Guest Reviews
- Steve_of_N21 (6/5): Basic motel style but it all worked. - I am guessing we were allocated a standard room as it certainly didn’t look like any of the photos posted by management on this listing. So assuming we were then the description of these is no frills and whistles here, just your basic rectangular block motel accommodation, where you park your vehicle in front of your rectangular block shape room, then have the beds by the door, basic storage facilities opposite (fortunately with tea and coffee facilities and a decent sized fridge) and a small very simple and plain, but functional bathroom at the back.
Our room had a decor from, well I’m not sure when, but we used to have a shower curtain set up like that when I was a lad in the sixties. The important things however, such as the air conditioning and the Wi-Fi all worked well and the bed was comfortable, and despite being next to the road, the room was quiet and a good night’s sleep was had.
I cannot comment on the value as we stayed here for one night as part of a three-day ATT Kings tour to Kakadu and Nitmiluk National Parks, but I am guessing it will not be cheap in high season for what you get, as there is not a great deal of choice In Katherine. We didn’t eat here, but others from our tour group did and said the food was fantastic and almost worth the basic accommodation just for the restaurant.
- Timur (8/5): - Great place to stay in Katherine
- blaisec994 (10/5): check in to relax before gorge experience - large spacious rooms, clean and airy. ample parking in front of the room, ideal if visiting Katherine Gorge. The check in is quick and professional. They have a coffee tea make in the room and the restaurant is close by
- Warwick (8/5): - Plenty of room and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a bit small but everything worked alright and the shower was big enough. The heat pump worked well
- xmassss (10/5): Beautiful stay - A lovely, well-maintained property with excellent amenities. The location is convenient, close to the village yet peaceful. Highlights include a pristine swimming pool, a delightful restaurant, and exceptionally friendly staff. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed.
- Cornelia (6/5): - Es ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen, der Preis ist nicht angemessen, aber da wenig Alternativen vorhanden sind … Schöner Pool und gute Ausgangslage für die Umgebung
- Danita (6/5): - Fair. Needs repairing of basics like dripping taps and door locks that are finicky. Hot breakfasts vary in gourmet appeal - possibly depending on the weekend or weekday chef (Weekends won!) Cleaning staff could have been more aware that replacing towels is better than simply taking them. Lovely location.
- Gary (8/5): Value Plus! - Older style hotel in Katherine. Very clean, average size, older style bathrooms and has a great breakfast and dinner. Very good value.
- Nichole (8/5): - The front slide door the step not good, too high.
Also bathroom is very old easy make flour wet.
Need to add subtitles on tv
- N1598RNannettef (8/5): Locals on Road Trip - The rooms had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, the showers were good, the fridge was cold, and the air conditioner was working. We also had a meal in the restaurant, which was very good. There was plenty of parking and there was gated security. Would stay here again for sure.
- Ryan (8/5): - Was a nice stay. Glad to be a little out of town. Restaurant was very nice!
- Gregory de (10/5): - Units needa bit of TLC as they are looking a bit jaded
- Stephen (10/5): - .
- Tracey-Lee (8/5): - A nice quiet spot to stay - buffet breakfast option was good for convenience.
- Neil (8/5): Would stay again - Stayed here for 1 night whilst on business. The room had everything I needed.
- Dionisia (10/5): - It's convenient, clean and well kept.
- Karlos (10/5): - Nice facilities for the cost of the room. Air-conditioning in the restaurant. Nice meal.
- yachtmail (4/5): Overpriced and lacking - I have stayed at the Contour previously and decided to try this establishment again. The Standard room is overpriced and incredibly basic. It's below a three star rating. I have found long black hairs on the floor and the room is in need of a refurbish with cracked tiles and dirty floor. The restaurant food was deplorable: a starter of Turkish bread (4 slices) and main of Caesar Salad + 1 gin based cocktail cost me a whopping $72. The music playing at the restaurant was too loud and songs with explicit lyrics were being played. One particular song was rather insulting to women. The Caesar Salad was presented with no flair whatsoever and you would have to be very careful not to break teeth on the croutons. I left without finishing my meal. The waitress was incredulous that I was unhappy about my food and the loud offensive music. She took my critique as an affront and did not offer any apologies.
