Guest Reviews
- cqfp123 (6/5): Ok for one night, very slow wifi - Stayed one night on a tour. Beautiful property, but unfortunately not a quiet location, with loud music until midnight.
Spacious room, albeit dimly lit. No minifridge or electric kettle Sufficient number of power jacks. A/C worked well. Comfortable bed and pillows.
The bathroom had separate cubicles for the toilet and the shower, which were lit, but the light bulb for the main bathroom was blown (hard to believe housekeeping didn't notice, because the bathroom was quite dark). By the time I reported it, they offered me another room, but I had already unpacked and didn't feel like moving. There was a desk but no chair (I had to take one from the patio).
Shower with hot water and good water pressure.
Very slow Wifi, nearly unusable in the evening (better in the morning).
Breakfast buffet with decent selection, but the pastries were soggy and stale. Bread, cheese and yogurt were good.
- born2travelit (8/5): nice place - We have spent 2 nights in this hotel during a fantastic journey in Senegal, the first and last night. I felt different feelings cos the first night was nothing special with a normal brekfast... the last night we were hosted in a better room and i have appreciated and enjoyed much more this huge residence not far form the beach and from the main attractions of saly. recommend
- Verified traveler (2/5): - When i got there, the receptionìst could find my reservation online and i have to send him via email my reservation for proof. The room was not king size, no phone or wifi. Poor service and the room was old.
- 443divak (6/5): Its a Good Resort - The rooms were Small, Bit Dirty. I stayed here for a Week in November month. Very greenish. We used the Swimming Pool from AmerVallies Hotel. I guess they have Tie-up with that Hotel. Foods are okay. Always French Fries will be there. Most of the Dishes are Repetitive.
- macha1904 (2/5): Avoid if you can - I highly do not recommend this hotel. Left it less than 4h after arrival, and this despite having no other place to go for the rest of the week.
I was there for work, so having no internet in my room was a big issue. I was first told they will try to find me another room. 4h later i was told by another desk officer that the wifi actually only works around the reception desk 😤 As I was checking out, a bunch a panicked clients stormed through reception and claimed their rooms had been sacked while they were at the beach (items & luggage stolen). Another couple had (apparently) been mugged inside their room by individuals hiding under the bed...😰!! I had them repeat their story because it sounded so crazy. Another person was there because of bed bugs !!!
Despite this chaos, the manager still made me pay the 7 euros of an overcooked fish + warm beer I was served while waiting for the hotel to "fix the unfixable". it's honestly one of the worst customer service I ever experienced to date.
I am also disapointed because I was excited to have "direct access" to the beach. but the website is misleading. it's actually 10 to 15 min walk to get to the beach. Not much to chose from the restaurant daily menu : 3 starters, 3 mains, 3 desserts. See photo.
While I only spend a few minutes in my room - I found it dark, tiny, outdated, massively in need of renovation. The vintage cube sized TV made it difficult to even get around the bed!
Avoid this place if you can.
Moved to Rhino Hotel. Its day and night.
- muazuu (6/5): Good location - A very good location. The design is rural but with modern facilities. Very greenish. What I did not like about the hotel was the lack of variety in food. Also the rooms with the inset upper floor is zig-zaggy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I would like more amenities in the room...........
- thedutchtango (2/5): Disastrous, filthy, unfriendly - The room was very dated, unhygienic, roach-infested and poorly maintained. toilets and showers did not function. Found rat poop in multiple rooms (we had 6 rooms in 12 days) Beach wasn't part of the hotel and was infested with aggressive salesmen, just like the rest of the city of Saly. The employees at the reception are unbelievably aggressive and unfriendly. Will not listen or cooperate. We even asked for the manager ; who finally showed up after hours of waiting and left within 3 minutes without giving a solution OR even a pardon.
The breakfast is good : Good for your dentist. The bread was days old and the orange juice was served from an old filthy bucket : That wasn't even done secretly but in plain sight of the guests!!
The so called 'buffet' made me and my wife dry-heave and sick after a couple of hours.
The beds are so horrible that we had to sleep on the pillows of the garden furniture..
