Guest Reviews
- T. Bottman (5/5): Friendly staff, cute hotel, but paper thin walls & floors made it hard to get the rest I came for - The hotel is stylishly, yet simply renovated and in a great, central location. Walls and floors are paper-thin. I could hear my neighbor's every word and the floor creaking with every step at odd hours of the night. This made it impossible to get a good-night's sleep.
- randall (10/5): - Everything I ask her for a good breakfast place and she recommend a great one Everything was exceptional
- Kelly (10/5): - I have been going to this hotel for over a
- Carl (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Paul (7/5): location works well - No breakfast small and no outside view
- Danger (10/5): - Really stylish old school hotel with super clean shared bathrooms and sleek, modern rooms. Restaurant downstairs is super quality as well. Great place to stay.
- Romero (9/5): -
- Christine (8/5): -
- Tatyana (4/5): - Good breakfast We got the dirtiest room ever.
It never happened to us like that before at the other hotels.
Very unpleasant, we were very disappointed,
too much stress.
- Robert (6/5): -
- Jodi (10/5): Fabulous place to stay ! - Location is so nice updated
- Sara (10/5): -
- Kirk (8/5): -
- Carolyn (6/5): - Clean room and shower. Small room but reasonable price.
- Bradshaw (10/5): - We loved our cute European style room! At first we werent sure what to expect with the shared bathrooms but everything was clean and private! We understand some people might not like how busy the street is but you get the best location for a trade off! We loved it!
- Chris (8/5): 2blocks from Fort George Brewery plus walkable to all fun things Astoria - Classic old styles mixed with modern hip touches Rather thin walls - so very moist , when noisy
- Scott (8/5): - Great! Rustic style room, very simple. It fit the waterfront vibe we were looking for. Needs a community ice machine at least though, hard to keep things cold, like leftovers. Splendid Restaraunt down stairs called "Stranded". As a Scandinavien american, I really appreciated the menu!
Thank you for a 4 out of 5 stay!
- Michael (10/5): - Clean room. So much to do in walking distance.
- Michele (8/5): - You have to share a bathroom with the entire floor. So if you're not into that I would not recommend. Also no parking onsite. Restaurant was awesome would highly recommend.
- Erin (6/5): - Parked on street, my car was loaded, it was fine. VERY loud street noise, I did not see that my room had no fridge, also NO conditioner in the bathroom, just shampoo, for once I had forgotten mine. Room was clean, floor carpet was not. Very basic but fine accomodation, more like a hostel. I chose the shared bathroom option, it was fine
- Corey (2/5): - very loud, barely slept
- Caitlin (8/5): - It is well located in downtown Astoria.
- Shane (10/5): - Great location in Astoria, parking can be a problem
- Travis (7/5): It was great. - Great Water pressure and temperature in Shower.
Great Cafe/Bar on 1st level. Public Restrooms and Showers and No Ac
- Vanhorn (7/5): -
- Erik (10/5): A cool spot, would stay again - Was a little leery of the old building and street-parking only, but it worked out just fine. Sure, things are old, but they’re perfectly functional! Street parking was a worry, but it opened up just fine a little after we checked in.
Cool spot for sure. Would stay again. Only complaint was it was a hot day, and there’s no aircon. Maybe that and noise through open windows, but it’s a city, what are you going to do?
Unfortunately we missed the opening times for the restaurant/bar/whatever downstairs because it was a holiday weekend.
TL;DR was nice, we may come back before too long.
- Couch (10/5): -
- McKenzie (6/5): What you need and clean. - Like many places in the coast, there was not AC. The ceiling fan worked decently. The window faced an inside roof alcove thing, so not much wind came our way. The shade was broken so we could not lift it up to let air in. Other than that it was described correctly. Although I can’t recall of it said a full bed of not (black was a full). It was clean and beds were comfortable, although on harder side. It was a decent place for the price for one night. You can hear everything from inside to outside.
It is an interesting place and decorated nicely for a very old building with small rooms.
- Kyle (6/5): - Cool historic building in the heart of downtown. We love Astoria and visit often but likely we wouldn't stay here again. It was fine, but that's about it. We had a shared floor bathroom and the women's toilet was broken.
