Guest Reviews
Nichts

- Daoud (7/5): I’m coming soon to visit my son and I hope to see a better service 🙏 - Staff very helpful Not very fast service and to many regulations that made me feel uncomfortable
- Katharina (6/5): -
- Mhairi (9/5): Would recommend - One thing that was excellent was the shower! It had lots of pressure which most hotels don’t have. The bath was also very good with plenty of hot water. Couldn’t fault the breakfast and very friendly staff. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed our stay. We felt with the one evening meal that we had that the quality of the meat could have been better. My husband and lamb and I had a steak. Didn’t encourage us to go back for our second night.
- Julie (10/5): Only one night but it was lovely - Lovely hotel with staff so helpful Nothing apart from they should add a spa
- Fitzpatrick (10/5): -
- Lee (9/5): Memorable stay, one of the best hotel rooms we have started in, great building, food and staff. - Fantastic history, great location and room was fantastic (Exclusive). Great breakfast and loved the fact students are allowed to train here. Only downside was we could hear other people in the room next to ours.
- Gary Clarke (9/5): -
- James (5/5): Menu for the brasserie very dated and needs updating as same for so long - Love the building and location, staff very helpful too Hadn’t been properly cleaned, very dirty and dusty which at the level of charges was disappointing tbh
- Gemma (10/5): -
- Maithilee Sharad (8/5): -
- Brendan (10/5): Perfect again as always - A beautiful location, excellent staff, rooms and food
- Heather (9/5): Very comfortable, good service - Good All good
- Jeannette (10/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): Country break at Wivenhoe House Hotel, Colchester. - We liked the location, the staff were very accommodating, efficient & friendly. The food was plentiful hot & lovely (probably the best I’ve had in an English hotel 🏨)! Our room (superior balcony) was lovely too! Nothing really it was all very good :).
Personally I refer memory foam pillows for good neck support. I mentioned to reception who said he would inform management.
- Rhonda (10/5): - The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The room was, crisp, classy and clean (we loved having a bath in the bathroom). And the food was delicious. It's the best hotel we've stayed in for a long time! That we had to go home
- BORA (8/5): -
- Matt (9/5): Lovely - Location
- valentina (9/5): -
- Berna (8/5): -
- Marc (6/5): A lovely venue but more attention to detail required. - The staff were great, very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good although the toaster in use did not work properly. One slot burnt one side of the bread despite the staff adjusting the toaster. I would suggest having two toasters that work properly. The normal toaster had been moved for an event happening elsewhere in the hotel. The room we had was the Boudicca Suite which was more costly than most of the other rooms. I was dissapointed that theere were dead bugs on the window sill adjacent to the bed and the window in the bathroom was not clean. There was also quite an unsightly stain on the small couch at the end of the bed. I also noted that the doors on the room, which are fire doors, had a significant gap at the bottom which let in the light from the hallway. The only other thing was that the curtains in the bay window were not fitted to the rail properly and drooped. Better attention to maintenance and cleaning would have made the room feel like it was worth the money.
- Miss Sydney (10/5): - Beautiful grounds, room was absolutely massive we stayed in the Hilton suite.
Food at the brassie was amazing - best burger ever. The only tiny thing was the chrome cast didn’t work in the room, so tv options were limited but nothing that affected our stay.
- Ronny (6/5): - Ruhige Lage, gutes Essen. Parkplätze sind vorhanden. Leider war es nicht möglich, mit Bargeld zu bezahlen. Die Preise für die Zimmer und die Übernachtungskosten für ein Haustier sind recht hoch.
- Marcel (9/5): Heerlijk verblijf @Wivenhoe😀👍 - Prachtig, in country side, gelegen hotel. Prima faciliteiten. Mooi tuinen.
- Mark (8/5): - Beautiful setting Not enough bar staff. Barman was too busy and over run with orders
- Ashley (7/5): Enjoyable trip away for celebration. - Lovely room and food Little quite in the evening after dinner
- Susan (10/5): - Very welcoming staff members great location and great facilities Nothing everything was great
- Sarah (10/5): - My siblings & I, regular visitors to Wivenhoe, Alresford, Colchester, live Wivenhoe house. We have attended family weddings there and stayed often when home visiting family. This occasion was for a funeral. A number of us stayed and each said the same, beautiful property, rooms, grounds & food and your staff were so helpful, considerate & kind while demonstrating complete professionalism and excellent customer service. Thank you Lived everything, hated leaving!!
- Charlie (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional stay at Wivenhoe - Everything, the staff were lovely, the food was amazing, the hotel is great. We'd definitely stay again! n/a
- Ian (9/5): Beautiful and historic hotel with exceptional staff. - Everything was excellent especially the staff who were engaged, extremely helpful and friendly. A great atmosphere all round. We were very impressed with the location, the rooms and the restaurant. Our only vague dislike was the hot buffet breakfast, but easily compensated by ordering from the kitchen where breakfast was fantastic!
- Linda (10/5): Had a great, relaxing stay - staff brilliant and great food - what’s not to love! - Location was brilliant - lots of footpaths and amazing walks available from the hotel.
Breakfast and evening meals were great! No baths
- Mark (10/5): - Hotel was amazing and stuff were really polite and helpful. Location and facilities
- Cheryl (8/5): Stay at the University of Essex - The room was in the old part of the house on the fourth floor. It was comfortable but the bed was not king size and the mattress was rather uncomfortable. The fridge in the room was appreciated.
Breakfast was good and the restaurant was quiet in the morning which was great. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The sink in the bathroom was rather small and the toilet seemed very low down.
- Hannah (10/5): - Comfortable stay with friendly attentive staff
- allan (9/5): Long weekend dtay - The view from the balcony over the playing fields. The 9.30 am finish for breakfast on the weekdays. Too much reliance on the breakfast buffet style.
- victoria (10/5): -
- Ruth (8/5): - Lovely spacious and clean room, if only I had chance to use the balcony. Good food and friendly staff It was slightly further out than anticipated with a detour around the campus
- Pippa (7/5): -
- Torti (10/5): - We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Checking in was effortless, thanks to Nola - she was warm, genuine, and incredibly helpful. A real pleasure to interact with.
The facility itself is beautifully maintained, with a fascinating history and lovely surroundings that make it a joy to explore and relax in. It truly felt like a dream to spend time there with my wife and daughter.
Hanna (I hope I’ve got her name right) was equally helpful during check-out - always attentive and ready to assist; very kind.
Room service and food were fantastic throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Colchester. Nothing
- James (10/5): - Always pleasant staff and beautiful surroundings!
- Snjezana (9/5): -
- Benjamin (9/5): Excellent - It was a very lovely place with history behind it. The Queen was there in 85 and Nelson Mandela too has visited the Wivenhoe House Hotel. Please extend the breakfast time till 11am. Tasty food. I had to wake up earlier than usual to make it
- Sina (9/5): -
- Karl Napf (8/5): - Excellent service with friendly and helpful staff. Superb breakfast and housekeeping. The ventilation units on the neighbouring roof were quite loud, se we could only sleep with earplugs. The beds were quite soft and appeared past their peak.
- 54eccb03af5f738c22fa62493c1c9cc2 (10/5): Would be happy to return - Breakfast fine..
The staff were unfailingly pleasant and efficient.
- 59da0d2568d572c860d8fe15bf2d696c (10/5): Fabulous place for a relaxing stay with warm and friendly service. - It was a delightful restful place to stay. We were visiting our son at the Uni of Essex before a long flight home to Australia. Perfect for this. Facilities great and staff superb. Special mention to Mo and Bev in the Brasserie for their warmth and friendliness. They made us feel most welcome. Food was also delicious. This was a return trip and just as good as the first. Nothing! It was fabulous.