- Sheekat (8/5): - It was okay
- Cameron (4/5): - Room was absolutely not worth $325 a night (breakfast included) room is very old, screw/fixture holes in walls & ceiling from remodeling that have never been filled, No seating in room other than 1 hard plastic chair, we had to sit on the bed, dead bugs all throughout the sliding door tracks & in bathroom, heavy soap scum in the shower, breakfast food was cold, seems they did not know how to use the heating elements, they also did not know how to cook a medium rare steak, returned & reserved medium well, it was a $70 cut… The grounds were nice, that’s about it, no chance of ever going back
- Vance (8/5): - good service
- T668RJmichaels (2/5): Thinking of this place? Think again!! - What a nightmare! They had a private function on which we weren’t advised of. We were made to sit outside in the sweltering heat. That we accepted. However, things got heated after that. The girl in charge was so officious I thought it was a joke. The drinks were not according to what we ordered. The waitress told us they couldn’t give us what we asked for because they were too busy. Even that wasn’t the worst of it. The meals were terrible!! But Even that wasn’t the worst.!! To add insult to injury when we went to pay they charged us for drinks we had already paid for due to their insistence they couldn’t put them on our room tab!! Can’t wait to leave the god forsaken place. I think what rating we gave them is generous.
- Icecreamy77 (2/5): Don’t eat here - Ate at the restaurant. Ordered two entrees and two mains one bottle of wine. $180 later. Barramundi main was severely overcooked and so dry I chocked on it. Pork was also overcooked and dry with sauce dumped over the top and spilling over two thirds of the plate. Sauce seemed straight from a bottle. Prawn entree so overpriced for maybe 8 small prawns. Scallops were burnt. The wine at least was ok. Told the staff both the mains were inedible but they didn’t care at all.
- SusanC4948 (10/5): Good facilities - We spent two nights at Katherine. I booked a double room but was upgraded since the motel was full (tour groups). I think that simply meant I got a triple room not a double. I appreciated the air con and fan being on when we arrived. The room was well lit with large windows on two sides; spacious with wooden floors. It was a bit impersonal but clean.
We were set back on spacious grounds from the Stuart Hwy on a side road so no truck noise. Units are spread out in rows of ten with parking directly in front of the unit. Some units at the end of rows near the fence line are overlooked by apartments on the next block. There is a pool (towels available) and tennis courts with lights at night if needed (with racquets and balls from reception). BBQs, microwave, toaster, sink and fridge are available near the camping / caravan area. Reception was open from 8 am to 8 pm so helpful staff could give advice on sightseeing when we arrived in morning before we came back to check in. They can also book tours until 6 pm. Breakfast, from 6 am to 9 am was included in our price. The bar near reception was open from 4 pm and the restaurant from 5:30 pm to 9 pm. There was a good information book in room. It had Wifi.
Our bed had four pillows and a light duvet. There were no extra blankets but they weren’t needed. There were two bedside tables, two overhead bedside lights but unfortunately the double power points near the bed had odd power points and could not be used so we used the ones near the fridge and TV. The wardrobe had hanging space, clothes hangers and luggage rack with iron and ironing board. There was a mini-fridge, kettle, tea and coffee supplies. Inside was a desk with two chairs and two chairs and table outside.
The tiled bathroom was mobility friendly with support bars around toilet and hand rails in the curtained shower recess. The sink had some room on the side. I appreciated the hair dryer; toiletries were included (shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, shower cap, towels, tissues). The water pressure was OK but was just hot enough when only using hot tap.
- Nigel (10/5): - Amazing restaurant food
- Jasmine (8/5): - Older property however was kept clean and tidy, beds were comfortable, staff were helpful & friendly and it is a good spacious property.
- Fiona (8/5): Beautiful pool and garden - Kath at reception was really friendly and very efficient.
Pool was great.
Laundry was very handy.
Restaurant was ok with the food being good but cohesion between staff was lacking.
Surrounds including gardens were very neat.
Toilet seat was broken which I reported on checkout.
- Mark (10/5): - The Restaurant was awesome, food was great
- tonydI1994VG (10/5): Best place to stay and eat Katherine NT - What a great family run business, they have got it worked out.
Stay and enjoy both best bar and restaurant meals
Well done, would recommend to anyone traveling here.
Just had a great meal at their restaurant and they made cocktails beautifully
Regards
Tony
- Nalini (10/5): - Safe place to stay in Katherine with convenient parking
- Mark (10/5): - Prompt check in. Extremely comfortable rooms and bed. Great restaurant as well.
- 973robr (2/5): Did not sleep due to heat in room and bugs - First room i was given Air Con did not work, after requesting another room was moved to a room that had obviously been broken into as door was warped with Hot Air Blowing in all night, not to mention the bugs in the room.
Over head fan has 2 setting off and flat out.
Checked the Aircon and was disgusting, 40 mins to try and clean but barrel on inside was full of Mould.