- Marcus (1/5): - easy check in Very noisy room, not possible to sleep in, a fan or fridge is running on top of the room on the third floor that leads to noise and vibrations one can actually feel with th hand on the door and wall.
- Tyler (10/5): - Fun hotel, right in the center of Astoria. Great options to eat all in walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.
- Sophia (10/5): Amazing hotel!! - Check-in was simple and hotel was super quaint. Staff were very nice and competent. We had a lovely time!
- Reagan (7/5): Great location but opt for the 3rd floor to cut down on noise and squeaking floors. - We’ve stayed here a few times, this time was our first with a second floor room. The hotel is well decorated and is in a great location for exploring downtown. The adjoining restaurant is always a good spot. And the staff are always really nice. The second floor has to contend with third floor guests moving around and the creaking floors between them. The shower room is good sized and was clean but there appeared to my mold on the walls. The room could used additional ventilation.
- garrett (10/5): - Loved it
- Joni (2/5): Will never book there again - Location Short and small beds, LOUD, bed bugs, no WiFi
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- John (2/5): - Would never stay here again, no air conditioning
- Paul (6/5): Great location and charming in it’s own way. - Weirdly brief check in time - (3- 5pm) and slightly worse for wear compared to the last time I visited maybe 10 years ago when it was a newly outfitted Ace hotel knockoff, but overall fine for the price despite having old chocolates from some previous tenant left in the bedside drawers.
Nice little DVD / game collection in the lobby.
Great location and charming in it’s own way. Broder is a good restaurant in my experience but didn’t visit this time, so I have no idea if it’s up to standard anymore.
No front desk past check in, so It’s essentially an adult hostel I guess...
- Grace (6/5): - The hotel is in the perfect location for nearby shops, restaurants, and the boardwalk along the water. The parking is manageable and free as long as you time it correctly.
The rooms were mostly clean, the bathrooms could use an update as the sink was peeling and older. Perfectly good hotel for a short stay in the area with most of the time spent outside the room. The walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors as well as the very loud street noises at night.
We did appreciate that they had a great selection of DVDs and board games in the lobby. Nice place overall just be prepared for some inconveniences.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great place
- Evgeniia (8/5): - We liked the stay, the room was spacious, the only thing was the street was noisy, other than that everything was fine.
- Nathaniel (10/5): - The Commodore is a no frills, century old Astoria hotel that I assume was a historic fisherman’s dorm from the looks of it — the rooms are austere with only a sink
- Lisa (8/5): -
- John (2/5): - Terrible
- joseph (5/5): -
- Jerry (2/5): Crappy hotel - There were public restrooms and showers.. the bed was very uncomfortable.. no one at the desk.. I miss customer service the way when I was growing up!
- ETR (6/5): - Good location
- carmen (7/5): lovely day. you were close to downtown and riverealk - not use security was difficult to figure out
- Jonathan (8/5): - Convenient location
- Eric (10/5): - This is such a cute little gem of a hotel. We had a lovely stay. Late check-in was very smooth and the amenities were well thought out. The location was great for us to walk the town. Parking was easy and convenient. We’ll definitely be back!
- Victor (10/5): - The building has beautiful old charm. There's enough nostalgia left to appriciate the building, yet the rooms are updated and comfortable, integrating the old and the new. Our bed was very comfortable, helping us to get a great night sleep.
The shower was OMG amazing. The water pressure, combined with the large shower head was absolutely wonderful.
In all, this was a great stay, highly recommended, and we would stay there again.
- Vicky (6/5): - The small room has no options at all for heating water for tea or coffee.
- Michael (4/5): - Sadly, while I really want to be able to recommend the Commodore, I simply can't based on the noise factors. It's a cool hotel in a historic old building. But the window glass is paper thin, the window frames might be the originals, and the amount of noise from the street was insane. Yes, they offer ear plugs at the front desk, but that's not really the answer. With no AC and abundant cool night air, you want to leave the windows open. But you simply can't if you want to sleep past 5am when garbage trucks and construction vehicles stream by.
There was nothing else wrong with the place. Location is AMAZING. Staff was super friendly. Room was clean and cozy (we had a private bath room, and the shower was great!)
But it was Sofa King loud, if you know what I mean. Unbearable in the early hours of the morning.
It makes me sad to leave a bad review on that, but I would not stay there again, despite all the other positives. Nothing outweighed that loudness in the morning.
