Guest Reviews
- Chris (9/5): Superb - This is the second year staying in the Kaleshen Hotel and it is a great little hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast isn't the most comprehensive but sets you up nicely for a day out hiking. The pool, the only one in El Chalten (I believe), is a very, very welcome addition especially after days in the mountains hiking and camping.
- Francesco (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (7/5): Great location, lots of conveniences for the price. Be aware of the heater adustment! - Convenient having breakfast given that you are up early for some of the hikes in the area. The breakfast was repetative self-serve style, but ample and adequate. Staff was very friendly and helpful in providing advice. Rooms and facility were clean. Location is great for accessing trailhead and restaurants, groceries etc. We used the pool and sauna. The knob to adjust the heater/radiator in our room was broken, so the room was incredibly and uncomfortably hot. We were on the main floor so couldn't really leave the windows open at night or when we were out. We did ask for it to be fixed but front desk staff were kept busy and didn't make it down to us.
- Louis (8/5): Very good -
- Ausra (9/5): Superb - Extremely nice bc and helpful staff, pool, close to trekking, meat soup at the restaurant:) The building is not new, so some parts are waiting for repairs.
- Larissa (8/5): Very good -
- Katharine (7/5): Did the job. - A basic hotel in the centre of the town. The bedding and towels were definitely very old with some questionable marks on them but the room itself was fine.
- Louise (10/5): Excellent staff, location & rooms - Fantastic staff who help you plan the best treks around the weather 🤩. Great location, clean and comfortable. Will stay again . Thankyou ☺️
- Akhilesh (6/5): Overall our stay served the purpose. We were out and about and utilized the services to sleep - The property is located off the main street and close to the park enterance Bathroom tub wasnt draining well, outdated amenities, sporty wifi
- Gregor (7/5): Good -
- Natalia (5/5): Too expensive for what you get - We stayed in the apartments. They are very basic, and very old and not working properly. The kitchenette does not count with everything needed for cooking. Not even the basic. Overall there was a lack of cleanliness.
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were great. My room was a little cold at night as the radiator didn't come on.
- Rayne (8/5): Great location and cheap place to stay, as long as you aren’t expecting a 5 star resort it was good - Great location, friendly staff, being able to leave luggage before we checked in was also very nice! Sauna and pool were nice too The beds all being in 1 room, very outdated interior, cleaning products smelt very strong like ammonia when we entered the room and had to be aired out, doors don’t latch fully so if you have window open the windows open the doors slam closed due to not a tight latch which was very annoying all night
- Ana (9/5): Overall good experience - Staff was super friendly and helpful and the place was very good. The rooms were not very clean. I looked under the bed and it was very gross, it feel that they hadnt cleaned it in months
- Ivana (10/5): Excellent place, would come again. - This place may not be new,but it was very cozy&comfy, really clean and located both close to the National Park Entrance as well as on the main street, making our stay very good. Beds are comfy, there is daily cleaning and the staff was Nice. And the warm pool! I would come back anytime.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - A great swimming pool Breakfast just ok.
Hooks to hang towels would be useful
- Thomas (5/5): Passable -
- Abigail (3/5): Smelly and dirty - The location was good, but it's a small town so nearly all hotels are in a good location. The room was incredibly dirty. The walls had mold on them, the shower was gross, the sink in the main living area drained to open sewage so the whole place reeked of sewage. Also, none of the doors worked. The main door stuck on the floor and the bathroom door hit the toilet.
- Hik999 (5/5): Stench of sewage - Location, swiming pool Room 206 - horrible smell from the sewage system, no siphons in the sink(is it even legal?), clogging it didn't help, the stench came from every drain, from the shower, toilet, bidet. The lady from the receptionist ran away immediately after showing us to the room, I suspect that all the rooms on the floor have the same problem. The stench completely ruined the stay.
- mcf360 (4/5): Seen better days - We were booked into this hotel by our travel agent when the preferred hotel was not available. Decor outdated. Beds uncomfortable, linen stained and towels so thin they were torn. Not that clean. Breakfast poor.
Location ok and reception staff reasonably helpful- we were put off eating dinner or using the pool /sauna so can't comment
- Sandeep (3/5): Passable if you can. - Good very warm pool, good for the location. Location of the apartment. Very poor and ill equipped kitchen.
