It would be great if the hotel made more of an effort to make guests aware of this so people can have a more restful stay.

The resort itself had fantastic service, food and amenities. The Deer Run rental home itself was absolutely beyond our expectations! This rental is worth every penny! From waking up to incredible Mountain View’s (with local beavers in view) to a fun afternoon of billiards, to watching a movie in the awesome surround sound movie theater room….you just can’t beat it. Oh, did I forget to mention the hot tub and sauna?? The owners are top notch and have put a lot of thought and care into this home!
- Happiness38488899648 (2/5): Please read fully. - It is disheartening to have to write this review. My fiancé and I visited the MTR in anticipation of potentially getting married there. We reside out of state and took time off work to stay overnight, which was generously offered as a complimentary accommodation in our wedding brochure. Our room was exceptional and we thought would set the tone for the remainder of our stay. The grounds were breathtaking, and we were eagerly anticipating our tour with Khele the following day. That evening, we dined at the resort tavern. I informed our waitress of my severe mushroom allergy, and she diligently noted it down. However, our main course, the steak, was brought to us by a young man running the food service, not our waitress. I cut a piece of steak and dipped it into the steak sauce provided on the plate. Our waitress, who was engaged in conversation with another table, whom she seemed to be very friendly with, approached us and informed me that she had instructed the runner to disclose that the steak sauce contained mushroom powder. Given the severity of my allergy, why would the restaurant even serve an item containing it? I explained my situation to her, and she informed me that she had Benadryl available in the back. I then elaborated on the severity of my allergy. Despite the inconvenience caused, the restaurant comped us dessert, and my fiancé and I were willing to overlook the issue due to our fondness for the grounds. However, allergies must be taken with utmost seriousness. Our tour commenced at 9:00 AM, and it concluded at 9:40 AM. Khele greeted us at the front desk, and we proceeded to start on our tour. Khele led us to what appeared to be his personal vehicle, an Audi. This was no problem. However, upon entering his SUV, Khele informed us that due to muddy conditions near the ceremony site and his desire to not dirty his car, he would not be showing us the ceremony site. This revelation took us and my fiancé by complete surprise, as seeing the potential ceremony site is an integral aspect of the wedding ceremony. Upon initially being throw off, thinking maybe he was just joking, we proceeded with the tour. Our tour itinerary included a visit to the exquisite private residences on the property. Coincidentally, another party was also touring the property at the same time and was shown the ceremony site. While we comprehend his concern for the cleanliness of his personal vehicle, there were ample resort vehicles available for our use. This became evident when the other party arrived in a resort vehicle at a house that Khele was showing us. We concluded our tour and returned to his office. Notably, Khele refrained from allowing us to fully observe the ceremony site. Khele inquired about our origins (for privacy reasons, we refrained from disclosing the exact location) and responded that he would not hold it against us. Assuming it was another joke, we proceeded. Upon entering his office, Khele abruptly slid the booklet across the table, like we were a bother. My fiancé read over the booklet to review our options, but Khele failed to provide any numerical information or a proposal. When we inquired about the cost per person, he responded with “ uh like 220 a person or so.” At this point, we recognized that our time was being squandered, and the situation was deeply distressing. This was an unprecedented experience for us, and the treatment we received was profoundly hurtful, even though MTR had limited availability for dates, one date did potentially work for us. Even if the date did not work for us, we would have liked to return. Despite our desire to return, we were unable to reconcile our experience with the positive aspects of other venue tours. The abrupt dismissal and treatment we received from Khele left us feeling utterly blindsided. This review overshadowed the other positive experiences during our venue tour, as we had been firmly committed to booking with MTR. Regrettably, we remain uncertain as to the reasons behind Khele’s decision to rush through our tour and disregard our presence.

But as is, I feel like it was overpriced. Cons: For the price of the unit, we assumed we would get a newer, comfortable mattress to match the level of the unit. Unfortunately the mattress in the primary bedroom was old and needs to be replaced- you felt like you were sinking into the middle - we both woke up with back pain. In addition, the wine glasses were a cloudy mess with etching from dishwasher - they looked dirty. We drank wine from our Yetis that we brought from home. Come on, for the $850 per night you are charging for this unit (all in with taxes and fees) you should get a comfortable and not ancient mattress and clean wine glasses. Finally, they offer free shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, which is great, but it is virtually impossible to get the lotion and the conditioner out of the bottle. I had to get out of the shower get someone with stronger hands to help (and so did another member of our party). Finally the front desk was just okay - I felt like i was annoying them each time I had a question. The place has great potential. I hope they can make some small changes so they can make it worth the price!

