• Bryan (9/5): - I like the pleasant gentleman that runs the establishment. I like the historical significance of Tucumcari. The thing I don't like is that I-40 directed traffic away from a cool town that depended on tourism to prosper.

• ceanne (7/5): Historic Route 66 Hotel is a good basic place to sleep for a night - Tri-Star Inn is a good value hotel. It is easy in and off I 40 and very quiet place to sleep all night. We had a basic room with two queen beds that were comfortable. The heat worked great. Probably built in the 50s the property really shows its age. If there was Wi-Fi, we did not know the password. No cable TV just something off of an antenna.

• MorningGirl (7/5): - The owner was very nice, and the room was pretty spacious. Bathroom was very clean. It's not the fault of the establishment, but ours was the only car in the lot, so we suspect we were the only ones there. The lot was very dark and it was kind of unnerving. I'm glad I was not on a solo trip this time. The fridge was unplugged and therefore not cold, and the wifi was very slow and went out a few times.

• Lynn (5/5): Just ok. - Not too much. This inn is setting into the sunset. Mike is a great guy tying to make the best of an aging facility that is well past its prime. If you’re into nostalgia this may be the place for you.

Very nice gentleman There were little dead bugs on the bathroom vanity. The rest of the place was fairly clean but it felt like it needed a good scrubbing and sanitizing.

• Don (5/5): Now I know why there was only 2 other guests. Stay was short and not sweet. - Bed was comfortable. Clerk was very friendly The clerk was a very odd person but very nice. Room was below average and not very well stocked with soap or towels. But the 4" scorpion in the bathroom at 4 am wasn't pleasant. Luckily I was wearing shoes, causing us to pack up and leave at 4:30am. Won't stay there again.

• Bert (10/5): - Cut to the chase, if you are in the area, choose this place. Very, very clean room. On property bar had locals and out of towners (like me), reasonably priced (full) bar and room. And yes, Mike was an actual person and he runs the place, you will read about him in other reviews. Mike is just enough friendly and enough removed to be professional. I hope that I have another opportunity to visit. This is an older Route 66 motel in the best way.

The rate was decent enough for an overnight stay. Old and a bit run down. Nothing was plugged in when I got to the room--refrigerator, microwave, TV. The A/C was very old but worked okay, just not for the entire room. There was no light in the shower, though it was light enough in the bathroom. I think I was the only guest for that night, as there were no other vehicles in the parking lot save for the manager's truck.

• P (10/5): - This place is right on the original Route 66. Coming from the West, it’s the first place you come to. Sadly the glory days of Route 66 are over but back in the day, this hotel was hopping. It has a beautiful stocked full bar area and a nice bar size pool table You can sense the thousands of guests that frequented the bar/restaurant along with a mix of locals that would come by to enjoy live music. Once a Ramada, it’s now the Tri-Star Inn Express and Mike, the owner recently celebrated 20 years at this location. He previously owned a hotel about 70 miles south of Tucumcari prior to settling in Tucumcari. As an immigrant, he moved his family from New York to the desert southwest decades ago. A hard working family man indeed, doing everything from repairs to cleaning toilets, making beds to making breakfast. He made it work. Covid hit and changed a lot. He struggled through it but now faces a depleted, unmotivated work force and no longer has the restaurant portion open. The business is for sale and I’m hoping the right person comes along to keep this place going. It needs a little TLC, a dedicated owner with community support and a free good employees. If I had the funds to buy it I would consider it and relocate to NM. Hopefully someone will come along. Mike, it was a pleasure to get to know you and visit during the two visits I made this summer. • Lloyd (8/5): - Very old, but clean quite, large room. Could see what looked to be ongoing improvements. The tiled floors were nice. No dirty smelly carpets. Price was fair for an independent. Great shower and hot water.

• Robert (8/5): - Other than check-in being a bit longer than expected and a few hairs on the sheets of both beds, the big banana isn’t the fault of the hotel. Be aware that using a third-party to book a room means you’re stuck with what you get. We overlooked the small print: The tiny word that says SMOKING ROOM. The clerk, professional and courteous, offered an upgrade at a cost but emphasized they dog the room. It didn’t take long to adjust. It wasn’t near as bad as a smoking room on 14th St in NYC where rooms are rented by the hour, IF you know what I mean. In this era where smoking rooms are practically obsolete we “ass-umed” it was a nonsmoking room. In to the good stuff. Everything worked fine and the room’s mostly clean. Traffic noise wasn’t bad. Easy parking and on/off I10. Riverside restaurant is near and worth it! The smart TV is only smart if you have the matching Samsung phone. You get what you pay for and for less than 70 bucks it was worth it.