- Lisa (6/5): Not like it used to be - We have stayed here in the past and robes were provided so you didn’t have to get fully dressed to walk to the bathroom down the hall. They had foot towels to put down when you got out of the shower and they had Kleenex in the room. NOT any longer. This stay our room smelled of stinky feet when entering and the woman’s bathroom was not cleaned or was the garbage dumped the entire weekend of our stay. It was a disappointing stay compared to our visits in the past that went so well. Please bring back the robes, shower mats and Kleenex and cleaning staff then the visit would be worth the price we paid. Thank you.
- Jim (7/5): It was expensive for what was offered. (No staff available) - What breakfast? I ate at the Broder; it was excellent. No view but the side of a building. Wait for a shared bathroom.
- Allison (10/5): - Good overall. I liked the vibe, and the room was comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Lack of parking, noise between rooms, and having to use the door keypad in the evening were not great.
Still, would stay again.
- Matthew (8/5): Great Stay but Dusty - The hotel after-hours service was fast and responsive. Our only complaint was the cleanliness of the common area floors and stairwells which were very dusty. Someone actually wrote “clean me” in the dust on the stairwell.
- Matthew (8/5): Great location but room is basic - Location was great. Hotel felt safe and compared to some other venues the price was good Reception only staffed in the morning. Wifi didn't work at all in the room. Room was very humid
- Verified traveler (2/5): Meh. - I’ve never left a bad review but this place is not nearly as charming as the pictures show. Floors were dusty and it was very loud (although they do provide free ear plugs on the night stands). It was very expensive for what it was. However, it is located in a convenient part of the city close to breweries, waterfront, etc. which is nice.
- Kevin (10/5): - Nicely updated older property. I checked in after the staff had left for the day, so I didn't interact with any. Great Norwegian/Scandi restaurant downstairs. Would stay again.
- Martin (8/5): Interesting old school concept hotel- caveats! - It’s very cool to see an old school hotel kept that way! It has elegance and charm and is very free of dumb waste of the sort that modern life accepts as standard. Wood! Metal! Cloth. Thats all you deal with here, and all that are needed. No dumb plastic crap.
The arrangement of the shared shower was fine and the water pressure was AMAZING. All that said, would it have killed anyone to give us a bedtable reading lamp? There’s certainly enough stores to buy a used lamp in this town! That, and with all this efficiency, and shared bathrooms…shouldnt it be cheaper? It’s very cool, but at the end of the day, I paid 158 dollars to share a bathroom….(Summer 2025) So, yeah, I’m conflicted.
The attached restaurant is tasty but precious and annoying. They need to really make up their mind about whether its table service or counter service.
- Pangie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynne (1/5): Ineffective employee. Everything I⁷666_y 5545⁵⁵5 t - History. Everything about this experience with this hotel and the
Interactions with Brianda were confrontational and disrespectful. I was locked out. My code didn't work. Ever. I sent her 2 videos. Despite entering the correct codes, the door wouldn't open. Even with proof, she said I entered it incorrectly.
(I wasn't the only one. )
TV didn't work. She said it did. Despite sending her the video.
Then, the dog across the hall was barking at 1030 to 1100 pm. She informed me that they were dog friendly. Did this fact mean there is no quiet time? She argued about that as well.
If you have paid for a room, you should have the ability to enter the building without hassle. And waiting outside on the street while you wait for her to answer the phone or to manually unlock it...
Very upsetting. She could have handled that better.
- Skylar (10/5): - Despite some reviews complaining of noise, we had no problems and didn't even use the provided earlier plugs. The room was bigger than we expected, bed was comfy and we appreciated having a refrigerator and microwave oven.
- Andrew (4/5): - I've never had this happen before, but the property was not what we expected. It's basically a 19th century hotel property, in good condition, but fundamentally unchanged. Common bathroom, no air conditioning. This was not obvious from the Expedia entry, but admittedly, I was just looking at the pictures (which look great) and not reading the fine print and contemplating what "shared bathroom" actually means. We did not stay, opting instead to drive 90 minutes to a suburb of Portland.
- Kate (10/5): Quirky, comfortable and ideally positioned. - Quirky, comfortable and ideally positioned. Nothing remarkable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fun hotel in town - Great little hotel. Opted for the room with a private bathroom and it was really nice.
