Guest Reviews
- Christine (6/5): - The room was surprisingly large and clean. It was a bank holiday so the pub was extremely busy and very loud. Once the pub closes it was quiet
- Stewart (2/5): - Power off when I arrived. No pub or restaurant available, there but closed. Patio door did not lock, could not get assistance. No one available for checkout, left key in room. Hotel should be struck from Expedia choices. Ate at Tredegar Arms, very nice.
- John (2/5): UNBELIEVABLY loud - Unbelievably - UNBELIEVABLY - loud music. We booked a 3 bed-room as we were travelling with our young son, and the room we were given was DIRECTLY above the venue, which is effectively a nightclub, on a Saturday night at least. None of us are easily bothered by noise, but the music from the venue started loudly, then got louder, and, incredibly, louder still once the live band started. The volume was so loud, and the bass so strong, that items began falling off our bedside tables, and to make it worse, the fire alarm - with lights - went off 4 times throughout the night, either as a result of people at the venue downstairs setting it off, or simply as a result of the incredible volume. The music ended at around midnight, which of course is far too late when you have children trying to sleep.
What I found most insulting was that our booking clearly reflected the fact that we were travelling with a child, and yet we were given the room presumably directly above the dancefloor of the venue without a word or a thought about any potential noise that we would experience. How anyone would think that putting a hotel room above a venue like this is a good idea is beyond belief. Cambrian Inn, why don't I send you the video I filmed in the room showing the volume of the music - or you could stay in the room yourself on a Saturday night and see what you think?
- beverley (10/5): - Just returned from a 2 night stay spacious room for 3 of us. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was above the bar which had music on 2nd night there which went off at 11 so did not affect our stay. Didn't book breakfast there was a wetherspoons 2 minutes walk away. Would stay there again.
- Tony (8/5): - Nice place to stay
- Ollie (2/5): - I payed you Expedia to stay at this hotel and they dident even have a room for me I’m have had no reply form Expedia and would like a refund as sone as possible
- Jill (8/5): Comfortable bed and pubs and restaurants nearby. - The Cambrian Inn was staffed on a seemingly part time basis, so after picking up our keys, we were advised there were no on site but were given a contact number to ring should we need anything. We had a lunch and breakfast in a nearby Witherspoon pub and a lovely breakfast and very good dinner in the Tredegar Arms pub a short walk down the hill. We adjusted to the hourly chimes of the chiming clock adjacent to the Cambrian. The rooms were comfortable and essential items were provided in the bathroom. My room had a decent shower an an enormous bed and a sofa bed which was half assembled as a bed but the mechanism was too stiff for me to return it to a functioning sofa. Free jet side parking was available.
- Ian (8/5): Recommended - Room was fine. Very spacious (although it was the king suite/triple room) Bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly.
- Sharon (8/5): As expected a lively pub atmosphere. - If peace & quiet is what you're after then the Cambrian is not for you. If on the other hand you're looking for a lively time with sports on screen, music & karaoke just downstairs & inexpensive drinks then it definately is.
Sadly there is no food served here but we found plenty of places around to eat every meal from a full breakfast & afternoon tea to fish & chips on Friday & a Sunday roast.
There is a sunny little terrace outside the room but unfortunately it's not a private one being shared with not only the room next door but also with customers drinking in the bar, it was quite a shock to come back to the room Saturday night & find several people sitting literally directly outside what is essentially your bedroom window.
The beds had seen better days & squeaked loudly with each movement I personally found mine to be a little uncomfortable. At some point there had been a leak in the room I stayed in the water mark from which was still visible in the carpet.
The staff here are all lovely, the rooms are spacious, equipped with lots of storage as well as tea & coffee making facilities, the bathroom is large & clean with soft towels & toiletries provided infact the whole stay was extremely reasonably priced & overall I enjoyed my time here.
- Masja (6/5): - If you like Karaoke and load music this is your place. The room we had was right above the sound system. Check in was done via the bar and check out????? Pub is closed on a monday so we left the key in the door. The room itself was great and spacious. Parking we got lucky both nights being in front of the hotel.
