The tents were greateven in the rain and slight wind that we had, it’s great because after a morning game ride and breakfast you have time for a nap if you didn’t have the perfect nights sleep. Greg our game host was brilliant, a credit to the team. The food and beverages were great, we were worried 3 nights was too long at first but it was all fine when we saw some amazing sights on our last game drive. Nothing

• Steffen (7/5): - Der Ausblick von der Hüttenterrasse über eine große Ebene mit Wasserloch ist super. Mit etwas Glück sieht man schon von dort Elefanten, Büffel und Nashörner. Die Ausfahrten mit unserem Guide waren sehr gut. Das Parkmanagement macht einen guten Eindruck. Das Personal ist durchweg sehr nett und bemüht. Leider ist das Hotelmanagement nicht ganz auf dem Level des Parkmanagements. So bemüht das Personal auch ist, sind leichte Abweichungen vom Standardprogramm schon eine Herausforderung. So verrückte Anfragen wie "4 statt 2 Eier zum Frühstück" oder "Nein, wir wollen keinen Zimmerservice" werden nicht oder erst nach mehrmaligem Hinweis umgesetzt. Wir hatten einige Flecken auf den Decken. Unsere Hütte "Zebra" würde ein paar Renovierungen vertragen. Das WLAN funktioniert nur bedingt im Gemeinschaftsbereich. Mit großen Datenmengen geht da aber nichts. Handyempfang funktioniert nur wenn der Wind günstig steht. Wenn ich kein Digital Detox gebucht habe ist das für 4 Sterne nicht zeitgemäß. Man wird quasi "gezwungen" mit anderen Gästen zu socialisen, da das Essen an einem großen Tisch serviert wird. Wir hatten Glück, kann aber auch blöd laufen.
• Frederique (10/5): Fantastisch!!! - De locatie was prachtig, het personeel fantastisch. De tenten super schoon en elke dag werd onze kamer zelfs opgeruimd. Uitzicht over het prachtige Amakhala. De safari’s werden geleid door Rob, die vol passie kon vertellen over alle dieren en de prachtige natuur, we hebben alle mooie beesten gezien die we wilden zien en meer. Na de Safari kregen we elke avond een lekker drankje aan het kampvuur wat heel idyllisch was waarna we een lekker diner kregen. We hebben er 2 nachten geslapen, maar ik was het liefst nog dágen extra verbleven. Een en al top!

We hadden helaas slecht weer. Dus dan zijn de tenten niet heel fijn. Veel gelklapper door de wind. En de bedden vond ik nogal hard, maar dat is persoonlijk.

• Glaister (9/5): - The Game drives were wonderful, with Tim (our Ranger) using his extensive knowledge and experience to provide us with the best opportunities to see the fantastic animals within the reserve. My fellow guests and my wife and I set out as strangers but rapidly developed a friendship, both during the drives and the drinks/ meal times, where we enjoyed good food and wine, beer, etc. All the staff were welcoming and accommodating, taking care of us throughout. I also enjoyed the downtime between drives, when I took the opportunity to sit out on our private verandah and watch the Dassies playing on the rocks. All in all, a wonderful experience!! The mossies/flies that attacked my legs! I quickly switched from shorts to long trousers and this cured the problem. In fairness, the other guests who wore shorts throughout on our drives were left untouched, so I obviously attracted them. This didn't detract from the wonderful experience we had.

Essen, Trinken, Safaris mit super ausgebildeten Guides. Alles hervorragend. Während man auf Safari ist, wird das Abendessen vorbereitet. Während des Abendessens werden die Zelte für die Nacht vorbereitet (aufgewärmt). Wirklich ein besonderes Erlebnis.

Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht! Das Essen in Buffetform war wenig und nicht besonders. Der Service war unpersönlich und gelangweilt. Die Ausstattung der Zelte war sehr einfach.