- 989d521ed18873103bba856518b03b79 (7/5): - Le bruit soir de mariage
- lee (3/5): Terrible communication - Location
Restaurant and food They messed up our booking (luxuary suite) - I emailed in advance booking our dog and requirements (bath, extra bed for 2year old and no balcony). We ended up in disabled room with balcony, no extra bed and no bath.
2nd night there was a wedding on below us which we hadn’t been notified about so at 8pm we through the towel in and left for home.
I didn’t have to pay for the 2nd night and manager apologised but all in it was a poor show.
Disappointing and no follow up. Obviously we wouldn’t stay here again.

- Nicola (9/5): -
- Godfrey (10/5): - Everyone was very helpfull and friendly The bar area wish it was a bit bigger to sit in
- Jonathan (10/5): An exceptional stay in a luxurious hotel that holds many happy memories for us. - We stayed at Wivenhoe House to celebrate an anniversary - we met at Essex University in the 1980s. We subsequently had our wedding party at Wivenhoe House in 1995. The house has been restored and extended since then and it is now much more luxurious. We stayed in the beautiful Exclusive suite in the original part of the hotel.
The room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. It has a large, very comfortable bed, a settee, dining table and a huge ensuite bathroom with walk in shower and roll top bath.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and helped make our stay very enjoyable. The lovely grounds of the university were very familiar to us and looked great in the early spring sunshine. Nothing, all was great.
- Nicola (8/5): Pleasant and clean - Nice balcony room. Breakfast barely warm. Bought out hot foods separately.
- Zoey Seaton (9/5): - The room was lovely & spacious. Beautiful view from balcony, grounds are amazing. Comfy beds Tv & remote didnt work

- Otsile (10/5): -
- Tracy (9/5): -
- Rhiannon (5/5): Nice hotel but slightly dated and room service and other standards aren't up to scratch for what I expected. - The location was useful and the room was incredibly spacious. I liked that the rooms had multiple pillows, tea making facilities and lots of bathroom amenities. I also liked the AI app for ordering room service. The room felt like it wasn't completely clean in places and looked like it needed maintenance (particularly on the shutters in the bathroom). I ordered room service and it took 1 hour 15 minutes and when it arrived, the chips weren't even properly cooked so some were inedible. I had to chase multiple times asking where my dinner was and I wasn't given any apology about how long it was taking.
I also found that when I was checking in, there were other guests information forms left very visibly out on the reception desk and they were close enough for me to read guests information including their address, email and phone number. This is a big data breach issue.
When I checked in as a sole female traveller, the person checking me in quite loudly told me the name of my room. Luckily there weren't many people around but as somebody on my own, I would've preferred not to have my room location so loudly announced.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Nancy (10/5): Excellent staff and delicious food. - Extremely helpful staff and delicious food. Beautiful location. The restaurant food is amazing but the ambiance in the room itself is quite basic.
