- Diana (7/5): Good accommodation for a couple of nights. - Great location. Esperanza is very small, so I’d say all accommodations have a good location actually. There are beach towels, chairs etc to use for free. That was nice. The communication prior to arrival was very poor. I was traveling and only had a data eSIM. Host does not answer WhatsApp, Booking messages or any other messaging service. We booked a chalet (bedroom + living room with sofa bed) and asked for sheets for the sofa bed as we were 2 friends traveling together. He was surprised when i mentioned it at the check in but he gave us a bag with sheets and towels. No AC in the living room, so the one sleeping there got a bit warm.

Had stayed at Tortuga before. This time the unit’s floor was not clean, the bed is due for replacement as it is lumpy and uncomfortable, and there is noticeable lack of maintenance and upkeep. When paying for a stay, a customer expects appliances that work (A/C, fridge, MW) and hot water. Sarcastic and condescending treatment are also not appropriate.

But I contacted booking that day and was told that I couldn't get a full refund. And no refund has been received within five days. Is this a black shop?

We were able to drive to amazing beaches, and walk from the guesthouse to our bio bay tour and to various places to eat, shop, drink, and dance. The place was absolutely charming, with everything we needed for a nice stay. We were even visited by a sweet feline friend.

Stayed in one of the casitas which was very cute and comfortable--lots of space and a little kitchenette. No significant cons other than price but that's more a complaint about Esperanza in general--found it to be on par with other guest houses in the area.

- Heather (10/5): - Beautiful room and wonderful host! Property is in walking distance of a lot of the main bars and restaurants and food trucks of the Esperanza coats area. The property itself has a picturesque pool area. We can’t wait to come back!

El apartamento, a pesar de su elevado precio, presentaba unas condiciones totalmente inaceptables. A nuestra llegada, comprobamos que estaba en un estado de suciedad extrema: las superficies estaban sucias, había cucarachas en las encimeras de la cocina, detrás de las camas y en varias zonas de la vivienda. En general, el nivel de limpieza era prácticamente inexistente, lo que hizo la experiencia no solo desagradable, sino también insalubre. Quiero recalcar especialmente lo sucedido la primera noche: mientras dormíamos, una cucaracha llegó a subirse encima de uno de nosotros. Fue, sin duda, uno de los peores momentos de nuestras vidas y generó una sensación de enorme angustia y repulsión que condicionó por completo nuestra estancia. Estas circunstancias distan mucho de los estándares mínimos que se esperan de un alojamiento anunciado en su plataforma, y han supuesto una grave decepción en relación con lo que se nos ofreció y lo que realmente encontramos. They have lots of little things that they don't really mention that make everything more fun. There are baby chickens who walk the perimeter of the property. They were so much fun for my daughter to see. They have mango and star fruit trees as well that the owner lets you eat from as you wish. Imagine waking up and picking a fresh mango to start your day. The owner is nice and you are less than a block from the strip and pickup point for most of the tours. The place is great for those going to the beach because it's tile floors and he includes a broom in the room so you accidentally track in any sand, you can get it out yourself if you like. But you dont have to worry about this because he actually has an outside shower for you to wash off first. He also has a boogie board, beach towels, a pool noodle. Its all those little things that show how much he cares. A1 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 hotel.

- Walker (2/5): Run down and not worth the price - The location was perfect for accessing the beach, shops, and restaurants. The stove in the kitchen didn't work, one of the showers never got hot water, the toilet made this terrible, high-pitched squeal when you flushed, and the sofa bed was rock hard and barely usable. The gentleman running the place was very displeased with any additional requests or complaints. He was hard to get hold of and never fixed the shower issue. I would not stay here again.

- Phoebe (6/5): Great amenities, stiff vibe. - In 12 days, we stayed in 4 accommodations and this was the only place that had a blanket (vs just a sheet) and I slept better here than anywhere else. It also was the only place that provided soap and coffee. The little things make a huge difference! We got the sense we were bothering the owner, like he wasn’t happy to have guest, like we were intruding. He was helpful in giving directions and letting us store bags but always seemed annoyed at the same time.