- Amy (4/5): Disappointing -
- Anuwi (7/5): Good - Nice location, close to the entrance to to National Park, hot water, well working central heating, comfortable beds The sewage system was stinking badly so we had to cover every single "hole" (sink, shower, etc), the kitchen itself as well as the equipment there was poor and in poor condition. Wifi very weak (we stayed in the wing of the main building)
- Petr (7/5): Good -
- Yani (8/5): Very good - Nice and comfy hotel Expensive like everything in El Chalten unfortunately
- Alejandro (7/5): Excellent location and staff, good for its price - Excellent location and staff Bathroom was small and poorly maintained. The staff did send a repairman in a timely fashion.
- Dagmara (6/5): Pleasant - Wonderful people!
- Yumi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alyson (4/5): Poor quality and even worse breakfast! - The location was good for going on the hike in the national park. The place wasn't that clean. there were stains on the bedding! The place was very tiered and in need of some TLC. We tried the sauna which was freezing... it was warmer outside the sauna!
The breakfast was terrible.... the worst I've ever encountered!
- Anita (6/5): Pleasant - Great location The apartment is quite old and needs maintenance, the equipment to cook at home was minimal and there's no WiFi unless you go to the reception area.
- Frida (7/5): Good - Good location near the treks.
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chloe (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly staff Bad breakfast - the only eggs they have are grated?
The pool smells bad and the sauna does not work
Our room was unbearably hot and there are no fans to cool it down
- Kersti (8/5): Perfect place to start your hiking. -
- Gunnar (10/5): Excellent value; very responsive staff and swimming pool / sauna @ very reasonable cost - 1. Location was good
2. Staff were super friendly / responsive
3. Swimming pool / sauna was relaxing and good
4. Room was very good, bed / bathroom / views
5. Breakfast included (basic)
6. Several spaces to sit and relax Nothing
- Johanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (5/5): Spacious, smelly, and underfurnished. - Good location - easy to walk to everything in El Chaltén. Pretty decent price for the "apartment" accomodations, which had plenty of room to organize hiking gear. The 24h staffing was very convenient for our crazy travel schedule. The bathroom smelled pretty bad for our entire stay. If we ever left the door open, the whole apartment would smell. The apartment was scantily furnished, with a TV that didn't plug in (it used a Chilean plug??), a small couch and table that didn't fill the space, and a barebones cooking setup. Wind caused the front door and bathroom door to make sporadic banging sounds throughout the night. The beds were uncomfortable.
- Liliya (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (8/5): Very good -
- Jonetta (9/5): Superb -
- Aeolyn (8/5): Nice place in a nice location - The location was very convenient and the facilities were nice. The room was quite hot, but we did manage to get a staff member to turn the heating off for us. Unfortunately this meant we no longer had hot water.
- Christy (3/5): Worn. Dirty. Cheap. - Dirty. Stains on sheets. Old stained towels. Ran out of toilet paper. Hard to find.
- Chris (2/5): Hotel rooms may have been ok but wouldn’t stay in the apartment 204 again. - The location, El Chalten is amazing no matter where you stay in the town as you are close to hikes and beautiful views. The kids liked the pool. We stayed in an apartment with a double bed and a double bunk. It had a 2 seater couch but it only had a cushion on one of the seats, the shower didn’t work properly for a few days. The pillows were coming apart and the soap dispensers did not really work. We also planned to cook in the apartment but there was a small electric stove which didn’t heat up enough to really cook anything and there was not enough bowls and plates.
- Dariusz (8/5): Very good - Very nice and helpful personnel. The place is quite old and needs some renovation but it is a good place to stay in El.Chalten.
- Natasha (7/5): Bit shabby but great location. - Location was perfect. Right next to the main street and close to trails. Helpful reception staff. Nice clean pool and sauna. No gym as described on booking.com. Rooms were very dark and a bit shabby. Had to wash all the kitchen equipment before using. Cheapest plastic toilet seat, borderline foam. Marks on sheets, bad pillows. Intermittent WiFi although not unusual for the area. Wouldn't book again.
