Guest Reviews
- Stuart (8/5): Nice place to stay and eat if adventuring onto Pendle hill. - The two girls on arrival Georgia and Isabel were super friendly and helpful and continued with the great service throughout Dinner service, all staff were very friendly and helpful a real credit to the establishment . Ideal location for walking up Pendle hill. Didn’t find anything we weren’t happy with.
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Garry (9/5): - Really nice place, good breakfast included, nice "busy village pub" atmosphere ice room and good for dog. Not a big issue but if you book a standard double room and get room 3 it is above the kitchen area so is warm and next door to the kitchen extractor plant room which is very noisy until food service ends (9:00 pm when we stayed) after that some noise from the bar below but nothing intrusive. That said, if you are down in the bar or out walking that isn't a problem!. Also, the car park has been overtaken by benches and tables in part so parking is available but, whilst we managed to get a space don't be disappointed if there isn't room....you can park in the village (with some restricted areas) although it might be tight immediately around the hotel...
- Jackie (10/5): -
- Tanya (10/5): - Great staff, flexible and helpful
- Byron (10/5): - Great little pub, food was delicious. Breakfast is also really good.
- Tucker (9/5): - Clean and comfortable room. Nice shower. Delicious food. Lovely village location Our room was a bit small for a double
- Debi (9/5): Very good - Stayed here before, Very nice. Will come back again Very difficult to find a parking space at times
- Alfred (8/5): -
- Marcin (7/5): Perfect location for a short stay. - Breakfast was brilliant. Room was cosy and warm.
- Stephanie (9/5): Lovely place. Lovely room. - It is right at the foot of Pendle Hill and in what looks like a historic building itself.
The room was very comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly. I'd definitely stay again. Very little could be improved. You can hear the music and chatter from the pub downstairs, but it is an old building, and you're only one level up. Generally, it's very quiet and respectful, and they turn the music off early. Just a couple of litter items found in a corner near the bin in the room, but they could have been easily missed rather than being a sign of negligence.
- Claire (9/5): - Lovely room. Delicious breakfast. Great staff. Lovely walks nearby. Excellent place to stay! Nothing!

- Laroche (10/5): Would return anytime for a quiet weekend away for walking and good food. - This pub is located in a quaint village with a stream running under our window. Birdsongs were amazing and looking at the hills and sheep while eating was very peaceful. And the food was of high quality, delicious and very well presented. Nothing.
- Clementine (10/5): -
- Helen (9/5): Lovely Barley Mow - staff were lovely and very helpful. The location is lovely. Food excellent. Really good value for money. Will go again. A bit worried would get a parking fine as parking is very limited.
- Jenny (6/5): Lovely setting and good meal - Staff were very friendly. Our evening meal was good Too little choice for breakfast cereal. No fruit or muesli and no brown bread Music too loud but was turned down when requested
- andrew (10/5): - Beautiful location, nice bar area and superb breakfast.
- Kate (10/5): Lovely stay and amazing food - Lovely property, cosy Cosy rustic vibes

- Helen (9/5): Lovely, Lovely, Lovely - Barley Mow is a lovely pub, with lovely rooms and really lovely staff. Although the rooms are directly above the bar, you can't hear anything once you are tucked up!
The staff were all really lovely - we had a small issue with our first room and were moved, quickly and smoothly into another room. No problem at all. The bedroom was a little chilly, but we were offered heaters or blankets.
The breakfast, while lovely, was a little smaller than we had been expecting!

- karen (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay , slept with window open listening to the river Was disappointed we couldn't have breakfast as this was not available until after 8 , with this booked for work this was too late to stay and we had already paid for this.
- Sarah1906 (7/5): -
- Jayne (5/5): We have stayed here previously and it was so much better. Unfortunately we won’t be coming back. - Somebody’s left over shower gel left in bathroom, grout was grubby and could do with replacing.
Some parts of the main bedroom (walls) had marks on them. Could do with a fresh lick of paint. Cobwebs on large wooden light fitting. Main meal in the evening wasn’t the best, cold baked beans at breakfast wasn’t ideal.
- Ellison (7/5): -
- Ramshaw (4/5): Overrated, stay at the glamping pods instead. - The bed was comfortable and the room was generally clean, had a kettle with teas etc. The bathroom seemed newly renovated. The pub/restaurant was hit and miss but probably the better one in the area. The breakfast was enjoyable especially after a walk up the hill to see the sunrise. There were some damp stains on the wall in my room and the carpet was a bit grubby. The pub was only open until about 8 before they start clearing up and turning the music off which was frustrating as there wasn't much else to do in the area in the evening. The first night the food was nice, but the second night I ordered a festive turkey sandwich which was about as festive as a kick in the teeth (gray meat and cranberry sauce on hard bread), so I complained to the waiter and didn't get as much as an apology. I asked for a coffee after my meal and the waitress said the coffee machine had been cleaned, and for the next half hour stood around doing nothing anyway. Staff were not very attentive in the evening.