- Simon (8/5): COMFORTABLE ROOM FOR THE NIGHT - Not a bad place but the welcoming wasn't great when we first arrived. the place was locked up. After a couple of calls a lovely young lady gave us access and explained that the property was changing hands that day and the new owners were holding off opening until tomorrow, but that our booking would be honoured. We did miss out on our included breakfast!. other than that the room was comfortable, be careful if your going by car, there's no specific allocated car parking, its out on the street. because the pub was closed we went searching for some food, suggest you avoid the local Weatherspoons. the meal wasnt great! ither than that its difficult to comment because the place was shut
- B (4/5): Nothing like pictures, think twice about staying. - Building locked up upon arrival which was after the stated checkin time. Hand written note on door asking to call a mobile number for checkin. Multiple calls and sometime after, someone answered and came to unlock the place. Carpet dirty, beds need replacing as had squeaks with every movement. Pub was shut throughout the evening and next day. No breakfast available as stated in hotel description as pub remained closed. No checkout service, just told to leave keys so no one to complain/speak to throughout the stay. Difficult to park locally.
- William (4/5): Poor location, poor customer service. - Delayed check-in. The room didn't get made up despite requesting it by way of a door card hanger. When asking why it hadn't been done. We we're given to excuses within 2 minutes neither of which were believable.
Poor sleep due to noise from the premises below and general noise in the area unti gone midnight on all nights
- Jamie (10/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, property is situated in a quiet village.
- Patricia (2/5): - Arrived at properly and couldnt get in ,had to find other accomodation nearby. Owner said someone WAS there the following day to greet us but clearly they were not, answerphone not taking messages and when i tried 2 times followingthe phone just kept ringing, Had to contact expedia about the situation.local people told us that other visitors had the same happen to them . Avoid this hotel.
- Manish (6/5): Wouldn't recommend unless no other option - Rooms are just above the pub and would recommend against booking one for a Saturday night. It was very loud till 11pm.
Bed was comfortable but the flush didn't work. There is no parking available.
- Ken (6/5): - Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable. But no food is available, only offered at the sister hotel down the road. So very misleading.
- Melanie (6/5): - Wasn’t what I expected. Was woken up by the clock tower chiming on the hour. The third bed was a sofa bed and not a separate single bed as described. The bar and restaurant was closed, that was okay as we didn’t have far to go to find another pub for food. But didn’t have time to go somewhere for breakfast in the morning. We didn’t have enough towels in the room.
- Danielle (10/5): - I loved the room it was really big the staff are freandly I will recommend this lovely place to fri3nds and family.
- Alasdair (10/5): Warm and Welcoming Inn, highly recommend. - Overall a decent little place. The room was tidy, cozy and warm and the Bathroom is pretty good with a modern design and is rather spacious. Having the pub downstairs is great as well, and breakfast is quality. Been to this place twice now and both times I’ve been very Happy with my stay. Staff are friendly and welcoming and just generally a nice place to stay. Also relatively inexpensive for a nights stay.
Only con is on a Friday night they have karaoke so you can hear some interesting renditions of classic songs but aside from that it’s class.
- Leeann (10/5): - Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely room, with view over looking local monument
- Kelvin (4/5): - There was live entertainment in the public bar on the night of our stay. Greater sound proofing is required. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. The quilt cover and pillow covers were clean but the duvet needed cleaning (very smelly). There was no food available contrary to the hotels.com description. We were told food was available from a sister hotel, we tried booking a table for two but was told they were fully booked. Not satisfactory
- Billy (8/5): - Friendly staff.
- Carol (8/5): Very clean but needs new mattress - The rooms are large and have everything you need. the hotel uses good quality linen and the room was very clean. The only criticism I have is that the mattress was completely tired and gave no comfort or support. I would also recommend at least 2 pillows per guest. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and I felt right at home in the pub, which was very busy when we arrived.
- Simon (10/5): - Very friendly and comfy.
