Guest Reviews
- MiW (8/5): - So many ppl checking out for the same time and it takes quite a long time for queue up, even waiting for the lift...
- Vitus (10/5): Nice room with luxurious bathroom - We only stayed one night in Macau. Though hotel is considered to be one of the older ones, it is still a very nice hotel. We had a nice big room with a luxurious bathroom. Almost wished we could stay longer.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Immoral usage of room deposit - They ask for a room deposit equivalent of USD100 in addition to your already prepaid room fee. They don't nullify the deposit upon check out like what all the the hotels do. Instead, they will run the credit card and refund the money on your credit card 1 month later. They do that to all the guests. What do they do with that money? Invest that for 1 month and make return on investment using hotel guests funds? That is immoral.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly Staff, buffett is $120HKD if not part of your hotel package. Decent food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location for new year's eve countdown
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful ambience for a perfect new year eve celebration
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient location. The room is clean and just a bit cold as we not succeed to adjust the air con
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Plenty of Taxi waiting in front the Hotel. Rio Hotel provided free Mobile Phone for Calling, Hot spot, really excellent. One of the staff was not helpful enough when I asked him for help for my lunch booking at Macau Tower, he just told me he only in charge on Concierge. And hotel have limited seats for guest while check in.
- Rosy (8/5): - The check in was terrible, had to wait till 3:30 and longer even after requesting to be able to check in early, Arrive at 2 pm and was asked to come at 3 and then at 3 still not ready, another 30 mins and finally got our room. By the way check in time was 3pm. Overall a nice clean hotel but away from all the action! It’s safe and close to lots of food places.
- Esther (10/5): - Helpful staff nice amenities. Clean and convenient.
- Craig (10/5): - Went for the Macau GP. This hotel is walking distance to both stands,
and the historic sites.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room is clean.
Breakfast choice little.
No shuttle bus from border gate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Luxury at Hotel Rio - The hotel is beautiful and the check in seamless. Staff were very helpful and even offered us a bonus room upgrade. Facilities were luxurious and clean, the room was very quiet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room is big and clean
- ANDY (8/5): - Big spacious room, nice big beds, good central location. Booked 3 rooms, all were happy with their rooms.
- Max (6/5): - Front desk staff is professional but they are the only ones who speak English while most others in the lobby area do not. Fitness center is small and lack of basic equipment such as yoga mat or the space for it.
Breakfast was lousy and it’s location is not close to other casinos which are on the other side of Macau.
- quen (6/5): Location is nice - Location was amazing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I was surprised that the staff said my booking was not confirmed as my Expedia user name is not the same as my ID card.
I think it’s quite strange as I have always been using this account for all tix n hotels booking in the past 7 years.
- Ivor (10/5): Room service not good - The room service after midnight took one hour and the staff laughed at me when I ordered in English, they seem impolite and can’t speak English properly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient location, friendly staff, clean environment and room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Toilet & shower area separated and the room is spacious.
- Leanne (8/5): yep - but nope - It wasn't located in the location I thought I had booked it - my fault - but at the end of the day it was exactly where we wanted to be and found our way around no problems. In the opposite direction from the old town which was a bit of a shame. The hotel of well maintained and the staff were attentive. The room was fantastically large and the bathroom fantastic. In house dining was very average even though they claim to have a 2 star Michelin. Macau is not the same as it was 5 years ago and has really lost its Portuguese charm - the chinese have taken over. We won't go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms were spacious and hotel staff were helpful :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - New building and recently renovated. Relatively clean however customer service needs improvement. Room was clean however hotel did not honor our reservation for non smoking room due to unavailability. Also, WiFi is slow and tv did not work.
- Fong (10/5): - Staff friendly, room comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Like casino in the hotel, prefer to have more choice for the games machine.
- John (10/5): Surprising! - Rooms were surprisingly large. Location was walking distance to other main Casinos in downtown area. Safe and clean. Great value!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is awesome for travelling around the city. Bell boys and staffs are suer nice and helpful. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend for all.