- Ryan (3/5): Third-world condemned rubbish pile ready for the bulldozer. - The leaking cracks in the concrete support beams were soothing as water dropped onto the floor. I figure someone is going to get wasted when it collapses in on itself sooner or later. It’s a rusted out favela death trap that should be condemned. I literally can’t believe that Booking listed this heaping trash pile. Property does not respond to texts, calls or messages via Booking, by the way.

It fit our budget and provided a surprising amount of amenities in the room. We enjoyed meeting the colorful proprietor and creator of this retreat,Skip, and we appreciate all the behind-the-scenes hard work that goes into welcoming visitors to this special part of Puerto Rico.

He takes pride in managing the property and was helpful with finding restaurants, etc. The location is walkable to several nice restaurants and a boardwalk. The location is near roosters that are quite loud. This is more of an observation and may be the same in other facilities. Just be prepared to be awakened early.

A very short walk to the "Esperanza strip". Would definitely stay again!

- Verified traveler (6/5): Moderate your expectations - There aren't many options on Vieques for large groups, so we were grateful to find this place. However, note that moderating your expectations will do a lot to improve your stay. The owner is abrasive, so be prepared. Our room had A/C units that worked, and the room was adequate for our family. The pool was small but kids enjoyed it. Location is a plus -- close to store, main strip with restaurants/bars, and the shore. However, the other families that vacationed with us had a more difficult time -- cold shower water, A/C that didn't work, dirty rooms, etc.

They rip you off and not well kept - Having the separate two bedroom apartment was accomodating land the little outdoor patio shared space was very nice. Property was not keep up. Run down jeep in front driveway, the pool was not cleaned and was not able to be used by the guest nor was the area clean nor set up for coming guests. Christmas decorations and tress everywhere mid February. The fridge in our apartment was rusty and moldy all along the outside and doorseal. And to top it off the lady that checked us in overcharged me and when I brought it up to her about my all in price and showing her my proof she didn’t want to acknowledge it and made some excuse and continued to charge like $40 more.

- Terrance (7/5): Great stay with a great host! - The location was perfect for us. We didn't rent any transportation, so it was important to be in walking distance to the beaches, restaurants, etc. This was exactly that. Skip was very hospitable and accommodating. From the roosters calling, to horses and dogs walking free, to the beautiful beaches, delicious food and friendly people...we'd go back in a heartbeat. Tortuga Guesthouse would be on our list of places to stay again! This place is a great, but it also bohemian. If you're looking for the latest updates in hotels, this isn't for you. I like hotels that use new definition of "boutique hotel" in style and sophistication. This is boutique in the sense that it's small and independently operated. I know the difference and didn't that to adjust much. I will say that there was no real privacy in the bathroom with a loose gliding door and an open ceiling. The water pressure in the shower is lacking, but it wasn't a problem for us for one night.

There are numerous chickens in the neighborhood and they like to squawk at all hours of the night. We were in a two bedroom, two bathroom room. One of the shower heads was broken (apparently by a recent guest). The manager did point this out and handled the situation well.

- Patricia (10/5): We had a wonderful relaxed stay in the convenient and beautiful Casa de Tortuga. - The location was terrific -- just a few steps away from the Malecon -- the walkway along the beach, and many restaurants, and a very short walk to a small grocery store. Our room was beautifully furnished, and we had our own patio and a small kitchen. The building itself is well designed with a good mix of private and communal spaces. The pool was wonderful -- surrounded by trees and beautiful furnishings. At night the hotel and grounds are lit with blue and white lights and look magical. Skip, our host was very friendly and provided us with lots of useful information about where to go and how to get there. Everything was great -- no complaints.
- Dean (8/5): - The location is great, a short walk to the beach, but away from noisy bars. Clean apartment with aging furniture. We liked the outdoor spaces for hanging out, the patio for our unit and the pool area. The little pool has lots a shade, which is great in the heat of the day. But property maintenance is lacking, with broken furniture by the pool and "junk" lying around. With a little more maintenance, this would be a fantastic spot.
