Guest Reviews
- Hasan (10/5): - Room was great for 4 of us, would recommend for convenience!
- ann (10/5): - Basic, no frills, but safe, clean and great location.
- Mary Ann (8/5): - great value, location, space, good shower
- Ignacio (10/5): - Not the best and not the worst. The location of the Hotel is perfect đ I will definitely check in back to this Hotel. Thanks St.Marks â€ïžđ
- James (8/5): - No Elevater. But a very spartan room that provided what I needed
- Eric (6/5): - Location was great with a lively street
Lots of shops and places to eat
Staff was friendly
Close to main subway access
Room was small but hey itâs a room.
Shower did leak but I didnât have to use my rain app to fall asleep.
No amenities but for the price it does the job
- Rae (4/5): Know before you go! - The front desk wants you to pay for three nights in cash. Three nights minimum they say but thatâs before even seeing the rooms! If you are unhappy with the rooms beware since you have paid in advance you may struggle to get a refund of your cash
I had to stay two nights or Iâd lose my two nights cash for stay but got refunded for one night only and went somewhere better. Itâs loud, smelly and the beds are like better than jailâŠbut super uncomfortable regardless
- Laurentius (10/5): - Not the most modern looking, but it was clean, staff friendly and everything (incl subway) close at very reasonable price. Just donât forget they only accept cash
- christian (6/5): - It was nothing similar to the pictures and weak ac blowing
- Tomasz (8/5): - Good place to stay for couple of days. Clean beathroom
- Deborah (4/5): Old and needs a good deep clean. - No elevator (which was fine for me but should be taken into consideration by others), had to run the sink water simultaneously along with the shower water for 5 minutes to get a hot shower, beds well made but only a light weight old blanket, sheets very low quality, carpets, molding, shower corners dirty. Pros: great price price, private bathroom/shower, sunlight blackout shutters are great, no street noise. at night. Great location! Close to Washington Square Park.
- cassandra (4/5): - The hotel is generally unkept and had a very damp mouldy smell at the bottom of the stairs. Our room was neat but I found a few stray hairs so felt like it wasnât cleaned well. The shower had mould or atleast stained grouting and due to the floor we were on, I couldnât open a window. Thereâs no fan in the bathroom so I always felt like it was a very stuffy room. The aircon looked to me as if it also had mould inside. It was black and spotty so either dust or mould, which made me uncomfortable given Iâm unable to air the room. The pillows were very hard and some misshapen. The beds are very firm and flat. The staff here are ok.
- Kassandra (8/5): - the hotel is right near colleges and above a nice pizza/bagel/deli and near Astor place and union square subway stations. I would 100% stay here again - great price compared to the rest of manhattan for small quaint quarters. It was a little noisy on the 1st floor from the street but nothing I haven't experienced at more luxurious hotels. I felt safe and slept well and the location was excellent. On Bowery which was a nice street when I walked south to downtown / seaport ~45 mins and 2 blocks from broadway which I walked ~45 mins to Times Square. Ubers weren't too pricey and trains were super convenient.
- David (6/5): - No frills Hotel. Good if you are traveling alone. Would not recommend if traveling with spouse or a family
- Krzysztof (10/5): - Rays pizza was super.
- Robert (10/5): - Staff was very friendly. Not the most modern by any means but it was clean and in a great location. Will definitely stay again.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - You canât beat the price. I mean itâs safe, clean, and staff are friendly. Obviously itâs not the ritz but your getting a great deal. All other hotels we Chekaâs o
- Meighan (10/5): - Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Excellent location.
- Daphne (10/5): itâs a simple, comfortable place in NYC - I had an exceptional experience during my stay last week, especially considering the price. This is not a luxury hotelâitâs a simple, comfortable place to rest while enjoying New York City.
The location is excellent: the subway is literally right in front of the hotel, and there are restaurants and a deli on the ground floor. The area is lively, with plenty of nightlife nearby, and itâs within walking distance to SoHo, the piers, Chinatown, and more. Public transportation access (bus and subway) is right at the doorstep, which made getting around the city very easy.
What I really appreciated is that if you arrive early, you can leave your luggage at the hotel, and the same goes for when you check out. That added a lot of convenience. Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely return. For me, this place is a hidden gem in NYCâgood, affordable, and comfortable.