Only the gardeners and the security-guards are good and friendly people.
Our advice : go someplace else. Don't even visit Senegal...
- PatientX (8/5): Beautiful beachfront hotel on the Saly beach - Some friends and I stayed at the 'Hotel Bougainvillea" on a stop through Dakar. The hotel sits beachfront on the Saly beach, along with many other hotels. Saly is a european vacation spot. Nearly every language in eastern europe was represented on the beach. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and the rooms are neat and tidy. They are air conditioned. The pool area is very nicely kept. Access to the beach is down a sandy path. The beachfront has other hotels and restaurants along it. Overall a good stay.
- ousdiop (2/5): Not an hotel at all! - Booked for 3 nights and di not stay even a couple hours. No one on site. No electricity, no water. Security is of great concern.
the beach is not existing at all.
I am still awaiting my refund as all amenities listed are either not existing or not usable.
As a general manager of a 4 star hotel myself in the US, I highly recommend Expedia to pull this place out of the list.
- Kally (8/5): smukt - Meget flot og hyggeligt hotel.
- katembu (6/5): Good Location - The hotel is peaceful, neat and friendly. Sometimes the rooms are dusty. It has clean swimming pool, large beach and very helpful staff. Good Lunch buffet and evening band.
Lot of flowers and scaring alligators/reptiles
- Patati31 (6/5): Nice hotel, relaxing vacation - Nice, convenient hotel, rooms are clean, garden is beautiful.
Stuff, especially at the bar, seems not to be very motivated. Same at the reception desk. Employees do not smile and give you the impression to be a burden. I didn’t feel welcome.
We became very sick from the food of the hotel and stayed in bed for two days with food poison. Our room was beside a power generator and during the night it was sometimes impossible to sleep. (Sounds like a landing helicopter).
Wifi is available at the reception.
People outside the hotel are very aggressive. To go to Dakar or to have a safari, I recommend a driver called Mamadou with a nice big car. He speaks French and is a perfect guide. His mobil no. [-]. He can also pick you up at the airport if you are not having an organized trip.
The beach is nice.
If you want to go to Saly, I would recommend this hotel. But I would not advise my friends to spend their vacation in Senegal.
- TrevisoEle (6/5): "Les Bouganvillees"...nature, flowers, birds & nice people - Allocated in the middle of Saly, this hotel offers to tourist his flowery garden with a lot of sorts of birds. Rooms are clean but basic such as the level of the breakfast, but the self-service dinner with the daily "good cooked" dishes is a good moment of your day. The beach is large and clean and beach-team is quiet and kind. I personally think it is ok for all kinds of tourists (for families with babies too) who are a bit open and flexible and with capacity to adapt the needs to the services. Good the relation between price&quality.
- nanoth (8/5): good choice - I spent 2 weeks at hotel Les Bougainvillées in May 2010!
It is a peaceful, neat and clean, friendly hotel. At the heart of the city of Saly,it has a nice garden with plenty of trees and flowers.Food is good and you will find an english-speaking staff at the reception!
- christinalF8092WQ (6/5): Quiet and flowery oasis in dusty Saly - Subject: Bougainvilee
Location: Saly
Title: Quiet and leafy oasis in dusty Saly.
ID#: 10945446
As a single female traveller looking for peace and quiet, this was quite all right, set in a large garden of endlessly flowering bougainvillea and a rich bird life.
The bungalows were basic but adequate, food ok (except the coffee at breakfast) and nobody bothered you. Which was not the case once outside the perimeter of the hotel grounds.
Friendly staff though none too efficient.
Being out of school holidays, the pool was free of cavorting youngsters, in fact, the only thing cavorting were the resident 'baby crocs' or rather large lizards, quite timid in spite of their size.
Hotel beach was rather squashed so better to scrounge a place at the Fram or Nouvelle Frontieres beach right next door.
Clientele at all hotels seem almost exclusively French and you are automatically assumed to be one and addressed in French though one can get by in English.
The daily fish market on the beach at Mbour is a treat! One can sit for hours and just watch the crowd & commerce. take care though not to photograph the women too closely, they have a temper and don't hesitet to show it.
