Guest Reviews
- Vera (2/5): - We stayed at Friends Lake Inn hoping for a relaxing getaway, but this visit was very disappointing. Upon arrival, the hotel was completely empty — no staff at the front desk, no note or key left for us, and no response to calls or texts. After waiting, we had no choice but to find and check ourselves into an unoccupied room.
Additionally, none of the usual amenities were available: the restaurant and bar were not operating. The next morning, a staff member admitted they had “forgotten” to leave a note, but no compensation or effort to make things right was offered.
For a hotel charging this rate, this level of service is unacceptable. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turned into a stressful experience.
- Linda (6/5): Clean, perfectly nice room, though there was no soap and no real surface for putting things on. - The breakfast was good. Noisy people outside the room in the morning and evening.
- Karen (8/5): We were up for a wedding so we never got a chance to experience the dinning and bar area of the inn. It looked lovely. - Quaint and charming Inn. Lighting in the room was very dark.
- Guest (10/5): Great place to stay and super friendly staff. Very clean and had all of the comforts of home. - Breakfast was excellent! Fresh and relaxing atmosphere. That I could not spend more time there.
- Kenton (9/5): We had an excellent stay at the Friends Lake Inn. -
- Linda (10/5): - Staff was great. The inn is unique. Perfect!
- Yaara (1/5): Worst experience I had. Choose a different place - Don’t go there. Especially not with a kid The hotel is not a 5 star hotel, maybe 2.
What you see here is misleading.
The toilets were not well flushing and were extremely tiny. There was unbearable noise coming from the karaoke at the hotels bar till around 9:30 pm so I couldn’t put my kid to sleep.
I had to leave the hotel because of it and book another one, and when I asked to pay only for the night I stayed they didn’t agree meaning I paid for a night I didn’t stay there because of the problems at the hotel. They said they cannot cancel the night because I booked it via a third party website- It has been more than a week since I left the place and still no answer from booking or from the hotel itself. Very unfair.
- Erin (10/5): - Friendly staff, room was clean, well maintained. Ate at the restaurant, food was great.
- Els (1/5): -
- Louise (8/5): - Rustic charm of the room, quiet rural location, restaurant was well-priced. We paid $300 for our night’s stay. Perhaps the breakfast wasn’t quite commensurate but we were grateful for it nonetheless.
- Nancy (10/5): - Beautiful setting. Very clean. Charming building. Friendly staff. Breakfast included.
- Guest (10/5): Friends Lake Inn is a hidden gem. - Clean and very quaint N/a
- JOYCE (4/5): - Only pro-room was clean and bed was comfortable. Place is like a ghost town, front desk always vacant with lights off.very dark, poor lighting on stairs. There is no customer service, no information about what place has to offer.
Restaurant-No chicken entree available at restaurant, no tap beer,
only decaf tea at breakfast, toaster over was very dirty. No fruit, yogurt, only plain bagel and english muffin, no variety.
Minimal staff, ice not readily available.
- Ajmal (6/5): - Breakfast was slim pickings. Stale bagels and English muffins. Staff friendly. Clean.
- Joelle (6/5): - Staff was very nice. Bed was comfortable. room was clean. 3 floors, no elevator with steep steps between 2nd and 3rd floors. Not good for heavy luggage. No extra toilet paper (just the roll on the holder) or soap 1 bar for 2 pedestal sinks. Rather drab and dated.
- William (8/5): - Very nice location. Would have enjoyed more activity like hiking or a pool or something on site. But it met our requirements for a beautiful place to stay with good food
- J Daniel (4/5): - The property is in the middle of nowhere. Not convenient to anything close like restaurants or shopping. They were very short staffed. Little things, like the tv not working, breakfast starting 20 minutes late, restaurant out of chicken dishes, food (except the brownie sundae) was ok at best. Would not stay there again. Very expensive for a marginal experience. And don’t let Friends Lake Inn make you think it is on the water. You can just barely see a lake from second story.
- Lisa (7/5): Not what I expected - There is a lot of potential for the property to be beautiful. There was a shovel left in the middle of the walkway and a rock rake in the driveway. Housekeeping wasn’t very good.
- Jude (10/5): - We visited the Inn hotel to celebrate my husband’s birthday and take a much-needed break from my role as a caregiver for my mother. The weekend turned out to be exactly what we needed—it gave us the chance to unplug, recharge, and truly rest.
The staff were friendly, accommodating, and just lovely throughout our stay. The level of service we received far exceeded what you’d typically expect from a chain hotel. We were very pleased with every aspect of our experience and are so grateful for the care and attention that made our time there feel so special.
- Michelle (9/5): What a great relaxing getaway - The staff are lovely the rooms are so sweet The outdoor space could be more inviting
- Anita (5/5): Wedding weekend - Clean
Staff were helpful Very poor cell phone reception
No elevator
Outside was poorly maintained
Sauna was non functional
Overpriced for the area
We were rushed through the wedding reception meal and cake
- Moira (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sung-Hee (4/5): - I only saw staff on the day I arrived and the day I left. There was no staff around while I was there. They didn’t tell me that there wasn’t any staff available or that there would only be “continental breakfast”. I was depending on the restaurant being open during my stay but I learned that the restaurant was closed when I went down to try and get some dinner.