Very lively pub at weekends
- Hans (10/5): - Lovely room, warm welcome, perfect for relaxing during my work trip
- Ryan (6/5): The Cambrian - Room was spacious and cozy. Was above the pub so music playing but not too late. Staff was very friendly and football and cider downstairs was inviting.
- Nigel (4/5): Cambrian hotel - We arrived on the afternoon and checked in. Was told there would be entertainment in the evening, which we expected as it was a pub. Booked and paid for breakfast.
That evening we returned to our room to find TV in room did not work. At approx 2230 a loud disturbance occurred in the corridor outside our room with police officers in attendance. In the morning we went down to enjoy our breakfast to be greeted by another couple and a member of staff who informed us she did not know anything about preparing for breakfast. Also the staff member had it appeared to have wiped every surface with bleach and the odour was pungent.
We asked for the manager to be called and when she arrived apologised for the issues and refunded the cost of the breakfast and 50% of the room costs. I will not stay there again and can’t give any positives
- Steven (6/5): - TV didn’t work. Extremely busy pub. Very friendly staff. Lovely room.
- christine (10/5): - We had a lovely time ,
Great team,friendly,accommodating
- Tony (10/5): Great stay! - Lovely check-in - welcoming staff and no issues. Room was warm, cosy, clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Arrived Friday night, with no prior knowledge or warning that the roads around would all be closed for town event. Staff were polite and breakfast was good but was shocked how noisy it was in our room both nights till midnight. Was hoping to catch up on sleep Saturday afternoon but music was blaring from 3pm. If we had been advised that it would be so loud we would of found alternative acxomidation. Have stayed in pubs before but not one with so much noise. If you like to party till late this is the place for you.
- Sheila (8/5): - Staff very freindly but the area itself lovelt
- James (6/5): - Noisy bed could do with a new one and get a better cleaner
- Duncan (10/5): - Excellent hotel and well worth the price. Great location with lots of amenities.
The young lady( unfortunately I didn’t get her name) was brilliant and very helpful and friendly.
- Mark (10/5): Value for money - Had a lovely weekend at the Cambrian, staff were excellent, breakfast was lovely, value for money, would definitely go back or might even try their sister hotel, close by
- David (10/5): Great Stay - Great stay again - have stayed many times - shame the town clock has been fixed
- Gary (10/5): The hidden gem - There was a problem whenwe went to book in we booked the king room but they took us to a two single room the staff member claire sorted it out straight away putting that little problem aside the staff was very polite and friendly the rooms were very nice and the breakfast was one of the best we have had well recommended
- Peter (10/5): Excellent - Large room very clean . Comfy bed . Good food and bar. Value for money can't fault
- joanne (10/5): - If you love a really friendly pub stay. Then this is the place. Lovely sweet place, people and staff.
- Paul (10/5): - OK for an overnight stay.
- Martin (10/5): Value for money, quiet and comfortable - Quiet room, a comfortable bed, nice shower, clean room, easy parking,I have paid a lot more in other Hotels but this was exceptionally good value, will definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good place to stay. - We had a good night stay. Breakfast option was available with little extra fee (Paid at the reception). Rooms were well maintained. Located in town center close to many amenities/food/busy happening place. We enjoyed our stay over all.
- FRIEDA (8/5): - Nice room .Saturday night live music a bit noisy.
- Tim (2/5): AVOID AT ALL COSTS - HORRENDOUS AND PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Booked on Hotels.com. I booked for 19th - 21st August yet The Cambrian Inn had me booked for 20th - 22nd August. Hotels.com then cancelled my entire reservation (not just the one night which I had requested they cancel) so when I turned up on Saturday 20th, expecting my reservation to be in place for that one night, I was turned away by the hotel who did not have my reservation. The hotel is refusing to provide me with a refund for the first night's stay, Hotels.com is refusing to do anything about it, and I had to book last minute hotels for both nights, and wasted time/fuel travelling to the Cambrian Inn. Also, the Cambrian Inn is absolutely disgusting. Loudest music in the world and no parking available.
- Kay (10/5): - Friendly staff. Rooms were very good, clean and spacious.
