- Andrew (7/5): The staff should smile more! - The breakfast was my favourite part. Lot's of variety to choose from and convenient serving time especially after a night out partying The staff that received us was very welcoming. Sent message a day prior to arrival that we would arrive between 1-2am & leave early on our departure day. The staff didn't have a room ready for us & said we had to pay for an extra night for them to let us check in early. Ended up paying so my wife could get some rest
- JUN (6/5): - The opening and closing sound is very loud.
- Kai (8/5): Very good -

- 815xc (2/5): Rude management, charged additional night with no reason - Extremely terrible experience with this Holiday Inn! I booked one night with the hotel for my parents through ihg.com. My uncle was at the front desk when I booked the reservation and confirmed the reservation, including the room type and my parent's name. However, when my parents arrived. The front desk refused to check my parents in. They asked my ID picture for checking-in. But after I sent over my ID picture, they refused again and said they could not see my parent's name in his system. I have the email confirmation including both my parent's and my name on it; and my uncle confirmed this with the front desk when I booked! Through the phone call, the front desk said they worried about whom they could charge for that stay. But I had already paid full amount at booking! They kept my parents at the front desk for about 3 hours and then charged additional cash for a separate reservation to check in my parents. My parents are over 70 years old and that stay was one stop of a long trip. They were extremely tired and stressful at the front desk and almost had heart attack.
After the stay I contacted the IHG customer relationship several times. They keep me waiting for the hotel's response. It's been about one month. I heard nothing back. From the IHG representative on the phone, the hotel's management does not reply to the IHG rep's inquire or even not answered the phone. I don't understand why such a big hotel brand can tolerate its member's such mis-management, ignorance to their customer and even their own's rep!
- cho hong (8/5): - Room temperature at 30C and and air conditioning only warm mode. Too hot for me, I need to used fan.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- CHIA-HSIANG (8/5): Overall is okay - Middle of nowhere in Shanghai. Clean room with reasonable price
- WENKAI (8/5): It’s worth for your pay. - The area is quiet, so if you are tired and need a silence place to rest, here is a good choice. But if you are a tourist, It will be not so convenient. The cleanliness is good(not easy to find a room without smoke smell in China, especially not very hight class hotel). The service here is good and friendly. Good for business stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Jan (6/5): - Very hard to find the food around the hotel and in the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, quiet at night. Food was excellent and very clean.
- Jeff_A_PDX (8/5): Nice place - The breakfast selection was better than most at this price point. There is a Starbucks, a few restaurants, and a ICBC bank with ATM about 15-20 minutes walk away.
I was there in the winter. My room was a little too warm for me. Opening the window for 15 minutes helped for about 4 hours. My colleague complained about his room being too cold.
The vending machines in the lobby seem like a good idea for a late night snack. I did not use them, but the presence was reassuring.
As is typical in many hotels in China, the internet connection speed was often very slow.
- Magdala79 (6/5): Average stay - Holiday Inn express is unlike Holiday Inn. It is more like a service apartment for families looking for longer, economical stay. Body Soap and shampoo are provided on the wall type dispenser. However, there is no toothbrush provided. There was a small stove and kitchen area in the room (without pots and pans). Basic coffee, tea and water are provided in the room too.
There is a dual-function door for the toilet. The toilet door closes inwards to become a shower area door. However, the design will cause the floor to be wet, regardless of how careful you are after you shower.
Hotel is clean and sheets are clean though. The customers here are mainly business men so we do not have to worry about dodgy customers visiting the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Petr (6/5): average hotel at a good price - Not bat, not good, location not interested, metro 1km by walk
- henry (8/5): Good to stay but one thing. - Overall hotel itself was reasonably good compare with rate, but distance from centre of city is too far and no shops around was bit inconvenience.
- varun_mukthi (8/5): An above average stay - Stayed for one night as we had a flight from Shanghai Pudong the next day. Location wise, even though it states it is in Pudong district, it is a good 30-40 minute drive away, so not the best. But we had a good stay at this property. Comfortable and quiet rooms, well equipped bathrooms and the breakfast the next day was sumptuous. Overall a very good stay, except the location. Would recommend it.