I had wanted to cut my stay there short but no one was there. When I told the front desk of my disappointment, all she said was “I’m sorry” and didn’t really try to make amends.
This place had wonderful memories for me. I returned to this inn after a very long
- Susan (10/5): - Quiet, comfortable bed, very clean. Decorated nicely, very cozy feeling. Nice continental breakfast in bright cheery sunroom. Great hiking nearby. Staff responsive to questions and had good recommendations for dining and hiking. Very responsive via text prior to stay even had hiking trail directions printed out for us prior to our arrival.
Overall very enjoyable stay. Everything was perfect!
- Evgeny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tsotne (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): - Location
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone and everything about this place warms my heart!
Betty is the BEST!
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): - Quiet lodging and friendly staff
- Andrew (10/5): - Great room, very nice staff. Nice weekend getaway.
- Shawn (6/5): - Breakfast was supposed to be included. They changed without telling us in advance that it was Continental this week.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krista Leigh (2/5): - Our room at Friends Lake Inn had some kind of fungus growing on the wood floor outside of the the shower door. There were moths in the room and overall, the room was dirty.
When we arrived (at about 4pm) there was no one at the front desk, just an envelope with our name on it. The security code for our room was in the envelope.
The manager drove to the Inn and was very sweet and apologetic and refunded our stay. It's possible they have other updated rooms.
- John (6/5): Was able to get an excellent meal in town. Breakfast staff good - Check the availability of the bar and restaurant when booking. Unknown to us these were not available because of a wedding reception. We were not told about this.
- Ann (10/5): Relaxing,clean,nicely decorated. Highly recommend -
- Saeed (8/5): Very good -
- Gerald (8/5): Area past prime. Hotel staff made A good effort but not easy for someone handicapped - Beautiful dinning room. Good breakfast room Dinner very expensive and not good. Breakfast not good
- Itzhak (3/5): Very dissapointing. - First, I would like to thank the two representatives at the reception for their kindness and assistance. We have no complaints regarding their service we were quite disappointed with several aspects of our reservations.
Primarily, the room we were assigned to did not have a view of the lake as depicted in the photos.
Additionally, the room had a very unpleasant smell.
The owner delcined our request for the deposit refund eventhough we were in the property for 10 minutes
- Keri A. (6/5): - This hotel is beautiful, old style Adirondacks with cute rooms and great dining. While it is charming, the bed at least in the room I had was a springboard type of mattress you’d find at a koa camp. For the price to stay there I was shocked with it being one of the most uncomfortable sleeps I’ve gotten at any hotel and I travel a lot. Beds are an important piece to me. Aside from the super uncomfortable bed, the place was really nice. They didn’t skip on any Adirondack decor, the food for dinner and breakfast were superb and the people working there from the front desk, wait staff, and bar tender were top notch excellent. The bathroom and items they supplied were phenomenal as well. But truthfully as ideal of a cozy all Adirondack charming place as this is, I won’t return unless they upgrade their mattresses. If they do then I’d be back in a heartbeat!
- David (8/5): Just come for the meals, all the rest falls in place. Great stay! - Quaint location, lovely surroundings. Fantastic meals! Great dinner and breakfast! Charging outlets in rooms far from bed. No water in the rooms.
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were so friendly and accommodating!
- Sophia (7/5): Good -
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Marchand (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was great. The gal working that morning was very helpful and personable
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (7/5): Nice place to stay. - Great setting, front desk service was great. Super clean and comfy beds. We waited 45 minutes for the included breakfast (sausage egg and cheese sandwich) and a mandatory 20% was added to the bill. We never got the sandwiches because we had to leave.
- Ann (8/5): Very good - it would have been better if the restaurant was open for dinner.
- Colon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dragan (7/5): Good - The staff and the original furniture in the dining room. The surrounding grounds are not as nicely kept as I would expect. The hallways need some refurbishing. Way too expensive for the look and feel of the place. I did not get any on the 'luxurious'' as indicated by some other reviewers.
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- Edward (8/5): Pleasant stay in an interesting and historic facility. -
- Stephen (10/5): Absolutely beautiful place and would stay again! -
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was very good. staff was vary good Restaurant was closed due to mechanical problem, and we were not notified. There was no pool or lake access. rec room was closed for floor drying. room only had one chair and no table
- Rochelle (9/5): Great friendly staff nice stay look forward to booking again!!! - secluded, nice. n/a
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alice (9/5): lovely location. - The location and design of the property.
Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Slightly expensive.
A little noisy due to a wedding party.
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laurie (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): we attended a surprise birthday party cooked by the inn for 24 people. everything was dine perfectly -
- Adam (9/5): Great location for a stay over while riding my motorcycle through the mountains. - The view, the food, the building - both room and other parts. My neighbor started talking at 6 am and did not stop until 7
- Mariclare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ed (10/5): Great - The service and rooms were very nice definitely will be staying again There was nothing not to like place was excellent
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mattucci (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (8/5): Very good - - Staff very friendly and welcoming
- The bed was very very comfortable!
