Guest Reviews
- Martin (8/5): A genuine traditional welcoming hostelry - What a lovely traditional inn, was exactly the kind of place I love staying in. The staff were all excellent, really friendly, attentive and ready to help in any way they could. The room was quaint, had character and was very comfortable. All the food was very nice, generous portion sizes and fresh. The ales were cracking, someone clearly understands how to tend and serve them, even the wine was a reasonable price. Loved our break and would certainly consider returning. Unfortunately the Farmer's Arms is on the road and our front facing room only had single glazing, got some road noise at night, but not enough to spoil our stay. It was unfortunate that there were piles of poo, presumably from the pub dog, on the approach from the car park, not very attractive.
- Carolyn (8/5): A great realCornish place to stay - It was a lovely Cornish inn with live music and plenty of visitors . Close to Harlyn Bay and reasonably priced a Large car park and very helpful staff.
- Julie (9/5): A great weekend in a lovely old pub. We and our dog were made most welcome. - Vibrant and lively pub, room was spacious, clean and comfortable
- Helen (10/5): -

- Sarah (9/5): Perfect location and place to start our Cornish trip away - Good atmosphere
- New (8/5): - Gorgeous building, super helpful staff but room street view was noisy and too hot to close windows. Apart from the noise 10pm-midnight was lovely and would still recommend as long as you not early sleepers. Amazing breakfast ! Yum
- Robert (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Fantastic rooms and service with fantastic hospitality Nothing
- Kenneth (10/5): - Great location for our trip. Room was clean and had all amenities that we needed. Breakfast was excellent - hot and cold options readily available, served in a timely manner. Hosts were very friendly and attentive.
- Peter (3/5): Over priced hotel accommodation with some issues. - Plenty of free parking in the hotel car park.
Room size was small, bathroom size above average.
Good hot water, particularly in shower/bath.
Bus stop directly outside the hotel, adjacent to car park. Easy to use. Almost everything:-
Dirty carpet and dark room,
Wi-Fi only worked the first day,
The sewage backed up whereby discoloured water and a smell came bubbling up out of the drain on the last afternoon we were there. Notified the owner (wife) and followed up twice. She promised that when here husband got home she would send him to the room to investigate - we never saw him and no follow up from the wife. We left the next morning choosing not to take a shower.
- Melina (8/5): -
- Lyndsay (10/5): - Very welcoming, excellent room, very clean and great facilities Nothing
- AnnG (10/5): - A lovely old inn, which is what we wanted. A very welcoming atmosphere, Jackie is a great host. Food was so good. The tomato soup was definitely the best I've ever had. Met some very friendly locals, which is always a bonus. I highly recommend. The area is lovely, and as we stayed 4 nights, we were able to see quite a lot from the Farmers Arms base. Everything very good
- Guest (8/5): - Friendly staff and good breakfast Noise from bar but understandable staying in a public house
- Joy (10/5): Great chips - Amazing proper home made chips. So many places say this on menu and serve frozen chips .These are proper hand cut amazing chips perfectly cooked .lovely staff .Thank you
- Christina (10/5): - The pub is run by a lovely family, don’t think I’ve ever felt so welcomed. Room was clean and comfortable with every thing we needed, plenty of towels, great over bath shower, tea and coffee etc. We had a great meal standout dish was home made cow &ale pie and the wonderful home made proper puddings. Good choice at breakfast of cooked to order dishes. Great place to stay and we will stay again if we revisit area.
- Trevor (9/5): Met our expectations - Traditional values Nothing to criticise
- Kerry-Anne (8/5): Very historic place to stay. Lovely friendly staff. - Location and ambience were great. Room was a good size. Breakfast was good and cooked on request. Staff very welcoming and helpful. The noise coming through the vent in our room, from the downstairs TV, bar and patrons, kept us awake until after 10ish.
- Liza (6/5): - Friendly staff Common areas v smelly
Walls v thin so could hear everything from room next door
Did not reply to query email
- Karen (10/5): -
- Andy (8/5): - Staff, room comfort and facilities

- Keith (8/5): - Gary and Jacqui - the Landlord and Landlady made us feel genuinely welcome as did their Staff.
The Restaurant Menu provided a good choice and is reasonably priced.
The Room we stayed in was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed.
We will be returning as Guest again but we felt we left as Friends.
We both recommend The Farmers Arms in St Merryn as an ideal base for a Weekend or longer in a proper Village Pub. You will need to book in advance for Food and Accommodation as it is a very popular Pub.
- Smith (9/5): Solo traveller with dog stayed 2 nights - Super friendly staff. Comfortable room. Excellent food. Family run pub that is busy and successful. Part if the town community. Not too far from the SWCP. Cheaper than accommodation in Padstow. Was able to take my dog and made to feel welcome. Nothing of any significance. Some customers who had a room at the front complained of very occasional noise from the street, but fortunately I had a room at the rear.
- Terence (9/5): A good friendly inn to stay - Excellent friendly staff, good food and comfortable room.
Would definitely stay again No negatives at all
- Grace (8/5): - Classic English pub vibes with very comfortable bed.
- Debbie (10/5): Excellent! Staff & locals were brilliant! Food was super yummy too 😊 - Lovely traditional pub with comfy, cozy rooms, plus extremely doggie friendly 🐾🐾 Absolutely nothing we didn’t like
- Pendleton (10/5): Definitely will visit again. - It was nice clean and inviting, The staff were friendly and the breakfast was awesome, such a quaint lovely pub with good meals.
- Simone (7/5): -
- Julian (9/5): Excellent pub stay. - Fantastic staff were helpful and friendly.
Bar full of locals, and restaurant very busy with food was a good sign, and we found out why. Great selection of drinks, and the food was perfect. We’ve had steaks in other places that didn’t have as much meat as the cow pie has in it! Absolutely top meal. Homemade desserts and cakes are definitely worth leaving room for too.
The room was large enough for a comfortable longer stay, although we were only booked one night. We had a great sleep in the comfy bed.
Location right at the centre of the village with shop , garage and chip shop metres away.
Huge car park at the rear of the building and a smaller one facing.
Absolutely recommend and would stay again.
No negatives at all.
- Caroline BAGNALL (8/5): - Friendly and convenient. Nicely appointed room. Fresh and comfortable. You could hear people in the bar below my room. But it didn't disturb me.

- Karen (8/5): - The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for you.
The food was good and the place had a good atmosphere. The only issue was the fitted sheet on the bed. It was very worn and thin. The duvet and cover were lovely.
- Guest (10/5): I’m looking forward to my next trip - Lovely staff, they must see hundreds of visitors every year but still made me feel special. Couldn’t get Coffee at the bar during the afternoon.
- David (9/5): Enjoyable stay in traditional Cornish pub, not many left like this. - Proper pub with loads of history. Great hearty food and welcoming staff. Harder than expected to get there from the coastpath. Bus didn’t turn up at Harlyn, and walking on the road was a bit dangerous.