The reserve is vast and the conservation is fantastic. Our guide Tim was tremendous along with all the staff. The tented camp was very comfortable and the food delicious. It’s not a pretentious experience. We bought out children and they had fallen in love with the natural world after a few days here. We love Amakhala It isn’t a 5* luxury hotel - we don’t want to feel like we were in Dubai.

• Andrea (6/5): Wir waren nur für eine Nacht in der Unterkunft - und das war auch völlig ausreichend. - Die Lage war sehr schön. Die Mitarbeiter sind ebenfalls sehr nett und bemüht. Ziel ist es, die Gäste zusammenzubringen, so dass man sich gut untereinander austauschen und Urlaubserlebnisse erzählen kann. Zwei Game Drives inklusive. Zelte sind sehr in die Jahre gekommen, extrem einfache Ausstattung, der Preis dafür deutlich überteuert im Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften im ähnlichen Preissegment. Das Essen leider nicht gut. Es hätte uns sicherlich besser gefallen, wenn der Preis nicht so deutlich unangemessen wäre. You get what you pay for... nicht in diesem Fall :-(

Dinner one night was inedible (rump steak) and our first lunch was awful. (Pita bread which was impossible to cut). Really disappointed considering the price. Also, on our booking confirmation for two nights the conservation levy was R1100 and they wanted to charge us R1700.

Our flight arrived early and was able to hang out at pool until tents were ready. Also got champagne since we were celebrating a birthday. Also our guide Lenny was amazing at finding the big 6! Each game drive was magical Nothing they can do but keep in mind if windy at night the tents are loud and flap.

Es war eine schöne Atmosphäre mit allen Gästen an einem Tisch zu sitzen. Die Game Drives warn super organisiert und der Guide war freundlich und hat uns sehr viel gezeigt.

We had a beautiful room, with a big bed and bath and shower. We thoroughly enjoyed the safari drives with Nico, who is passionate about his job, we saw lots of animals and got great photos .Staying here is a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend this place. The food for the first day of our stay was only ok but it did improve thankfully. I didn't think we should have been charged an conservation fee on checking out and felt everything should already be included in our Booking.com cost. But still I have to say we had a wonderful time.
• Kirstin (9/5): Tolle Lodge für einen Safari-Aufenthalt mit guter Chance auf die Big 5 - Tolle Lage mitten im Amakhala Private Game Reserve (landschaftlich sehr abwechslungsreich), sehr schöne großzügige und nett eingerichtete Bungalows jeweils mit Privatterrasse; versteckt verstreut um Hauptbereich herum. Sehr nettes und aufmerksames Personal. Wir hatten insgesamt 4 Game Drives, haben super viele Tiere gesehen (Löwe, Gepard mit 4 cubs, mehrere Rhinos, Elefantenherde, Büffelherde, Giraffen, Zebras, Schakal und natürlich diverse Antilopenarten en masse, Warzenschweine, Affen etc.), sehr kundige Guides, die den Drive gerne individuell je nach „Wünschen“ anpassen. Haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und können die Lodge uneingeschränkt empfehlen!

The lodge is beautifully set in the African bush, offering stunning views and a truly peaceful atmosphere. The chalets were spacious, comfortable and perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings. The game drives were an unforgettable experience with very knowledgeable rangers, and we were fortunate enough to see the Big Five during our stay. We would definitely recommend bringing a good pair of binoculars and a camera to fully enjoy the incredible wildlife encounters. The warm hospitality, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere made the entire experience very special. All was good
• Petra (10/5): - Mooie locatie, het eten is prima. Hadden alleen 1 avond koude kipsaté we gaven dit door bij de ober maar die deed er verder niks mee. De gamedrives waren echt super, veel mooie beesten gezien en de natuur is echt prachtig. We hadden ook een geweldige gezellige gids Greg, super aardig, goede verhalen en onderweg ook echt leuk en een echte gastheer met zijn drankjes op de tussenstop. Onvergetelijk!! Eten kan eigenlijk wel beter...