- Pui Wai (8/5):
- KIM (6/5): Budget Hotel - remote location - Holiday Inn Express is what it is - a budget hotel. Room rate is reasonable for Shanghai. Staff speak limited English, but the front desk did their best and was quite helpful indeed. I stayed two nights arriving very late and leaving really early so the 1/2 hour drive from/to the airport was the reason I picked this hotel. Would I stay there again? Yes, for a short visit if I need to be reasonably close to the airport.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just OK - It was a business trip. I had a last minute change and other hotels were more expensive so I booked this one, since I didn't have to stay long at the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Asked for an extra roll out bed which they have listed, but they didn't offer one.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent for the price - You could smell the smoke coming in from the other rooms even though the rooms that we stayed in were all non smoking. The front desk people were friendly but the breakfast staff weren't always very nice and would roll their eyes or be upset if we asked for anything.
- Yiu Pong (6/5):
- Dan (4/5): OK hotel in a bad location. - Rooms were clean and modern, and the bed, shower all good. But very noisy- truck depot across the street and noise all night even with window closed. Also, there is some automatic verbal announcement perhaps for sight impaired people in the cross walk, but it repeats every time the traffic light changes and can be heard in the room even though I was on a high floor. This was remarkably annoying. Location is not good- there is nothing nearby to eat, drink or see. The restaurant in the hotel closes pretty early, so eat before you arrive if coming in late. Also it is about $80 USD car fare from PVG airport, or $55 for a taxi..
- Paloma (8/5): Nice hotel, bad location - The hotel was nice for a short or business trip, rooms are big and clean and have just the essentials for a short stay. My mistake was underestimating how big Shanghai is, as all I wanted was a hotel near the airport which this is not, although it says it's in Pudong area. PUDONG IS HUGE. The hotel is not close to anything really, execept a metro station from where you can go places but it'll take you at least an hour to get to Shanghai downtown area and half an hour to the airport. other than location, my experience was good.
- Jace (6/5): Reasonable price but inconvenient location - The price is quite reasonable, and breakfast is also okay for me
- Ehud (8/5): Good hotel, far away location - Hotel is clean and the room is comfortable. Service is good! The area is far away from anything in the middle of industrial area.
- mui mui (10/5): - Convenience location, even not going out, hotel has a very good breakfast provide.
Restaurant open lunch and dinner for people.
- too far away (6/5): Bad for first visit - This hotel is a hour away from everything. Only stay here if you have business taking you to this obscure area of Shanghai.
- traveller (10/5): you'll get what you need - staffs are very attentive abd responsive.
1. loaned me a converter so that I could charge up my cell phone ( it was totally dead)
2. setup a wake-up call
3. arranged a taxi for me to take me to the correct airport
4. delivered an item I left in the room back to my next destination with same day delivery service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Everything was great! - The staff were great! Some of the did not speak english at all, but there was usually at least 1 staff member on hand that spoke enough english so they could understand you.
- ThomasTKLee (8/5): Quiet Neighbourhood, Nothing much around here - The location is deserted. Need to walk some distance for food and other amenities. However, that said, the hotel is nice and comfortable.
Room size is bigger than other Holiday Inn Express nearer down town.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not what I expected - A: this hotel is located in an industrial park that is very noisy at night.
B: the window in my room would not latch, allowing the external noise in.
C: not very near the airport as claimed
D: no shuttle bus as claimed
E: terrible breakfast
- DEEPU (2/5): RUBBISH EXPERIENCE - The room was located next to a factory and it was very noisy and I could barely sleep, I feel it was rubbish
- aircow33 (8/5): Good business hotel - Pretty far away from city center, but the hotel is quite nice and clean. I enjoy the chinese style breakfast. The rooms have free wifi but it is behind the chinese firewall. Rooms have cnn and hbo. However, the hotel has no gym or swimming pool.