No power point next to bed, bring your own 10 meter cable
- JeffS758 (10/5): Restaurant review - Has to be one the best meals I’ve had in Katherine. The staff were nothing but perfect (I think they were travellers) in every single way. Super polite, friendly and efficient. I hope you can hang on to them!
The meals were just as good. We had Baby Squid, lamb cutlets, bruschetta, souvlaki and Haloumi salad. They were all faultless.
Price were also very fair for the quality.
Thank you and see you next time.
Sorry about the poor photos 😊
- Renee (6/5): - Did the job for an overnighted , nice clean well maintained grounds . Room needs better pillows - should’ve brought my own, flat as a pancake .
- Arkay56 (8/5): Basic, wild but gave us all we needed. - This is a basic country motel but the staff were lovely and it had everything we needed. Comfortable bed, excellent mineral water swimming pool, and one of the best Italian restaurants we've found on site.
Located for the wild country so best for hiking, river trips, etc.
Just out of town though so no life after dark. Good 'indigenous' art gallery on site.
- 453rj (8/5): Safe Family Friendly Home away from Home - Great service, good humans, soothing huge pool & safe 4 acres to play hide & seek in.
We arrived at 11am and were greeted by smiling faces, offered to put our perishables in their fridge while we wait for early check in at 2pm.
Nothing was too much of an ask. We were given above & beyond service. We felt safe & made some friends in nearby family rooms.
- Scottster66 (8/5): Furkid and furparent friendly accommodation and excellent restaurant - We always planned to stay one night but due to flooding on the Stuart Hwy, we were 'forced' to remain for another 3 nights. We stayed in a pet friendly room.
Pro's
- Great booking experience direct with Laurie - gave us same rate as the previousl year's stay
- EXCELLENT meals from the restaurant - equal quality to anything in Darwin (including Pee Wees)
- Buffet Breakfast was also excellent Pool a barista coffee was lovely.
- Pool is shaded and cool
- In-room clothes washer and dryer
- Far enough away from town to allow a sense of security, but close enough for a walk or short drive for supplies.
- Ability to have our labrador at our outdoor restaurant table.
Con's
- The AC in our room did little to cool down the temperature and leaked condensate over the bed
- Fride door was missing bottle shelf
- Reception front door sign showing opening hours hasn't been updated.
We'll certainly stay again next time we are travelling through.
- elisabethg874 (8/5): Good place to stay in the area - After coming from smaller venues and cosier places our first impressions were mixed. It is a larger compound. When we entered the Deluxe Room the AC was leaking and water dripping out. We adressed this with the staff at the service desk and from here on everything went positive. They immediately gave us a new room and a voucher for breakfast. Mechanical things can happen and we were really very happy about the fast response. The Venue is a great starting point for enterprises to Katherine Gorge etc. We had dinner twice in the restaurant, suprised by the good quality and friendly staff. The pool was nice after a long day out. We are happy to recommend this place if you are staying in the area.
- tessk462 (6/5): Great restaurant - The room was not like the online pictures but was very spacious and beds were comfy enough. Location was good being out of town. The restaurant was a surprise package, we had dinner and the food was amazing as well as the service.
- Happyduck (6/5): Meh. Okay, but not great - The rooms are a bit tired but I found mine clean and comfortable enough. The pool area is pretty grim but the kids seemed to enjoy it. The restaurant is expensive for what it is in my opinion but convenient. I paid extra for the buffet breakfast is NOT good value in my opinion. Very, very basic which is fine but being asked to pay an extra $5 for a cup of coffee is pretty disappointing. I opted to head into town to grab coffee. It’s also the little things that were lacking, like salt and pepper on the tables. Next time I’d probably look around a bit more for something different, but if you are passing through it’s probably okay enough… just maybe consider heading into town for breakfast and lower your expectations of fine dining.
- Journey03781892419 (2/5): Don’t book without smelling/seeing it. Online photos are not a fair representation. - OMG. A shocker. I travel around Australia for work and this time the company booked on local recommendations and the website pictures. The worst I have ever seen and $300 a night. The room literally smell like something is dead in here. Struggled to eat lunch and dinner without vomiting. No offer to change to another room when brought to attention. Just gross. Old Sox and kids toys under the sofa. I hope I can attach the photos. LED light flicker at night, half the bathroom is dark, melamine peeling off furniture. Dirty microwave, Couch that is growing life, worn curtains falling off the rails, brown stained tea towels, Very crappy cooker, very old yucky microwave, no bench space, multiple broken electrical switches. Just greasy substandard all round except for the bathroom. Can’t wait to get out and it was booked for 4 weeks. Oh the humanity. Just a shame I can’t sleep in the bathroom.