Direkt in der Natur, ganz nah bei den Wildtieren, die aber in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung nicht gestört werden. Die Zelte sind super, mit allem was man braucht. Das Essen ist hervorragend und das Personal wahnsinnig nett. Die Game drives sind unglaublich schön, die Guides können alle Fragen beantworten und sind super bemüht. Wir kommen wieder!! Man muss bei Abreise noch eine Gebühr bezahlen für das Game Reserve. An sich verständlich, es wird aber im Vorfeld nicht darauf hingewiesen (sollte in der Beschreibung von booking) mit aufgenommen werden.

• HELENE (8/5): Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans la réserve Woodbury Tented Camp - Amakhala - Les tentes sont très bien situées, avec une très belle vue sur la nature et la réserve. La terrasse est très agréable. Les deux piscines sont propres et agréables (une grande et une plus petite - la plus grande a une très belle vue, la plus petite est protégée du vent). La nourriture du petit déjeuner et du dîner est de bonne qualité. Le personnel est accueillant et très disponible. Notre guide pour les tours du matin et de la fin de journée dans la réserve était sympathique et compétent, nous avons vu beaucoup d'animaux. La meilleure expérience de découverte des animaux et de la nature a été la marche de 2h30 un matin, nous avons été accompagnés par des rangers très expérimentés, avec beaucoup de connaissances sur les habitudes et les comportements des animaux. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cette sortie. De plus nous nous sommes sentis en sécurité. Notre tente était un peu défraîchie et il fait froid le matin et le soir, et très chaud dans la journée (effet sauna). Heureusement il y a une climatisation réversible avec du chauffage et des couvertures chauffantes. Au niveau des repas la qualité du déjeuner est correcte, sans plus. Au petit déjeuner il n'y a pas toujours assez de fromage blanc/yaourt.

• Peter (8/5): Ein bleibendes Erlebnis, die Tiere in ihrem natürlichen Lebensraum zu sehen - Schönes Camp mit guter Ausstattung. Die Safaris morgens sind abends waren DAS Highlight. Wir hatten das Glück alle big 5 zu sehen. Leider hatten wir etwas Pech mit dem Wetter - bei der ersten Safaritour hat es aus Eimern geschüttet und in der 2. Nacht kam ein Sturm auf, dass wir Angst hatten,unser Zelt fliegt weg. Das ist einfach Pech und hat nichts mit dem Camp zu tun.

• JoG (8/5): Good camp for a short safari stay - Sadly we had rain for 3 of our 4 safari drives and all day on the full day in the camp so we didn't experience the camp at its best, bit we did have some good sightings of 4 of the big 5...shame about the lighting for photography. The drives were shorter than at other camps we have been to in South Africa lasting a max of 3 hours, even on the dry drive. We were unable to do the night drives as we had planned. Attractive park and because it's not very big, I suspect there is a good chance of good sightings even in poor weather! Leopards are elusive and difficult to see there. The food is enjoyable and the service very good and efficient. Nice wines. The short game drives -we expected 3 1/2 to 4 hours especially in the morning as the days in camp are so long as a result.
• Frank (10/5): Ein perfektes Erlebnis - Eine sehr persönlich geführte Lodge. Man fühlt sich sehr wohl und bekommt alles was man gerne haben möchte. Die Pirschfahrten, welche 2 mal pro Tag durchgeführt werden, sind ein Highlight. Unser Ranger Lenni war perfekt und wir konnten alle Tiere sehen die wir sehen wollten.
• Oliver Steven (9/5): Wunderbarer Aufenthalt mit Rundum Sorglos Paket - Der herzliche Empfang mit einem kühlen Getränk das herumführen über das Gelände und die Erklärungen zu den Game Drives haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Koffer wurden gleich in unsere wunderschöne Unterkunft gebracht. Eine tolle Lodge komfortabel und großzügig eingerichtet mit Blick auf den Berg genannt: "Krans". Die Game Drives waren toll organisiert und wir haben jede Menge Tiere gesehen. Bei der Abendrunde gab es einen Sundowner bei der morgendlichen Runde Kaffee, Tee und ein Gebäck. Alle Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Es gibt nichts.