- Felipe (10/5): - Even though the property doesn't offer any food options, the hotel will be surrounded by different restaurants and other options.
- David (10/5): - A historic hotel and an authentic NY experience. If youâre looking for Egyptian cotton sheets and perfumed pillowcases, this isnât for you. I wanted a calm, quiet, centrally located, historic and reasonably priced place to stay while experiencing the awesomeness of NY and I loved it.
- Orlando J Diaz (4/5): - Good location, dirty old hotel, is only good for one night and to take a shower after a flight.
- Vijay (4/5): - Although the hotel is in prime location but bed sheet and blanket was not clean and the room was also stinking
- Robert (10/5): - Excellent.Close to everything
- Leigh (6/5): - The property was a good value for your money, but it is very basic bed clean bathroom. They take only cash and there is no elevator.
- Judy (6/5): - Hotel could you a refurbishing. The room was clean, but tiny. The hotel room can work for a long weekend with minimal luggage. The location is good, easy access to public transportation lots of restaurants. The hotel room is bare bones, a bed, a bathroom, no closet, one chair.
- Nathaniel (8/5): - Generally a really great experience,
- Hannah (10/5): - Really impressed with how clean the rooms are considering it is an older building. Very quaint, such a great deal for downtown, would definitely stay again!!
- Shengmei (8/5): - The location is perfect, staff is excellent. We got a room not facing the street, itâs quiet. The beds and bedding are too old and worn. Upgrading AC can be expensive, replacing bedding is definitely not!
- Brianna (10/5): - I love that they clean the sheets and make the bed everyday!!! It was so nice coming back from a long day in the city to a clean room. Really nice and quiet area, definitely worth the visit!!
- Carla (10/5): - Good value, perfect location.
- Ralph (4/5): - Most reviews point out good things about the property but unfortunately my experience didnât live up to those expectations.
My room was infested with bugs and roaches. They were continuously coming through the bathroom vent. Management was unhelpful.
- Sumit (6/5): - .
- Tai (8/5): - Best value for the price.
- Daisy (8/5): - You get what you pay for, if youâre looking for an inexpensive stay in nyc this is the place. The beds arenât comfy, the pillows were extremely lumpy, the floors looked like they hadnât been swept in the restroom, shower walls and curtains were not clean. The restroom door really didnât close. Besides that the location is great and convenient. The subway is near by and the staff were super friendly.
- Kevin (8/5): - Great staff
- Bryan (10/5): - Great location! Staff was friendly at all times
- Melanie (8/5): - If you donât mind a walk-up this is an excellent place to stay. The pros: location, cleanliness, room size (for nyc) the price (for NYC) the cons: the eclectic neighborhood is not for everyone, the uneven steps up narrow staircases are tough on older knees, the AC in room is pretty noisy (but very effective).
Itâs a clean safe cheap place to stay with trains to anywhere in the boroughs you might want to go.
We found the aged bathroom and furniture charming and the beds were comfortable enough to get a good nights sleep.
- Md Mahmud (10/5): - Very good
- Lu (10/5): - Very convenient. Only, you should know it doesnât have an elevator!!! And we got the 3rd floor with luggage. Anyways, the staff was kind and they help us taking it up
- Karya (8/5): - The tap was broken so the water was flowing everywhere, and the shower tap also seemed broken so I could hardly turn on the hot water. The toilet seat was very old. The bed sheets did not look very clean. I was not sure about the cleanliness of the room in general. Other than that, the facilities were as advertised.
- Marcela (2/5): - This hotel had a 3-star rating, and it was awful. I would not recommend it to anyone
- Bike (10/5): - location, cleanliness and staff!!
- J (8/5): - Great location, clean room. If youâre not planning on spending a lot of time inside then this is a great choice for the price.
- Jonathan (8/5): - Good for the price
- Betsy (4/5): - Smelly room, black mold in the bathroom, including cealing.
Noisy street. No elevator!
- William (8/5): - Great value, great location
- Anshu (6/5): - The hotel is at convinient location. The family room's window was opening on a wall so the room was claustrophobic.
Bathroom didn't have latch inside. And the bathing soap cake was same as hand wash. Room didn't have any water kettle and no provision for driming water. While staff was helpful but was lacking warmth and you don't feel welcoming.