- Raja (10/5): Nice hotels - Nice hotel, nice location
- SAMMY (10/5): - very clean and upgrade
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very newly renovated rooms. Conveniently located, reasonably priced.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing hotel. So much room and friendly staff. Still awaiting room deposit return, bit was advised this may take some time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall is good
- Valencia (10/5): Clean, comfortable and Good services - Is a surrounded by local food, supermarket and easily accessible to other places by walking or local bus or hotel bus (free). Clean and comfortable hotel with good services from the staffs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): So so hotel. I wouldnt recommend. - I would say this hotel is well kept and clean. The downside is the bad location. Not many shops or restaurants available and the food in the restaurant is expensive.
- derrick (8/5): - Smoking smell all over the room, but the manager, Andrew, settled this issue immediately.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff very helpful, place strategic and convenient, room clean.
- HK (8/5): - Free wifi reception is not too good probably due to the location of the room which is at the end of the corridor.
- PY (10/5): - Nice location with few bus stops nearby. The room is pretty large and comfortable, meanwhile the bathroom is just out of my expectation. Fast check in and check out. Overall the services from Rio are excellent except for the in room dining, which I called the line and made my order but the worker seems like do not understand well regarding the menu and asked me back is the order stated in their menu.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good Hotel staff friendly and efficient.
- Maurice (8/5): Good hotel with reasonable price - I stayed many times in this hotel, everything is good and same as usual, I will come again.
- Steven (8/5): Great Manager. - Great manager. Really cares and does his best. Happy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - When in macau next trip, I will make Rio my home based. Thanj you for the uograde.
- Elynn (10/5): Excellent - Amazing just location abit far from famous place.
- loveggs (10/5): - Location is not too bad, the busstop is right outside the hotel. Room is very comfortable and spacious. There is always someone there to open the door for us. The number of times i went in and out of the hotel, i probably open less than 5 times during my 3d2n stay. Only not so gd point i can think of is during check in, the front desk lady could have speak up and slower. No doubt i understand cantonese but with the other loud guests around, i had to strain my ears to listen and ask her to repeat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I only stayed for 1 night and every thing was fine ! Thx!
- Mei (10/5): - The staffs are super helpful and room nice and clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Only stay here for the Rio sauna.
If you do not speak Chinese you receive only frustration from room service, concierge and restaurant.. Good coffee shop in building outside entrance around corner to right.
- ZAIDAH (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value, location a bit far from the main drag but good bus services
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel. Staff are friendly. Bus stop station is in front of hotel. Convenience.
- Tony (10/5): - Brandy the girl at front desk was very good with her service. She spoke good English. Everyone greets you with s smile . Clean and a very nice hotel . Second time I stay here . They also upgraded me to a suite 😍😍🙏
- Ben (10/5): - Very nice and grand hotel in old Macau. Close to the ferry and a nice walk towards Senado square.
- Wei khoon (8/5): - comforter hotels with big rooms
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent hotel - Wifi is not consistent which is big influence toward an average score. Bed mattress is quite hard. Got everything you need at a hotel. Do not like the area around this hotel. 15-20 minutes walk from the tourist area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean, good service, roomy, and convenient. Will come back for sure.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Moderate. Not center of the city. Do not have shuttle bas
- HUYNH (8/5): - Friendly Bellboys - always smile & willing to help
Unfriendly Front Desk Staff - not smile (maybe they were busy on their duties), but feel unhappy & unwelcome
Nice & big room, very comfortable.
- ENJIE (8/5): - our stay is wonderful , the hotel is good , good location and resonable price comparing with other hotels in the nearby . The manager Andy from Reception is very friendly and much help for our checking in . The hotel room is clean and good . value for money .
- David (6/5): - The wifi was too slow. Other than that, the hotel is great.