- Tory (10/5): Astoria classic - Awesome old hotel. Love the look and feel. Only (small) issue was it was a little warm in the room but it was worth it. Everything in walking distance. Would stay again. I did reserve a room with private bathroom.
- Bonnie (10/5): Love this small hotel - Love this hotel, the town and the great cafe downstairs. A great reminder to stay here often
- Trisha (8/5): - Low cost stay in the heart of Astoria.
Dog friendly.
- Hernandez (8/5): Good location - Style To share the bathroom
- Piyush (1/5): Bad - location cleanliness, lacknof basic facilities. bathroom and toilet not within, dirty and extremely small rooms
- Allen (6/5): Not for me. - On the third floor and I believe that the AC unit is directly above that room, and every time it would turn on it starteled me awake.
The bathroom and shower are shared and i wasn't aware of that until check in. Very uncomfortable process.
The shower room and bathroom were clean.
- Michael (10/5): Very comfortable! - I stayed here 1 night and was really impressed with the room. I had a great sleep . Bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious, clean and cool. Highly recommend this as a place to stay.
- Mackenzie (8/5): - Check in and check out were automated, we never saw a staff person the whole time we were there. Felt a bit creepy but ok. We had no problems that required staff assistance but other guests did and were grumpy about it.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (8/5): Beautiful classic building, like living in an apartment in SOHO. Walk to everything! - The bed was incredibly comfortable; I think I slept better those two nights than I had in weeks. There is a lot of street noise, sirens, loud people, etc., though they provide ear plugs and I had my little sound machine, so I was immune to the city noise. I had some pre-anxiety about having to share a bathroom, and I was definitely overthinking it; it was not a big deal at all and the facilities were very clean. The whole place feels intimate and welcoming as opposed to a commercial hotel with no personality. I loved it and would definitely recommend to anyone, especially solo travelers. The walls are thin and the wood floors are creaky, but I didn’t even know there were children across the hall until I saw them leaving. Will stay again when going to Astoria!
- Gonzalez (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb -
- Aaron (9/5): Superb - Great location and easily walkable to anywhere to visit in Astoria including quick walk to the trolley. Old world hotel was charming. The staff were very friendly and excited to see us. The bed could have been a queen instead of a double.
- Ankesh (8/5): - Our particular room was a smaller inner room with no real view. Bed was comfortable, but not as good as some better known chains. There is a fan but no AC and our room could have had a small end table for both sides of the bed but it only had a larger end table. Would have liked more hooks too and I think they could stand to put in a bigger tv. I think our TV was maybe 19 inches. Other would have been nicer. No ice machine, no phone, no WiFi but for a short stay it was fine. Separate shared shower and toilet were clean. Hotel has a lot of character for being 100 years old. Loved the lobby and free drip coffee in the restaurant . Also loved the free movie rental and games. Location is untouchable. Parking is street parking. We did have to move the car once but it was a minor inconvenience and expected for the location. Window poses a safety issue as it can open out all the way and no protection for little kids that could fall out and seriously hurt themselves. Would not recommend this hotel for small kids due to falling out window risk. Also not much to protect against sounds from other rooms or outside so hopefully you are not a light sleeper. I would come back here again though because staff was friendly and place is clean and great location and we don’t have small kids.
- Jenna (10/5): - The Gentleman that checked us in was friendly and helpful. Made us feel welcome
- Mark (4/5): - While we love Astoria and the people, the Commodore fell far below our expectations of a reasonably priced place to stay in town. The first night was a Saturday and the room next door was filled with young men yelling and slamming doors at 1 am. I asked them to quiet down and fortunately within about 20 minutes they did. The second night was better as there was quite a bit of vacancy in the building. The shower and bathrooms were good. The room was advertised as having earplugs and a sound machine but neither was in our room on check in and there was no front desk person. The items were given to us for the second night. The earplugs were very old and useless. The sound machine was great. People should know it is like a decent hostel rather than a hotel.
- Elizebeth (4/5): Not my best experience and I am easy goingJust wanted a comfortable bed and hot shower. - No staff was there, the grab and go area was not stocked, the ice machine was broken, the water dispenser was empty. There was some person who was punching the front door. And made a disturbance the whole night which ended in arrest.
