If this lodge would go one step further for comfort, then it would be worth the $200+ per night—like Adding extra blankets and either small coffee machines and/or micro-wave ovens in the room with to-go coffee cups, etc. It was a basic room missing little touches to bring comfort to a traveler.
• David (10/5): - Our room was clean, odor free and comfortable. It’s quick and easy to get to the main shopping center and eating spots. The hotel is a bit dated but we would happily stay there again. Spacious parking. The breakfast was very modest, bagels, toast and boxed oatmeal, but very good coffee. There are great breakfast spots nearby so why easy the calories at the hotel.

• Margaret (10/5): - Our room and the property were clean and quiet. Check-in went smoothly and any issues we had were handled promptly and courteously.. There was a nice continental breakfast and coffee/tea available all day as well as a coffee pot in the room. No microwave, but a refrigerator was in the room. The only drawback for us was the stairs, only because we are older and not quite as agile as we once were. Being within walking distance of shops and restaurants was a big benefit and being able to open our window and hear the lake was great. Oh- for those of us who find TVs smarter than us, finding the Sunday night football game was a struggle. TV instructions would be helpful as there are no “regular” channels but many, many apps that might or might not have what you are looking for.
• Ruthanne (6/5): - A bit dated and basic. Main window in my room was broken. Breakfast was very basic, nothing hot.
• Joyce (8/5): - The room was comfortable and the lodge is conveniently located in the heart of Grand Marais. The guest laundry was free to use, although it could have been cleaner and the machines weren't in great shape. Continental breakfast is included.
• Mia (8/5): - Aspen Lodge was in a wonderful location with a partial view of Lake Superior. The hotel had everything you need but could use an update and the cleanliness was wanting. Overall a good stay.
• Judith (8/5): - The hotel was clean and we really were just looking for a place to stay for two nights. The outside of the property looked like a jungle and we joked about the jungle look. However it was clean and close to downtown area. Very quiet. Had a nice pool and whirlpool. We may stay again
• Amy (8/5): Great Little town and nice hotel! - Hotel is old but comfortable. Room was spacious with 2 queen beds, frig, desk, table, dresser, closet. The bed was good. The bathroom was not 100% clean. There was a piece of hair on the floor. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bar soap was provided. Breakfast was bagels, bread, toaster, muffins, oatmeal, cereal, peanut butter, applesauce, orange juice, apple juice. No fruit. There are not a lot of places to stay in this little town, but I would stay here again. The hotel was very quiet and I didn’t see a lot of people. The parking lot was always full, but the people were quiet. Front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance employees were nice. The town and surrounding area is beautiful and wonderful. I did not see a water dispenser anywhere and I don’t drink out of the tap so I had to get bottled water from the store.

Front desk receptionist seemed more occupied with her smart phone video games than behaving professionally. Breakfast was continental, at a minimum. Coffee was ok, bland bakery goods, no warm food options such as eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes. Upside: wearing proper walking shoes, harbor and restaurants withing a mile.

Our room window was broken with bugs flying inside it. breakfast was nonexistent. Muffins and cold pancakes are not acceptable. Needed hot food. Eggs/sausage etc. not really a fun experience for our time up there.

• Dana (2/5): - The property has not been updated in so long there are cigarette burns all over our carpeting. No coffee maker or safe. Carpet bubbling in hallways. Hands down the most run down, poorly maintained hotel in Grand Marais.
• Nancy (6/5): Dissappointing - Dated furnishings in the rooms, worn/stained carpet seemed like a different place from the updated lobby. Our hair dryer didn't work, told front desk, but it didn't get fixed. Small sign, which we didn't see regarding having to request to have the room cleaned. I appreciate the ecological perspective but wish this would've been verbally stated when we checked in. Breakfast was predominantly carbs.

Our toilet would keep running until we jiggled the handle enough for it to stop. The beds were very hard. It’s a decent hotel and we’ve been staying here for years since I grew up in Grand Marais. It just needs to be updated.

• Karen (10/5): Had the best sleep in months! - We had the best sleep we have had in months! We chose the king room with hot tub in the room. They even had bath salts next to the tub! The room was dated (I was worried about the other reviews I read). But the bed, cleanliness and quietness outweighed everything. Isn't that what you want? Oh, the price was $100 less than any other hotel in the area (in August).

• Phillip (10/5): Loved this place! - We loved staying here. The staff are all helpful and friendly. Even if the decor is outdated as some reviews mention, the rooms and property are immaculate! We’ve never stayed anywhere that every square inch of the room and bathroom were this clean. This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to downtown Grand Marais. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you!!

Large number of noisy kids in pool, who's adult supervisors, did not calm down their 5 or more kids, so that others could use the pool and hot tub, enjoyably. Breakfast offerings were poor: cold cereal, bagels, 5-inch premade cold pancakes, muffins, bread, just regular coffee, juice, milk, small selection of tea, and small apples and oranges. Room had chair with torn fabric on its seat, and widow inside molding was peeling. Outside hotel doors were not set up to be locked at night.

Breakfast room was disgusting...Too much soap used on floor & shoes squeaked, tables ip against very dirty window ledges & breakfast offered was very poor. Upon checkiut, I returned room key & clerk was using her phone telling Siri to call so & so, she didn't hangup when she saw me, didn't ask how my stay was, didn't thank me, but kept on her phone & gave me a thumbs up as I walked away...She barely acknowledged me & didn't say one word to me. All in all, a very unsatisfactory experience.

• Ryan J (6/5): - The hotel is a bit outdated and kind of has a 90's feel to it. The AC unit in my room worked extremely well, it cools off quickly. However, you cannot run the AC for long periods of time. Which is stated by a note on the AC unit. Which is why i only ran it at night when going to bed. The beds were ok as in not the most comfortable, but i slept on worse. Toilet had a weak flush. Also, there is no elevator. Meaning if you're on the 3rd floor, be prepared to haul all your luggage up the stairs. Also the jacuzzi didn't have working heat. Microwaves are not included in the room, there in only one and it's in the lobby. Overall, it was an ok place to stay for a few nights. It's not a fancy hotel that goes above and beyond. But it's just an average ok hotel and that's ok I suppose. Lastly, I believe it was expensive and overpriced for what you get.
• Ron (6/5): Disappointed on the North Shore. - Our first impression entering the lobby was lots of trash in the flower gardens by front door. The yard was not maintained and the grass was not cut, Our room was on the third floor but there was no elevators. It was very difficult for my wife after her recent knee surgery. The breakfast was only continental, not as advertised. For the price we paid for this stay it was not worth it. We would not stay there again.
• Susan (8/5): - Great location, easy walk to shopping, the harbor. The decor is stuck in the 1980's, but it was clean. The only thing I didn't like was the electrical outlets were all under a counter or piece of furniture. Not convenient for plugging in our electronics. Not even a USB outlet. People today travel with electronics and would recommend this hotel update their access.

The television setup, only streaming services, no local channels etc. really was not up to par. The hot tub we were told works heats about 50% of the time. The staff didn't really seem that attentive though they were friendly.

Bathroom fan was super load. hope it did not annoy the neighbors. Bathroom sink was cracked. Towel rack in bathroom fall off the wall. it was not installed properly. They could update the 80's furniture in the room. Needs outlets for phone chargers by nightstand. Continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Overall it was a good place to stay.

The bathroom and jetted tub were very clean. What we paid for one night in this room we can get 2 nights at a hotel in the twin cities.