For the price paid, the food and wine could’ve been higher quality. It was a bit awkward to have to eat dinner and breakfast as a large group all at one long table so you have to be in a sociable mood. We really enjoyed the experience but one night was enough.

• Vivianne (8/5): A wonderful wildlife experience. - We have stayed in a number of private game reserves in SA. What made the stay a highlight of our trip was our guide. She listened to what animals and went out of her way to fulfill our wishes. We saw a mother cheetah with her four cubs. Wonderful. The views of the sunrise from our elevated balcony were amazing. Unfortunately, there was no room for us at the boma when we came down for dinner.

• Helene (10/5): Amazing experience and outstanding hospitality! - We just loved everything about Woodbury Camp. The welcome was very warm, the staff super helpful, friendly and so attentive. Nico, our guide for the Game Drives gave a 100% to show us the maximum of wild life, he really went out of his way for us. Tim, the Manager was highly attentive too and we just can't say THANK YOU enough. The tents were super clean and wonderfully located (with a view), the pools are beautiful and the food was the best I had in the Eastern Cape! Thanks for this experience- we dream to come back! There is absolutely nothing to "report"

• Peter (10/5): Phantastisch, persönlich, weiter zu empfehlen! - Der private Charakter jedes Zimmers mit eigenem Balkon hat uns sehr gefallen. Der direkte Blick auf das Wasserloch mit den Tieren war phantastisch. Das Personal immer sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Die Küche hervorragend. Die Sauberkeit ließ keine Wünsche offen. Unser Guide Nico gab sich immense Mühe und erklärte uns sehr viel über die Tiere, die Natur und deren Schutz. Er lebt seinen Job mit tiefer Überzeugung und vermittelte dies auf sehr angenehme Weise. Zudem hatten wir in den 4 Tagen unseres Aufenthaltes Dank Nico, großes Glück mit der Menge der Tiere, die wir sahen. Es ist unsere Hochzeitsreise und wir sind sehr dankbar, sie so schön begonnen zu haben! Inclusive des Schönen Lagerfeuers am Abend. Da gab es nichts zu bemängeln.

• Lynne (9/5): We had a fab 2 night stay, could of stayed longer - The lodge was excellent, intimate with your own cabin well spaced out from anyone else. Lovely areas to sit and relax. We loved the communal dining around the large tables in different areas, gives you lots of chance to catch up on your game drive and speak to new people. Staff and rangers first class .Beautiful rooms well appointments with lovely private outside decking. Maybe a little more choice in the menu
• Petra (8/5): - Die Chalets waren sehr schön und das Essen sehr gut. Bei den Drives war die nahegelegene Schnellstraße sehr störend, die Sichtbarkeit und der Lärm der vorbei donnernden LKW's hat das Naturerlebnis sehr getrübt.

• Kathrin (10/5): - Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit im Amakhala Reserve. Das Personal war sehr nett, aufmerksam und herzlich, man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Anlage und Zelt waren äußerst sauber, gepflegt und komfortabel – von der großen Terrasse aus konnten wir sogar Tiere beobachten. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet und von hoher Qualität. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die Game Drives: hervorragend organisiert und ein echtes Highlight. Unser Guide Johan war unglaublich wissend, herzlich und hat für viele schöne Momente gesorgt. Löwen und Geparden live zu erleben war einfach überwältigend. Was uns besonders gefallen hat, war der respektvolle Umgang mit den Tieren – hier steht ihr Wohl klar im Vordergrund, ganz ohne Massentourismus. Eine authentische, nachhaltige Safari-Erfahrung, die wir uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen können.