- Travis (8/5): Cosy, spacious, good music, cheap prices - Accommodation situated above their bar /pub where there was music played each night we were there so keep that in mind if you're looking for somewhere quiet. Music was good, nice vibe by the bar and good price. Was nice to come for a drink after a long day out. Side entrance to your rooms if you don't want to walk through the bar.
Able to get breakfast between 08:00 - 10:00 downstairs (English breakfast, coffee etc) very tasty and friendly staff. Breakfast was around £5.
Rooms are quite big and spacious. Blinds and curtains so if want to sleep in the next morning it does block out alot of the sun.
Hotel on the highstreet so walking distance to everywhere plus close by restaurants and shops.
Parking - limited parking on main street but residential area around the corner so we just parked there no problem.
- Peter (8/5): - One night stay for family celebration. Very good rate for Sunday evening . Good welcome and a lovely room. Great shower. We were offered breakfast for a good price, but we had arranged it with friends. Warm room, so we opened the window. Some noise from Town clock & road on the Main Street. Enjoyed our stay overall.
- Chris (8/5): - Big room and the staff were nice. Business across the road played loud music continuously at the weekend. Most shops in the high street were closed.
- Stephen (8/5): - I stayed here on a Saturday night, and yes it is noisy and rowdy. However I knew this and knew what to expect. I wouldn't stay here with young kids or if you want a romantic weekend away, but if you want somewhere with decent rooms for a decent price and don't need to sleep before midnight then this is a great options
- Miss (10/5): - Staff were very amenable. We stayed in room 3 and room 5. Very pleasant and we will one day return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - First time booking through hotels.com and had the worst experience ever. Drove 100 miles all the way and only to be told at the hotel they don’t have my reservation on the system. Trip and weekend plans ruined.
- Nicola (10/5): - The staff were very obliging. Ryan was extremely polite, warm and welcoming, as were, in fact all the staff. We stayed on room 3 and room 5 and bang right at the start of The Queens Platinum Jubilee.
- Malcolm (8/5): Overnight stay for sporting event next day. - The pub was extremely busy due to FA Cup final. Also they had a music night organised for that Saturday evening, so it was going to ne noisey!!. However we were told it would finish at midnight. True to there word, every thing fell silent exactly at midnight with no further music noise or noise of any sort.
Our room was large with a balcony. Bathroom was large, with shower cubicle with a powerful shower, hand wash basin and toilet. Free toiletries provided, towels also provided.
The only down side for the big room was the beds. Not very comfortable, felt lumpy and one bed in particular made a lot of noises when you moved or rolled over.
TV provided and coffee/ tea making facilities.
Pub owners recommended a lovely idian restuarant which was only 50 metres around the corner from pub.
Meal here was fantastic with great help from the waiters in recommending what dishes tp try.
I would stay at this pub / inn again.
- David (10/5): Great stay - Have stayed pre covid many times great place to stay
The only problems are the noise from the bar downstairs and the click chimes in the Main Street
- Piotr (2/5): - Room was clean, spacious and relatively comfortble.
As there is a pub downstairs dont think you will have an early night. But that is understandable.
But what is not understandable is the manager of the pub who has a flat at the top floor to bash around with other members of staff, having drinks, laughs, shouting music and whatever else she was doing until 04:30 AM in the morning. Even after me banging to her door around 2am and demanding for them to stop she had no decency to stop the "party" at her flat.
Absolutely disgusting how you can treat your customers like that. If it wasnt for this incident I would probably rate the stay positively taking into account the price.
Reported this to Expedia but of course there is not much they could do at that time of the night/morning.
- Caroline (10/5): - Beautiful comfortable, large, spotless room overlooking the town square.
Friendly staff.
Only criticism is that room is above the main bar and (it was a Saturday night) very noisy until midnight. We were advised of this on arrival and the music did stop just before midnight as we were told. We were then able to get a good night’s sleep in a very comfortable king sized bed.