- G7399OTlynnf (10/5): Magnificent Mountain Retreat - Nestled in the magnificent Green Mountain National forest region of Vermont....this resort is top notch. We had the privilege of staying in the Fox Hollow guest house that is situated next door to the Mountain Top Resort. This resort books all guest houses and makes it easy to have the best of both worlds. This gives you the opportunity to have your own private yard, kitchen, living room, etc. but also access to the resort amenities. We loved our guest house so much that we really didn't need to go to the resort for meals. We picked up some groceries and cooked up breakfast and then ate lunch and dinner out. This resort location gave us the ability to travel to Stowe for the day and also stop in Manchester for lunch on our way home. The guest house was beautiful with the best view of the mountains and reservoir. I loved watching the mountains change color during the different times of day. The view never gets old and every room had a window(s) to capture the beauty no matter where you stood. There was a patio and grill for guest use. The kitchen was amply set up for cooking (if you felt the need to). I highly recommend this resort to recharge your battery and relax. It must be equally beautiful no matter what season you stay here.

The views out the windows of the lawn, lodge, reservoir, and mountains cannot be described by words (check out the pictures but you have to experience it in person to truly appreciate it . Went for a pontoon ride one day and horseback riding another. Had breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the patio: again jaw dropping views. My wife and I like to try new places but we might break that rule to go back.

- mariecK8567PB (8/5): They absoultely should do better on this issue - The accommodations were fine. It's really the beauty of the location that "sells" here- and it is beautiful. The food was really good. However, indicating there is WIFI in all rooms is extremely misleading. It simply doesn't work even in the main lodge area. This seems unimportant. However it is not if you are with a group or if there is an emergency in any part of the group. The accommodations are spread throughout and the result was, in our group, we simply couldn't get in touch with each other. The standard resort answer was "it's not our fault; walk around and you may pick up a connection- even in main lodge where they did hook me into their highest caliber WIFI. However, I suggest there are solutions and that investment should be made. Alternatively, let people know in advance that there is no WIFI and visiting groups can develop fine workaround solutions (barring medical emergency).

My complaint was a safety issue as the smoke detector had been removed from the house and the light to the deck/entrance was burned out.it was extremely cold and slipping and falling in the dark was quite possible. I had reported it to the front desk on Friday when we arrived and was assured it would be taken care of. It was not as of Sunday when we left.

My only advice to the management is to better insulate the pipes since the hot water would sometimes take up to 5 minutes to come out, especially in the morning. Also, note the sauna is only open with the spa from 9-2pm. It would have been since to hit after a long day on the mountain, but the hours are listed on the website.

We had made reservations last month for a window seat in the dining room. When we arrived, we were told that due to a large party in the dining room, we would have to be seated in the pub at a high top by the window. My husband asked about the availability of a table that was vacant by the window in the pub only to be told that it was reserved and the manager said not to give it away. Very disappointed we left. It would have been greatly appreciated if we had been notified in advance of the party in the dining room, and the only availability at our reserved dining time was in the pub at a high top. We would have rescheduled. Very poor customer service from this establishment. We will not go back to eat or stay.
- Dreamer744130 (10/5): Amazing Family Reunion at the Glorious MTR - Thank you Mike Howe and all the wonderful folks at Mountain Top Inn and Resort (MTR). This was our 9th family reunion (aka The Swarm). There were 49 of us in attendance, age range from 9 months to 88. The Mountain Top Inn and Resort was amazing! The lodge is lovely with two restaurants, beautiful views of the reservoir and areas to chill and relax. The front porch is also amazing - broad and covered. The outdoor dining area is beautiful, with wonderful wait staff, umbrellas and amazing views. There is a lovely pool area, LOTS of green space (we had an ultimate frisbee challenge), spa, horses on-site, a beach with pontoon boat, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes. It is all there for the taking. Some of our family stayed in a cabin that was right near the lodge. Cabin A was spacious, centrally located and easily accessible for the matriarch and patriarch of our crew. A few of our family stayed in the lodge and had wonderful rooms. The remaining 42 of us stayed in separate guest houses on property. We rented Rambling Brook, Wintergreen (North and South), Lakeview Lodge, Spruce Ridge, Sunrise Retreat, Fox Hollow Lower and Deer Run. All the properties were wonderful. My family stayed in Rambling Brook and it had pretty views of the sky and horse stables. Lakeview Lodge, as you would imagine, had beautiful water views and a hot tub. The other properties all had wonderful amenities. Some of the houses are close together, e.g., Rambling Brook and Wintergreen are on the same street, as are Spruce Ridge, Sunrise, Fox Hollow and Deer Run. The lodge is certainly walkable from all the houses. But, the walk back to the Spruce Ridge set of houses is a bit of a distance uphill. Have no fear, however, you can just call the lodge and they send a shuttle for you in no time. It really is walkable but just putting it out there. The beach is wonderful as well. We typically took the shuttle from the lodge as the beach is about one mile from the lodge (down hill). You can drive down to the beach. there is parking for about 10 cars or so. We typically took the shuttle and it was super easy. The MTR crew were wonderful for our two nights spent having dinner at the Beach Pavilion. They set up great places to have outdoor fires, they strung lights and set up lawn games for our enjoyment. Fortunately, our family is blessed with many musicians, so our main entertainment was singing together in a glorious setting. The hiking is wonderful. We were there in late July just after the floods. So, trails were pretty muddy - will definitely do more hiking when we go again. Finally, do not overlook the gift shop, which is located in the equestrian center. Woodstock, VT is a cute town only about 40 minutes from MTR. It is worth a day trip for sure. That said, I would have been happy not to ever leave MTR during our stay. The scenery is gorgeous, surroundings peaceful and we cannot wait to return. Just give Mike Howe a call and he will set you up for a wonderful vacation! He was wonderful to work with, responsive, flexible and anticipatory of our every need. Thank you again to Mike and the wonderful staff at MTR. Make sure you give the spa a visit - totally worth it!!!

