me , comfy bed and pillows , clean and hot water . Great budget room . No curtain to block out the morning light but unfortunately due to the shower it is not possible to have one But it was ok .

• Valentina (10/5): Don't miss the chance to stay at this hostel! Great experience. - I stayed in a single room with a private bathroom. It was small and very simply furnished but it had everything I needed: a hairdryer, towel, bath mat, air conditioning, a comfortable bed, a TV, a desk and chair, wifi and a hot shower. There are also small windows overlooking the riverfront. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can even do your laundry. You can't ask for more from a hostel at such a low price. Even the position is good and there is everything you need all around. But the real plus is Olivier, the owner. He's friendly, helpful, and truly cares about the well-being and serenity of his guests. He's always ready to provide you with any information you need to organize visits and excursions, and he gives you the best tips for making the most of your stay in Kuching, especially if you're a budget traveler. He'll advise you on how to save money by using public transportation with all the details, for example and recommend the best excursions. Olivier is the best person I've met during my trip to Malaysia and I recommend everyone to stay at his hostel. It will be a pleasant surprise. Everything was ok.

Ho soggiornato in una camera singola con bagno: piccola, ma con tutto il necessario e pulita. Presenza di ventilatore. A una breve distanza dalle principali attrazioni. Ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Aggiungerei una mensola in più in camera e un gancio in bagno per appendere l'asciugamano.

Also, perfectly located right next to the riverside. Maybe more open view of the outside.

• Emile (8/5): Everyone is so NICE! - Oliver is an absolute gem of a host! He is extremely kind and has a wealth of knowledge with over a dozen years of management experience. After my first night, I realized that the room with only a fan was not suitable for my needs and I was able to switch rooms into something more comfortable with AC. Then I was able to extend my stay with supreme ease. The team is highly accessible and kind, providing excellent customer service. And the location is excellent, right at the end of the waterfront, with dining options on the ground floor and an excellent seafood restaurant across the street with a view of the river. And be sure to visit the rooftop lounge where you can catch lovely viewings of the sunsets and sunrises. The bed was ok, but it is a bit too soft for my liking. And the bathrooms are odd with sliding glass doors that separate your sleeping area from the lavatory/shower. I wish there was some sort of light shade since the morning light would shine directly into the room each day. I also wish there were some shower gel and shampoo dispensers, rather than a small bar of soap.

• Kirstyn (7/5): Location is amazing - Woodpecker Lodge is in such a great location. There is quite a lot stairs but the location makes up for it. The owner has three adorable cats 😍. The room was a good size but was a bit grotty (nothing major just needs some maintenance) but once again the location made it worth it. We didn't try out the shared facilities like the roof or kitchen. The owner was really lovely and easy to communicate with. Would stay again for ease of location

This is it's best feature, also cafe next door is very useful for local breakfasts dinners beers etc.The kitchens basic but all good as I ate out mostly it has all necessary if you do want to cook some quick fry ups. Staff v pleasant and helpful. Rooftop if you want to socialise more. Security is good feels safe, do t lose your exit entry cards! My room was curtain-less so you get very early morning light and nighttime lights, some blinds would be good also felt slightly exposed at night. Shower was interesting. TV didn't work at all not that it bothered me I didn't come to watch TV .Bed could have been softer ok for a few days.

Das besondere an dieser Unterkunft ist der Rooftop. Hier trifft man sich abends und kann gut Kontakte knüpfen. Oliver, der Inhaber, ist sehr freundlich. Ich kann die Unterkunft uneingeschränkt weiter empfehlen.

AC was rather strong and hard to control at night. It was likely a personal preference as I don't like the air blowing at me. Water pressure was rather low.

Rooms were clean, bed confortables, location is quiet and very close to the waterfront while being protected from its frenzy. Great local restaurants downstairs. I recommend 100% If you want a fancy honeymoon hotel, don't come here. But in any other case, it'd be a shame to miss on this humble stay, where you will get in the local atmosphere
• Elizabeth (10/5): Highly recommended. - For a “shoe string” traveler’s lodging, it was perfect! The bed was so comfy, the sheets so crisp. My own en suite bathroom, after hostel style accommodations, was a luxury. Very clean. Good communication on What’s App. I paid a few US$ for air conditioning, but the new Panasonic powerful fan might have been enough. Location great! There was a 24 hour busy restaurant on the block so it felt safe, and good food. Other restaurants on the block were also good. The waterfront walk was just steps away.

• Sharminie (1/5): The location is great but the owner shall keep hygiene on the bed preparation. - The location wise is good because the restaurant is just nearby I got itchy marks on my body during my sleep. After I woke up i found that it was bugs on the bed.

• Sooaun (7/5): Friendly and helpful staff. Basic room but clean. Towels and bedsheets clean and nice too. - Rooms was clean and cosy. Towels were nice and fluffy. So were the cats! Location is great, right in town and close to the river. They have a rooftop view that you can watch the sunrise and sunset. The window of my room opened out to the airwell and the smell of cat litter got into my room when i opened the window. I guess it would have been ok if i had upgraded to get the air conditioning.
• Stephen (5/5): You get what you pay for - The location is very good. The room was basically clean and secure, the a/c worked, there was hot water, and the bed wasn’t terrible. The building is decrepit and depressing. Steel gates add to the prison vibe. The room is tiny. There is no place to put anything besides on the floor. The bathroom is so narrow that anyone over five feet tall cannot sit normally on the toilet.
• Awatiff (4/5): Location is good for a single traveler and safe area for women I would say. - I like how the location is in the heart of the city and accessible to all the main attraction. Your staff were helpful both Ally and the man who works at night (Didnt manage to get his name). Within the perimeter, loads of restaurant/cafes and all walking distance. Near CIMB, 7Eleven, Kuching statue and many more. The pictures display when i made my booking was different than the actual room. The photo display wasnt for basic room. So photos advertise was misleading and please also indicate that it's actually located at the first floor as i was travelling with luggage. Please update.