- jelico8 (8/5): good stay while taking our son to school - We stayed here for a week this month to visit Shanghai and drop off our son for school. The hotel itself is very nice. Check in was pretty easy, though there were definitely some front desk employees that knew more English than others. When we got to our room for 3 the pullout bed/couch needed bedding, but the lady I spoke with didn't know the English words pillow or sheets or blanket so had to get someone else to help me, who gladly did.
The room was very clean and the heater worked well and was quiet. The bed was comfortable and while the pull out bed was less comfortable it wasn't bad.
The view was sort of boring, but this hotel isn't in the downtown city. However it was about .8 km to the subway and we walked there each day. The hotel did offer a shuttle once a day that stopped by the subway and a few other places but the timing never worked for us. Also sometimes, early in the morning, there were taxis available, otherwise you need to ask the front desk for a taxi to come to the hotel.
One annoying thing about the room was the wall dividing the bathroom from the sleeping area was made of glass bricks, so if you turned on the bathroom night in the middle of the night it shone into the rest of the room (and woke me up).
The free included breakfast was very good with a good variety of Western and Chinese dishes, like noodles, rice, steamed veggies, steamed buns, noodle soup, cereal, toast, salad, fresh fruit, fried eggs, boiled eggs, juices, coffee, and tea.
Our biggest issue was the lack of restaurants nearby. There was a small restaurant in the hotel where we did eat once and it wasn't bad, but we didn't want to eat there daily. The closest restaurant was almost 1 mile away which is far when it's cold outside.
There was a business center, free parking, a few vending machines with snacks. However there was no ATM which would have been convenient.
Check out was smooth except we think we left our credit card there and the hotel is hard to get a hold out of outside of a long distance phone call so we just reported it as lost to get a new one.
The wifi was free and solid, we never had any issues.
The shower was always hot and the water pressure was good.
For the price and the proximity to our son's school we would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Far Far from subway station & eateries .... - This hotel is clean, but far away from eateries, subway station. I have to walk 1 km to the nearest supermarket ....
- Zangwill (8/5): Newly renovated hotel, great breakfast - The hotel is located far from city centre, and subway stations. But it's a good location to stay if you would either stay overnight from PVG or visit Shanghai GM or other closed corporations. There is no convenient stores or decent restaurants within walking distance. There is a snack/beverage vending machine in the lobby and the hotel restaurant offers set menu for lunch and dinner (Chinese style).
I've seen many reviews complained about the breakfast, both from westerners and Chinese people. Although the breakfast is not friendly for western people, I was actually shocked by the choices offered. They are definitely many more than other budget Chinese hotels, and most US HIX hotels. There are a few types of breads, salads, fruits, sausages, fried eggs, as well as coffee and yogurt. And there are more Chinese foods to appeal local customers. E.g. Noodles, hot milk, fried vegetable, Shanghai wonton.
The front desk staff were friendly but inexperienced. The check-in process was not very smooth and it went a couple of rounds to confirm my room types. The waiter from the restaurant didn't know how to bill to my room and I had to pay directly. The room, and amenities is better than average HIX hotels. The air-conditioning is modern and with low noise and I got a nice sleep quality.
I will definitely come back and stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was great!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel located in middle of industrial area. - Staff have limited English language skills. Hotel is located some distance from Metro, whilst they advertise a daily shuttle bus each time I inquired was told not running today. Taxi not interested in driving to Metro resulting in walking each way Metro in marginal weather. Whilst alcohol available with meals there is no bar.
- Nigel (6/5): Clean and tidy hotel but not well situated - This hotel is located in an industrial area of Shanghai. Next to very large logistics operations, meaning that trucks are coming and going continually. Many emit a continuous sound, a bit like a quacking duck. It can be a bit annoying at night.
The Metro system is not too far, but there is a significant walk to it, maybe half a kilometer. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel there is nothing at all by way of shops, restaurants etc. I found some shops only by getting off at an earlier Metro stop and walking around.
One of the taxis outside simply refused to take us to our destination in town, and another negotiated a flat rate, rather than use the meter. Given the distance from metro and lack of alternatives, you are at their mercy if you are trying to carry a lot of stuff.