- Penelope (9/5): Wonderful warm welcome and great eveing meal. - We arrived in rain (which continued for our one day stay) and were delighted to find woodburning fires in the main areas. This meant we could curl up with our books and relax. (We did venture out for a soggy stroll and the area is lovely, but bleak in the rain.) Nothing, staff were very helpful, food was good..... It is an old building which is its charm and why we chose it, but does mean that eg the floors are uneven. Not a criticism at all, but to be considered. We'll be going back!
- Paul (10/5): a warm and wonderful pub with rooms in the heart of a stunning and historic location. - great historic old pub; incredible location. great service from the staff team there.... clean, warm rooms. incredible value for money... nothing
- null (8/5): food and beer good, room comfortable and will stay again - N/A didn't eat could hear the bar music in the room
- Claire (8/5): Cosy, Eerie and Tasty - Cosy vibe with real fires, low ceilings and Kingston Press cider on tap! The shower and bath were lovely. Food was high quality and well presented, fabulous breakfast. Bed comfortable and area very quiet at night. It’s also right next to Pendle Hill walking routines. Sadly, we couldn’t partake in them due to injury, but we made the most of the cosy accommodation instead. Of course the fact the area is associated with ‘witches’ does not mean that there is/was any real magic associated with the area … certainly persecution … however, the area felt thick with atmosphere in a ‘haunted’ way and we couldn’t help but wonder if the long nails embedded into the wooden beams in room 2 had been placed deliberately to ward off evil spirits? Nothing.

- David (8/5): Great! Highly reccomend the Barley Mow - Very relaxing stay, service-minded personnel. Lovely friendly relaxed atmosphere, dog friendly, lots of locals drop in to say hello. Fantastic location if you're visiting to walk around the forest of Bowland. Highly recommended the Barley Mow,make it your base if your visiting the area. Breakfast was ok,typical for the area, would have liked the option of whole fresh fruit, granola and perhaps kefir style yoghurts. overnight oats maybe! Better and more flavourful vegetarian options needed on the menu.
- Damien (4/5): 5 star pricing for a 2 star product. - The staff as a main were welcoming and attentive, particularly in the restaurant. Very poor value for money, cheap furnishings poorly kept room, noisy boiler room next to room 3. £165 for the night is very expensive and photos not representative of reality. Step in the room unsafe and no clear visual and illuminated markings. Overall very disappointed.
- Ian (10/5): Excellent - Everything Nothing
- PATRICIA (9/5): -
- Dan (10/5): Great village gem! - Food was amazing, staff were friendly and knowledgeable, room was clean and cozy, shower and bath were great N/a
- Ian (10/5): Excellent - Everything Nothing
- Jane (10/5): -
- Andy (5/5): -
- Harwood (8/5): -
- Louise George (6/5): - The room was a good size and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was also nice. The location was good. We didn’t manage to get a drink at the bar once in the 3 nights we stayed as it all seemed to close up around 9pm every night. We had been looking forward to coming back to the bar after our days of visiting relatives and relaxing with a drink.
Also parking space was very tight.
- Heaton (8/5): - Atmosphere, food and staff. Nothing.
- amanda (9/5): Cosy, Romantic, Beautiful and a shear Delight. - Breakfast was of a very high standard.
Pub was cosy.
Rooms beautiful and clean.
staff very friendly and helpful.
Was a wonderful Christmas eve. Nothing, I would stay again in a heartbeat.
- jacqueline (10/5): -
- Karen (9/5): A lovely, relaxing play to stay with great walks on the doorstep - It has a very cosy feel about it with the stone walls, beams and fires.
The food was excellent (Evening meal and breakfast) and the room was modern and comfy
- Carolyn (8/5): OK - I love the area very much and it's a lovely cosy pub for eating. Breakfast was lovely and we managed to park right outside the door. My room was chilly and the staff didn't ask us if we wanted dessert. Eventually we got their attention and asked for the dessert menu only to be told that they had stopped serving and there was no chance of dessert.