• Wendy (10/5): Long Road Trip made comfortable in Tucumcari, NM - The location was perfect, easy on and off from freeway. It was great to enjoy the Old Route 66 and explore the town. The owner of the Hotel is a fantastic person. The room we had was recently remodeled in a nice rich burgundy color, beautiful shower, tv, and other small appliances and the beds were excellent. The room was very clean and we felt very safe and comfortable staying there. Thank you all for your hospitality. If I could give you all the "stars" in the world, I would give you all of them! Not a single thing, the accommodations were perfect.

• Marlena (10/5): Stop and see this place! - Tucimcari is a place that many travelers just stop to rest during their long drives across the country. This hotel is a great place to stop, hang out with the ownee, play some pool, visit with some locals and you can be on your way the next morning!

• Ruth (10/5): - Located on the original Rt 66, the Tristar Inn is a diamond in the rough, full of nostalgic charm. The owner, Mike, was great & got us checked in quickly. We spent a couple hours in the very well stocked hotel bar (with a pool table) where we enjoyed a few beers & pizza before turning in. Our room was very clean, spacious & comfortable with everything we needed. Fun to think we’re now a part of this cool hotels new history. We’ll be sure to stop again on our next trip through.

• Christie (4/5): You get what you pay for!! - Previous reviews were really good is why we chose this overnight stay. This is close to the worst place i have stayed in. We were told the room had been recently renovated. It had super old and dirty furniture (I did not want to set anything on them). Had some bugs (not bed bugs) and a few mosquitoes i our room. The shower looked recently done but did not drain. If we weren't so tired I think we would have looked elsewhere. Ya get what ya pay for as the price was the best thing going for this place.

• Janda (10/5): - This was an older Route 66 motel, but updated rooms and very clean! We liked that it was on Route 66 and not one of the big hotel groups. It was charming and perfect for our needs. The attached bar area looked so inviting, but we were tired from a long day of driving so didn’t actually sit down for a relaxing drink. Owner was so very pleasant and kind. This will be our new go to place when traveling.

Mattress looked new. There was a mini fridge and a micro wave. I really liked the walk in shower. Plenty of hot water.
• Cheryl (10/5): A Diamond in the Rough - This is an extremely clean, basic hotel room Look at the price. The bed seemed brand new . The linens were clean. Tile floors made it even cleaner . Quiet. I felt safe. But, even better was Mike the owner and his friend Alf, who was visiting . There is a full bar on the premises. We sat there and had a couple of drinks and told tales back and forth . This will always be our nighttime destination on Interstate 40 in NM. Off the Interstate , but easy to find. Thank you for your hospitality.

• FoxChavez (8/5): A True Blast From The Past - It’s been 50 years since we last visited Tucumcari and stayed at the local KOA there, and that’s about all I remember of the town. Route 66 was the forerunner of I-44 & I-40 so Main Street was the prime locations of motels and restaurants. Sadly very few of them exist today. TriStar Inn is one. The earlier reviews are accurate in that the facility is dated, however, our room was fine, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed meeting Mike the owner who also tended bar where we had several Manhattans made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon. By late Saturday evening the bar got busy with local regulars. Give it a try!

While the clerk was friendly, the property is worn and has seen a better day. It is honestly a bit sad in that I am guessing this place was pretty great back in the heyday of Route 66.

• Swen (1/5): Creepy, abandoned motel with angry front desk “staff” - Terrible, wished I hadn’t stayed here Don’t try to arrive on a Friday night. The front desk guy will be in the bar watching the football game with the guys. He’ll ignore you, until you come in a 2nd time and feel bad about taking him away from his game and buddies. Then, he will be annoyed you brought a pet and didn’t inform him when you initially made the booking with booking.com (as if booking.com has that feature). You will be lectured and told the price for the dog is 20 dollars instead of the 10 dollars mentioned on the site (he did back down to ten, so he could more quickly get back to his game). The guy needs to get a different job, he’s wayyyyyy too comfortable in this one, treating guests as a bother to him.

He told me he didn’t care it was a service dog and was going to charge me extra for the dog. He lectured me for like 15 minutes about my dog not being a service dog and didn’t even give me the chance to defend my self on why he was a service dog.
• Wendy (8/5): Good place - It is a motel. For 70ish dollars. It was pretty decent. It was clean and comfortable. We had a pickup truck with stuff in the back, and we were told nothing happens here, and true to his word, nothing happened. It's a good place to sleep and shower.
