- Andrew (9/5): Great base for exploring Ventnor - St Maur is a great location for exploring Ventnor. Our room was comfortable and warm, with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The historic building is quirky and the garden is a lovely spot to take in the Spring sunshine! Our host Dave was friendly and welcoming and very flexible re our early departure time in order to get the ferry back to the mainland. Lovely breakfast, including a hearty full cooked option! Nothing!

- Heather (10/5): Perfect small hotel with lovely staff - Lovely small, characterful hotel, perfect for a short break in Ventnor. Run by very friendly and helpful staff, everything was clean and comfortable, and everything you needed was provided. We had great fun playing snooker on the full size table, which was in a beautiful, huge room, which also had a grand piano that the owner very kindly let us play. Lovely breakfast room overlooking the beautiful front gardens, and the breakfast food was perfectly cooked with something to suit all tastes. The hotel is not in the town centre, but you can walk to the beach front on the coastal path in about 10 minutes, where there are some lovely cafes, pubs, and restaurants. It is also just a short walk to the Ventnor Botanic Gardens, which are definitely worth a visit.

Rooms bang on, mattress nice and firm, tidy balcony to sit out. Beautiful baby grand piano and a full size snooker table combined to make the wee small hours a joy. An honesty box next to a full range of drink options in the comfy bar area (complete with CD collection) sums up the place. Gorgeous garden too. Racked brains for something. Maybe the coffee was a bit naff! For metropolitan fools like us, wouldn’t have minded a nice filter coffee. Aside from that, faultless. Will go again.

Tea bags, coffee sachets and biscuits topped up every day. Very nice peaceful area. A short walk to the Botanic Gardens and some lovely coastal walks. I wish we'd booked a longer stay. We did discuss asking to stay longer however it would have meant undoing other arrangements.

Room very comfortable. No lift so if you had mobility issues be aware of this. However Ventnor is on a cliff! Possibility to charge your EV. Lovely garden. A piano! We were in the smallest double room, as it happened, but this was plenty big enough for us both. Having a fridge was really useful. Lovely sea view. Light, airy room, good sized en suite, and all exceptionally clean. Lovely dining room and amazing reception rooms available for guests to use. There was nothing to dislike about the property.

- Greg (10/5): The four of use - two couples - could not have wished for anything more. - The location is very good: free parking on a driveway (plus on the road, if necessary). A beautiful 19th-century building, with high ceilings and period features. A grand home-from-home feel to it, with stunning gardens to the front. Breakfasts were marvellous (including poached haddock!), served by a very friendly woman. I can't think of anything - except perhaps something that can't be helped: a short walk to the town is fine, but the walk down to the seafront is quite steep (on the way back). Helpfully, the very friendly, personable owner can provide taxi details.

St Maur is just perfect for a short or longer stay. It's spacious, comfortable, well-equipped and the owner and staff could not be more friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be coming back.

- Neil (10/5): An outstanding bed and breakfast hotel - A super bed & breakfast. Our room was large, light and airy, with a lovely balcony and sea views. We were impressed with the quality of facilities both in our room and in the B&B more generally. There was clearly a lot of care put into maintaining the rooms, house and gardens. It’s located in a quiet part of Ventnor but is well located for the town, and has easy access to the rest of the island (the drive along the coast road to Freshwater is stunning). It’s hard to imagine you’d find a better B&B on the island. Not a dislike for us as we enjoy walking but Ventnor is hilly so it’s worth mentioning that although the B&B is well located a walk to any part of the town (beach, town, restaurants, Steeplehill Cove) does require an element of walking up and down relatively steep, but short, hills.