My room wasn’t very clean, dirty rugs and floor.
The water in the shower was lukewarm. And every time I left there was random people in the common area who I don’t think where guest. A women was asleep on the couch for a long time.
- Katie (8/5): - Liked the location and style. Just wished it had a microwave, ice maker, and fridge. Otherwise really nice.
- Jenifer (8/5): - Front desk staff was great - communicated prior to arrival about after hours check in and parking options. He was very friendly upon arrival. It's obviously a pretty old building and certain details reflect that - window gaps/lack of screens, etc. Most things have been updated, but there are a few details that could use a little care. The self serve lobby fridge was nice, but the ice machine being down was a bummer.
Bed was comfy, linens were all super clean. The Keurig and electric kettle was a nice bonus. Having Broder connected was great. The addition of the lobby games and records was pretty cool.
Would definitely stay again. :)
- Scott (6/5): - Great location, friendly staff.. don't stay on the second floor. The walls and the floors are paper thin. We stayed two nights and didn't get much sleep either night.
Everyone can hear each other clear as day, the floor above you is going to be extremely loud and creaky, and no one seems to think twice about other people in the building with them.
Also, the building is poorly ventilated with no AC. Depending on how picky you are with the temperature of the room you stay in, it might be a no go for that aspect.
If you are on the 3rd floor, I imagine the experience is much, much better.
- Neal (6/5): - Nice but tired restoration of a classic hotel. Needs; hook, towel bars, new mattresses, pillows, and bedding.
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Location and front desk was professional and friendly
- Madeline (7/5): Good -
- Cassandra (7/5): Good - Shared bathrooms were exceptionally clean.. Was impressed with how well kept this 100 year-old hotel was. There is no sound-proofing with it being 100 years old.
- Winnie (8/5): - Great location.
Nice old town for a weekend getaway.
Feels safe.
- Carmen (6/5): It was okay. - It had an elevator. No microwave.
- Marlene (9/5): Superb -
- Heather (9/5): I always love staying at the Commodore with its clean rooms and artistic and historical vibe, right in downtown Astoria. - I love the old style and location of the Commodore. When I stay there, I am experiencing Astoria in its original form, and am right in the middle of where everything happens in town. There are beautiful shops and cafes all around, and though I was there for work, being at the Commodore made me feel like I was on vacation. There is something much more inspiring about staying in a small, local and historical hotel rather than one that is large corporate. The staff is also so accommodating and kind. I love everything about the Commodore, even the shared bathroom and shower, small room and thin walls. All of it seems to connect me to the place and the people, and experience what things were like in the past. I look forward to the next time I will stay there! N/A
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional - Clean very cozy and great location Could be a bigger tv
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rashelle (5/5): Hostel- not pet friendly or newborn/baby friendly. Tiny room with bed and sink, shared bathroom. Not a hotel. - This is a hostel type motel, we did not know this upon quick booking through the app. We were coming with a newborn and a dog and were put on the third floor, stairs only to a room with only a bed window and sink. Shared bathroom. Not at all kid or pet friendly. Does not state this on the quick view in booking.com app. Had to cancel as this was not feasible with a newborn, we were in the actual building less than 10 minutes and still got charged. Nobody at the front desk to talk to, had to text emergency number to let them know we couldn’t stay there, and we were still charged for stay. They texted a key code to the door, the lock box to get our own keys. Very much not your regular hotel experience as it looks on the apps. Completely disappointed. Be aware this is a shared space and probably only good for young people only looking to overnight in a bed, or someone who’s from out of town with plans to be out most of the time. Very disappointed with advertisement and lack of flexibility for charges.
- Sara (7/5): Good - Stayed Feb 14th thru 18th. Attended Festival of the Dark Arts, location was perfect. Bed was comfy, shower was hot with excellent pressure. Wasn't exactly like pictures, was sharing with friend who was going to sleep on the couch which we thought was going to look like in pictures. When arrived it was barely even a love seat, more like metal frame with cushions. We asked front desk if they had a cot or something equivalent, but were told they do not. Nice front desk assoc gave us extra blankets & pillows. The coffee maker was electric kettle with instant coffee, not ideal. The light/ fan fixture above bed would turn on at super random times during the night.