Gorgeous views, a reservoir right next to the Green Mountain National Forest ! - I spent 5 days at the resort, often described as ‘rustic’ but in reality luxurious ! A real gem hidden in the Vermont mountains. The Inn has fabulous dining, being vegetarian that is extremely important . The cuisine did not disappoint ! Many choices, indoor or outdoor dining, or a tavern experience with craft beer ! A+ experience ! Heard my first ever loon one early a.m., and saw her and babies while on a boat ride, on Chittenden Reservoir, later that day ! A birder’s dream !
- 714elizabethk (10/5): Excellent escape from the heat! - My daughter, mother, and myself stayed here for a week. It was a delightful escape from the summer feet of our home state. We went horseback riding, Claybird shooting, hiking and boating. The guides at all these activities were very helpful and obviously love their jobs. Our room at the inn was spacious, tastefully remodeled and very clean. The food was excellent and the beds were comfortable. They even kept the bar open a little bit late so we could have a drink after we arrived in the late evening. The view from our third floor room was breathtaking. We would highly recommend this resort for a summer vacation.

We really enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub, and it was easy to stay there with our dog. Yet our accommodations, perhaps because we were traveling with our dog, left a lot to be desired given the price. We stayed in Waterside, which was basically a basement apartment that was in need of updating. If it had been about half the price, I would have been happy with it. We would go to this resort again, but would not stay in the same “guest house” for about $550 a night after resort and pet fees.

It was wonderful to start the day with a sense of calm and too-good-to-be-real views while fueling up with our morning coffees. We needed that caffeine boost to participate in all the resort has to offer: hiking, horseback riding, clay bird shooting, canoeing, and a pontoon boat ride. The food in the restaurant was delicious. Pampering was had with a visit to the spa. The facial I had was relaxing and rejuvenating.

- Indigoes (10/5): Wonderful Vacation - Absolutely beautiful! We spent 5 nights at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort for a family reunion and stayed in one of the houses on the resort property. The house was spacious and had everything we needed for our stay, including a full kitchen and washer/dryer. But it was the spectacular views and pristine landscape that took my breath away. We looked out over a wildflower field where horses grazed each evening under a backdrop of lake and mountain views. There are many activities available. I enjoyed lounging at the beach and pool while my son and husband kayaked and went clay pigeon shooting. I didn’t try the horseback riding, golf, or pontoon boat ride around the lake but I did go to the spa which was amazing! I also jumped right in on s’mores by the fire pit, yummy! The on site restaurant was delicious and we loved every meal we ordered. I would eat there even if I wasn’t staying at the Inn! We made so many beautiful memories at the Mountain Top but my favorite was when I took my morning coffee to the deck to take in the gorgeous views. It was so peaceful listening to the birds sing while scanning the sky for the resident bald eagles. And yes, there are loons in the lake we could hear from the deck! I highly recommend the Mountain Top Inn & Resort and can’t wait to go back again!

