• Donna (5/5): Rooms were clean, and comfortable. - Breakfast was awful, we did not eat there our second morning. First morning watched the not very nice check in gal walk over to the sausage bung, lift it up, and stick her nasty hand in there and grab sausage. Gal who checked us in was not friendly at all, and gave us no information. We had to ask about anything, like breakfast, and hours. However, we started a fire, and the young staffers there in the evening were very kind and helpful. The wood bin was full, but they stuffed new wood onto of the older drier wood, so we had to make a hole, and pull wood from the bottom.

• Petra (9/5): Nice hotel, Not A Resort - The staff was very helpful. We started to move into our room on the second floor when I realized my big old dog wasn't going to be able to navigate the steps. The front desk manager found another room and said he'd be willing to carry my old girl if necessary. There was also a nice view of Lake Superior from the area with a fire pit and grill. Pool area was nice. Room was quiet. I had to leave. Also guest washer was out of order which was inconvenient but we found a laundry up the road so not a tragedy.

They had granola bars available all day, tea and coffee however the coffee was weak wish it were stronger and wish there was hot water available at night for tea, the pool area was amazing with a hot sauna, my only complaint was the chemicals were so strong in the hot tub and pool that the kids (10 kids) were all coughing and there eyes were burning, even the adults sitting pool side eyes and throat were burning, we did not see any pool attendees testing the water during our stay. The location is 10 mins from Lutsen!

• muggins81 (10/5): Winter wanderlust getaway - We had an amazing experience! Did the ski and stay package with Lutsen. Hotel was great! Loved the pool / hot tub after a day of skiing and the hot tub in our room was an amazing bonus! Everything was super clean and staff was great. We will definitely be back!!! It was so nice to see how busy it was and all the ski doos parked outside … this what winter is about!!!

• Flanagan (9/5): I always enjoy staying at your location! - I like the egg bake and the meat at the breakfast bar. I LOVE your location--it is remote enough to feel like I'm truly up North. I'm grateful that there is a service station right there too. I am a repeat customer. There was a power outage on Sunday night and it was quite cold. The chlorine from the pool was really strong.

• 212suzannem (6/5): Nice family friendly hotel - Location of this hotel is great. The lobby was cutely decorated for Christmas and the room was clean and comfortable. The noise from the hallway was bad the first night of our stay, so bad I had to complain about the loud drunks hanging out in the hallway, but the second night was quite. The staff members are all friendly and they work hard to please their guests. They are in the middle of some room renovations so that's great. The only thing that was really bad was the chlorine in the pool area; as soon as you walk in the chemicals hit your eyes and throat. We couldn't stay in the pool for more than 15 minutes and others in the pool were talking about the same. We took our grand children specifically to this hotel because they love to swim so it was a bummer we were unable to enjoy this amenity.

I visited with Senja, the manager who is very friendly and helpful. Senja also explained how they take pride and keep their cleanliness to higYh standard.
• Gogirl44 (6/5): Okay, but likely would not stay here again - I'd say this hotel is about 3.5 stars. It was not nearly as nice as the AmericInn we'd stayed the previous night in a different locale (at less than half the rate in Tofte!) but a decent place to lay your head. Not sure if it is lack of staff or not wanting to invest the money to keep it up. The entire place--staff and building--just seemed sad and tired. The decor throughout the hotel was rather strange, weird-looking images of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Trying to build on the "America" theme perhaps? The breakfast was passable, a bare minimim basic hotel breakfast. What surprised me was how dirty many of the windows were, especially in the pool area. Their pool has a gorgeous view of Lake Superior, but you can't enjoy it for all the grime on the windows. When we booked, we did not realize Tofte only has three restaurants, all of which are owned by the resort in town. The desk clerk suggested Coho Bakery Cafe and it was excellent food and service, best part of our stay! We stayed here for one night on our way further up the North Shore. For that purpose, it meet our needs. If I were going to be in the area for a longer period, I would likely spring the extra money for a room at the resort.

The pool was so overchlorinated that we all had red eyes, and my daughter developed an asthma attack. You need to recalibrate the chlorine levels in your pool and add ventilation!

• Patrick (10/5): - This is the North Shore’s best kept secret. It’s a very nice hotel with a terrific staff. Kids love the pool, too! This hotel is directly in the heart of the North Shore and is a great jumping off point to Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail, the Splitrock Lighthouse and more. So many places overcharge for their stays, but this place is priced right for families. A very friendly convenience store is adjacent and you can see the lake right from the hotel. Breakfast is pretty good too and you have many options to choose from. Don’t be a sucker and book at an overpriced resort, this is what you need.

This fit the bill. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was excellent, with a good variety of items, including scrambled eggs, waffles, bagels, and sausages.

Das zusaetzliche Bett, fuer welches wir extra bezahlt haben, war durchgelegen und sehr unbequem. Die Bettwäsche hatte Loecher 'reingerissen und war abgenutzt. In unser Zimmer tropfte vom Zimmer ueber uns Wasser aus der Hot Tub.

• jennaferw (10/5): Great pet hotel experience - This pet friendly hotel was fantastic. Our king room had a hot tub which was great after several days in the BWCA. The king bed was comfortable and the sheets so soft. The room smelled clean - not like there had been a million dogs before. The free breakfast was good. I would recommend staying here if you need an overnight place to stay along the north shore.