- Ailish (7/5): Good - Clean simply furnished apartment. Staff very helpful Kitchen facilities were poor
- Alana (4/5): Disappointing - Staff and location are good Place needs to start reinvesting profits into its upkeep. Facilities are in a complete state of disrepair and are currently non existent. Bed sheets had holes in them and we're badly discoloured - Needs replaced. Electrical sockets unusable- cannot hold a local plug, if you want to charge something you need to do it in a reception area or cafe. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillow was pathetic again needs replacing. Radiator stuck in the on position, unable to be turned off, staff said they would note this for maintenance but I highly doubt anything will be done, they immediately took a pair of plyers to the room to try to turn of the radiator but was unsuccessful. This hotel looks nice in pictures and has the potential to be great but it is clear they have not spent any money here in many years. Also note there is no kettle in the room, the only way to get hot water for a cup of tea is in their onsite restaurant at an EXTRA CHARGE. Not good enough at this price you do more and better facilities in a cheap hostel locally.
- Stefanie (10/5): Great location, wonderful staff. Good for families, too. - The staff was amazing, wonderful service. Food was good. Pool was a treat, sauna was nice. Located very close to major trails. Close to a number of restaurants and shops. Meme's and Bandidos were great eateries.
- Teja (6/5): Pleasant - Nice location No WiFi in rooms, no refrigerator.
- Thelma (7/5): Great location and space and warmth in the apartments. - Great value for money. Breakfast was good but expensive for what you get. Shower was cold in the evenings.
- Jonathan (6/5): Adequate but won't stay again - The bed was moderately comfortable is about the only positive thing I can say. Parking was free and available right in front of the room door. I tried to like this place, but it was difficult. Let's see--at check in, I was told my room did not include breakfast despite the mention of breakfast on Booking and the many photos of the breakfast buffet. None of the room types on Booking mention breakfast, by the way. The next morning, I went to eat breakfast and no one asked me about my room number or name and I was not charged extra, so that was weird. Next, the wifi was SO slow and with spotty service in the room; I understand the town of Chalten now has fiber internet from Calafate so not sure why it's still so slow. There were about 4 different wifi networks for the property which probably were not configured in an efficient manner and my device kept jumping between them. The kitchen furnishings were extremely basic--think camp stove and furnishings rather than what you'd expect in an "apartment." Lastly, both the pool temperature and sauna temperature were both lukewarm and not very enjoyable. I will seek a different accommodation in El Chalten next time.
- Rachelle (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): It's very good but wouldn't take much to make it great. - We booked two rooms at this hotel. Both were large and spacious but plain. The bathroom was a reasonable size, though my friends room smelt badly of sewage. The rooms were warm, maybe a bit too hot, but we were able to get the heating turned down. Furnishing was on the sparse side but this did not bother us as we out most of the time.
The receptionists were friendly. The indoor pool was very good and you could pick up a towel from reception at no extra cost. There was also a sauna but it never got very hot.
Wifi is an issue in the whole town but we did not experience too many problems with this at the hotel and we able to pay with a card.
It's in a good location for everything. The buffet breakfast could be better but it was okay.
A drying rack would have been useful as this is an area for walkers who need to clean their clothes.
There is a US$ fine for losing your room card, which I find ridiculous for a piece of plastic. You should hand your key card in each time you go out, but on one occasion I had to wait 15 minutes to get it back as nobody was on reception. This may have been an exception though.
- Elena (9/5): Superb - Staff very friendly, self service breakfast with good variety of food, swimming pool included Poor WiFi in the bedroom
- Brianna (10/5): Loved it! - Juliette was amazing! Every question we had she answered! Even how to say "happy Halloween" in Spanish. Accidently broke a glass and instead of charging us she gave us first aid supplies! The room was clean, the bed was comfy, and the heater worked well (almost too well sometimes!!). We were super close to the start of the Fitz Roy hike so it made starting an early morning hike much easier. The cleaning staff was super too! We would 100% stay here again and because we stayed during the week as opposed to the weekend, the rate was much cheaper! We liked the breakfast, simple but did the job and the staff manning it was kind. We saw the pool and saw many people enjoy it but we did not use it ourselves. The room was large and decorated with wooden furniture. The windows had good views too. That we couldn't stay longer :)
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (7/5): Good - Good location to hiking and food in town Bed and pillows not very comfortable
No duvet cover so feathers were poking through
Wifi did not work great
- Edgar (9/5): Good - The restaurant and the attention by the staff The tv did not work
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - Loved this property and its location to all restaurants and walks. It was clean and with a great vibe. The pool is lovely, and breakfast is simple but good.