Room was large, bed was huge, pillows extremely comfortable, staff friendly and the breakfast was exceptionally good Ventnor has a very poor taxi service and the hill was steep

Parking usually available on the drive, oherwise always easy along the road outside. The bathroom shower was a little odd: the volume control and the heating control seemed to be the same, running from low volume/cold at one extreme to low volume/hot at the other, passing through high volume/lukewarm in the middle. And the curtain did not direct water entirely within the rim. some of it always ending up on the bathroom floor

- Marion (10/5): An honest assessment of St Maur Gust House. - St Maur is set in a wonderful environment that can best be described as the nearest that the United Kingfom has to a subtropical environment. The gust house itself was very pleasant and we'll maintained. The staff were very polite and provided a first-class professional service. The brakefasts were exclent, and they provided for my dietary requirements. We would rate then as absolutely excellent and a first rate top quality gust house, and we would highly recommend them. Unfortunately, the southern part of the Island, doses not have a good bus service. As I do not drive and my husband has had to give up driving. The bus service was completely inadequate, which I which I would categorically state, that this is something that is entirely outside of the control of St Maur. I would advise anyone booking this location to be aware of the inadequate public transport and that the use of a car is strongly advised.

- Strictly (9/5): A fabulous stay in a quiet relaxing place with friendly helpful staff - A lovely comfortable stay, loved relaxing in the beautiful garden, nice to be able to walk to the local amenities and it was near to all the places we wanted to visit.

- Sam (10/5): Exceptional - Great freindly staff and warm environment. Good breakfast loads of choice and personalised. beautiful garden and very clean room. Teas, coffee's and fresh milk were a very nice touch. Little bar was a good idea as was the list of local restraunts and numbers. The shower could be more powerful, but it's a minor gripe in an otherwise outstanding venue.

- Mark (9/5): What a delightful few days away. - Fantastic spacious accommodation with a terrific view out towards the sea. The breakfasts were lovely and the whole place had a very friendly and relaxed vibe. My only (very minor) gripe was the fact that the hot water to the bath was very slow and it took ages for the bath to fill up.

- Puleston (10/5): Highly recommended - Great location.Very green peaceful area of Ventnor, with easy access to many scenic walks. The atmosphere at the property was warm and welcoming. St Maur is an interesting building well maintained and loved with echos of bygone times. the staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast choices were many and varied and all of excellent quality. We are definitely planning to return. No complaints at all!

Large comfortable bed. Good quality toiletries in bathroom. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits replenished daily. Fridge in room with fresh milk and bottled water. Plentiful breakfast, including fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, full English breakfast available within price.

The view from the room was so beautiful and the location of the hotel makes it perfect to visit the beautiful town of ventnor and the surroundings. If you don't have a car, you can still easily get there by bus and it's easy to walk down to the beach or visit the wonderful botanic gardens Nothing, it was perfect
- Sara (9/5): Fantastic - I love this place and am going to rebook very soon, staff were lovely, rooms were very clean, water pressure in the shower is very good and towels that actually went round me properly (im a big woman) the owner gave us a nice little upgrade on our room with a cute little balcony overlooking the garden and the sea, the breakfast was amazing with plenty of choices. The only drawback for me was it's high on the hill so walking was a problem but only because I was in an accident a few months ago.

Soft carpets very comfortable bed and even a fridge with milk and water for tea and coffee. Lisa who served us our breakfast was a delight. I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Ventnor.
- Shazia (10/5): Beautiful little hideaway - St Maur is a beautiful little gem of a place. It's easy to find and in a brilliant location. It's close to Ventnor Botanical gardens (where the entrance ticket gives you unlimited access for 7 days), it's practically opposite Ventnor park (through which you can walk down to the beach) and about 15 mins walk away from the town centre. Buses are easy and regular. David and the staff are lovely and very helpful. The rooms are airy and clean and the beds are comfortable with good mattresses and a fridge and TV. They also provide big, hearty breakfasts. My friend and I stayed for 3 nights and will definitely be going back as this is our favourite part of the Island. Thank you David and the team for a wonderful time. There genuinely wasn't anything we didn't like.

- Ekaterina (10/5): If you are still undecided where to stay, this is you sign to book this place - I couldn't imagine a better place to stay in Ventnor. The room was superb, with a bathroom bigger than my whole flat and a bathtub in the middle. All windows faced the sea and the front garden. The garden is something you need to see for yourself! The owner David is amazing!

Thank you David and team for a wonderful stay. The room was fantastic, we will miss not waking up to that view and a coffee sat with the doors open. An amazing breakfast to set us up everyday, so much choice and all really excellent quality. There was nothing to dislike. A warm inviting reception, period charm, clean and bright.