Be aware that hotel accepts only cash and there is no elevator in the hotel and the stair cases are a bit narrow and steep.
- john (8/5): - Perfectly positioned for all the main attractions. Great vibe, great restaurants, pubs etc.
Dobt be put off by the cash only policy, this just stops banks from taking their cut!
- Jennifer (2/5): - Absolutely no idea how this hotel has got an average of over 7/10. Cockroaches coming up through the drain in the bathroom, staff member uninterested when we reported it- said that he thought they had been "bug free for a while" and couldn't help us which was not reassuring!
Two other staff members were friendly when we checked in and offered to help with luggage but ultimately, the hotel is a bit of a dump to say the least. We expected basic, but not the filthy room carpet, air con unit filled with dust, stained sheets on the bed, no fire escape route on the door or alarm in room etc.
The only thing I can say is the location is great, walkable to many areas of interest and subway stations etc.
- Adam (8/5): - Amazing location, and friendly staff. Beds were creaky but comfy and were made daily which was nice. I would stay again, although with ear plugs as the window offered no sound proofing to the traffic and 24 hour pizza restaurant below.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Canât ask for better value. Outstanding location!
- Peter (10/5): - ALWAYS VISIT THE WEBSITE AND RESEARCH LOCAL AREA.
Hotel is CASH ONLY which is fine and they do state that on their website and emails.
There is NO LIFT and so it's STAIRS ONLY but, again they state all this on their website and emails.
The area is close to the subway but is in walking distance to many tourist attractions and the local area is totally safe to travel around at all times.
For the price, it's perfect.
The bed was neat and tidy as well as very comfortable with plenty of pillows.
Bathroom was small yet practical with everything you needed and had shampoo, soap and spare toilet roll for your stay.
If you're bringing large luggage be prepared for a tight squeeze but as I had written before, do your research.
Overall the hotel is well situated and staffed through the night who can help you with all your needs.
Would definitely stay there again in the future.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Check-in was quick and easy. I knew it was cash only, so I was prepared. The staff offered to carry our bags to the room. We were on the ground floor this time and didn't need help. Previously, we were on an upper floor and did appreciate the help. A kind and lovely young lady cleaned our room every day. Restaurants, grocery stores, and subways were close by. The room got a little too toasty in the middle of the day. The heating/cooling system could be improved upon. We appreciate the history and simplicity of this hotel and will stay here again on our next trip to New York City.
- Anne (8/5): Friendly Ukrainian neighborhood. - This was a new neighborhood for me. One which was definitely off limits 40 years ago, now safe and friendly. Ukrainian. An old hotel with small rooms and no elevator. Not for the weak in lugging up and down suitcases on narrow stairs.Luckily we packed light. Staff was very helpful in directions to restaurants. Close to Number 6 local subway.
Volveria a hospedarme. Gracias
- Jimmy (8/5): Good value for money - Stayed for six nights and thought it was good value for money. It does get loud at night, though, so may not be so great if you're not willing to sleep with earplugs.
- DĂĄniel (10/5): - Good location.
- Noelani (10/5): - Will be coming back. In prime spot in east village!
- Nila (2/5): - I never got to this property because after arriving in new york, I picked up a message that they expect only cash. Cash for a three night stay in new york is a lot. I did not see anything about a cash only policy when I booked with expedia. If it was buried in the fine print, that print was too fine. You should not be offering this hotel unless you put that information front and center
- Nancy (10/5): European-style accommodations - We stayed at this hotel for three nights as a family and had three rooms. The staff was very kind and accommodating. One standout feature is their daily cleaning service, which is no longer the norm in many hotels. For food options, thereâs a cafĂ© and a pizza place right next to the hotel, and IHOP is within walking distance. The location is convenientâyou can walk to the subway, or if you prefer a cab, expect to pay around $30â$35 for a ride to Broadway or nearby areas.
The rooms are modest and compact, reminiscent of European-style accommodations, with only the essentials provided. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay in New York and donât mind a simpler setup, this could be a great option.
However, be aware that this hotel is cash-only and does not have an elevator.
Hope this helps!
- kathryn (6/5): - Positive: price, quiet, great location, comfortable bed.
Negative: seedy, dirty carpet.