One night we got back in time for dinner, to find there was a wedding on somewhere else and the restaurant was not open. This was not previously indicated on the signboard outside the restaurant. In the end, the staff sent out for takeaway food for us.
The staff were mostly helpful, but their English is not too good. There are no tourist maps in English, and obtaining the simplest directions can be a challenge. One of the staff gave us the wrong directions to the metro, and this resulted in a very long walk around a very big block.
Basically, it's a clean and tidy hotel if you have business in that end of town. If you plan to sightsee in the City, take a hotel in the city.
- PedroRamdas (8/5): Nice hotel but a bit away - I selected this hotel from the list recommended by Mega Expo solutions based on the price and I am not disappointed
Fairly new and good quality rooms at relatively cheap prices
Only disadvantage is the location which is a bit away from where the action is
But I'm happy and strongly recommend this property
.....I must add that I lost my iPhone charger and the hotel promptly helped me with one to use....that's a winner !
- Timothy L. (10/5): Good Personal Trip - The hotel met my expectations. Although it was located in the industrial district in Pudong Area, it is very close to Pudong International Airport, which made my layover trip in Shanghai a convenient experience.
- rkrossi (10/5): Realy new hotel with poor western breakfast - The hotel is new, clean with amazing staff but really poor western breakfast. By the way, it's far from subway (you can walk to it but it's something a wide walk to there). By subway it's took almost 1 hour to shanghai center...
- JIT CHUN (10/5): Friendly staff in this hotel. - I stay at this hotel many times, the staff are friendly, helpful and patience. Most important smiling face. Feeling like coming back to home.
- thepatriots99 (4/5): Good hotel but far away from everywhere - Good price, got free breakfast, free wifi, the room was spacious, clean.
15 mnts walks to nearest Metro, the air con was not too cool even you set it to maximum.
The location was not strategic, far away from everywhere. In front of a big factory, the noise of the trucks 24hours nonstop.
- Alven (2/5): Strongly not recommend - Location: Industrial area, hardly could find any shop and restaurant near by. Nothing like the hotel description.
Transportation: Even taxi driver couldn't find the way, can't go anywhere without taxi. It takes over 45mins gets to the exhibition centre. Again nothing like the hotel description.
Hotel service: None. No food, no lunch, no dinner. Its central AC, room hot like a oven.
I even have to check out a day earlier because I can't take this anymore. I spend more than what I used to for taxi expense by staying at this hotel. This is surely my last stay at this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): great place to stay - hi I had a great time the manager kevin was excellent with customer service and the staff english was ok and manageable
- Kengkla (8/5): Apart from location, this is the best HIEs in China - Stay 1 night for business
I gave a try to this HIE as I need cheap but reliable place for few hours sleep before early flight from Pudong Airport. It is located in the middle of nowhere, may be industrial estate. Taxi got lost and the street name is similar to others. I have to call go hotel for explaination to driver.
This place is very new and clean. The room quality is the same as Holiday Inn, but the amenities are still the Express.
Breakfast is ok, Wifi is fast.
- ashtono (8/5): comfortable room - The room and bathroom are comfortable. The hotel is situated in a quiet area. Friendly and helpful staff. Effective check in and check out. Good value for money. Breakfast was not so nice, local food only - the hotel does not really cater for Westerners in terms of food.
- sam (8/5): Nice hotel in quiet area - The hotel is located far from the city, no major attractions nearby.
- David (6/5): Shanghai trip - The staff was friendly and could speak English. This hotel is about 2 hours by subway from the Pudong Airport and 1.5 hours to downtown near the bund.
The hotel was quite new so occupancy were low. Breakfast wasn't very good due to limited selection. There is no restaurant/bar in and around the hotel so if you're hungry then you'll need to take the subway a few stops toward downtown. Drinks in the vending machine is really overpriced.
- Frankin2 (8/5): Great money value - The subway is not so far, so is great for tourism or just waiting a flight. Very clean rooms, good breakfast and the staff is friendly. Also English spoken, at least enough. Rooms are big too. Rooms are big too.