- Koala (10/5): - They didn’t have a standard room available when I arrived so I got upgraded to a suite. Huge room with 2 bathrooms. Bedroom has a nice large window overlooking hotels. Service was great. The only thing is if you use your credit card for deposit, they said it will take a month before they reimburse the credit back onto your card.
- Patrick (10/5): - Great location just minutes away from many attractions. Very convenient to get to from Macau Ferry Terminal. Would come back for another stay at the Rio!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good place to stay in Macau - Great hotel with huge bathroom and spacious bedroom. Very clean and a good value. Trustworthy money changers across the street. 24 hour convenient grocey store also across the street. Good location.
- Dom (2/5): Rude. - The staff were so so rude, spoke very little English and was mocked by the staff behind our backs while eating and trying to ask for directions.
- XinYi (10/5): - There’s free shuttle bus provided from hotel to Macau (Outer) ferry terminal.
Although there is shuttle bus from Macau (outer) ferry, it doesn’t state where can we board.
The good thing about the hotel is within walkable distance, so it’s still quite convenient.
The hotel room were fantastic and clean.
It is spacious and comfortable. There’s also free mobile wifi you could take it out with you.
Hotel is within walkable distance to many attractions.
Overall, we have a great stay in Rio Hotel. 🙂
- Verified traveler (6/5): No room service in this hotel - No room service. Rooms uncomfortable. Poor service.
Don’t know how this got 4 stars
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to every where, it is indeed very convenient.
- Terence (8/5): - Very nice rooms and staff, not much in the local area but only a short walk to the centre.
- Jeff (10/5): - Excellent experience. Our room was also upgraded on check-in.
- Monica (10/5): Nice hotel, close to some of the attractions - We stayed just for a night but the hotel overall is really good!
Our room was upgraded it was fantastic!
Unfortunately they don’t have a free shuttle to the Taipa ferry terminal...
- Reginaldo (8/5): Clean, comfortable, big rooms - Nice, big, comfortable room. Location is just OKAY. We requested a non-smoking room on a non-smoking room. But it smelled like smoke in our room from time to time because, as we found out on the day we were going to check out, the people in the room next to ours was smoking. We opened the door on day of check out and found the room next door was wide open, with a few guys inside all smoking. Also in the pool area, smoking was not allowed yet people still smoked. I reported it to the pool attendant who (to her credit) promptly acted and did something about it.
- Seg (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, thank you concierge Jayson for all your help and make a difference.
Do not lose your room key card or you will be charged ........(?)
- Esther (6/5): ok hotel stay - Liked the location - good access to bus network that brought us everywhere (Cotai area, Historic center etc) and also walking distance to the Guia Lighthouse (which we loved).
Check-in and check-out was efficient. Concierge was helpful. But otherwise everything's average. Housekeeping was not great. We booked and paid for a family room for 3 persons - but throughout our 4-day stay we had to call housekeeping every night for extra pillows / towels / bottled water / toiletries because everything came in 2s.
On one of the nights the 'changed' towels were dirty and we had to request for new ones.
The safe in the room and the 'free' wifi phone were also not working from day 1. We did not use either in the end.
Prior to our stay I had emailed the hotel twice with enquiries but had no response.
Overall - this is a functional hotel, so manage your expectations.
- QT (10/5): - Everything good except internet was very slow and drop out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 可以提前羅房,又有得自動升級房間,房又大又豪華又干淨,設備很好,泊車方便,下面又有得飲茶,十分滿意十分好。
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel, cleaned room and very friendly staff
- David (8/5): - Good location, shuttle to ferry, only minor complaint was the lack of restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff is very helpful in all aspects. This is very important especially in the country you are not familiar with.