- Abbott (10/5): - Everything really nice location food was amazing. Carpark was a bit tight Carpark situation was not ideal for overnight guests
- Julie (10/5): -
- Annika (8/5): Fint ophold for området. - Lokalt
- harry (10/5): A lovely place to stay - Very friendly staff abs comfortable It was all fabulous
- Mark (8/5): Cosy, comfortable and excellent meals. - Evening dinner was great - food was superb. Breakfast good too. Cosy pub with decent rooms. Just felt the bathrooms were a little dated/ shower over the bath not so good.
- Jessica (8/5): - Excellent location for walking up pendle hill. Lovely comfy bed
- Judith (9/5): -
- Linz (6/5): - The location to everything was perfect, the bed amazing, the room was really nice. Breakfast spot on. Staff was really nice You could hear lots of noise at night, I assume toilet systems and at one point we even heard the nextdoors phone vibrating on their sideboard. But obviously I wouldn't expect deadly silence in a hotel but hearing the neighbours fighting to get in their door at 1am and other noise that woke us on multiple occasions during the night.
- Kasia (8/5): Nice place all in all:) - Generally I did like the place!:) The pub was very cosy, there was a parking space to leave the car, room was spacious, overlooking the little river - loved the sound of it behind the window!:) Breakfast was nice too, and served from 8-10:30, nice to have that wide time range avaiable. Would be nice to have some soap at the washbasin - it's a bit troublesome to take the soap from the shower gel dispenser over the bath tube every time you wanna wash your hands...
And there was no soap whatsoever... bit unusual...
Also I'd put a table lamp at the table, would be useful to have one there.
- Susan (8/5): Lovely but needs some attention to detail to maintain customer satisfaction - Great location and atmosphere Some areas could be cleaner. Shower, toilets and floors
- Pamela (8/5): - Breakfast was fine
Good location TV in R6 not working - could only switch on at main (not remote) & receive only one channel.
Informed duty manager on tuesday evening but no action taken
- Mark (9/5): - Room was.very comfortable and clean, the staff are amazing and can't do enough for you. Food was incredible Parking is very hit and miss unfortunately.
- Barry (7/5): Lovely country pub / b&b. Great food - Nice bar /eating areas. Food was excellent Walls a little thin. Can hear tv from adjacent rooms.
Could do with new bedding as duvet cover had multiple holes.
- David (8/5): Good value for money - Friendly staff Very little parking in an area where it is residential only
- Linda (9/5): Lovely relaxing comfortable stay - Lovely feel. Great setting. Very clean and well kept. The shower screen in the bathroom wasn’t fit for purpose.
- Demi (6/5): Quite nice - Good location, friendly staff. Limited parking with none reserved for guests, my husband had to wait almost 30 mins for a space as visitors are not permitted to park on the road (reserved for locals) and there were no overnight parking options available. For the price of the hotel this is quite bad. I also noted that my husband paid £20 more for his room which was a little less nice and he stayed solo, there was no reduction even to reflect that there was only one breakfast required instead of two.
- Stuart (9/5): -
- Kenry Tattersall (5/5): Wasn't for me. - The room was esthetically pleasing.
The location was scenic.
The breakfast area was cosy. The room was quite dusty and had cob webs.
The staff weren't very welcoming or friendly.
The breakfast sausage were undercooked and the bacon overcooked (but this is down to personal preference). I would usually expect two sausages on a full English breakfast.
- Becky (10/5): -
- Susie (10/5): -
- Simon (10/5): - Great value for money last minute stay, half board option taken
- Liam (10/5): Cannot wait to return - Gorgeous, very high standard
- Keith (6/5): - Stay was ok in general but was very confused about the gluten free situation as quite a few options on the menu but was told you might not be able to eat as we don’t know about the fryer not a lot of help when you are coeliac.
Ate somewhere else which was not what was intended, and there was a problem with breakfast which showed a lack of gluten free knowledge so for this reason probably would not return.
- Anne-Marie (10/5): Barley Mow - Nice place. Nice location for our needs.
Food was lovely.
Staff were really helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed our stay. Car park was a little tight, especially if someone parked off mark but we found a space every night.
- Suzanne (9/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Location, friendly helpful staff, cosy atmosphere. Cost, we booked in advance through Booking. com and paid nearly double what we could have got if we had booked directly with the venue.
- Chris (10/5): - Fantastic room, really powerful shower and nice deep bath. Couldn't ask for more.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious Nothing would always stay here going forward
- Jane (10/5): -
- Rachel (8/5): -
- John (9/5): - Friendly, good food, nice rooms Nothing
- Hannah (9/5): -
- Vikki (9/5): Lovely place to stay - one of the best we've stayed at of this kind. - Very cosy accommodation - great location and restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. room was a bit warm - even with the window open.
- andrew (8/5): - Location Slightly noisy evening in room 6..room 2 a lot quieter last time
- Paul (10/5): Excellent overnight stay, I would have liked to stay longer. - Superb pub accommodation comfortable beds and a brilliant shower, great breakfast and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. Nothing
- Wright (10/5): Definitely worth staying here. - Great location for working in Burnley. Countryside all around. Rooms decent size, nicely decorated and clean. Food was made with quality ingredients meaning dinner and breakfast was lovely. Staff all friendly and chatty making the finishing touch to a great place to stay. Will definitely return. A real friendly village. was even able to park our van overnight in the pub opposite. (pool table and darts) 👍 Location, peaceful
- Melissa (10/5): Very welcoming the staff were all amazing. - The area of the hotel and waking up to the sound of the countryside.
- Teena (7/5): -
- Cheryl (9/5): -
- SUZANNE (8/5): -
- Martin (10/5): -
- Ian (8/5): Nearly great - It's a great location, and we enjoyed the food and drink. The flies! It's due to the time of year and the rural location but inside the bar and in the restaurant there were half a dozen flies crawling and buzzing around. It wasn't nice.
- René (8/5): Sehr gut und charmant! - Charmantes, kleines Zimmer. Gutes Restaurant, Atmosphäre wie in einer Skihütte
- Orla (6/5): Disappointedly average - Hotel was ok but food was very overpriced and bland. Pretty much no vegetables on the menu and want even asked how I wanted my steak cooked. Will not return.