You get what you pay for.
- Martyn (6/5): - The property is well past its best a bit scruffy.. Compared to the hotels around Manhattan it was cheap. Room very small shower room even smaller. If you want somewhere just to sleep then itâs ok, no other facilities
- Ashraf (10/5): - Nis
- KaterinaD422 (10/5): perfect place - I came for New York for 5 days! never ever been in New York! I loved this place... especially people who work there! Sammy for example, what a nice person.... when I arrived with mom to that hotel, he gave room, on the 3rd floor! room number 37! with two beds! Sammy if you read this and still remember us! we home, safe and sound :) thank you for your hospitality.... Katya and Lyubov! NY always be in my heart.... God bless you. I recommend this hotel.... .....
- Maria (8/5): - The location of the hotel is excellent and the price is probably the best you can find. You have to pay the full cost in cash at check-in, but that isn't much of an issue. While the price is good, keep in mind that the room and accommodations mirror this.
You get a room with a bed, a TV, a cubby-like closet with 4 hangers and a single chair. No table, no dresser, no kettle, coffee-maker or hair dryer. The washroom has limited space as well, and the shower might be too narrow for those with a wider build. There is also no elevator so keep that in mind (i think there's 4 floors total)
Unfortunately, the level of cleanliness was lacking for me, with paint peeling at the corners of the room, lots of dust around the radiator, bedding and towels having stains, mold (?) between the washroom wall tiles and on the shower curtain.
We started off with 2 hand towels and 2 bath towels for my partner and I, but after the 1st day, we were only given 2 bath towels. It was a little peculiar, but we didn't care enough to speak up about it.
My biggest gripes were the lack of a hairdryer and the cleanliness, but all in all I think this hotel is an excellent choice for those with a tight budget or those who only need a place to sleep and shower.
- Soumya (10/5): - Excellent location, courteous staff, nothing fancy but unbeatable price.
- Ivan (8/5): - Old small rooms, cash only, good location. Not bad for this price.
- Angelo (8/5): - Excellent location with wonderful staff.
ÂżSi me volverĂa a quedar? Lo podrĂa volver a considerar si es la opciĂłn mĂĄs economica en manhattan.
- Jeffrey (6/5): You get what you pay for⊠- It was okay. Best part: the restaurant downstairs; worst part: the place has no elevator, and was probably in violation of several fire codes.
- Lev (2/5): - Hotel itself is absolutely terrible. Dirty, staff donât care about anything, no elevators, our beds were made but the staff didnât care to take out any trash. walls are paper thin and our bathroom had a nonstop leaking noise. Donât stay here unless you are prepared for all the above. only good thing was the location of this place.
- William (8/5): - Excellent location and affordable. Staff is very friendly. Private bathrooms are clean.
- VICTOR M. (2/5): - A dump
- Karina (10/5): - If youâre looking for a hotel where youâre in the middle of the city specifically the West Village, which is very convenient and close to many dining options and shopping thatâs open 24 hours. This is the place for you and especially if youâre not looking for a two talkative staff that just give you what you need and a place just to sleep and spend the night. The rooms are not very big but it gives you what you need.
- Kangmin (10/5): - Great location
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very economical, and you get what you pay for. - This place is very bare-bones with kind of a weird vibe. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, and the bathroom barely had any room to move around. There were almost no surfaces to put anything. The hot water took forever to get warm. The room was freezing at night, but the included space heater helped. Seemed like a bit of a fire hazard, though. The staff were friendly enough and helpful with getting suitcases up and down the stairs, since there is no elevator.
- Carlos M (10/5): - Loved
- Emiliano (2/5): - Freezing cold room
Chip lining
Dirty carpet
And bugs..
U need more?
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fix water and clean better otherwise fine - Definitely they need to work on cleaning better and fix the water heater, but overall this was fine for the price. I felt safe enough as a solo female.
- SIMON (2/5): - carpet and room were extremley dirty we tried to cancel but they said 2 night minimum, we left after 1 night
- Beverle (10/5): - Nice place to be home base when you're out sightseeing and doing museums all day. Lots of restaurants, grocery and drug stores nearby. Subway station one block away. Very convenient for the budget traveler. The room was small, but very clean. We felt safe and could relax there.