- Cherry (10/5): Spacious and newly furnished room - Family room is booked. Upon arrival, Free upgrade to delux room which is very spacious and comfortable with a newly furnished and modern style. Two king size beds, nice tv channel, comfy mattress, which is quite bouncy, but still suits to me. Bathrobe is not provided unless $50 is paid, which is quite disappointing to us as we thought it’s sth basic to a hotel stay. The indoor swimming pool is small, but enough for kids to play and swim. The environment is hygiene and all of the staff is very pleasant and proactively helpful.
- carol (8/5): - Hotel was great , the room sizes was very large but the bed was hard, buffet breakfast
- Cheong (10/5): very good, and nice room. - very pretty nice, its really look 5 stars hotel. where near to all dinning place, and also visit place, outside have public bus
- Antonio (10/5): Excellent hotel and excellent rates. Hotel highly. - I stayed in Rio hotel several times. I get upgraded every visit. This time I was upgraded to suite. Thank you Rio hotel.
- J (10/5): - Great, helpful and polite staff/management , Super Clean property, Spacious room, Amazing location, walking distance to shops, supermarkets and most of Macau attractions.
Will definitely stay there again !
Highly recommended!!!
Excellent Hotel ***** with affordable rates
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good experience - Good location, good value, near dining, courteous staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and clean hotel, friendly staff, bus stop nearby with buses to border
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious room with excellent staff attitude. I would recommend my friends to shortlist Rio Hotel.
- Steven (10/5): Nice hotel. - Clean comfortable room. Nice size.
- Phoo (10/5): Excellent hotel for vacation. - My group of 11 family members are happy with the cleanliness and comfort of this hotel.Staff are courtious and helpful.Only regret is Rio Hotel shuttle service operating too late at 11 am.It will be great if shuttle service starts at 8 am for guests who need to leave early.Special thanks to Service Manager, William for arranging transport for 11 persons to Ferry station at 9.30am.
- Danny (8/5): - Limited check in staff which leads to longer waits. Same on check-out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and clean hotel. Fairly convenient to shops - Rooms were nice and roomy. Seems newly refurbished.
- subhra (10/5): Excellent hotel - It was a great experience. The staff aas extremely friendly. The only small issue was that our heating was not working properly, but i am sure its a one off thing. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Maylyn (10/5): - Its amazing to stay in rio hotel. The location of hotel is quite far going to senado square and no shuttle services in tourist spot.
- Alan (6/5): Decent for the price but that is it - Stayed three nights on Jan 2018.
The hotel is located on the north part of Macau and about a 20min walk to the ruins of st.pauls. Room is decent size and clean, but with the bed too firm and without quality I had some bad sleep during the stay. Their is a massage within the hotel. Most hotel guests are mainlanders so you know what to expect. 711 convenience store is right around the corner. Overall experience is subpar and since Macau is too bored, I will not be coming back again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Overall great experience - The services were awesome and the staff were friendly! The room that we stayed was spacious and clean and everything are in decent condition. Although it’s located slightly away from the happening places in Macau, the price is value for money and there’s a bus stop nearby (:
- Sergey (10/5): NICE - Good experience!
- Verified traveler (10/5): strongly recommended! excellent hotel! - I will stay in this hotel again due to quality, the excellent service, the affordable price
- Sunny (8/5): - Newly renovated, good price, quiet area and access to central Macau.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Enjoyed to stay there for two nights.
- BRETT ANTHONY (10/5): Macau visit - Quality hotel and service was excellent-could not be faulted-one of the valets/concierge staff by the name of Dennis was extremely helpful & kind
- lena (6/5): Normal standard, nothing extraordinary - Hotel location is quite far from major tourist spot. On foot 18 mins to senado square and if you are with kids that can stretch to hour hour.
Far from main casino stretch, by taxi from Wynn palace to hotel costs around 100hkd.
Shutter service from ferry terminal to hotel timing is every hour which is silly cause guests can take taxi, less than 10 mins, costs 30hkd.
So its quite meaningless. They should re-route their shutter service to cover the main tourist spots so that more guests will book at Rio.
No point having the shutter bus but not getting any economical returns out of it.