- Asaf (9/5): Superb - Great heated pool, great stuff, an excelent price for young couples. The breakfast was too basic.
- Chris (9/5): Excellent location, very helpful staff and the swimming pool was an added bonus. -
- Theo (7/5): Good deal! - Good quality for the price. Don't expect anything fancy, just a good bed and a reasonable shower Breakfast could be better
- Shaun (8/5): Very nice place with friendly, helpful staff - Very helpful and friendly staff. Pool and sauna were nice. Very clean. Sauna didn't get very hot.
- Patrick (6/5): Pleasant - Great location in the centre of town
Spacious room
Friendly staff No heating controls in room - had to get staff to make any changes needed. Not very practical when the weather is constantly changing. Also, the radiator in our room was leaking when turned off.
Bed was very creaky, although generally we slept quite well.
Very loud in the room from corridors and neighbouring rooms - little to no sound insulation.
Breakfast was not great - poor enough selection and not great quality. Would expect more from a hiking town (should provide more sustainance for a day hiking) - no whole fruit, no yoghurt, eggs was just a small basket of shredded hard boiled eggs
- Marianna (2/5): Leaky ceiling and bad heating - The option for late check in When we arrived it was raining, which I guess is not a rare phenomenon for village in the mountains. The ceiling of our apartment was leaking and we had to use a bucket to collect the water for the first night. The heating was just enough to survive with your jacket on. We had to go to bed with our heaviest clothes just to make it through a few hours of sleep. The sink has no hot water, the shower was just about to fall apart and generally the whole experience was so so exhausting. We went there to do a hike and rented a place so we have somewhere to rest for one night but it was impossible under these circumstances. I've been camping in the nature with more comfort than what was provided there. Even for a basic stay it was absolutely not worth the money. I would happily pay double to be in a decent place with heating where I can take a shower and not have the ceiling leaking.
- Melanie (8/5): Hotel in El Chalten - Really enjoyed the warm pool! Beds were comfortable. Kitchen in the apartment had everything we needed. Room was clean. Hotel could use some maintenance. The sink dripped, there were some broken floor tiles, the bedside lamp would only turn on if plug was oriented just so, etc.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Witold (7/5): Good value for money, clean, comfortable and helpful staff but don't take the breakfast. - Rooms are good value for money. Clean and have what you need. Helpful staff. Breakfast was not good. We chose to eat somewhere else the second day of our stay. The sauna also does not really qualify as a sauna. It is a shed with a heater that can barely heat it hotter than your room.
Losing your key will cost you $100.
- Sue (10/5): Good value in central location - brilliant, central location. large room, lovely staff and good (cold foods) breakfast. for pricey El Chalten we found this place really good value for money in an exception central location
- Stefania (10/5): Great value - Very good value/quality especially for accommodations in Chalten. I have stayed in many. And this one is the best of its kind.
- Craig (8/5): Nice motel horrible bed - Everything is as great but horrible bed Horrible bed
- Tracy (7/5): Great to unwind in pool after hiking. Clean and comfortable expect too hot in room - Fabulous warm pool and sauna, nice staff, nice big barhroom comfortable bed but too hot and some noise from outside Too hot in room
- Geunhee (8/5): Very good -
- Bm (10/5): Great experience - The room was clean. Bathrooms are clean.
- Laura (6/5): Wifi not working and old fashioned hotel - Staff was helpful
Location is good to start the trekking Old- fashioned Hotel
Wifi not working in the room ( and our room was very close to the reception desk)
Breakfast is served by the next door bar - they don't prepare any food if you leave early for the trekking unless if you pay extra money they prepare something to take away for the next day ( but not your payed breakfast)
I would rather stay in another hotel if possible
Sauna is not working properly
- John (8/5): I will stay there again - friendly accomodating went out of there way limited breakfast
- Jongkyung (9/5): Superb -
- Annemieke (5/5): Passable - Great location in the city center We had a cold shower most of the time, the rooms are small and very noisy. The breakfast is minimal
- Susheel (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (5/5): Passable -
- Gillian (5/5): Bring some ear plugs and you should be good to go! :) - This hotel is in a nice location in the middle of town and everything is walkable distance. It was very nice to have access to a pool. We stayed in a room on the first floor close to the restaurant. The floor is tile and the doors slam very loudly and peoples voices echo from the lobby. It was very noisy which made it hard for us to sleep. Our shower head leaked all over the bathroom floor it had to be positioned sort of to the side so it wouldn't leak, which was frustrating. The tub also didn't drain quickly enough so all the water would pool in the tub.