- Jozefina (6/5): - Liked location, vibrant neighborhood and vicinity to public transport. Would have appreciated a kettle and better heating (I visited during a cold spell in February).
- Ali (10/5): - Very nice đ
- Brian (10/5): - Was great! Would stay again. Nice location for the price. If you need somewhere to stay itâs perfect. Itâs giving New York apartment.
- Max (8/5): - Great price and affordable for NYC, however the location was a bit difficult. No elevators in the venue, so those with heavy suitcases or mobility issues may find trouble climbing the stairs.
- david (8/5): - Bare bones accomodations. Clean, no bugs, great staff. Location is the best.
- Thomas (8/5): - Old, charming hotel. Bare bones comforts, it felt like a dormitory room. One space heater did not warm both room and bathroom. Bathroom fixtures were temperamental. We went for its location in East Village, easy access from subway and lots of walkable coffee shops and restaurants. Great price.
- Reina (2/5): - so dirty
- Jimmy (6/5): - The property is ok to travel for an adult. Must improve in cleaning.
- William (10/5): - Plan to stay there whenever in NYC.
- Diego (10/5): - I was disappointed to find out that this property is CASH ONLY, as it wasnât clearly mentioned anywhere when I made my reservation. Please make sure to highlight CASH ONLY in capital letters wherever possible. Additionally, inform guests that the property has no elevator and requires navigating many steps, even to access the first floor. This wasnât an issue for me personally, but it could be a concern for others.
I will definitely stay here again. This property provides excellent value for the price.
- Sheikh Muhammad (8/5): - The hotel room was very good for its price. Not enough space though but still quite good for a short stay. The hotel management accepts only cash which can be a hassle. They should start accepting credit/debit card payments. The room and bathroom was clean. Heater was there in the room. Will recommend this hotel to everyone who plans a short stay in NYC on a budget.
- Rayshane (6/5): Cincinnati to New York - Itâs was pretty cool. Room was just to small n I also book a two bed room n only got a one bed room ! Other then that i love how everything in walking distance.
- Jeremy (6/5): - First, the positives: Itâs a great location. Lots of restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops nearby. Some cool shops and a movie theater are all within walking distance too. There are also a couple of subway stops very close. It was also pretty quiet. I didnât hear any street noise at all, and it seemed the other guests were respectful. The front desk is also very helpful and friendly.
Now, the not so good: My room was tiny. I mean, barely enough room for me and the bed. There was a closet-ette I could hang a few things in, a small chair, and a phone, but thatâs it. The remote to the TV was missing a battery, but it wasnât even the same make so it might not have even worked. The pillows were inconsistent in shape and size with most being flat. The bed was comfortable enough though the mattress was pretty beat up and falling (?) out from under the bed. The bathroom was also tiny, and I had to close the door to even sit on the toilet. The shower (no tub) was filthy with mildew all over. This is not an exaggeration. Thereâs no fan or cover for the light fixture which actually came in handy when the bulb burnt out, and I changed it myself. The towels were rough and thin. The water took forever to get warm, then would randomly go from hot to lukewarm. Maybe due to others showering at the same time. The front door rubs on the carpet so badly you have to really pull it hard to close it.
Itâs a shame because it has a lot of charm, but is in need of major upkeep and renovations.
- Milad (8/5): - It was good overall. The location is pretty good and there is Pizza place below the hotel that is really nice.
- Giulietta (10/5): - Good price, good location, and clean.
- Brian (10/5): - For a hotel in Manhattan there was simply nothing else in this price range. If you book here, you should expect a full room, it's not a hostel. The room will be clean. There is no elevator in the building, so getting luggage up and down the stairs is a workout, but the staff are happy to help you out. The hotel only accepts payment in cash, so bring your money with you. The room was very small and cramped by non-nyc standards. There is a 24 hour pizza and bagel shop underneath the hotel that's super convenient. The downsides of being a walk up and the room being small are understandable considering it's so affordable and it's in NYC. As long as you are good with these I'd strongly recommend this establishment for an affordable NYC stay. Only a block and a half away from the 6 train.
- Alexander (6/5): - Good location, easy access to public transport. The area is not the best but it is central to most attactions. The hotel is old and I guess fornthe price it is just fair. The wifi was down for 2 days