- Helen (10/5): - Spacious, quiet, friendly efficient and welcoming staff.
- Kate (10/5): - Very friendly staff and extremely clean and comfortable room.
- Jia Qi (10/5): Happy with early check in - The staff was very friendly when we came early and allow us to check in when she found out that the room was available.
- Patricia (8/5): - Parking right outside was great and the gardens and pool area was lovely. Also sometimes its thelittle things that help so Ididsomewashing and itwasgreat that there were pegs available tohang the washing. Overall we had a great stay in a spacious andclean room.
- Lisa (10/5): - First visit, would stay again. Perfect for a family of 4 as we could cook our evening meal in the excellent kitchen!
- 261nickyg (10/5): Very clean and comfortable - The room was very clean. A little out dated, but it was very comfortable.
They need to put some cutlery in the rooms. Otherwise overall our stay was great. A nice restaurant and bar onsite as well. The grounds are well maintained.
- RachelNT (8/5): Excellent Choice - We chose to stay at the Contour Hotel Katherine as an overnight stay on our way to Darwin. It has very big rooms with comfortable beds. Huge bathroom and clean with fresh towels and generous complimentary bathroom toiletries. Little touches that help exhausted travellers. There is a restaurant which serves good food and the standard breakfast. There is even a coffee cart for real coffee. It was a little cool when we arrived but the pool looked very inviting. No complaints at all about this hotel.
- 491sallya (6/5): OK for a short stay - The rooms were just OK. Definitely needs an upgrade - particularly the bathroom. Beds were comfy. Restaurant menu was limited and servings were small and expensive. Was overall OK for a short stay.
- OssieBella (2/5): Worst Stay Ever in Substandard Rooms - Worst rooms we have had in 6 weeks travelling. Holes in the towels, bathroom window could not be locked, not even a microwave, window tracks and door tracks filthy and only one plastic chair to sit on for two people - not even a lounge to sit on. Staff extremely inefficient and debited credit card 7 days in advance for one booking when they state it is only debited 48 hours prior to stay. We had to cancel this advanced booking due to car troubles and had to phone twice to get a refund processed. Then they redebited the booking we had cancelled 48 days prior to the original date again. Very frustrating and incompetent.
- duncan (8/5): - The security
- Danny (4/5): - This place needs some help. Staff were great doing their best. Don't think the room we were given had been occupied for a while. The floors were gritty and our feet went black from the dirt on the floor. No tea spoons only paddle sticks/ just three small glasses. No wine glasses. The Ironing board was broken and the shower with the wrap around flimsy plastic curtain stuck to you while having a shower.
Big step up into the room from outside. Catches you by surprise if you are not careful stepping out. Bit of a safety issue for older people. Basic 2.5 stars!
- kym (8/5): - Staff were very friendly
- Garry (8/5): Overall, pretty Good! - My husband and I stayed one night. We were kindly upgraded to a larger room which was huge. The room itself was very clean and had everything we needed. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The bathroom however could do with enlarging and a whole new fitout. The grounds were very well kept and beautifully green. We had dinner at the restaurant which was terrific.
- Claudia (8/5): - Good location for my needs.
My second stay; and very comfortable beds.
Might be time to get rid of those pesky shower screens !
- Jessica (10/5): - Nice comfy beds, probably one of the best hotels in town. Definitely the best food in town for dinner choices. Nice pool too
- Neil (6/5): - Room i stayed in was dated however clean.
Hot water took an entirety to get to room for a shower
- Lesley (8/5): - Security Gates
- Stephen (6/5): - No immediate hot water in the en suite. Over priced menu at the restaurant.
- Caitlyn (6/5): - For the price charged you would expect that the amenities would be in better condition. Bathroom had tiles that were ready to fall off the wall, hot water in the shower only worked when it felt like it!
- Marion (10/5): - Great staff and great service. It is in a quiet location
- Julie (8/5): - The beds were super comfy, rooms clean, good quality airconditioners and the pool area and gardens had been cleaned up since my last visit. We come every year for the Katherine Birthday Carnival.
I did not like the fridge in room #13 as it was not functional, it had a shelf missing in the fridge and a shelf missing in the door whicjmh meant we had to stack food items on top of each other.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very old & quiet out dated & led globes need the bugs cleaned out poor bathroom lighting
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Large family rooms were great but the shower in the bathroom was terrible and no table and chairs to sit at inside or outside. Badly in need of renovation.