- Paulo (8/5): Very good -
- Irene (7/5): Good -
- Adam (7/5): Good location worth to check out - Friendly and helpful receptionist, very good location close to the Main Street and start of the hiking routes, comfortable bed, small window in the shower. The property is pretty worn down, the closet door doesn’t close properly, bathroom furnishing is pretty old. The pool area is quite good, but the sauna is using a heating system, and not real stone you would expect in an average sauna.
- Irene (7/5): Nice hotel but too expensive for real value - The swimming pool was very nice and the receptionist very helpful The room was not very clean and the furniture and utilities are pretty old, it could use some renovation. The price is too high for the real value. The breakfast was - ok -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- rebeccac332 (2/5): Don't stay here - Do not stay at this hotel. Very expensive for what you receive in return. The only good thing about this hotel was the pool. The rooms are small with very old furniture/mattresses/linen/pillows. Badly decorated. Badly designed. The hotel needs to do a serious upgrade in addition to pruning all the trees that scratch the roof all night and keep up up at night. The breakfast was average at best and if you didn't leave by 10am, you got the hard stare from some guy behind the bar. Take that as your queue it was time to leave. For USD$400 for three nights, the value was definitely not there.
- Jackie (8/5): Great for short-stay to hike Lago de Los Tres and grab a few meals - Close to all the things you need for a hike/backpacking trip. The staff were so nice and gave us the hotel rate instead of the booking rate. Breakfast could have had hot foods.
- André (4/5): Disappointing - the hotel had a run down appearance. The first room allocated was not decent. We asked to change and the hotel staff agreed.
- Audrey (9/5): We loved it so much we stayed an extra night - The pool and restaurant were amazing. Great staff and great value
- Sara (7/5): Great location, great staff, small bathroom and cold shower wasn't great - homemade bread for breakfast- packed lunch for hiking also great. Cold shower
- Sara (9/5): Superb -
- Spela77 (10/5): amazing. - The pool is big and clean, i thought it would be hotter but it was still great. It would be great if they added a jaccuzzi too but it was really nice to float around after 30km hikes.
Recepcionists are super super nice. One of the frendliest i have ever met They should update their google maps location (there are two of them and we went to the wrong one first)
- Domenico (10/5): This place is very well located, well priced and has a great breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helped us with - This place is very well located, well priced and has a great breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helped us with any questions and queries. I loved the lady in the kitchen..she was very sweet :) The only thing that wasn’t great was that the sauna took atleast 1 hour to warm up rather than the 10minutes they indicated. And also that there wasn’t a little shower next to the pool/sauna to clean yourself to keep the pool/sauna clean.
A little shower would be great for sanitary reasons :) everything else was amazing
- Filip (6/5): Pleasant - Heating was really really bad. It was really cold here
- Iina (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rutger (7/5): Friendly staff, bad breakfast - The staff is very friendly and there is a nice heated pool The breakfast was pretty bad. There was cheese and ham, bread, milk, coffee, some small croissants and sweets. There was no fruit, eggs, yoghurt or anything like that.
- Tom (8/5): Very good - box lunch for hike, early breakfast
- Skye (2/5): Moldy property, not worth the money. - The location and the price were good, but that was about it. We liked that there was a pool but it looked dirty so we didn't actually use it. The rooms were dirty, the bathroom shower curtains had pink mold all over them. We stayed in both a double room and one of their aparts (apartments), the room other than the bathroom wasn't too bad, but the apart was awful. The entire space smelled of mold, had strange colors on the walls (looked like mold had been painted over), and the bedding grossed us out. I would not stay here again.