- Bar/informal dining area
- Beautiful walk at the back of the property with shoeshoes available if needed.
- Breakfast was lovely although not very warm- would recommend the pumpkin pancakes. - The walls are extremely thin? We could hear everything from the room next door including someone snoring the entire night.
- Tranquility room is advertised on the website although does not state that it is at an additional cost. I would have thought the price of the stay to be better value had this have been included.
- Denise (6/5): - The food was made to order and very good prices were fair.
The cost to stay there is overpriced.
- Tammy (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was great. Did not like the noise from the road. The lake is beautiful but I thought it would be closer to the inn.
- Dave (8/5): - Stay was off season, mid week. Quiet, Dove room was nice and cozy. Bed comfortable and warm. Breakfast offered in the am, staff friendly and helpful.
Yeah nice…
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julio (9/5): Lovely spot in the Adirondacks. - Beautiful old house that has been maintained and added to in some parts to make a cozy inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a walk in the woods on a trail behind the property. At dinner as well as in breakfast some of the food was barely warm when it should have been hot. To be honest, we did not complain to the staff about it.
- John (10/5): - The inn’s waitstaff, Allison and Kim, were amazing! They were so welcoming and treated us more like a treasured friend than a customer.
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful room,Awesome porch, friendly staff, and delicious food! - Beautiful location and great food! N/A
- Andrew (10/5): It was my first trip away since my best friend and my wife of 46 years I felt blessed to be with yu -
- Jordana (10/5): - We had a great time at Friends Lake Inn. We'll definitely be back.
- Scott (10/5): - Staff was very helpful and friendly
- Dan (7/5): Good - Breakfasts were great! King size bed, room phone, quieter air conditioner. Given that, despite all the other positives, the room was overpriced.
- MATTHEW (10/5): - Very peaceful, clean, and friendly place. Great food also.
- Tracey (9/5): Superb -
- Yuval (8/5): I don’t know 🤷♀️ - People who work in the hotel were very nice
And helpful.
The bed room was very good.
Breakfast was very good. The restaurant only works in the weekends.
The hotel is very isolated, and there is nothing to
Do in the area.
It is feeling like the place had better days.
- Leslie (9/5): Very enjoyable stay, hotel is lovely, staff very friendly and rooms updated and unique. - Terrific breakfast! The variety of decor of the rooms, beautifully done. Next time will ask for a larger room with fireplace. We missed dinner, it was an off day.
- jessica (10/5): - .
- marion (10/5): - Lovely rooms
- Lisa (10/5): - The property was beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. We enjoyed the grounds and the delicious breakfast each morning. The staff was amazing…friendly and very helpful!
- Michele (10/5): Diamond in the rough - Top notch in every respect! I was treated like a queen and fed like a king!
- Shannell (10/5): - We enjoyed everything about the property, especially the sauna. Staff is amazing especially Nicole, very vibrant and lively. Will definitely be back again.
- Jaime (10/5): Winter Wonderland! - The place was amazing!
Very convenient for going to the Gore Mountain and super comfortable.
I went to their snowshoe trails and had great time.
The food is delicious - specially the home made ketchup!!
- Sean (10/5): - A charming, gracious, exemplary country inn. Kind, welcoming, attentive, professional staff. The steam shower was so appreciated after a day of skiing. The restaurant top notch.
- Fred (10/5): - Lovely inn. Clean well kept. Staff was very friendly but not overbearing. The restaurant was excellent as well for both dinner and breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great get-away in the mountains - Nice place! Nice people!
- John (6/5): Nice Inn, missed the oatmeal - We've stayed at the Friends Lake Inn before we because we enjoy the quality of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff, and the deliciousness of the breakfast offerings. In our most recent visit, the breakfast menu lacked oatmeal. To be honest, it might sound funny, but the lack of the oatmeal made this experience less fun than the other time we came.
- Jean (10/5): - We checked in late because unfortunately we had a flat tire. However, as soon as we got here the staff was extremely understanding and accommodating. They offered us a menu and we placed our dinner order while we unwind and settled into our room. Our room was amazing!! Dinner and cocktails were also amazing.
- Thomas (4/5): - This is a B&B with few of the amenities one might expect of an Inn or hotel, as the site is listed
- karlan (10/5): All it's cracked up to be - We arrived at 7:30pm and their dining room was closed that evening. Since it's quite remote we were worried about finding a place to eat. Becky at the front desk was very prepared and provided a list of places to eat within 5 minutes that she had already confirmed were open and that she recommended. We enjoyed a fantastic local meal.
- John P (8/5): - Actually not on Friends Lake. Cannot even see Friends Lske from the property. Nonetheless a beautiful historic setting. We were the ONLY residents in a large facility. Yet, they still served us a delicious breakfast.
- Mark (10/5): Great stay! - We had a great stay at Friends Lake Inn- excellent environment, food, drink, staff.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - So peaceful and relaxing. My room was so clean! The staff was so nice! And the food was delicious!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent!! Everything we hoped for!