- M9291PSmarkr (8/5): Equestrian and Vermont Mountain Resort - Tons to do here. hiking, mountain biking, lake, kayak, pool. Horses ! if you are looking for a riding vacation this is one of the unique spots still left around New England. Hiking in national forest from the lodge, kayaks provided for the lake, pool, hot tub and a gym. We have repeated stays here and it gets better each visit. A hard working staff and on site restaurant makes meals convenient with outstanding views. The other side of the lake is National Forrest so you don’t see any structures. Wedding parties do happen, didn’t bother us as kept to the barn building and they shut down at a decent hour. We have stayed in the lodge and cabins before. The newer cabins are our choice now. Supplied with coffee maker(with coffee and filters), refrigerator, toaster, range top (no oven) tea pot, some real basic pots and pans and some basic utensils. We found a simple in-cabin breakfast and sitting outside with coffee an easy morning. There is brewed coffee in lower level of lodge offered too. We do 2 hour rides for 3 days each as we are experienced. Many miles of trails right at the lodge. We didn’t do the same trail twice in our 3 day ride package. English or Western, I found western a little better seat for the terrain and pace, my wife rides English saddle (read: horse husband). The guides are always consistently experienced and good, safe, really fun! (thanks Heidi, Erin, Avery). Willa makes sure everything is booked and smooth operation. Horses are very good quality from a top level ranch and matched well for the ride type or experience of rider. If you have experience, trail rides are not boring pokes. They also do kid rides right at the barn with a guide in control or also rides for brand new riders. They adjust the ride/experience for your level. A hot tub after the ride, a famous burger on the back deck, Sleep Eat Ride. We did hike and kayak, site see on some mountain roads. Bairds Maple farm is a good visit while up the mountain. Short car ride into Killington. Rutland is even closer for food or shopping.

- Culture53314161966 (10/5): Excellent Winter Wonderland Experience - My favorite winter resort. Our entire stay was delightful. I was with a group of friends in a guest house that was clean and comfortable. The kitchen allowed us space to make a meal together and enjoy each other’s company. We went to the lodge for breakfast in the morning, and friendly and helpful staff greeted us. The day was filled with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on an extensive, well-groomed trail system. On another night, we had a delicious meal at the lodge, and once again, the staff was helpful, friendly, and informative. I highly recommend the Mountain Top Inn & Resort. I have stayed at the resort on four other occasions, and whether I was there with one other person staying in the lodge or a group of people in a guest house, the experience has always been enchanting.

Most of this lodge seems to focused on weddings and events. The sauna is part of the spa closes at 2pm daily so don't plan for an after ski sauna. Also the resort fees seem a bit much when most resort activities are closed Sunday - Wednesday. Otherwise pleasant stay and the resort staff were friendly and helpful, just limited in options.

- ONETA BOBBETT (4/5): Manager horrible - My husband ,sister and I dropped off my son at college in Vermont. We wanted to mini vacation at this resort . I called to get a 2 bedroom suite . They recommended the suite we booked it . When we arrived the main hotel has beautiful views . We were told to go to our room which was 3 min drive away. I paid double the price of a room at the main hotel. The suite was part of half of the house. No view and a small spiral staircase. My husband happened to sprain his ankle earlier in the week . I went to the front desk to get another room . I even asked for a single room with two beds and would pay the price and no refund if it was less. They gave us the other half of the house which had more stairs and two twin beds on first floor. I went back to ask if they could give us a single room w 2 Queen beds . But because of a wedding we could not get it .also we could not use tge pool or jacuzzi because of the wedding. I then said we will have dinner then check out and drive home . We had driven 4 hours there and was driving now 4 hours home . We got hone at midnight. I called management the next morning. Not to get refunded but to let them know and maybe get a discount on the room we paid 500 a night plus for the 300 in the dining room . Even a future stay for the inconvenience. The male manager treated us awful. At one point I asked why he was laughing ? He eventually comped our room however with his condescending ways I will not return . The service at the restaurant was very good

We loved the screened in porch and especially our very own private hot tub. After a long hike, this was a treat. In addition, the jetted tub in the master bathroom was the best I've ever been in. The only thing we missed was not having a couples massage, or any massage for that matter, as the spa was closed due to COVID. The food was amazing and they don't skimp out on their portions. I would definitely go back!!!

Room was comfortable, although TV reception was a bit fuzzy and standard def. I mention it because it was hockey playoff season. I ended up watching the Ranger/Canadians playoff game just off the lobby. No worries though, was able to go downstairs to the bar and bring up drinks to enjoy. Staff is friendly, food is well prepared. Continental breakfast is worthy. Scenery is beautiful. Would love to spend some time up here in the Summer when you can enjoy the lake. Love the area.
- Jason (10/5): Mountain Top BLISS - We spent a weekend at Mountain Top for a wedding and besides our own is was the best wedding experience we've ever had! We stayed in the Trillium Cottage which was very spacious and clean. The beds were super comfortable and the hot tub was an added bonus on the cold nights. The cabin was just close enough to the main lodge to enjoy the restaurant/bar so if we didn't feel like driving for food/drink we didn't have to. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The wedding itself was beautiful and everything seemed to go off without a hitch. The newlyweds couldn't stop raving about how smooth everything went. I loved thus place and was so sad to leave!