- Rene (8/5): - It was a nice hotel in the middle of a small village. I enjoyed myself in the nice big room. I am not sure this would be the place for everyone. It was very noisy for a while due to the bar downstairs. They were playing dance music. However we were so tired it didn't seem to matter.
- M (6/5): - If you like loud music till midnight, you don't need to leave your room, as walls are sound transparent. But music was good! Disappointing no evening food but we found across the road.
- Sharon (8/5): - Had a lovely stay and added bonus the weather was beautiful..the staff friendly and very helpful can’t wait to stay again
- Brian (2/5): - Impossible to sleep because of noise levels from the bar area below. This was both during the day and well into the night after midnight.
Only book here if you are deaf.
- Kelly (10/5): Excellent - Fab clean room. Checkin was so easy. We were above the bar in room 3 so music could be heard until midnight but that wasnt a problem for us but coukd be for someone with small children. Woukd highly recommended and will be staying again.
- Andrea (10/5): Well recommend - My Fiancé and i had a wonderful night's stay, even though it was a date night away from the family, the room was wonderful , clean everything we needed, clean , fredh linen and towels, exceptional, staff couldn't do enough for us, pleasnt and helpful, even told us the best place to eat that night as they weren't doing food as they had an artist on that night. We came back to the hotel , its was buzzing with people and a great atmosphere, well recommended. We will be back again.
- julianne (2/5): Do not stay if you want any sleep!! - Worst ‘hotel’ I have ever been to. We were meant to stay for two nights but only stayed for one and checked out early the following morning. Music so loud that the floor was vibrating and didn’t end until gone midnight. Smoking area located outside our bedroom window, so all night banging doors and loud drunk people. Lumpy beds, no food being served in the evening. Booked for a relaxing weekend and ended up having to change hotels, pay extra for this and refused a refund despite not staying the second night.
- ronald (10/5): - Stayed for the weekend, Danielle, landlady, ever so pleasant
- David (10/5): - Central
- Ray (10/5): - Friendly staff great owner . Rooms warm comfortable clean and very tidy . Stay again
- Gail (10/5): - Very pleasant stay overnight and breakfast was lovely Staff are super bar was quite noisy but to be fair the Rugby 🏉 (Wales was playing ) so understandable
Rooms are nice and clean fresh towels coffee or tea in you’re room
Breakfast was delicious and made to order
Would recommend this hotel from my one nights stay
- Camilla (10/5): - Booked for a one night stay - good hotel and pub. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Great room - it was huge, and clean! Would stay again. Free car park nearby.
- Gerald (10/5): Great hotel - Very good. Friendly staff
Immaculate
Would definitely recommend
- Kathleen Mary (8/5): - Good sized rooms, very comfortable.
Balcony was not private but shared across 3 rooms with access to it from the beer garden. This did not bother us this trip as the rain prevented use of the public area, but may do so during better weather.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Left a day early. Couldn't stand the noise. Insecure street parkiing. No reasonable places for an evening meal. Think I deserve a refund for cutting the stay short !
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great find for short break to Wales - Really enjoyed a fabulous 3 night stay at The Cambrian Inn. The owner and staff were so welcoming and could not be more helpful. Their friendliness and warm atmosphere of the Inn made all the difference. The accommodation was great with comfortable beds (we booked 2 rooms) and brilliant showers. Highly recommend for visit Brecon Beacons etc.
- Gavin (2/5): If you don’t want sleep! - Wasn't pre warned there was going to be loud from 7.30pm till 12am!
Then people gathering around outside really noisey and no sleep.
Bed was broken on one side.
Was to late to find another room with a 4yr old.
- J (2/5): - This is not a hotel, it's an Inn above a pub with extremely loud music playing until 11.30pm (floor was literally vibrating!) In addition, they tried to charge me £70 for a room I'd booked on-line for £54!
We'd booked this room as we were doing an event the next day and wanted somewhere close, we were up at 6am the next day, so our plan was to check in and get any early night. Not an enjoyable stay, would only recommend if you don't plan on getting any early night or much sleep!
- Kay (10/5): - Very friendly helpful staff,we had a lovely experience
